I’ve never suffered a broken Omega spring and I’ve got dozens of Ganzo & Benchmade knives. I retired in 2005 and began smoking cigars. My dentist urged me to stop and I protested that I didn’t inhale. He asked why do heart patients put nitro pills under their tongues? Answer: the meds go directly into the bloodstream - as would the toxins from cigar smoke. I’ve since got cancer but think I’ve beaten it, only time will tell. I’ll always wonder if my brief years of cigar smoking contributed to my cancer. Be well MarineX, enjoyed your video..!
THANK YOU!!! I just can't wrap my head around their pricing. I just can't seem to spend $250 up to $500 for a pocket knife. USA made or not. I have a Puma SGB TAC Stonewashed knife 6650701 with seat belt cutter and window breaker that I paid around $60 for. It has quality German Steel 18/RC. It's a rock solid knife.
@@dannyfrogbro, ive had and still have really nice solid knives I've bought from gun shows for 10-20 bucks! M-Tech, Tac-Force et cetera. I have a knuckle/spring loaded trench knife that cost me 20 bucks that I've had for over 10 years, carried it for years, have it in my bag always and the black finish on the knuckles is all, rubbed off and it's still as sharp and deadly as ever and I've never sharpened it.
When it comes to knife companies Benchmade & spyderco are my go to. You really cant beat the Benchmade warranty. They replaced my griptilian blade that i snapped the tip off with no questions and i got the knife back very fast, i think in a weeks time if i remember. I currently have the aluminum bailout as my carry now that i work in an office environment. With the pomel delete the bailout is perfect for me. Its slender but full size and does not print in my pocket, especially because i wear slim jeans. My problem with Benchmade is FRN. dont get me wrong, frn is a good material but id like to see more variety than just FRN and aluminum, like maybe see benchemade use more G10 in production. I put g10 scales on my bugout and in my opinion, brought the bugout to new levels.
I have about 10 Benchmades and their warranty is top notch the only one I really want is the dlt mini Adamas looks sick. The limited edition bailout in the 3v is my road dawg . I just got that We version of the qubit titanium and 20cv 200 bucks great knife and action fuck with it.
Their pricing is absurd. S35v blade with flimsy plastic handles on a bugout going for $200 is nuts. Plus I tried getting an replacement omega spring and it took forever and cost me an additional $20.
Being a Benchmade customer for over 20 years, the next generation of owners sadly seem to have adapted the 80/20 rule. They have figured out that they can make more money with less work by focusing on the 20% willing to spend to way too much and ignoring the other 80% of would be customers.
I know some guys at this local gun shop in VA I got a full size crooked river for $235 with the back scale of wood broken I just carved and fitted my own scale and she’s been Rockin since 2020! Keep up the good work brother love the content!!
If you have the money and dont care about breaking omega springs and qc issues in general..Go for it. Are they bad knives? No. Are there better knives of higher quality that cost considerably less? Absolutely.
I just bought my first Benchmade just a few days after this video posted. Just found this video today btw. I got the mini Bugout. I think like most great companies Benchamde has a intangible quality that just makes people want them. Yes the quality and designs play a factor but there’s something else that just makes it feel more special then say a Spyderco even. Anyway I’m very happy with my purchase and I see myself carrying this knife only for a long time. You have a very cool channel sir. Thank you.
I've currently got a dozen Benchmade knives and I love them, but I also bought them all years ago, before they went all in on the big price jump at the beginning of last year, some of it due to inflation. If I was just starting out buying knives now, I would probably only get a couple of them, because their current pricing puts them too close to other luxury knives, like ones made by Hinderer, Spartan-Harsey, Zero Tolerance, Olamic Cutlery, and Chris Reeves. There are a couple I wouldn't mind buying to add to the collection, but I just can't justify the price for what they are. That means buying more fixed blades and more Spyderco knives.
Was literally about to pull the trigger on a bugout. Then remembered i have a cpm 20cv para 2 in my pocket. Wish i still had my old 154cm griptilian though. Carried that blade for the longest time.
I know it’s not American made but I have the cold steel sr1 folding in s30vn in clip point and tanto. I purchased both for the price of one bench made and they are tuff as nails
I have some Benchmades from Several years back. Would I buy one now? Probably not because their prices have gotten out of hand. Their prices are simply not justified in todays knife market.
