@@theperiidot I think this can work for styles of metal which have a kind of mechanical aspect to it, such as djent and metalcore. But I don't really see it sounding as good if you want to compete with more 'raw', experimental and more classic sound rock/metal.

Fear of failure is a bitch and its responsible for a lot of unhappiness or missed opportunities or probabilities for happiness in the world. It's better to fail and get hurt trying than regret not ever trying.
Maybe the most informative video I've seen, not only on programming, but drums in general! I feel like whenever I'd try to write drums over riffs, I'd just put things in and adjust based on trial and error more than anything else. Having a structured approach would've helped a lot back then. Content like this is invaluable for beginning musicians that might program in a "see what works" kind of way, but also for more experienced people who kinda got the hang of it, but still struggle to come up with a methodical step by step approach. I hope the feedback from this video helps you figure out which direction you want to steer your content towards! Sincerely, thank you!

When you explained the foundation I thought there is no way this is how people do it. But now that I’m listening for it I’m hearing it in nearly every song. Blown my mind!
Thank you! This has been the easiest video I’ve seen on how to program drums. I started with a click source and empty color coded midi lanes to the Toontrack coloring method (purple for chorus, blue for verses, orange for fills and green for bridges) so that I could arrange my song. I recorded those guitar parts and made the drum parts to my riffs and it works!!! I was so used to getting frustrated over trying to create a drum track first, but now recording guitars first and then programming to it is so much easier! Thank you a billion times over. Aside from bass and vocals I need to write and record, I’ve practically got a full song made.

Been playing guitar for 30 years, played in 3 bands, always fascinated with drums, but my legs and arms don’t communicate. For the first time ever, someone has explained drums to me in the best way possible. Thank you. Great video. So good, my comment literally sounds like an amazon review for a product with 22 letters in it with two vowels. But I’m serious.
I've been doing this ever since watching the video. It works really well. Something that made things quicker for me- 1.write the guitar part in guitar pro (I do this regardless. I usually have to practice my part a lot before recording). 2.export as midi file 3. drag the midi file onto your drum parts. 4. use the transpose feature in your midi menu 5. set your range from C0 to C0 (this is usually what your kick is on in the midi controller.) Every guitar note is now synced with the kick drum.
