Great job! Loved this comparison. I have EZ2, Mario D, ML Drums... These type of comparison videos help a lot, for people to figure out if getting other drum libraries is going to be helpful or not. Thanks for making this awesome video. My favorite here was the Toontrack Death EZX. 🙌🏻🔥🥁
I love the shells - I think they came out the best. I'm a little disappointed with the cymbals though, they always sounded thin when I have it in a mix - might be me though!
yeah I can kinda hear the lack of velocity. it's a big shame because it sounds really incredible. that sure might be the greatest sound ever. might be worth it just to get that to mix in to other libraries.@@dougb3854
This is very eye opening. I've bought a lot of EZDrummer products, and the Death Metal kit is definitely one if the best. And yet, I go back and forth between the Death Metal EZX and the Mixwave part and it's just so good. I'm still constantly looking for better drum sounds by mixing and editing EZDrummer, but now I think that maybe they just don't have the punch that these other ones have right out of the box. If it wasn't for Kontakt, I would own some GGD and this MIxwave plugin.
i usually use perfect drums or ez drummer, but ngl I really like the sound of the kick and snare in gojira, although everything else in gojira sounds alright
You totally should try Get Good Drums kits : Invasion, Brutal, Metal, Architects, and more... I'm using VST drums since years (decades ?), and those are definitely my favorites.
@@justin1603 Mixwave sounds great for the most part but couple things I absolutely do not like is the velocity and cymbals. Mixwave velocity ranges are terrible. Very robotic IMO. And thats a deal breaker for me. GGD velocities are far better. The Mixwave Gojira cymbals sound terrible. But that kick and snare sounds great.
Not my type of music but the Mario Duplantier sounds nuts. Not wild about the cymbals though. Krimh Drums is pretty great, even the free kit goes a long way.
Thank you, great comparison video, to me mixwave and krim drums by brogen digital are the ones that sound better out of the box! Clearly any of these can sound great with proper compression, eq etc…
Krimh and Death EZX were by far the most realistic!! You need an updated version with Drums Against Humanity (Inferno from Behemoth) by Ugritone :) (They have a sale right now, its only 20 bucks and amazing!!)
To be brutally honest, Modo Drum can be configured better than what this video has in order to give a hard metal feel, from what I have listened to in other demo videos.
@@justaamateur6533 Well, for the price of free they sound "okay" for some genre I suppose, but the paid version has more sets (like the Metal one), which most likely sounds a lot better/more suitable.
I have the paid version which unlocks the actual metal drumkits. I use a customized version of the Djentleman kit which sounds absolutely brutal and metal AF. The demonstrated and FREE studio kit is not all that suitable for metal at all imo, so not really a fair comparison when put against the paid metal kits from EZ Drummer etc.
Mixwave have another concept But when it comes to great and modern soundin rock & metal drums they are the best sounding vst drums so far... And i love superiir drummer... But their latest release is amazing plus the mario, jay and also mike drums are simplx great.
@flprmn9448 but...for songwriting then Toontrack is the best. The new tap 2 find and bandmate features are unparalleled. Also if you buy a few MIDI packs you are unstoppable!
I wonder if ezx death is the ez drummer version of the death and darkness library's death portion. Because it sounded amazing. The one after was horrible. And ssd 5 kinda sounded super fake
SSD basically has ZERO processing in it, which is why it sounds so bland. Wouldn't call it fake though, they aimed for a natural sounding set (like Modo). EZX etc. have a SHITTON of processing, they are basically mix ready, which is why they sound so great and punchy!
They all sound good to me, although different kits nail things better than others like ghost notes, blast, rooms, cymbals, kick...if I were doing pro or semi pro I'd be cherry picking from different vsti's.
ML Drums is the best, but of course, you did the test with the FREE version... The paid version is more powerful, that for not talking about the cheap and excellent expansions! Death EZX and Khrimh Drums also sounds good, it depends...
Clever combo of the two kits at the end! Well done!. But it's a strange comparison IMO, since EZD2 and 3 have great dedicated metal presets, yet you chose very generic presets (or left them at their default preset). For me SD3 Death and all those Mark Lewis presets are winners. That SDX is a great one!
It'd sound better if you didn't use the default settings for each plugin as plugins like ML drums dound incredible especially with the extended kit but the default settings sounds trash because its not supposed to conform to a genre but be in the middle of most genres for easy tinkering.
My thought was to show what it sounds like as soon as you open it up. Some of the plugins are ready to go, which is great for beginners, and some need more sculpting, which is great for mixers.
@SimonSkipper I still don't think that's a great metric because what sounds good when you open it up is entirely dependent on the musical context. In the context of hard rock and metal the plug-ins designed specifically for those genres will sound good out the box because that's all they were designed for. For SOME of the plug-ins, like SSD5 and ML Drums., they are designed to be used in a multitude of genres, from rock to R&B and funk, even country. The super tight and compressed sound of metal drums is NOT what it sounds like out the box and that's not because it's a bad plug-in, but because their default settings doesn't assume a genre like some of the other plug-ins do.they have presets for those genres, which take a single click in the presets drop down list, which then showcase what they sound like in the context you are presenting, which is hard rock/metal.
@@jeanpitre5789 And therefore, showing how a plugin sounds right atta the gate with no processing is the best way to go about it, cuz if a drum plugin sounds heavily edited atta the gate, then it's easy to say they aren't meant to be versatile. Chill.