I ended up buying a 940 Osborne with G10 scales. My reasons were: 1. It’s an American company who make their products in the USA. 2. From the research I’ve done, I think that Benchmades are quality knives, and I want a tool that will hold up over time (the knife sharpening helped in that decision) 3. It was on sale from REI. 4. The aftermarket is great for these knives (I may replace the scales with something more bright as I have a tendency to misplace things easily, though the stock scales feel great to me). Yes, I think that these knives are very expensive for what they are offering, and while I don’t think that money is always an indicator of quality, I am willing to pay the price for the knife that I bought because of the reasons listed above. It’s not perfect, but as of now, I’m satisfied with my purchase, and I believe that this will be an item that (as long as I don’t misplace it) I will have for a very long time.
Great video with some great insights. I am a Benchmade guy, it is my go to EDC knife. The price has gone up and like many others i would like to know why. But for now, i will be holding off on buying a new Benchmade unless the release something really cool...
I have a dozen bench, bad knives. And I just boughtthe new 945 - 03 with Magna cut. I love that knife. It's my favorite and I'm very glad that I bought it.
I have perhaps 45 bench made knives to include 10 for the kitchen. The meat crafter can be used in the kitchen so I count it as that. True, it aint about the money, but it's always about the money. I have been a collector user for decades (i am 70) and have had probably four collections. I am prior military and have been a gypsy in my employment so traveling with a lot of steel gets cumbersome. I carry daily a dugout made for workshop purchased at the workshop website. I no longer backpack or sleep in the snow without a tent so the knife I carry and use now does not need to be used to cut boughs or dress game. The dugout is fine. I have purchased the two new Marine folders and may start carrying (n0n work) the smaller one for daily use. If they come out with a newer model that fits my life style i will probably buy that also. As I said I am a collector.
My first foray into “premium” knives started with Benchmade, because I could walk into Bass Pro shop, see, and handle the knife I was interested in, and buy it on the spot. They sell Benchmade, so that’s what I went with. I have a Bugout that I still carry, a Griptilian, mini Griptilian, and mini Bugout. Mini Bugout is a tad too small for me, as the blade usually hits my palm when closing it (not hard enough to cut me, but it’s still a safety issue), and the regular Bugout steers towards not work friendly, due to size and blade shape.
I have at least 6 or 7 benchmades. I really like how they are always ambidextrous. Then I dought a Houge with the same lock as the axis lock, and it is a much better knive. Benchmade is also the only knife company that I have had to return a knife for repair that was a complete fail. S30V is old school, and Benchmade just wants way too for better steels compared to the competition.
I got a Benchmade Bailout a few years ago. I thought it would be the first of many but their absolutely terrible customer service turned me off. I'll never give them another dollar.
I began with your topic & tone but stayed for the well-done analysis. I bought my Benchmades in the early 2000s, partly due to 9/11. While I knew of Benchmade, I didn’t get any until I came across Doug Ritters’ work using the Griptilian as the basis. (These days, Hogue makes his knife design ideas real.) I, too, think Benchmade is now playing the capitalist 💰💰💰game, so I need to stay with the basics and learn more about knives - blade material, shape, size, scale material, shape, size, etc., which is why I liked your video introducing these things. Honestly, these days, my actual knife needs are very few. For box cutting, I got a couple of Slice ceramic box cutters. My wife adopted the largest one. While reading Doug Ritter's stuff, I also became aware of knife laws, which dampened my desire to explore non-folding knives, assisted openers, throwing knives, and different pocket clips. My hesitency was made worse when one of my son's friends was stopped by the police in a "Stop & Frisk,"and was fined because an officer saw a knife clip and found it attached to a 3+ inch assisted opener.
I've been a Benchmade customer since the early 2000s. My first knife was a mini Griptilian. Since then, I purchased many different Benchmade products. They're expensive compared to other knives, but I know most of their models are solid design and high quality.
I sold my original grivory bugout and then bought the 535BK-4 with Aluminum scales (GovX discounts made it $202). Absolutely worth the upgrade, I actually prefer the non anodized aluminum on the bugout compared to my 945. I do agree you should branch out your collection, but like you said with spyderco. Nothing is beating Benchmade's warranty. Kershaw and Buck are coming in close though.
Recently bought a new Mini Adira (water series). The retail price on it was $230.00. With my local tax rate, it would have cost $248.98. I purchased it from a local ACE Hardware for $186.94 out the door. They had it listed for just under $200.00. I used a 20% ACE coupon. There are ways to find them at a reasonable price. Sites like White Mountain Knives ship free, offer 10% discount and don't charge tax. I wouldn't pay the retail price by any means. You just have to find the right outlet...
