Fantastic line! I'm about 8 months into a weight loss journey of my own and just discovered James recently - lines like this really help to change ones mindset.
124 kg (19 stone 7 )......just recently upped my walking and introduced a couple of days at 1000 cals (short term change). Also started watching what I'm eating at weekends as it was spiralling.
Started in November of 2021 and had lost the 22kg by December 2022. Stayed the same weight for the past 5 months and back on a strict regime again , hopefully losing it by September.
I often sat in despair at my weight having got diagnosed with diabetes at a young age. I felt sorry for myself for five years with my eating getting worse, my medications getting heavier…until i hit my worst at 110 kg (180 cm), high blood pressure and fatty liver. After seeing your videos way back in 2021 i started walking, i stopped snacking (discovered i cannot stop when i open a packet of anything) and slowly drove my weight down through steady cardio and having protein in every meal. I hit 90 kg late last year when i started weight training and 6 months on i am down to a still overweight 83kg but i went from sit to stand to squatting 50 kg for 8 reps and i love it. Never thought i would love strength training but here i am 😂. Thanks for your videos, i always find them informative and entertaining and made me make my first step (literally)
What I like about that is how you’ve learned so much about yourself along the way rather than putting blind faith in someone else’s “program” or “diet”
Honestly James, it's thanks to you and your videos that I finally feel like I'm making steady, consistent progress. Simple topics explained in a no nonsense, straight forward, plainly spoken manner. No convoluted equations and theorems. I at last feel as if I understand why what I'm doing is working and, more importantly, when it doesn't. I was a lazy, overweight guy and decided it was time to invest in myself. I walk at least 10k steps a day, lift weights in the gym 4 days a week for 45-60 mins and most importantly track what I eat. I had no idea what crap I was consuming... it was the biggest eye opener for me. I now know what my maintenance calories are and understand what I am eating (and what I should not be eating). After 2 years I am basically the same weight but a completely different shape. I am 53. Never too late to start. Brilliant videos James.

I started going to the gym at 155kg, it's been 8 months and now I'm 165kg, but I have never felt stronger and more fit ever in my life, 155kg me from 8 months ago had trouble going up 2 flights of stairs and couldn't lift anything Now I'm lifting big weights and I've got decent conditioning
Please keep talking sense and telling people things they actually need to hear. The sheer volume of conflicting and, often, false information that's out there in the Internet and is baffling and causes many of us to just stand still not knowing who to believe or where to start. I can't speak for everyone out there but personally just hearing someone speak some facts and tell me exactly who is to blame (me!) is doing amazing things for my mental health and I think it's all about clarity and not being lied to for once. Thanks and I'll keep trying to improve!

I really liked this video. a few weeks ago I realized, after visiting a city I used to live in, that I had let myself go totally by the wayside. Barely any walking, eating kind of like shit. Anyway, 3 weeks deep into a minimum of 8k steps a day and honestly while I haven't lost a ton of weight or anything, i love how I feel. My dog is happy and tired most of the day. And I know i accomplished something. Structures my day. Keeps me focused. walking is such a gift.

I love your videos. I'm 5 months in on my fitness life change journey and your videos give me an injection of reality every time I need it. 5 x weights a week and keeping steps above 10,000 , calorie counting in a deficit about for 3 days a week. I have 50kg to lose. but comforting eating in times of stress is my nemesis. "Fuck it, I'm having some" is like moment of drug addictive weakness that throws me offer sometimes for days.

