Yeah, when he moved, I thought it was a blessing in disguise. I'm sure while building the first cabin, he thought of things he "would have done differently" after getting that experience and I thought this was his chance.
Shawn, this is no longer a cabin in the woods, this is turning into a self sufficient structure, it`s gonna be massive with the addition of a bedroom, looking so cozy and homey. What you have pulled off here alone, with only hand tools, is absolutely incredible, the build is just stunning, I can`t even imagine how many linear feet of boards and lumber you cut by hand, I can remember in the winter when you had the last top wall log installed, and then said nope, I need to go one more for the upper loft, it is an absolute pleasure to follow you on this journey, the outdoor kitchen, is just through the roof, and now you have covered storage to keep the canoe out of the elements. This is going to be a big carbon free footprint, that will last for generations for you and your family, what an achievement, and a lasting rememberance of what you built and left as your legacy, it`s just astounding, well done sir.
I think the necessity of having a good home for his whole family that's safe & self sustaining when all this covid & political upheaval hit probably changed a lot of his plans the past few years. He's made a wonderful place for them all if they need it permanently. So wise.
I think this is what the government is afraid of people like him who aren’t afraid of getting their hands dirty and rough, having the skill, determination, and strength to build a house from scratch and then living off the land either having a garden hunting your own food hell having some chickens some pigs and some cows and butchering them for your own sustainability people like me don’t know how to do that or dont have a lot of money and needs to depend on the government and the economy to survive when 150 years back everyone knew how to do everything this man did and survived off themselves not the government

Shawn, I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning and I can honestly say that you are one of my heroes. I find myself thinking about moving out to the forest and building my own cabin. I’ve begun my 5 year plan to learn the skills I need to do this as well as purchasing land in an area suitable for this. I have a lot to do in the next 5 years! On another note, it looks like Cali is living her best life! She hit the jackpot having you as her caretaker. I worked in emergency veterinary medicine for 12 years. The dogs and cats that had lots of open space to be themselves were always the happiest animals. Keep it up, I’ll continue to watch.

I just wanted to let you know. I've been watching your channel since I was 15. Basically since the very beginning. And I am now 21. Will continue to watch your channel and other channel for years to come.
After watching your channel for the past two or so years, I got inspired to remodel my bathroom, top to bottom. Thank god for you and TH-cam University for teaching me all the skills and tools I needed! I also installed a clawfoot tub, surrounded on three sides by wood-looking tile, so that if I get too old to get into that tub, I can build a shower stall. I put wood up on the walls, laid a wood-looking resin on the floor, built my own vanity with a live edge cypress countertop and copper bowl sink. I love my bathroom, and my hands will never be the same with the arthritis that developed after all that hard work! Some scheduled surgery this fall might help. It was worth it. Thank you for the inspiration and teaching me a whole new set of skills! Your daughters are lucky to have you to learn from! My grandpa taught me a little, but not anything like this! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, and now I have my own tools to do just about anything! (I cheat with battery powered tools).

The cabin gets better all the time. Love the claw foot tub! I had one when I was first married. 1957. Used to fill it with hot water and sit and read. My parakeet used to sit on my shoulder and whistle at me.

I haven’t been on TH-cam for ages. The creature comforts of the new cottage sure look more appealing for The wife & visiting daughters etc. and easily a “Forever” home. The cabin in the beginning of this channel was great practice. I forgot how inspired I feel after watching any episode where I’ve decided to tackle some repairs on our deck today that I’ve procrastinated for too long.

Hey Shawn this is just my two cents storing the canoe above the outdoor kitchen might be problematic first the cooking grease permeating on the canoe, high heat could warp and effect the outer layer of canoe. The other thing is age you might not be as capable as today. But hey it’s your canoe Enjoy every moment of your Self Reliance Life ❤

What an amazing cabin with all your special designs and art. If you didn't film this whole build - how could anyone believe you did this alone (and with Cali)! It's just wonderful. All the woods, pines etc. must smell wonderful in your cabin. I feel like you are trying to finish up before the holidays.
He did a magnificent job on the bathroom/clawfoot tub/red pine floors. He is the most competent/confident hard working, self-reliant man, I've ever seen. It's nice to see he is able to take a break and go hunting/bow/arrow shooting etc. along with his dog Calie. This is his best cabin yet!

I really admire the way your tools are always so sharp. Also, glad to see you using some Japanese tools. They do make great carpentry tools, and their kitchen knives are what I choose. I restore and sharpen knives and other tools, as this is where my interest currently lies.

What an amazing cabin with all your special designs and art. If you didn't film this whole build - how could anyone believe you did this alone (and with Cali)! It's just wonderful. All the woods, pines etc. must smell wonderful in your cabin. I feel like you are trying to finish up before the holidays.
He did a magnificent job on the bathroom/clawfoot tub/red pine floors. He is the most competent/confident hard working, self-reliant man, I've ever seen. It's nice to see he is able to take a break and go hunting/bow/arrow shooting etc. along with his dog Calie. This is his best cabin yet!

Oh it's good to see that lovely window back again. I knew you were going to reuse it but couldn't remember where. Of course that keeps me watching - to see what's next and how it will look. The bathroom is just the right size - now I'll watch to see how the tub gets finished, the way you connect things up and the sink situation/location. Always worth waiting for.

I really admire the way your tools are always so sharp. Also, glad to see you using some Japanese tools. They do make great carpentry tools, and their kitchen knives are what I choose. I restore and sharpen knives and other tools, as this is where my interest currently lies.
