    __________
    Weekly cleaning is recommended to keep your Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer running efficiently.
    Before cleaning, unplug and wait 20 to 30 minutes for the unit to cool before cleaning.
    All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a flat, water-resistant surface near a faucet.
    Remove any accessories from the device and empty any unused water from the water container.
    Then rinse the container thoroughly with water, drain and wipe with a dry, clean cloth.
    With the steam unit safely unplugged, soak steam unit in 4 inches of white vinegar for 10 minutes.
    Then, over the sink, with fingers covering the bottom hole of the steam unit, add tap water into the steam outlet.
    Cover the steam outlet with the other hand, shake the steam unit back and forth, then empty the water through steam outlet.
    Repeat several times until black particles are no longer emitted and vinegar odour is gone.
    If using Vicks VapoSteam, make sure any residue is cleaned off the steam unit using a mild detergent.
    Next, rinse the area under the steam guard to remove any dust or dirt particles.
    With a long toothpick, you can gently poke through the steam outlet and drain hole if they’ve become obstructed.
    Use gloves while performing the disinfecting process.
    To disinfect the water container, fill it with water to the fill line and add 1 teaspoon of bleach.
    Carefully swish the solution to wet all inner surfaces of the tank. Let stand for 20 minutes.
    Then empty the water container and rinse with tap water until the bleach smell is gone.
    Dry with a clean cloth.
    Your vaporizer is now clean.

    If you spend $10 - $12 on a set of Torx screwdrivers to open it, not only will you able to clean it much more throughly, but it is a lot cheaper than all the vinegar you’ll go through without ever opening it. A size 10 Torx screwdriver worked for me. The top blue piece was simple to remove. (The unit MUST be unplugged and you must not plug it back in until fully re-assembled.) Then I lifted out the heating elements. The heating elements are only 3 inches wide or so, meaning you no longer need container full of vinegar as shown here. I cut off the top off a soda can, filled it with 4 inches vinegar, and soaked the heating element for 10 minutes. After that, the mineral buildup scrapes right off with the back of a butter knife. My vaporizer is now making steam without needing any added salt.

      I tried this as I just happened to have a screwdriver set and MAN was the amount of build-up in that thing insane. Note that I tried this AFTER I had followed the video's instructions and man did that do jack. There were 2 heating element/rods that were CAKED in build-up. The method described above perhaps only got rid of 1/5 of the residue. Most satisfying maintenance I've ever done on a device. Got rid of so much gunk. So yes, invest in the screwdriver mentioned above and save yourself the trouble.

    Growing up my Mom always had the vaporizer going in our bedrooms as we slept. I do not remember the brand name but I thought it might have been Vicks. The only cleaning I remember her doing it's just washing & rinsing the reservoir fart with warm soapy water . I never saw her using vinegar or any other kind of cleaner on the motor. Also they used to produce some major steam, oh my! I used to love the smell of the Vicks salve she used in the machine! My sisters and I will go to bed with stuffy chest and/or heads, then wake up in the morning nearly cured! My mom had the same vaporizers for years. Now I know they don't make things like they used to but I was shocked and so disappointed at what little Steam and scent that come out of my brand new, fresh out of the box vaporizer. And after only a week it quits steaming all together. yeah I cleaned it and it then quit working totally. And had to buy another one, only to go through the same darn thing. I don't think I will ever buy another Vicks product!!

      Hi Barbie. We'd like to help you with this. Vaporizers rely entirely on minerals in the water in order to work properly. Vaporizers don't actually heat or boil your water using a heating element. Instead, they use two carbon electrodes that pass electricity between each other. As the minerals pass through this electricity they vaporize the surrounding water into steam. If your vaporizer is not producing enough output, we recommend mixing one or two pinches of salt (1/8 tsp) to your water. Please wait ten minutes for the salt to have an effect, and if it is still not generating steam, or is only generating a little steam, then add a pinch or two more as needed, up to 1/2 tsp. If you are in need of assistance, please contact us by emailing SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com so we can help.

      @@vickshumidifiersthermomete2655 thank you for the information but I already had it. Since my mother passed away many years ago I've come to learn to Google anything I don't understand since I no longer can call and ask her...lol... seriously I saw where several people had recommended salt and I also believe I read something you guys had written when I asked the question about no steam last year. I did the pink at a time and got little and then no results. I thought the vapor God's were against me until I saw the vinegar trick and I did that on both of my machines. No results. I even saw on TH-cam where a gentleman had taken the machine apart and had something that look like ashes all in it and he showed how to clean it but I'm not about to do something like that. I don't want to play when it comes to something I have to plug into the wall We do have a lot of lime in the water where I live and it has been known to kill an appliance or two and/or render it practically useless, but that's after a while of using. Never as quick as these two have punked out on me! And IF that IS the case and the Machine is that sensitive there needs to be warning about purchasing it on the front of the box for people as myself. instead of thinking like I did something wrong so I go and find another one only for it to happen again. That makes me lose faith in you and your product completely. I'm not being rude purposely, and I hope you're understand I'm coming from. like I said, I'm a 50 something yr young woman on disability and I do not have the cash flow to make purchase like this for them not to work or at least last a year, not just a week. I saw another video that instructed to remove the screws and then clean and when I did this, I found pieces of black residue as big a a cigar, chipped this off the surface of the two poles and will let this dry for a few days before I reassemble - hope it works but vinegar to the exterior may not work as I tried this first - was very worried about the black water as well as the chips at the bottom of the tank as this unit is a few years old

