    Rule 7.06b (note): The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.
    So, why wasn't McCann tossed too? He clearly violated 7.06b.

    The story: Earlier in the season, Maholm hit Gomez with a pitch in a game back in May. So Gomez was amped up every time he faced Maholm since. The issue isn't so much the fact he admired anything. I watched the Braves broadcast of this, and they repeatedly showed him talking shit to Maholm from the moment he stepped out of the batter's box.

    Braves are such instigators, they're notorious for that, When you hit a fucking homerun it feels as good. If i wanna watch it land with popcorn in my hand ill watch it land!
    Why are pitchers allowed to be "pumped" when theyre on their game? I saw Randy Johnson pump his fist several times and yell "fuck yes!" after strikeouts whenever he was on fire, how is that ok, but staring down a homerun isnt ok? if it feels good (and doesnt affect anyone else) do it.

      do you understand the game? As a player are you gonna let some guy jog around the bases and taunt your team? These guys are a band of brothers and taunting one of them will sure as hell get you the reaction gomez got for being a punk. A sorry team for the 2013 season shouldn't be talking so much crap for a home run that meant nothing because if i remember correctly the brew crew lost. A catcher will never let his pitcher get talked to like that, well a good catcher at least. Grow up with the cursing too, no one can take you seriously

    • @fallen4life080
      @fallen4life080 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      wow the one comment i actually curse on is where i get called on it for by someone, i rarely ever curse cause as you said, i never take comments like those seriously. i refuse to be a "troll" on TH-cam.
      But anyway, there was disagreement over whether it was Gomez who said something to the pitcher first OR if it was McCann/pitcher for telling Gomez to run as he watched it land. I believe it was the latter as the Braves are known for hating on guys who watch their homeruns fly (like Jose Fernandez's shot, Brian told fernandez to "Run" as he was watching it)
      I agree, dont start taunting a team if you dont want to feel their full wrath, BUT in the case of the braves they need to lighten up.
      In the domincan republic (and most of the caribbean) they taunt each other all the time, and they act overly cocky, BUT its normal caribbean culture over there. They dont see it as cocky. i dont know if you read spanish but theres an article from the dominican republic after they won the WBBC titled
      "Americans will never understand our baseball"

    The catcher not only should have been tossed from the game, but should have been suspended for a month. YOU have NO right to stop a player from rounding the bases like that. The umpires are shit for allowing that. The umpires are shit for not penalizing McCann or Johnson, but for penalizing Gomez.

      Two players got ejected (Freeman and Gomez). You're right. McCann should've been ejected. He did the same thing with Jose Fernandez. However, it was really Maholm and Freeman that started it. Maholm, after Gomez hit the home run, started in on him, Freeman defended him, and THAT'S when Go-Go started chirping. As for getting suspended for a month, it WAS nearing the end of the regular season, and that would be too harsh. If anyone should get that suspension, it's Johnson.

      @codymcbride3786 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Well that's not true. It started because Gomez thought Maholm hit him on purpose in a previous AB. Then goes yard and thinks he's God's Gift to a baseball diamond. Gomez instigated that whole thing and Atlanta only backed up their pitcher like good teammates. I love that Brian McCann got in his face. People call him the unwritten rule enforcer, well that's good. Because someone needs to keep those rules; or else the MLB will turn into the NFL quickly. Baseball doesn't need players like Gomez.

Braves also lost 4-0 this game so it was pretty obvious this game just wasn’t important to them beyond Gomez jawing at Maholm. They have no problem selling out Truist these days.

      For some reason people seem to think what Gomez did is 100x worse than what McCann did. Funny how the world works, I bet if the ethnicity of the players where reversed (white guy hits hommer and watches from home plate, hispanic gets mad and blocks home plate) then everyone would still defend McCann. Thats just how it works.

    Months before this game Paul Maholm struck Gomez with a pitch in Milwaukee, it wasn't intentionally, but Gomez thought it was. Gomez held that grudge for months. In this game Gomez swings at the first pitch then stares down Maholm for some odd reason. When Gomez hits the homer he loudly grunts as if to say "that's payback for hitting me months ago" so he stands and watches the ball and slowly trot around the bases. He starts talking shit to Maholm, Freeman and Maholm some more. Then when gets to home plate Brian gets in his way and they start arguing. Gomez was the asshole in this game, he held a grudge for months against a guy that accidentally hit him. Mccann was just standing up for his teammates, that's what a catcher should do. it's not about Gomez watching the homerun, it's about how the way he acted towards the pitcher.
