You have a woodshop that would make most men envious! You turned out a very professional looking and beautiful piece that is also functional, great job!
Fascinating to see how your style (not to mention shop and equipment!!!) have changed across the years. Such consistently good content over that time too.
Beautiful! I've had an Apple Press on my list of projects for a long time. I get the house restoration and the solar array and the granary and barn jacked up, I'll be building one!
Fantastic.! I was just about to research making a cider press! I love the stuff, and I get about 5% alcohol by volume in a week, using champagne/cider brewer’s yeast.
Nice one Matt, some great tips about hiding glue joints. I've seen these presses get used before, but I didn't realise it was such a simple machine to do it. And wow, a LOT of juice came out of it!
Loved this, Matt! My Dad and I built one of these a few years ago - although not as beautiful as yours - and it's still going strong! I'm sure you know, but once the apples are formed (in muslin, or cheesecloth, etc) it's called 'a cheese'... ...mmmmn, cheese... All the best, Toby.
I tried but won't stay in place anymore, need to call grizzly and see what to do. Kind of scary when running wood across with it opened up that's for sure.
Awesome video! I'd be very interested in doing a quick structural analysis of this for a video, what are your thoughts? Show what the height of that top bit that broke off should have been?
Will the epoxy finish stay waterproof? Wood changes and cracks. Many aspects of your design rely on the fact that wood stays sealed. For example I would be worried if those racks will not come apart after few seasons.
Matthew Cremona lol, I moved out west because I really don't like snow.. here there is about a couple weeks of shovelling snow per winter... oak I guess here would be close to double that...
Maybe not that crazy but I was thinking it would be helpful for simple segmented bowl blanks or veneering. Maybe if I ever need to press some bearings onto a shaft.
It saddens me that I only have one thumbs up for this video, I wish I could have given it three. I have never used a bar top finish, what was the torch used for? Thanks again for making this Matt, great build. I just put in a dozen apple trees, that gives me about 5 years to get one made for myself! LOL.
Hi Matt, in this video you mention going from jointer to planer to square off your stock. Do you have to use a planer? Or could this be done on your jointer? Thanks in advance regards Geoff ( I love your channel )
Matthew Cremona had mine for about 2yrs best miter saw i have ever used for crown molding put a 90t chopmaster on it and cuts like a hot knife through butter
+Jason _ maybe. I wanted to make sure that under pressure they didn't slide around and I wanted to know exactly where to apply glue so I didn't have to deal with cleaning up glue between the slats
I'm redoing all the oak cider press frame and juice box on family press. What would you recommend for a finish so apple juice doesn't taste funny or is bad for us. The box stores haven't been very helpful on this.
I wouldnt personally use the epoxy and paints in my tray i would do them with jointed boards maybe treated with food grade mineral oil i think it is then acces oil washed away or birch plywood maybe?
@@mcremona Thank you. But I see the one he uses is flat/flush/recessable. All the "boat drains" and "thru hulls" I find have a domed top. Love to find a flat one
Wow, what a great piece and a great video! Thank you so much. Building something like this is one of my dreams :D I guess the oak was from your own milling? And was the press for a client or for yourself? :)
Yea now i want apple juice, and apple sauce...maybe some hard apple cider....lol.....press looks great.....on to the other video.....oh yea forgot apple butter for my pancakes.......lol

Really cool build. looks really nice
So freaking cool. I want some cider now!
Thanks Johnny!
I loved your design, process, and video. Well done! Easily followed.
Such a cool project man!
Thanks Andy!
Beautiful workmanship. And yes, I have serious workshop envy!
This guy is so good. I I lived near him, I would like shadow him all day watching his work :P
Very nice!
Excellent build AND videography!
Thanks Mac!
What are your thoughts about finishes and food safety?
Finishes are inert once cured
Great video Matt!
Thanks!
Fantastic.! I was just about to research making a cider press! I love the stuff, and I get about 5% alcohol by volume in a week, using champagne/cider brewer’s yeast.
Very interesting work Matt. I enjoy all the process. Best part IMHO is the jig you made for gluing up the racks. Regards!