Calorie counting helped me the most, i've been lifting weights on and off for decades, but didnt notice any considerable gains till i started being more vigilant with what i ingest, everything gets recorded and always make sure i have a deficit of 20%, small consistent efforts DO pay off, the question is how consistent can one be, complacency certainly has got the better of me. But controlling what i eat has helped more than anything else.
Diet dictates 100% results, a lot of people say it but nobody listens and is looking for a magic training plan or supplement. Glad you found out the truth
I don’t want to offer any ideas on content for future videos, because this one has it all. Good advice, humour, motivation and a good old fashioned headbutt (no one wins with a head butt). AND it’s made me look at escalators in a new light. Seriously enjoy watching these videos 👍
So much truth in this video. But the way it is presented is spot on with the unique mix of humor, no-bullshit-talk, and not the least, knowledge based on facts. I would like to see a video on when I should expect to see results, making my way from skinny-fat, 8h a day seated, getting to little steps per day, to now skipping breakfast and lifting 4 x week

Thanks for your no bs approach and explanation, I agree with what you are saying because I have lost 3 kgs in the last month just by cutting out some of those late night snacks and keeping my dog outside a little longer while going for a walk; in turn now I feel like there is hope for me in the end therefore yesterday I have grabbed 2 resistance bands and had a really good upper body workout; now I am getting ready to take my dog out for a walk and while at it will also get a few squats in and a light jog; once again thanks for the video
Great video James. I think I'd like to see one on loneliness for men and combatting it. Maybe not in isolated sense but feeling as though you don't have anyone to share your life experiences with - even if you have lots of friends. I can think on many-a-time where I've felt like although I'm out and about with friends, I don't have that emotional connection as I would with a partner. It'd be really good to hear your thoughts on living by oneself and how you can achieve personal fulfillment without the reliance on someone else.

Would love to see a video on the ACTUAL amount of muscle you can gain after 3+ years of training. People think a couple if extra pounds on the scales each month is all muscle, and then get upset when they look in the mirror and realise they are fat. Really winds me up
54 and training 4 days a week (weights) and increasing this week to 6 (adding 2 1hr cardio). Feeling really good, just stopped smoking, sorting my finances out and making other changes. Live is supposed to be challenging and uncomfortable and I am starting to enjoy the feeling. Confidence is up and general ‘happiness’ is up (not all the time 😂). Just trying to be better than yesterday for my future self. Keep the videos coming I enjoy the no bullshit message and the delivery is so refreshing 👍👍

James can you make a video covering the bent over barbell row or pendlay row? Great for muscle building and probably done wrong by so many people. I know myself trying to hinge my lower backs sore so maybe something about correct technique and then mobility or stretches to be able to execute properly would be awesome
ideal diet plans. I know you say to eat healthier, chicken broccoli rice and all that, but for some people it is better to just straight up tell them what each meal should look like. I was like this till the past couple months. I've lost 11kg so far, your content definitely has helped me. You've changed my mindset and how I go about working out.

Great advice. I work permanent nights and I try very hard with the diet but there are those times when it gets to 3-4am and it's hard to resist no matter what I change my eating schedule too. The craving for something sh*t to eat hits you hard.
I 100% agree on this. Take apme responsibility, be honest with yourself and stop looking for excuses. Anyone can be in good shape......just eat less and move more

Unrelated, and apologies if this is unwelcome or something already on your radar, but your gait on the stair descent shows a little deficit in hip internal rotation. 6-8 weeks of some targeted effort on this could give you much more power and stability in your compound lifts. James I've been loving your videos thanks to a bit of guidance and motivation from you I've dropped 13 kegs this year, but I've hit that point where my fat loss seems to have stalled and I'm not seeing results even though i'm training harder. Alot of people are telling me to trust the process and just wait a few more weeks. I'm sure there are others that can relate, is it in my head or do I need to shake things up again?
I've been listening to your videos all day. I was thinking about trying a diet of Huel to try to help lose weight, I'm way too heavy and it's negatively effecting every aspect of my life. Now I've got something way better than some expensive garbage in a bottle, I've got a changed perspective. I want to sort my life out and become a man worth being, eat right, work right, love right, live right. I'm hoping this inspiration grows into dedication and I can determine for myself a better, more successful future, thank you, James, you've inspired me to change and I'm sure you'll continue to do so, though I still have some considering to do in regards to quitting everything and moving to Australia.

