The first bike that I ever purchased brand new was a 98 XR400, I loved that bike. I ended up getting an awesome deal on a 94 XR600 and preferred riding that to the XR400. A few years later I got the XR650R and while it had insane power, I still think my favorite bike of all time was the 600. The 650 gave me a bunch of wheel spin while the 600 just griped like velcro.
Hi thanks for watching, in 94 i was dreaming of owning a xr 400 countless trips to the dealer and just looking as i was only 15 then 😂. Finally got my first xr in 1999 xr400. I agree with you my xr600 is my favourite 👍👍.have you still got your xrs ?
Spent a year chasing cattle around the Australian outback on one of these 10 years ago, will forever love that bike! You made a lovely job of it mate! 👍
Thanks 😀. Super nice to ride not crazy power its just right for fun. Saying that i rode with a punch of new ktm’s on the trail and they could not shake me all day .
Had a 350 years ago, wish I’d never let it go! Fast forward, I’ve got a really mint 650r that I love but I’m in Appalachia and she’s a big girl for most of the trails around here. Just finishing up a frame off on a last gen 250 r and I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be my all time favorite. I’m 52, in good shape but been beat up a bit so the weight is a huge thing for me. This video was great, I’m going all white with a few black pieces myself, but I’ll skip the graphics. Just me, but now I know I’ve made the right choice, looks stunning!!!
Hi thanks for watching,my 400 i use the most for the same reasons back and hip beaten up 🙁 . 250 r is a sweet bike and last gen 👍. Trail here tight to. Im trying to relive my youth got the bikes but body letting me down.👍👍
Use a heat gun on the vynil and stretch it and staple it as it will shrink when it cools down and it will stay tight on the foam. As for the seat gap you can use the heat gun on the plastic base and pull it forward or heat it up and turn it up side down and add weight to it and when it cools down it will stay in shape and stay tight to tank when fitted . The speedodrive are the same on the xr600r as the xr400r ones aswel 👍👍 good work 👍👍 the clocks pop up on ebay and the xr400r pages on Facebook aswel 👍
Hi thanks for the info . Did have the cover in the sun for a few hours but next time will use the heat gun also 👍. I have clocks just the aftermarket drive gear not reaching the worm gear . 😀
Thanks for watching, it motivates me to do a better job knowing people are watching 😀. Been watching your vids and if I remember right you had one new when you were 18 and still have it ? Love your vids and i think your vids better than mine 👍👍👍
@@OldDirtBikes thanks man that’s much appreciated! Your vids aren’t bad at all, so keep up the good work too! And yup that was me. I’ve had my 400 all those years!

Its probably too late now but for cleaning white plastic, I have seen peroxide and a uv light work amazing, on a random video of some bloke restoring a plastic millennium falcon toy.
Really love your attention to detail and quality rebuilds on these awesome bikes! and you live in such a beautiful place too. Looking for an XR 250 at the moment with a bit, but not too much work needed. regards mate, best wishes!
Thanks for the comment 👍really been enjoying the builds i been doing so much it didn’t feel like work. Xr 250 great bike . Been taking a break from my bikes recently as my truck needed attention badly.maybe next year I’ll make a few more vids .
It looks great. Well done. I have a factory trip meter drive gear from my XR400. I removed it and installed an aftermarket spacer in its place as I run a Trail Tech speedo unit now. You can have my drive gear for free. Just pay for shipping. Remember, my bike was sold in the US market though. On mine it only drives a trip meter so I suppose it might not work for you. Let me know.
Hi thanks so much very thoughtful, but I’ve just had one this week 😀. Also using a meter app on cell phone at the mo but i do like using stock clocks as i was born in the seventy’s im very much an analog 😂. Thanks for watching
Hi 😀thanks this one turned out better than i thought it would . Yes when i was looking they were in a bad shape . When I stopped looking this one found me and was close to home just 20min away . Hope you find one 👍👍👍

Looking good! I found the stock XR400R suspension to be too soft compared the the XR600R for my 200 pounds. Just now redoing the suspension, steering head and front wheel bearings. I removed the speedo drive and installed the “XR’s Only” drive spacer and installed a Trail Tech Vapor I believe it’s called...