I sent a busted up barrage type 1 with no screws anda busted up scales....the blade was old and used.\ The spring mechanizm was compleatly gone. Benchmade remade my knife with all new hardwear and scales, and they resharpened and left my original blade...:)
I don't use my knives a ton or for hard use on the regular, but I really like carrying a knife that I enjoy using, and that I can trust. Also, I've worked really hard to make decent money so that I can afford some things that I really like and you only live once.
Dont forget CRKT they make amazing blades with multiple options from steel to handle material and lock style. I’ve been a crkt life long user edc, most crkt kit carson m21s and the sf m16 big dog tanto, and a few other higher end ones with d2 like the pillar iv which is beautiful and could hang with a bugout but I recently switched to a benchmade bailout for my current edc. And you can feel the difference in quality such as the action and blade lock and steel obviously
I’ve bought Benchmades for years. But haven’t bought one for a couple of years now. I think the last one I bought is a mini Adamas. Lately their designs don’t do anything for me. And now their pricing is just over the top. It’s hard to justify spending that much when there are more interesting designs with the same or better materials at a lower cost. And in the budget territory, you can get some great folders in the $50 to $70 range. I want to support an American company. But it’s getting hard with all the great knives that are coming from overseas. That being said, I’ll be eyeing the mini Adamas auto in carbon fibre and MagnaCut coming out this year. Along with the downsized Bushcrafter fixed blade coming out also. Whether or not I spend my ducats on those two remains to be seen.
I should wait to comment. I love my Bugout, I think they are worth it. They don't have the inventory Spyderco has but Spyderco's nice stuff is expensive just like Benchmade's
I own 40+ Benchmade knives. I started collecting in the early '90s when you could get any Benchmade for under $100.00. The last one I bought was my auto Adamas. It's probably the last purchase I'll make from them. C'mon, $600.00 for a edc folder? They've lost their rabid ass minds. I don't mind paying for quality, but their prices are completely indefensible!! It's offensive and I won't be buying any more of their products any time soon until they come back to earth!!!
Intelligently presented arguments apart from the repair/sharpening warranty, but I am from Poland and recently purchased 940 Osborne is covered by the warranty of the company importing the goods. Either way, you've got my subscription added. Good luck.
Great video!! I am a diehard Benchmade fan. I've been using, carrying and collecting Benchmade for years. Yes, it is frustrating to see the price increase across the board on their knives, but, take a look around and you'll see everything has drastically gone up for no apparent reason. My personal opinion, I would rather pay a bit more for something that has a proven history and track record than waste my money trying to find something comparable. Just my 2 cents
I own a Benchmade Barrage, and EDC'd it for years as my work knife. I literally used it every single day. I cut rubber hoses, preyed out mesh screens, cut shrink wrap, scrapped paint, sludge, rust, grease, you name it, I used it daily for over 10 yrs in harsh chemical environments.... One thing people need to understand is there is nothing sacred or special, about them. It's all about branding and labor costs to make them. You can find plenty of comparable knives out there for MUCH cheaper that are made in China. Labor costs in Oregon drive up the cost of these knives, Regulatory laws, labor laws, EPA laws, all add to the cost of making these knives. Employees at Benchmade enjoy high wages and benefits that go into the cost. My benchmade is getting shipped back to oregon city for repairs because the spring is shot and the screws are stripped out from taking it apart so many times to clean the gunk out of the spring and handle, So i bought a cheap SOG, made in China. as a replacement until i get it back... The SOG is a fine knife that does everything my Benchmade did and it's a $30.00 knife.
I used to be wary of omega springs but four of my knives have them and none have broken. Benchmade has pricing problems but adams, mini adamas and fixed in magnacut or cruwear from 63-65 hrc good to go starting currently at $261 for the mini.
Just got an Osborne and a Freek a couple of weeks ago without a second thought. Ain’t got time to worry about if it was worth it or not. I like playing with them and I think they get to work just fine.
