  • Is the Benchmade Fixed Adamas a good survival knife? I believe so. It's ultra lightweight and is made entirely of CPM-CRUWEAR Steel.

I own one of these and decided to do my own paracord wrap on the handle. It makes the handle way more big mitt friendly!

This blade wasn't made for survival or camping. The Benchmade Adamas series was made for army rangers hence the adamas name, and each blade model is named after one of 3 operational units of the 75th ranger regiment. 175, 275, and 375.

@@m.m.aautos6608 what he meant was that this knife is an overkill for most of us amateurs. I actually agree with that.. it’s so expensive I’d rather put it behind glass as an artifact

I was going to order the adamas-375 and the tp handle scales, but I didn't because it came out to about $350 for the knife and scales, which is absurd for a 4 inch blade. Don't get me wrong. I do like it, but there's no way it's worth $350. Not even close.

You could always take out the locking screw in the sheath. The strap is to hold the knife in if you dont have the locking screw, if you have the locking screw you dont need the strap. I use this knife for work and i cant have the strap in the way when i need to grab off my belt so i use the locking screw, ive never had an issue with it

Any way to make a wood/polymer handle fit? I see with all those holes in the handle I would think some brass or stainless screws would fit and maybe make a nice decent grip for it.

Its not that hard to get it out without force of the sheath and I`m not a big dude. Also if you want to take it out safely just break it slowly by the thumb.

The only reason, that a knife without a handle, could be called "survival" is if the user, would survive after a couple of minutes of use with it! Also, Becnhmade is a "folder" knife company, theit fixed blades aren't made with poor materials, however they are FAR way far, from being near the best fixed blade knives out there. Add on that, that Custom, handmade knives are always way better than any factory mass produced knife and you have, a really poor knife without even a handle. That Cruwear at 65hrc is not the best for "survival" you need the opposite for such a knife. something on thee soft side, easier to sharpen , tougher with better edge stability and so on.

I don't like how difficult it is to remove from the sheath. The amount of force you have to use seems dangerous and both hands are required. The torx screw does not adjust the retaining tension. You can break it out of the sheath with your thumb, but it is a bit painful to do. So, I made a leather "thumb ramp" with a 3/4" wide leather strap cut to 2" long, and two female line 24 snaps. Basically, a very short leather version of the strap that comes with the knife. Now it is much easier and more comfortable to break out of the sheath with my thumb.

Short answer. The Adamas is nowhere close to the best survival knife. It’s actually a very poor “primary” survival knife when so many other better options are available.
Longer answer: The Adamas is one of the very best fixed blades that you can throw into your backpack as simply a lightweight back-up in a survival situation. As a primary, the Adamas is decent for hiking or family camping in a state park, but there are much better options out there, for cheaper prices.
I’d argue the Lionsteel M4 and the Ka-Bar BK2 or BL7 are far superior, and for a much cheaper price. A Bark River or Fallkniven are also far better, but for premium prices.
In a “zombie apocalypse,” this is definitely NOT the fixed blade I’d carry. It’s not even in the top 20.

I think benchmade thinks their name is worth more than the knife because there's no way that knife is worth $250. I'd pay $120 max for it, and that's me being generous. It's got way more cons than pros.
    No handle scales.
    It can rust.
    It's only 4 around inches.
    Sheath sucks.
    $250 for that is a rip-off.
