Hey Brian, I am the guy in the video doing the spray foam, sorry we got delayed and I hope the work is to your satisfaction once we're done. It was an honor to work on your building and best of luck to you.
I was once told a phrase that echoes true everytime " When you start building anything, no matter what time you set for yourself, double it" I can't tell you how many times the unexpected has happened to me. In the end you'll be fine Brian, stay positive 🙏✌️
And make sure you get IN WRITING everything that your inspector is going to want, and I mean EVERYTHING. I'm about 2 years deep in a rather large addition to my house and my inspector has changed things several times, next time I'm going to get everything in writing and do it to what he signs on to.
One of my favorite quotes says if you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. Don't know if you will like it as I do. It has helped me to push the bar so to speak with the things I do so I don't just settle for anything but giving it my all and then some. The quote was said by Bruce Lee
Brian, I wanted to say that you, Eddie Hall, Nick Best, and Robert Oberst have inspired me to work harder on my fitness goals. Getting stronger, eating better (more protein, more complex carbs/less simple carbs, healthy fat), and losing weight. My excuse was that I'm 47 years old and my body is broken down (bad knees, bad back) due to 20 years of service in the United States Navy. Then I started watching your videos and truly realized that I was making excuses, nothing more. I'm stronger and in better shape now than I was when I got out of the Navy almost 10 years ago. And that is partially because of you and your fellow strongmen.
Brian, if you read this… your level of enthusiasm and positivity comes through so much!! Have the vision, put the game plan together and execute!! Such a fantastic human being!!
Imagine being 4-time World's Strongest Man Brian Shaw, one of the most successful strength athletes of all time, building a custom-designed warehouse-sized home gym paradise, and still having to duck when walking through the new doors.
It's funny. I'm assuming it's a result of doors being framed with stock 8ft 2x4s. Probably would've cost much more than the minor inconvenience of ducking. I don't have such problems.
Hey Brian I just want to say that I’ve been working out and losing weight and even though I’ve already worked out each day, you make me want to workout more and I love your vids
Sounds like you're killing it on the workouts my friend, I'm sure you'll reach your goals in no time! Keep those motivation levels high, consistency is key!
Coming along nicely! Inspections... glad to see things were resolved before the first half of this video came out. Inspectors can be a pain if they think they are getting shade thrown at them (not that you were, but they can be touchy). Goes to show the business mind to go with the strength. Happy for your continued success! (couldn't they at least notch a space in the doorways so you didn't have to duck?)
@@Pidgeys Come here and say that! 😂I looked at your other posts. Are you drunk or missing your glasses? You even spelled timothy abbotts name incorrectly and you had his name in your post! Actually I don’t think it either alcohol or glasses that’s your problem! Can you post another dumb comment? Pretty please! 😛
Good luck big Man. Hope to see finished gym and all soon. Hope it all goes good. It looks amazing already. So,stay safe and cant wait to see the new Gym and everything else. Much respect, big fam!
Love these updates on the gym build.. I think once everything is completed and you give the final tour, you should create a consolidated edited time lapse video of just the construction front to back.. definitely will get a lot of views on the video
@SHAWSTRENGTH: Brian, your super positive attitude and energy is an uplifting inspiration to me, thank you BIG MAN...been following your journey in WSM for years. Happy gym building, it is looking awesome! 😀👌👍💪💪
Hey sir I was just wondering if you have tried working out with say 20 inch long by 24 inch around wood blocks or maybe even 36 inch around wood blocks. I'm a lumberjack and also do firewood on the side and I don't use a tractor or anything like that to load my blocks I do it all by hand and I enjoy it. I also climb trees the old fashioned way not with all the new fancy stuff. But I seem to get a pretty good workout from all of it. But I was just wondering if had tried the big blocks to see if the awkwardness of them might help with the boulder lift
Great job of controlling and managing what's "inside the circle", as a wise man once said, and not stressing about what's "outside the circle". All the best Brian.
issue you have weights and power stairs are rusted. also do not want to use at all since if get cut or blister that breaks open you get rust in your wounds.
What a bummer! I always use a mediator when dealing with inspectors. I found a guy name Ben Franklin usually gets our projects moving pretty quickly. He really knows how to maneuver through the inspection process.
When people are as busy as the world's strongest man, they should look at hiring an owners rep. I'm sure he selected a great contactor but, it's like hiring a fiduciary vs. accountant. It's always great to have an in house plan checker/ someone to review contacts, documents, manage your PMs and someone Who has your best interest, wallet and understands schedules etc. on retainer. Out of curiosity, why did you not change the height of the door openings given your height? I have to imagine that your friends and training partners are all amazing specimens of similar statute and it would have been a huge benefit with nominal cost impact. Obviously something you can't do now but what seems like contractor oversight. We've done several custom projects for NBA and other athletes and it was a "must have." There are so many other ways to save on building costs while not having to sacrifice true essential needs vs nice to haves. Hope the red tag goes away soon so you can keep on building !
Congratulations on all the progress! Can't wait to see the finished product! As disappointing as the inspection setback was, at least you aren't waiting on doors and windows due to supply chain issues experienced by some homebuilders. This will be a remarkable space!
Loving the channel and incorporating your weight lifting advice into my own routine. Would love to see you do a workout session with Mark Henry. Make it happen big man!! Keep being great!
I was hoping he’d explain exactly why it failed inspections. Being an architect in the UK it’s interesting to hear how other countries meet the regulations, or how their planning/warrant processes are. Hopefully he explains in another video.
I would like to hear that too, there's an inspector in my area who is notorious for demanding things that aren't in the official code. A number of contractors have had him in court several times (some getting him to back off for failing things that are in-spec but not to his wishes, and more than one after they punched him for the same thing.)
It depends on what they need you to correct, it can normally be fixed and solved pretty fast as long as you have all the contractors still on the job sight
he is in a left area of Colorado.. those inspectors have a god complex. If they even feel threatened Brian would be bankrupt and in prison if the cop didn't immediately shit themselves and shoot em on sight.
Hey big man do I push through a bit of shoulder soreness it's ok when it's warmed up I BN all doctors and stuff so I haven't worked out for a year what do I do big man hope u got a tip
I will also add. That, that is a massive fucking job. Huge job. Just the slopped roof alone. Sheeeeesh. Probably 5 inches in the roof maybe 4. and maybe 4 in the walls? Maybe even 3.5. You could get away with 2 in the walls though for vapor barrier. Would like to know the spray foam price, inches and sqftage either way very smart getting foam. The difference between batts is staggering. Itll take years but you'll save money. No mold issues. Rodent resistant. I could go on and on

Adding larger doors and frames would add thousands to an already expensive build. Couldn't be a worse time to have to buy lumber and supplies.