I am now awaiting my second only Benchmade, my general go to knife is Extrema Ratio, both are beautifully made quality products. Each to his own I guess, after 59 years I tend to buy products I know to be functional and well made, experience has shown be to a great stent you pay for what you get in this life. American or European manufacture also is to me a major bonus as I would prefer my grand children live in country with jobs and a stable economy, if you don’t, then keep buying imported products ?😮
I’m indifferent. Neither sheep, nor bear. I can understand why people would buy and support Benchmade. But they’re just not for me. They’re USA made and of course I love that. They have a great warranty and service, which is commendable. But they just don’t “give me the fizz”. I can’t justify the price tag. And I don’t align with their politics. Good stuff as always brother 👊🏻
P.s Not good on computers or modern tech, but I just figured out how to comment to you and follow your videos and using nine cents 1970s. It is crazy how the prices are right now. It always makes me feel good to have an American made knife in my pocket I do like some of the Chinese names , and I have a bunch, but never have the same feeling. I pull out a knife by the slip joint or hopefully soon my new bench made.
I started buying knives last year I watched youtube videos including this one and bought a zt and a Spyderco pm2. The Spyderco PM2 S45VN has had the most pocket time since. I looked at benchmade but like you pointed out I didn't understand the price point for the benchmade and I have stayed away from them. I keep looking at the benchmade but with so many americn made options with better blade material I can't justify spending the extra money for the butterfly logo
its been about a year or so for me now where I said I will no longer purchase any BM knives. specifically for me the main factor is that I have seen their prices jump way up and their quality has gone down. I have a bugout that I have been playing with today because I had to replace a spring in it and the action has been terrible since a month after I bought it (2-3 years ago). I had even put nice flytanium scales ($40) on it before it started being rough and gritty. I probably can't sell it because no one wants to pay even the base price of $180 for a knife that feels like its been left in the sand even with nice handles. My first knife of quality really ever was a mini grip and I have had 3, which have all been great and I still like it a bunch but I wouldn't get another today because a Hogue mini RSK is within $20 of difference and the new ones come in Magnacut and G-10 stock. I don't hate Benchmade I just wont buy from them again for these reasons.
I still have an issue with them and springfield's political views. I own benchmade knives and springfield firearms, however since they pulled that gun hacking stunt, i havent acquired anything new from either manufacturer. But the quality is there, cant deny that.
You have some good takes on Benchmade knives. I think what it really boils down to is being in the incrowd. Benchmade is a designer brand which is really the only justification for its high price tag. They are good knives but spending that amount of cash on a pocket knife really is mind blowing. The only good thing about Benchmade is that they have the best customer service in the industry. Similar to Glock. However, you need not to look far and wide to find quality blades that cost half as much. The real question that people should ask themselves is "What do I need a knife for?" you could answer that question with a 40-60 dollar knife you can get at your local Walmart. Just stay away from china made knives and you'll be fine.
I like my Osborne. It's a good knife. I really don't think I am going to buy another Benchmade knife soon. Not because, I have any gripes with the product, I love the knife. Its because, my personal tastes. I love traditional style knives.
I have had over 10 Benchmades during my 30-year career in the Army. Some have been abused and deployed with me. Never had an omega spring broken. I also had an issue with two knives that were sent to BM. One was to get my name engraved (a Grip), the other was issued to me, an auto that I took apart and couldnt put back together. Long story short, UPS lost my knives. They said they were delivered, which I know it was a lie since I was waiting for them at the house. After months of back-and-forth, Benchmade decided to send me two knives. The one from deployment it was discontinued so they sent me a Presidio auto. Both knives engraved. I pay PX prices, so the prices are not an issue to me. Their customer service is top notch.
I like Benchmade because it’s made in the USA and the ability to quickly open and close their folding knives one-handed and in either hand. That said, I only buy stuff when it’s on sale.
You must be doing something with a folder that you should be using a fixed blade for. I've used benchmades, especially my full sized sheep's foot griptilian for over 10 years now and never had a single spring break.
@kevinmcmahon4082 the Anthem was awesome! It's unfortunate it was discontinued, though I'm sure considering the previous price several years ago, the current price would be astronomical. I'm still surprised they never adapted that system into more of their products.
People walk into REI and get sold on benchmade, overpay, and assume they are getting what they pay for. There are so many brands both Chinese and USA that make a far better knife for the price. If you like the Bugout then look at the Kizer Drop Bear, Kizer Escort, Civivi FG, Flytaniam Arcade, and many more. Just look up best crossbar locks. You can also look at button locks.
I don’t buy benchmade for 2 reasons; over priced for what it is, spyderco is getting there too which is sad; and the second reason is that from my experience, any cross bar lock is a pain to take apart and clean and then put back together while other locks are so much easier to clean. And from my experience the QC is 50/50.
