Damn Gary you were lucky as hell getting that stupid snap ring out! I always thought they should come out like that with $70 super-long snap ring pliers! They never did for me, EVER!!!!
On a 2000 Grand Caravan 3.8 with 41TE I got a P0740 in 2014. I changed the solenoid pack but the code kept coming back. So for the next 5 years I was able to pass the annual inspection by clearing all DTCs then spending a few hours doing varying drive cycles while staying below 50 mph (which was the speed at which the DTC would set). Five years later, after completing a 300+ mile highway trip, the DTC cleared on it's own and hasn't come back in 5+ years. Kinda bizarre.
@@GaryFerraro I was using an old Snap-on MT2500 until I got a mid tier TopDon a couple of years ago. The P0740 never showed up again after it cleared on that trip in 2019. A P1776 in 2021 was fixed with another solenoid pack. And a P1792 (battery disconnected) shows up occasionally. The only data that ever seemed out of spec is the UD CVI was 115 in 2021 and is 122 today. I will also find a small drip of ATF showing up in the location of the torque converter. But the fluid level barely drops over time and it's clean. There has never really been any driveability issues that I've noticed.
@@GaryFerraro Yeah OD has been between 111 and 131 which is within the spec of 48 - 150. But the UD readings are definitely 115 - 122 (outside the 24 - 70 spec) because both the TopDon and Snap-On have always shown the same readings. But without knowing these numbers I don't think a driver would suspect any transmission issue.
@@jeremiahstone5285 I think they get glaze on them and i get a chatter on the shift, so i either use new steels or have my friend sand blast original ones
@@GaryFerraro what do you think about the trans go kit self expanding seal vs a stock underdrive seal with a new piston, I'm working on one that may have had an underdrive seal issue had the self expanding installed. Issue that looks like underdrive seal but couldn't scan before opening, older car, drb, don't have..
Bat wings keeps the cross pin in place, the roll pin would break and the cross pin would come out and break the case. Could cause no reverse, look at a scan tool see if it reading correctly
@@GaryFerraro checked it out yesterday I did a clutch test all my forward gears pass the test but reverse doesn’t seem to register when it tells me to throw it into gear so I’m thinking it might be it funny part is that when I check live data is that I dose should it being in reverse
Use to build these at the factory.. another one of my favorites besides the 62te.
Thanks, Gary. Hey, if you get a 948TE or the ZF equivalent in there, please film the teardown.
All the 948TE that i have gotten in, software update fixed them all. never took one apart yet

Yes, Sometimes it takes a while to get it out, sometimes comes right out
Thank you Gary.
They just finally ripped out this assembly line in September of 2020.. the total built on the line was 17,395,769 4 speeds!
wow, did plenty of those back in the day
Another awesome video thank you
Thanks, always like to see and learn 👍🏻
Got a few of them arround....unopened 89' ones, imagine those time bombs😅
First year of that trans
Another great video sir, thanks!! Do you have any videos where you show the replacement of the bushings?
Hi u are so professional i wish if u teach me transmission Rebuilt

that is, have you scanned the car to confirm that?

@@dricklorenz9340 Thats high CVI Value, That should be around 40 or 50. The O/D clutch is usually that high

Great video as always Gary!!! Interesting that the 2/4 steels are funky for shift feel in these. Great tech tip.
had a few issues in the past on the 1-2 shift, since i been installing new steals shifts nice now
@@GaryFerraro weird, they never look worn at all, but sometimes I see a faint etched imprint from where the 2-4 piston hits, is that why maybe?

Me puede informar. Si hay un sello entre el piñón q conecta la corona de la transmisión y la caja automatica de la 41TE?

THAT PULLER YOU USE ON THE PUMP IS IT THE SAME AS THE SMALL DENT PULLERS YOU GET AT THE PARTS STORE
Gary who makes the yellow handled long snap ring pliers?
Adapt-A-Case
What do you do if the transmission is stuck in park and won't shift into any other gear? How do you remove the valve body?
Oi bom dia gostei muito do vídeo meus parabéns vou procurar o manual desse câmbio
I was a Dodge dealer trans tech in the late 90's. What an absolute piece of garbage they were back then
you got that right lol I was told by my parts supplier that this was the number 1 selling overhaul kit.
We had a brand new voyager that wouldn't back off the transporter.
does anyone know if you can remove the valve body with the transmission still in the vehicle to replace the transducer
yes you can, make sure your linkage is in low or valvebody will not come out
What do the bat wings do ? Also would a bad range sensor cause no reverse ?