Nice one. Mrservecool once made a wooden press at the beginning of his cider hobby. It didn't hold up, so he had to make one out of steel.
Awesome piece Matt!

Very cool build. You make it look so easy
Great video Matt! I want some apple cider now...
Thanks Matt!
It looks incredible!
+Mark Huigen thanks Mark!
If it's clear and yella, you got juice there, fella! If it's cloudy and brown, you're in cider town!
I almost forgot you were a wood worker with all the fabrication videos lately.
+ringerson4x4 me too
This is awesome. Makes me want some cider.
Thanks Brian!
Awesome job Matt!
Thanks Fred!
Awesome. Going on the build list for sure.
Thanks!
Really great video Matt, many thanks.
Thanks!
good stuff matt! my uncle would love this thing! might have to buy him the plans
Thanks Joe!
Matthew Cremona ALWAYS!!🖒🖒
Amazing craftsmanship. Thanks!
So cool. That was a lot of work my friend!
Thanks Guy!
Well done. you are really good at this content creating.
Thanks!
Glad to see my jointer isn't the only one where the shield doesn't retract and cover the blades when it's pushed out of the way haha
haha I haven't realigned the spring still
I tried but won't stay in place anymore, need to call grizzly and see what to do. Kind of scary when running wood across with it opened up that's for sure.
That thing is massive!
that's what she said?
Been waiting for this Matt! Great timing with the season.
Thanks Frank!
Nice incorporation of Triton
imPRESSive build Matt! :P
oh boy...
That's massive!! awesome!
At 1:50 what is the name of that wood glue bottle you have there? I see it in a lot of people's vids but never knew where people get the same one.

Awesome video! I'd be very interested in doing a quick structural analysis of this for a video, what are your thoughts? Show what the height of that top bit that broke off should have been?
gorgeous build!
+Greg Baer thanks!
Thank you for this great info. One question, when you guys were pressing the apples, what kind of cloth were you using to wrap the apple pulp in?
Really nice job!!! Thanks!!!
thanks!
Very well done Matt. I don't need one, but somehow, I want to build one :)
Will the epoxy finish stay waterproof? Wood changes and cracks. Many aspects of your design rely on the fact that wood stays sealed. For example I would be worried if those racks will not come apart after few seasons.
Nice Matt i didn't know how they made apple juice, one day i may make this if i get a farm....lol.
glad to see I'm not the only one that uses a jig saw for random stuff like that lol.
lol it comes in pretty handy
Really cool build Matt. I bet that thing weighs more than you! :)
I like how you laugh when you tested it to it's limit. Haha.
Destroying my projects doesn't even phase me haha
That is a really cool project... would be really expensive to buy all the wood required though..
Depends where you live. Around here the wood for the press would be around $150. Maybe you should move ;)
Matthew Cremona lol, I moved out west because I really don't like snow.. here there is about a couple weeks of shovelling snow per winter... oak I guess here would be close to double that...
Nice build!
Thanks Leo!
Matt, what have been your impressions of the triton track saw? Have you been really pleased with the cuts?
Think you might do any yosegi type segmented lamination now that you have a press like this? Got any non-apple-pressing ideas?
Maybe not that crazy but I was thinking it would be helpful for simple segmented bowl blanks or veneering. Maybe if I ever need to press some bearings onto a shaft.
good video ... I'm doing a similar pres.
Tell me for a jack of 5 tons of oak beams in size 100x100 will be enough? and the upper beam 100x200?
It saddens me that I only have one thumbs up for this video, I wish I could have given it three.
I have never used a bar top finish, what was the torch used for?
Thanks again for making this Matt, great build. I just put in a dozen apple trees, that gives me about 5 years to get one made for myself! LOL.
I think he uses the torch to get rid of the bubbles that tend to form in epoxy.
That is really cool!
Thanks!
Good work Matt! Are you going to ferment any of that juice?
hi !!! Tell me please, what glue did you use for gluing the gratings? how long can these grids last? will the juice not corrode the glue?
I've enjoyed it, very interesting project to do it. Cheers!
Thanks!
We should make brandy with that...Or should we?