Their quality is excellent, that being said, you can get the same quality for a much lower price. I have a Vosteed Mini Nightshade with carbon fiber handles, and a S35VN blade that I got for $99. Customization is a big plus though. My guess is that S30V is a steel that they’re very familiar with, so it’s their go to steel. S30V, while an older steel, is still pretty decent, even by today’s standards.
Are you kidding me? Benchmades are some of the best made knives out there. The only one i have an issue with is the bugout because its overpriced. Its a solid knife but i feel like its $50 too much.
Man, I freaking love Benchmade. Man, Benchmade really gets on my nerves. I've owned many, many Benchmade knives, & currently own eight of them. I absolutely love the way thery make most of their knives. I'm a big titanium frame lock guy, & I STILL love Grivory. I just got the new Mini Adira & I actually love the way it feels in hand for what it is. But prices for knives like the Narrows at $522 or that Ti Bailout for $600 aside, the prices for their other standard releases have increased by quite a lot over the past few years. I remember when the Super Freek M4 was about $195, & last I checked it's at around $252. And that was in 2021, I believe. Recently I generally try to buy Benchmade knives used. The secondary market seems to acknowledge the prices most people are willing to pay. And it's s a great place to find one for a more reasonable price, even a like-new one. Overall, though, I've bought the majority of my Benchmade knives new. I do think they're relevant & necessary to the knife market. But I also think something's eventually gotta give & they'll need to upgrade their S30V knives to S45VN at the very least. At a minimum, this would at least somewhat justify price increases. Among other companies, Spyderco's prices have also increased in the past few years (also a big fan), but they've taken that step on a couple of their flagship models, & they already did that three years ago now.
Your not just buying a knife your buying there warranty a life time warranty at that. I have sent in a knife with a broke blade rusted and all I had to pay was 25 bucks and when my knife came back to me I had a brand new knife in my hand they fixed it.
Hey Marine X, Thank you for your service to the USA! I've been a Benchmade fan for many years - I especially love the entire Adamas line! I also really try to mostly buy "USA Made" blades (except for Spyderco's made in Taiwan or Japan and Lionsteel knives from Italy. I have a few CRKT's because they have a few cool blades designs I just had to have (e.g. Clever Girl, Du Hoc Karambit, etc.) - even though I don't like buying knives from China because of all the unethical things the CCP and Chinese manufactures do. In spite of loving Benchmade knives, I have to agree with you - they're going crazy with their prices lately! You're right - other knives made in America have not increased as much. Even ZT knives with full titanium handles are not as much as some of the upper-level Benchmades. Someday I'm going to save up to buy a Chris Reeve Sebenza, but, I'm not saving and paying that much for a Benchmade (e.g. The Narrows)! Benchmades are great knives, but not that great! By the way bro, we don't mind if you take a moment to take a puff of that nice looking cigar! I feel like it's burning away and you're not able to enjoy it! LOL! Thanks for the great analysis - I subscribed to your channel.
I owning many Benchmade knives, and I love Benchmade. Yes, their products are expensive, and there is many competitors now a day making good quality knives with cheaper prices. However, I still like the quality, design, and creativity of Benchmade. I will still buy them! Benchmade’s tools are reliable that I can trust! ❤
They're garbage ("creativity"??? LOL WHERE???) and you're a collector not a user. You're who Benchmade makes knives for now days, the guy who never actually uses them but like the looks" and thinks the brand name makes him cool when he posts pictures on Instagram.
I made the "mistake" 😉 of ordering a hand made biltong with a horn handle from Nepal about a yr ago or so. Its 5160 and i have a kydex sheath for it. Other than a little extra blade maintenance it is a sweet edc city blade. When i go out of the city i carry bigger of course. I cant bring myself to buy a bench made. 🤷♂️ Thanks for the video!! Cheer, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
Have been wanting a Benchmade Claymore Tanto ... love the look. Not sure if it has any advantages over a Kershaw Launch 16 Tanto other than name, and maybe warranty.
Was about to settle my mind on buying an osborne 940 as a graduation reward to myself but you helped me make my mind. Gonna settle on something cheaper and maybe buy 2 knives instead of 1 for the same amount spent.
Benchmade is like buying an expensive sports car. They keep the price high in part to make them exclusive. Same thing applies with Leatherman. You’re paying for the brand name. What else has changed is that cheaper competitors have increased their quality drastically, yes China and Taiwan have climbed up the quality curve like they said they would let alone the rest of the world.
