Hi faith, can you recommend a good interleaved KJV Bible? Not NKJV, the original KJV, seems to be by far the hardest translation to find in interleaved. I found one online, but it looks like the pages are regular Bible levels of thin. Thank you.
I’m only a minute in but I see it as a blessing those books sections are next to each other. As an ex newager, you never know if someone who went into the book store looking at the secular “witchcraft” books might be intrigued to buy a bible journal.
My old Pastor always said "Don't take my word for it, study it for yourself, make sure I'm correct". And your right it can be paralyzing trying to pick out a book by someone you don't recognize and worry that their theology will lead you the wrong way. Thank-you for your tips on choosing a good book/author. Now I want to go to half price books this weekend and see what gems I can find.
"I'd like to read you up and down" 😂😂😂 as a massive reader, this is the greatest pick up line ever. I'm jealous of the US for the availability of christian resources. In 10 years of living in my city, I've only ever found 1 book that was a solid one. Its also very rare to find an actual christian bookstore. Everything is online and you can't check them out one site.
For all of the Mormons, or Latter Day Saints who are offended - I recommend the TH-cam channel called Hello Saints, where an evangelical Pastor compares your teachings with what Christians believe, what the bible says. Faith is speaking the truth in love. Praying for your eyes to be opened to the truth.
I don't think you Americans realised how blessed you are to have all these Christian resources. Here in New Zealand i don't know of any shops that sell commentaries apart from maybe one who might stock a 2nd hand set or two. We have a handful of Small Christian bookshops but they are usually top heavy with fiction. We normally mail order from Usa. I like how you show discernment looking at publishers etc.
I was saved over 14 years ago, and it wasn't until watching your channel that I learned about Bible commentaries. I'm going to have to check out my local Half Price Books to see if they have any there. I love your channel and you make this so fun!
I am 75 and sure do appreciate your channel. I admire your faith, knowledge, and love and commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in someone so young. There are many of you on TH-cam and many young people here on youtube who have come out of the new age and cults etc. rescued by Jesus and their love and knowledge of the Word is stunning. Thank you, honey for taking the time out of your busy family life to impart so much good stuff to us! You are new to me, and I will pray for you all. Tfs Your sis in Christ, Kathy😍
@@blessyourmemory I love that. I’m also a mature 69 year old new Christian and I love your channel. I can’t get enough delving into the word and you have cleared up so about finding books to help me understand what I’m reading of course I am still very careful and have only just started thinking about branching out this way. I’ve only been a new Christian for three years. You’re really making my journey through God‘s word amazing I mean God‘s word is amazing but now I just I guess now I can enjoy it as well. I mean, I can have fun just really digging deep and then finding out more information and then digging deeper I love it. I love it. I love it. Thank you.❤
Loved this “out in the wild” style video! I’d love to see this again in the future, because you never know what you’ll find and it helps to have someone lead us through that sifting process. ❤
For the paperback ones, you can take them to Office Depot and they will cut off the binding and replace it with a spiral binder. Then you don't have to worry about it falling apart.
I am totally in for 1/2 priced books! The reasons I am drawn to these stores is for the mystery of the find! I believe that all who enter into these stores wander the whole stores & the potential of wandering into the Religious section is there!!! God is good all the time!
Faith, I did not realize you live in Texas! Me, too. I love your videos and the information you share with us all. Blessings to you and your beautiful family!
Joe: "I'd like to read YOU up and down!!" 😳🤭 ... right on!! Thanks for this, Faith! I've really begun to pray for discernment over the past several months because of YT mostly. I feel good about the Bible study materials I've gotten, many of them by your recommendation, but I had been going in hook, line, and sinker for pretty much anyone I would see on YT, but a few friends of mine caught me and called me on it, and they were absolutely right. Heads up, everyone! Have a blessed weekend! Prayers, as always, for you and the fam. Hugs from the southern California desert, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗
I feel ya! Finding allergen friendly food is so hard! If I find something, I always take advantage. Thank you for all of your bible knowledge and sharing yourself with us!
Love using the Isaiah commentaries from Young! My school library does sales sometimes of older books or donated books, where paper back books are 50 cents and 1$ hardback books, so I tend to do my commentary shopping that time of year 😅. I got the entire set for Isaiah for 3 dollars, and it was helpful for my Isaiah study.
I SO appreciate this!!! I was just at a used bookstore today and was so unsure how to pick out a good resource. This is such valuable information!! Thank you Faith!!!
Lately, I can’t go into a Christian bookstore and find good biblically sound books of any type. The Christian bookstores near me are filled with prosperity preaching
Another Texan here. Just found your channel a couple of days ago and have enjoyed listening to your ways on how to study and journal to make it easier. Love going to my Half Price Bookstore and seeing what they have.