Hey James, firstly, thank you so much for your content already. I'm sure that you have in no small amount aided in my loss of 22.1kg of weightloss from 145.2kg down to 123.1kg. Your frank discussions on the subject has really helped me to shake my head up and get a little more motivated. Due to my weight and an earlier rugby injury I have quite weak knees that are prone to pain. However I would really like to learn some ways around this so that I can still exercise to the best of my ability and strengthen the muscles around them to provide more support. I know that with the more weight I lose the less pressure will be going through my knees and as such less pain but I'm unsure of where to get started with these things. I do a fair bit of walking daily (8k to 12k steps) and really enjoy it but I want to be able to do squats and lifts without damaging myself in the future. Is this something that you could perhaps talk about? Many thanks.
James, can you do a video on muscle memory? The bodies ability to recover gains lost by periods of lifting inactivity. I've got back into lifting after a long period and my muscles are going back on fast enough for friends to think I'm juicing. Obviously best not to lose gains in the first place, but an interesting subject none the less.

but remember that you shouldnt always train 6 days a week. 3 to 4 is way enough for most people and more would probably slow down your progress

James ur videos help a lot with the food intake control I dropped from 21st to 16 half last year in 4 months I’ve put back on 2 stone after some medical issues but I’d like to start doing some body weight work outs at home as my anxiety + cost of living makes a gym a hard place could u maybe do a video on “ideal home exercise to get the most out of ur body “ or something like that

Great advice. I work permanent nights and I try very hard with the diet but there are those times when it gets to 3-4am and it's hard to resist no matter what I change my eating schedule too. The craving for something sh*t to eat hits you hard.
I 100% agree on this. Take apme responsibility, be honest with yourself and stop looking for excuses. Anyone can be in good shape......just eat less and move more

Unrelated, and apologies if this is unwelcome or something already on your radar, but your gait on the stair descent shows a little deficit in hip internal rotation.
6-8 weeks of some targeted effort on this could give you much more power and stability in your compound lifts.

James I've been loving your videos thanks to a bit of guidance and motivation from you I've dropped 13 kegs this year, but I've hit that point where my fat loss seems to have stalled and I'm not seeing results even though i'm training harder.
Alot of people are telling me to trust the process and just wait a few more weeks. I'm sure there are others that can relate, is it in my head or do I need to shake things up again?
I've been listening to your videos all day. I was thinking about trying a diet of Huel to try to help lose weight, I'm way too heavy and it's negatively effecting every aspect of my life. Now I've got something way better than some expensive garbage in a bottle, I've got a changed perspective. I want to sort my life out and become a man worth being, eat right, work right, love right, live right. I'm hoping this inspiration grows into dedication and I can determine for myself a better, more successful future, thank you, James, you've inspired me to change and I'm sure you'll continue to do so, though I still have some considering to do in regards to quitting everything and moving to Australia.

Hey James, firstly, thank you so much for your content already. I'm sure that you have in no small amount aided in my loss of 22.1kg of weightloss from 145.2kg down to 123.1kg. Your frank discussions on the subject has really helped me to shake my head up and get a little more motivated.
Due to my weight and an earlier rugby injury I have quite weak knees that are prone to pain. However I would really like to learn some ways around this so that I can still exercise to the best of my ability and strengthen the muscles around them to provide more support. I know that with the more weight I lose the less pressure will be going through my knees and as such less pain but I'm unsure of where to get started with these things.
I do a fair bit of walking daily (8k to 12k steps) and really enjoy it but I want to be able to do squats and lifts without damaging myself in the future. Is this something that you could perhaps talk about? Many thanks.
James, can you do a video on muscle memory? The bodies ability to recover gains lost by periods of lifting inactivity. I've got back into lifting after a long period and my muscles are going back on fast enough for friends to think I'm juicing. Obviously best not to lose gains in the first place, but an interesting subject none the less.