    • @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655
      @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Please do not remove the casing around the electrodes, and definitely do not chip anything off them. Doing so can damage the unit and voids your warranty. When cleaning the unit, you soak the central chamber in vinegar. This allows the vinegar to enter into the central chamber where the electrodes are. This soaking, swirling, and rinsing removed the minerals without damaging the unit. The black particles you are seeing in the water, as well as the flakes, are minerals that are left behind in the water after being vaporized. This is why we suggest cleaning the unit weekly. If you have any other questions about the care and usage of your vaporizer, please email us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

So if you’re adding salt actually, just do a weekly maintenance clean and refill again with no salt, only adding salt if it actually needs it to boil. It could also be from you having water that’s too hard, so if that’s the case then perform a cleaning and refill with half tap water half distilled water. Otherwise, the only other time it might behave like that is if that water level got too low. Hope this helps!

If the unit is still not producing much steam after cleaning, then use the instructions for adding minerals to the water from the Owners Manual. Hey Spooky Studios. Please note, these units rely entirely on minerals in the water in order to work properly. It sounds like the mineral content in the water you are using is low, which may cause this unit to not produce output. We recommend mixing one or two pinches of salt (1/8 tsp) to your water. Please wait ten minutes for the salt to have an effect, and if it is still not generating steam, or is only generating a little steam, then add a pinch or two more as needed, up to ½ tsp. The reason the minerals turn black is because they have passed through the electrodes and vaporized. Can’t dish soap like Dawn be used for the daily cleaning of the tank? Also, I bought two of these but I end up having to use salt every time and I’ve had to unplug it to add more to it. We have soft water (don’t confuse with a water softener) and is that why we don’t see any steam only for the first ten minutes? Does it mean it doesn’t work when there’s no steam?

Not sure how many years it lasted, but it’s the only one I remember as a child, and just about every time we were sick she had the steamer (old name for a humidifier) going. I have a question. What about sanitizing tablets that are meant to be a brushless cleaning? There are some meant to sanitize dishes and there are other tablets used for baby items and dentures. Wouldn't filling the basin with water then dropping in the tablet and replacing the center blue piece just to soak for awhile be a good way to clean it?

    Why does my vaporizer produce very little steam?

    • @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655
      @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Clarisee, if your vaporizer has been thoroughly cleaned and is still not producing steam, your water may require more minerals. These units rely entirely on minerals in the water in order to work properly. Vaporizers don't actually heat or boil your water using a heating element. Instead, they use two carbon electrodes that pass electricity between each other. As the minerals pass through this electricity they vaporize the surrounding water into steam.
      If there are not enough minerals in your water, we recommend mixing one or two pinches of salt (1/8 tsp) to your water. Please wait ten minutes for the salt to have an effect, and if it is still not generating steam, or is only generating a little steam, then add a pinch or two more as needed, up to ½ tsp. For assistance, please contact us by emailing SocialSupport@HelenOfTroy.com. Thank you.

    There’s really no way to get rid of that black stuff that form. You can rinse it out but eventually clogs up the electrodes and then the vapor riser will start spitting water.
    As far as sanitizing it as Vic recommends, this is steam. Steam kills just about everything. It might not kill black mold.
    It might be better filling a crockpot full of water and letting it run. One of these Vicks vaporizer only works for maybe 50 or 60 uses before it becomes unusable.

    • @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655
      @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced with this vaporizer. Please be advised that the black particles that appear in your vaporizer are leftover minerals from your water, which turn black after they have passed through the electrodes and vaporized. Additionally, the only thing that can cause this unit to oversteam is an excess of minerals/salt in the water. If there are too many minerals present in the water, you may experience a loud snapping, or crackling, noise and some spurts of hot water coming from the nozzle. This can be corrected by cleaning the unit as outlined in the owner's manual. We would also recommend emptying and rinsing this unit between uses. If you require additional assistance, please reach out to us by emailing SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

    Question about dangerousness: I think I was just partially electrocuted by this Vicks humidifier. I put a significant amount of salt in there because I wanted to see if it would make it steam a significant amount more, it did start to steam right away, I put my hand over the steam and I felt a zap. I look down at the hole where the steam comes out and I was seeing water being spit out of the hole. And I know the system is just heating up the water with an exposed double prong with electricity running through it. I also know that water carries electricity. So do you think it was just a coincidence and maybe it was static electricity, or do you think The significant amount of salt (at least five times the maximum amount I should’ve used) cause a chain reaction and the steam was carrying electricity?