Sent my friend Reante your channel, he’s a Buck knife guy. I share your channel with my friends and coworkers because you have great tastes and you find the sorts of items I really enjoy. Keep up your great content. Thank you 🙏
NO, they still don't ship with an angle grinder with each knife purchase, they do for the police department...Yes I am still salty at their anti 2A history. Sold all that I had and purchase so many other great brands, Spyderco, SOG, Cold Steel, Ontario, Zero Tolerance/Kershaw, and so on.,
Difference between Benchmade and say Buck is that to this day a Buck 110, 112, 119, 120 ALL are classic staples in the knife world and American culture. NONE OF THEM are even 100 bucks. Yes they make special editions and so forth and custom ones that are more but their standard versions which ARE the vlassics under 100. I'd say 50 - 75 bucks and they are solid as fuck. They don't feel the need to rob working class folk for plastic folding pocket knives. Meanwhile Benchmade will sell you a PRACTICE butterfly knife that can't ever even be sharpened into a usable knife and is way lighter than the real thing for 350 to 500 FUCKING DOLLARS! THAT is the difference.
don't own a benchmade,,,,,but looking,,,,think i'll get one, have seen them and they have good actions,,,,,,,thanks again and i subscribed,,,,be seeing you
Benchmade is good, not the best, definitely far from the worst, I think the warranty is great and probably a part of the cost, some of the knives are definitely worth what they are priced steel, tempering, design, some not so much. An example of a good price would be the bug out (no way) but its made for edc, slim, light, s30v. Not so great price IMO the adams its slightly bigger, auto in D2 (not hating on d2) but definitely overpriced. Lastly is aftermarket support, the bug outs main flaw is the rigidity and that can be fixed with aftermarket scales plus some other add ons to make it more personalized but even at that benchmade has good quality, just need to fix the price.
Love Benchmade but their prices are stupid. As a former soldier in the Army, I had issed Benchmades which I still have and use. That said, over half of my current collection came from pawn shops.
Why sharpen them? Send them all in and enjoy something else for a while. Utalize that Free sharpen service and you’ll feel a bit better about giving them your money. Thanks for the video 🫡 Love my benchmades but I’m done for a while as well.
@@MarineX I get that! Living in Canada I can’t send it across the boarder. There’s a really good chance they’ll get confiscated so I either have to sharpen them myself or get someone better than me to do it. I figured being in the states you would have no problem sending it back and forth.
The Glock of the knife world... Even when you hit a rare 30% off sale, theyre not competitive with the market. Once they lost their axis lock patent, and they failed to innovate and improve for 20yrs, theyre left with only the die-hard Fanboys. And even those are getting sour and alienated.
I carried a Benchmade CQC7 for over 20 years. It was in my pocket the first time I held my daughter. It was in my pocket the day she got married. I gifted it to my new son in law that same day. It served me well and continues to serve him well. I replaced it with the Kershaw version of the same Emerson CQC7 design. For my EDC use, the only difference I notice is a little more frequent need to strop it. I still only need to get the stones out once a year or so.
I’ve never suffered a broken Omega spring and I’ve got dozens of Ganzo & Benchmade knives. I retired in 2005 and began smoking cigars. Neither have I, though I don't have any Ganzos, I have lots of Benchmade as well as other axis lock folders,
Same, brother. I’m not buying a new model until they re-align their pricing with reality.
I concur
THANK YOU!!! I just can't wrap my head around their pricing. I just can't seem to spend $250 up to $500 for a pocket knife. USA made or not. I have a Puma SGB TAC Stonewashed knife 6650701 with seat belt cutter and window breaker that I paid around $60 for. It has quality German Steel 18/RC. It's a rock solid knife.
@@dannyfrogbro, ive had and still have really nice solid knives I've bought from gun shows for 10-20 bucks! M-Tech, Tac-Force et cetera. The Axis lock is what originally made me reach for a benchmade. But there are companies like Ganzo that make them and they do it well for the price.
well yea for a time they were at the top of their game! nowadays however they are trying to make money off their name alone without innovating…
Actualy the best cross bar lock system and by far is made by Kizer and it's named clutch luck
Obviously you don't own a bugout as you don't even know what steel the blade is made out of? 🤣 It's not $200 neither! Please stop! 🤦🏻
You’re right, i was wrong. It was s90v with carbon fiber. Still overpriced for what it was. Got rid of that crap.
Being a Benchmade customer for over 20 years, the next generation of owners sadly seem to have adapted the 80/20 rule. They have figured out that they can make more money with less work by focusing on the 20% willing to spend to way too much and ignoring the other 80% of would be customers.