Damn Matt!! The floor is so clean!! Did you upgrade the shop or did I miss a Shop update video!!
Nice project
I don't have a need for an apple press, but I can see this being used as a medieval torture device... or a Halloween decoration... or both! lol
Thanks Dave! Pretty festive!
How many hours of labour?
lot's of good techniques...
Good thing you had that x-carve. Marking and drilling all those holes for that jig by hand would have been really annoying...
+krtwood could you even imagine? Who would be that crazy
Nice project.
What kind of glue and I couldnt understand what kind of finish you said you put on
Nice build,
I wish I had all those tools. =P
I heard a lot about your makita mitter saw. Is it good?
Hi Matt, in this video you mention going from jointer to planer to square off your stock. Do you have to use a planer? Or could this be done on your jointer? Thanks in advance regards Geoff ( I love your channel )
matt thats the first time i saw that you use a makita chop saw, have you been happy with it
It's usually hiding on the floor. I've had it for 6 years. Works great.
Matthew Cremona had mine for about 2yrs best miter saw i have ever used for crown molding put a 90t chopmaster on it and cuts like a hot knife through butter
whats the dimensions on the press cloth?
For your jig to make the lattice... couldn't you have done just the perimeter dowels?
+Jason _ maybe. I wanted to make sure that under pressure they didn't slide around and I wanted to know exactly where to apply glue so I didn't have to deal with cleaning up glue between the slats
Good point... I guess it's attention to detail lol I would've gone the easy way haha
did you get a new table saw? i see in some shots the rigid is gone and then there's what looks like a sawstop in other shots
tranceformer110 Sawstops are pretty sawsome.
I'm redoing all the oak cider press frame and juice box on family press. What would you recommend for a finish so apple juice doesn't taste funny or is bad for us. The box stores haven't been very helpful on this.
John McBride Osmo claims to have the only FDA approved food grade finish I think
Awesome project Matt. I wonder if I could use that for both pressing apples and bending steel? ;-)
Thanks Douglas! You read my mind :)
Or veneer...
Hi, Matt. How much of pressure your jack can create? I use 2,5 t pressure jack.
I wouldnt personally use the epoxy and paints in my tray i would do them with jointed boards maybe treated with food grade mineral oil i think it is then acces oil washed away or birch plywood maybe?
genial. muy claro y didactico
Hi Matt. Have you ever concidered a bigger shop. : )
+dale jones constantly :)
Hey Matt. Great Video :-) what type of glue did you use for gluing up the lattices? is it water resistant, or just normal wood glue?
Quick question. Is Epoxy food safe? If Yes, I have some use here with my old projects.
I am trying to source a plastic drain like the one used here but I am having trouble. Anyone know what they are called?
Boat drain
@@mcremona Thank you. But I see the one he uses is flat/flush/recessable. All the "boat drains" and "thru hulls" I find have a domed top. Love to find a flat one
6216W is the drain I used in this video. www.marineeast.com/a_sch/sch_det.asp?cid=02&pid=02_10
@@mcremona Thank you

Nice edit job Matt!! Ron, Littlewierdshop
Thanks Ron!
Well done.
Holy shit, I wish I could turn my hand into a mallet. 3:28
hahaha it takes some practice. you'll get there someday
awsome job, it looks beautiful but its so large that even the enthusiast wood worker is unlikely to have the required equipment
Man, this makes me really wish I had some apple trees.
I think I need some too now
I'm surprised to see you using a jig saw to cross cut your long stock instead of a "skill" saw type. Why did you choose the jig saw?
That thing is BURLY!
very cool!
Thanks Scott!
Great build. Jealous of your shop, would take me 30 years to afford all that. ;)
Hi,
What bandsaw do you have?
Thanks
+W L Rikon 10-325
isn´t epoxi toxic??
Yea now i want apple juice, and apple sauce...maybe some hard apple cider....lol.....press looks great.....on to the other video.....oh yea forgot apple butter for my pancakes.......lol
4 stars just for not adding a background annoying music, machinery sounds are more relaxing
Thanks!
The Demetri Martin of Woodworking
Cutting boards need lovin too
Awesome
Thanks!
