Quick Riffs No. 51 | 8 String Drop D Heavy Vibes

Here's Quick Riffs No. 51, I was playing with drop D tuning the 8 string again yesterday and this is what I wrote. It's a real easy one technique-wise, although it does have some interesting rhythmic ideas here and there and at the end of the day, if you're tuning this low, it just needs to be heavy haha. Overall I really like the groove in this one and I hope you do too and as usual, thank you for watching.

Thanks very much. I heard one song by Black Tongue after somebody else recommended them and thought it was pretty good, I haven't had a chance to delve into their catalogue as yet but I plan to at some point

Thanks very much, this was Archetype Nolly, a lot of the low end is coming from the bass tone though. I really like a lot of the Neural stuff, Nolly and Gojira being my favourites so far, I'd recommend them both, especially as they give a 2 week free trial \m/

This sounds really good! I have an 8-string that I've tried to come up with stuff on drop D but I can't seem to make a tone that has as much bite as this, like it sounds too round if that makes sense. Would you have any advice on that?

Thank you very much. I've struggled with getting a good tone tuning this low too since I don't really know what I'm doing haha.
tl;dr Try removing a good amount of low end and go for a mid level of gain as too much of either will make your tone muddy tuned this low.
I've found that if you remove a fair bit of low end that helps, on this tone(Archetype Nolly) I've got the multi band eq removing most of the 65hz band 4-5db from the 125hz band and 6-7db from the 250hz band, then a 1-2db boost in the 4k band and a couple of db off the 8k and 16k bands. The amp tone dials are close to 12 o'clock with the gain about 1 o'clock but the boost pedal I have the tone all the way up, gain all the way down, volume full. On it's own it sounds really quite thin but in the mix you really want all the low end to come from the bass anyway so they blend really well this way. There's also some high-mid and high boosting in the mix bus which helps too. I hope that helps anyway, I certainly haven't found it easy yet but it does get easier with practise haha

​Wow, thank you so much for going so in depth! I'm relatively new to low tunings as well so I appreciate any advice I can get. My 7 string just has so much force behind it that my 8-string doesn't right now so I think removing more low and focusing on mid would definitely help. I also just got a bass so that will be nice to track behind it as well.