I really hate these new terrible business practices
I wonder if it has to do with the son taking over.
The company took a sizeable shift in business practices and attitude shortly after the son took over.
Yea and thier heat treat is shit now if it wasn't I would still buy them
I know some guys at this local gun shop in VA I got a full size crooked river for $235 with the back scale of wood broken I just carved and fitted my own scale and she’s been Rockin since 2020!
Thank you.
Get the full size bugout if and when you can.. you’ll love it
I have a mini-bugout and love it! 🤣
940 ftw
I know it’s not American made but I have the cold steel sr1 folding in s30vn in clip point and tanto. I purchased both for the price of one bench made and they are tuff as nails
I have some Benchmades from
Several years back. Would I buy one now? Probably not because their prices have gotten out of hand. Their prices are simply not justified in todays knife market.
I ended up buying a 940 Osborne with G10 scales. My reasons were:
1. It’s an American company who make their products in the USA.
2. From the research I’ve done, I think that Benchmades are quality knives, and I want a tool that will hold up over time (the knife sharpening helped in that decision)
Hmm auto spell, read bug out not dugout
Same here marine x . I have about a dozen benchmades and like all of them .
I got a Benchmade Bailout a few years ago. I thought it would be the first of many but their absolutely terrible customer service turned me off. I'll never give them another dollar.
I have several. Mini bugout the otf shootout and several others. Ive paid more for ZTs so its not the money.
I began with your topic & tone but stayed for the well-done analysis.
I bought my Benchmades in the early 2000s, partly due to 9/11. While I knew of Benchmade, I didn’t get any until I came across Doug Ritters’ work using the Griptilian as the basis. (These days, Hogue makes his knife design ideas real.)
I, too, think Benchmade is now playing the capitalist 💰💰💰game, so I need to stay with the basics and learn more about knives - blade material, shape, size, scale material, shape, size, etc., which is why I liked your video introducing these things.
Honestly, these days, my actual knife needs are very
few.
I have the claymore & turret love both, really like Spyderco I have PM2 several of them. My EDC is the Spyderco Canis
Nice. I'm LITERALLY putting on shoes to go to Ace
@@MarineX Hopefully your ACE has them marked lower...
@@TRCody-yw4sz just got back. They didn't have any. So I grabbed super glue and headed out
im on my 4th 940....i cant stop losing them! which in turn is a testament... Plus they have a kick ass life sharp warrenty!
I have 4 Benchmades. All bought between 2015-17. But now? No way. They’re pricing is insane.
I use my Crooked River almost every day. I also still have the Buck 110 that I bought as a private in the Army some decades ago (it’s mostly retired).
Like the knives, but dollar for dollar I’ll take Spyderco every day. So no buying here. My Benchmade buys have mostly been aftermarket.
I should wait to comment. I love my Bugout, I think they are worth it. They don't have the inventory Spyderco has but Spyderco's nice stuff is expensive just like Benchmade's
ALL of Benchmade's stuff is expensive. Spyderco has inexpensive, but still great quality, products; Benchmade doesn't.
Spydercos inexpensive stuff doesn't have the highest quality materials.the build quality maybe be super.
@@D00Mcandy Because Spyderco budget line is made in overseas factories.
I also got a base bailout and am just adding the features I want. That way I didn’t get over charged unneccesarily
Benchmades prices are absurd, I don’t think I’ll be getting one anytime soon
P.s
Not good on computers or modern tech, but I just figured out how to comment to you and follow your videos and using nine cents 1970s. It is crazy how the prices are right now. It always makes me feel good to have an American made knife in my pocket I do like some of the Chinese names , and I have a bunch, but never have the same feeling. I pull out a knife by the slip joint or hopefully soon my new bench made.
Knives
There are tons of excellent Chinese knives.
My wife got me the socp folder in April 2022 for 180 now it's 225 that much markup isn't just inflation.
Love my Benchmade Vector 495 Axis. It is pretty well built, looks awesome and cuts like a chainsaw as far as I can say.
I like Benchmade because it’s made in the USA and the ability to quickly open and close their folding knives one-handed and in either hand. That said, I only buy stuff when it’s on sale.
You have to mention the omega springs for why people don't like them. I've broken five or six of them. I can't rely on them.
They must be really weak. I heard they are upgrading to a flat rolled spring that is stronger
@@coyote4936 I hope they are better. I don't understand why they don't figure out a coil spring system. Wasn't the Anthem like that?
