  • Remember to not over-tighten the chain. Just tighten enough to stop it from hitting the rail.

    This was helpful. I've never messed with a garage door opener but today I adjusted my chain, thanks to this video. And replaced all the 30 year old rollers on my garage door. As my grandson would say, easy peasy. And I know for a fact I saved $300 by not having "a guy" come out and do it.

    Thank you. I actually had the opposite problem. My home is a brand new build and about 4 years of settling must’ve caused a shift and I could tell the chain was way too tight. I followed the same steps but loosened it to provide “some” sag and now the problem is fixed.

      There's a bolt hanging down from the rail near the motor to stop the door. Check to see if the metal carriage the pull string on it is wedged into it. It happened to me. I freed it from the bolt and it worked. Might help

  • @gjle
    @gjle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +93

    the door needs to be disconnected from the opener before adjusting the chain or you'll have uneven tension on each side of the chain. This will wear out the gears and sprockets. Disengage the door from the closer by pulling the red handled rope with the door closed.

    I agree with everybody else. While you seem to have tackled the easy portion of the question you didn’t really address the exact parameters the question set. When the garage door is at the bottom, I too have an excessive amount of slack on the tension side and no matter how I adjust it, it doesn’t get better. I’m going to assume it’s normal since there’s literally no answer for this anywhere.

    Ok, I watched about 3-4 tubes before your video made me realize (not the chain tension but) I have got the two engaging parts on opposite ends, leaving the opener not being able to engage them back. I was like I have seen this door latch close to the garage door side, then light bulb came up in my head! So, thank you!! Haha!

    Today evening the chain came off the spoke at the light end and the door fell. I loosened the screws on the opposite end, realigned the spoke and then tightened the screws. The Garage door now opens/close but I see a big curve of the chain meaning the tension is still way loose. I have tightened the screws as much as possible and fear that it may break. How should I go about making the chain tensioner straight/tight in between the black rod please?

    The other side is super loose on my garage door. Will tightening where you are saying tighten the other side? I tried it and now one side seems very tight and the other side is a little better. Im hoping it evens out after a few openings and closings of the door

    • @UcranianoUKR
      @UcranianoUKR 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should tighten on the other side too unless you have a weird idle pulley. It's a chain so you could move it over one tooth on the sprocket at the drive shaft (you'd need to disconnect or loosen the chain to do that). If that doesn't solve it or it's not possible it might mean that your chain is just stretched out. Usually when replacing a chain you'd want to replace the sprocket too, since it also wears out.

    My door will start closing then goes back up! I have check the wires with a voltammeter and everything seems to be okay, sensor are green and Orange not blinking at all! When I try to over write the sensors by continuing pressing the button the door doesn’t close. Rails seems to be okay with the same type of movement. I grease the rails and wheels. Nothing has improving. I am about to change the sensor, I hope that works. I will update this commend as soon as I change them if the issue gets fix.