You must be doing something with a folder that you should be using a fixed blade for. I've used benchmades, especially my full sized sheep's foot griptilian for over 10 years now and never had a single spring break.
@johnwallace6763 no, they usually break when I'm fidgeting with them. Just opening and closing.
When it comes to cost of tooling it's mostly the cost of paying for the people to do it and then the actual end mills used in the big mills.
Their prices don’t match quality. Period.
And they break for something that you’re life should depend on
Their quality is excellent, that being said, you can get the same quality for a much lower price.
@@echosierra9990 I’m just putting this out there. I still want their water line fixed😂😂
Are you kidding me? Benchmades are some of the best made knives out there. The only one i have an issue with is the bugout because its overpriced. Its a solid knife but i feel like its $50 too much.
@@navyvet05 yeah, said no one ever.
Thanks for the video!!
Cheer, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
Have been wanting a Benchmade Claymore Tanto ... love the look. Not sure if it has any advantages over a Kershaw Launch 16 Tanto other than name, and maybe warranty.
I’ve wanted a benchmade bali for a while but the one I want doesn’t stay in stock. I’m picking up a 940-2 because I would like to have a benchmade
Was about to settle my mind on buying an osborne 940 as a graduation reward to myself but you helped me make my mind. Gonna settle on something cheaper and maybe buy 2 knives instead of 1 for the same amount spent.
Buy used.
Thank you 🙏
I broke two omega springs in two weeks of owning the knife lol. They took it back and now I’m hunting for a new knife.
Toor knives zero tolerance are the best I’ve owned about everything just my opinion
The few Benchmade knives I have give me no reason to buy any knife in 2024. My s30v mini grip is in my pocket everyday without fail 🤷🏻♂️
Instead of Benchmade look at Kunwu or Hogue...i had 5 Benchmades sold 3 of them recently, holding onto a 940 and a Bugout just for nostalgia sake.
Just bought a 940 . Will do it again if lost. Lol love it!
If you can only buy one, buy the 940 Osbourne. I own 6 Benchmade knives, If I could only keep one, it would be my 940.
I think everyone should at least try a 940 or bugout
Nope, not unless you can get a solid deal from a local dealer. I'm about about taking $100 + off the MSRP.
Have you ever tryed a SpyderCO manix 2 or paramilitary 2 I find them vastly superior.
I love my para 2 and I really want a manix 2
don't own a benchmade,,,,,but looking,,,,think i'll get one, have seen them and they have good actions,,,,,,,thanks again and i subscribed,,,,be seeing you
Should’ve had the 940 up there. It’s considered to be the best edc ever made
Telling it like it is. I’m just fickle and I’ll prolly buy one more too! Baaa! Baaa!
I picked up a SOCP folder and I love it but ngl for $250 I think it’s a bit overpriced.
I find all my money in the interior of bank vaults at 3am for some reason.
Shoutout to all my weekend warriors out there.

I look forward to buying discontinued models at deep discounts. The prices are usually more realistic and present a great value.
The best option.
I picked up the original Freek for $105 and a Boost for $130.
I think the Mini Adira is their latest "worth it" knife they released in many years
Spyderco bro..I wasn’t impressed with the mini Bugout
Spyderco keeps jacking up their prices year after year
Why sharpen them? Send them all in and enjoy something else for a while. Utalize that Free sharpen service and you’ll feel a bit better about giving them your money. Thanks for the video 🫡 Love my benchmades but I’m done for a while as well.
I get anxiety with them getting loss
@@MarineX I get that! Living in Canada I can’t send it across the boarder. There’s a really good chance they’ll get confiscated so I either have to sharpen them myself or get someone better than me to do it. I figured being in the states you would have no problem sending it back and forth.
The Glock of the knife world... Even when you hit a rare 30% off sale, theyre not competitive with the market. Once they lost their axis lock patent, and they failed to innovate and improve for 20yrs, theyre left with only the die-hard Fanboys. And even those are getting sour and alienated.
The knives I buy don't have butterflies on em
I love and want benchmades but I can’t afford them.
I really don’t think they’re that expensive for what you get tbh
I carried a Benchmade CQC7 for over 20 years. It was in my pocket the first time I held my daughter. It was in my pocket the day she got married. I gifted it to my new son in law that same day. It served me well and continues to serve him well. I replaced it with the Kershaw version of the same Emerson CQC7 design. For my EDC use, the only difference I notice is a little more frequent need to strop it. I still only need to get the stones out once a year or so.
I love my 3 benchmade knives but each to their own.
I totally understand that