Hi Faith, you demonstrate genuine scholarship in this video. You reference characteristics of research, of knowledge about a variety of authors, the explicit purpose of each of the commentaries and books you are selecting, and ways to avoid being hoodwinked by ideas that are not theologically sound. You did such a fine job on this video.
Funny story about God of All Things….of course after your review I ordered it immediately. I had a dr’s appointment and took the book with me to read while waiting. I was checking out some new glasses and laid the book on the counter next to me. One of the sweet gals that works there asked me if it was a cook book! We had a good chuckle, I shared the AMAZING high points of the book, she took a photo of it and I’m sure is devouring it today. I dare say that this book should automatically be included with the purchase of every bible!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do and share with us. Psalm 91…..Beverly
Thank you so much for this! I have grown up not really reading anything outside the Bible, and wanted to learn how to find and pick good books! I love the way you check everything!! Definitely will do this!
Thank you for taking us along! I couldn’t wait to watch this video. I loved that you commented on so many of them and ones to watch out for. I appreciate that! I’m only 8:45 mins in… I know the rest will be good, so I’ll watch. I just wanted to stop and say thank you!
I had to go to Abe Books online today, where I found several really good copies of books you recommended, thank you. Now for a little laugh for the day; prior to becoming reborn as a true Christian, I was in the Mormon church - yes I know, that's quite a jump and a true Gift from God. I binged the "Left Behind" series (2X!) and honestly just thought it was great. Now, having become a reborn true Christian, follower of Christ and in my Gospel daily (I now have about 20 Bibles, God knew I was hungry :) I have found the truth about so many things I honestly didn't know before. I have really learned a lot from you, Faith, thank you so much. I am learning to honestly read and understand the Gospel as though I had never read it before. It has changed my life.
Thank you so much faith, I have been going to the thrift stores around us and I really appreciate you showing me and other people how to find good, strong, and faithful books.
Thank you for saying that about baby Christians. Im not a baby, I've been in church for 40 years, saved for 26. But I'm without my pastor/grandpa, without a church. I'm a single mom trying to raise and instruct a young Christian. I feel like there is a lot of pressure to know I give my young Christian good info from the beginning, and I feel like I'm floundering to learn to trust my own discernment.
Thanks for commenting on reading something out of our zone. I have personally found that when I read other points of view is when I study harder to confirm what I believe. I grow so much in those times. So important to challenge ourselves and know what we believe and why!
Our pastor once said of things we don't fully agree with, "eat the cherry and spit out the pit." I still do that, because you can gain perspective and more of a well rounded learning than just "staying in your lane."
I buy almost all of my resources at thrift stores. One of our favorite thrift stores has adult books 3 for $5 and I have gotten so many wonderful resource books from there. It is a Christian organization so they usually have 3-4 bookcases full of Christian books.
I discovered your channel a week or so ago; as a real 'dyed-in-the-wool' book junkie I knew I had to subscribe. I REALLY love your channel and since watching the first one, I have already purchased a number of really good second-hand books from e-bay. I find your channel really inspiring and you are so normal. Thanks very much. (Diane, England).
Thank you Faith, and Joe, for providing tips and details for selecting resources that could benefit our walk with Jesus. I think we even need to be careful about what we select from Christian book stores, in store and online, as they may carry resources and/or reading material that may be the best for us.
Perfect. Was at Half Price Books yesterday. It is affirming that I was using some of the same skills you described to sort through the resources on the shelves. I still learned more from you, though, and will be better prepared next time around. Thanks! Also, I have some bookstore envy. We don't have anywhere near the array of resources on the shelves of our Half Price Books.
Great mesaage, Faith! I actually just threw away some poor choice book purchases this morning. I don't want them to end up in anyone's cart. There is too much muck already on the shelves.
I love the new/used book store near my house. It's part of a family, locally owned chain, so I love supporting them. They have a large section on religious literature, and I often see quite a few of the books my father has in his library. He was an ordained minister, once upon a time, and has a lot of great books from his days in seminary and others he collected through the years. I snatch them up when I can. I've found Bibles at this same store that are brand new, still in the boxes for amazing prices. It's a very peaceful place to be, as well, so I just love slowly browsing the shelves.
Thank you so much for the hints on what to look for when shopping for bible study resources. I'm buying study resources. It's usually based on a trusted source and their review of the product. However, I love the idea of going to a used bookstore and looking at the "Religion section". I'm seeing a shopping trip this weekend. 😃
You're so right about the eschatological books. Thank you for being careful and getting your sources primarily from the Bible!! That sounds so elementary but so many people don't. 😔
This video was so helpful! I've been watching your channel now for weeks and I've learned so much from you about resources, and picking out the good from the bad. I agree that reading opposing views is so important. And no matter what we read or whom we listen to, we should do it with discernment from the Holy Spirit and weigh it out with Scripture, discerning truth from lies. There is this thing called gleaning that I learned about looong ago from the book of Ruth. Ruth and Naomi gleaned the fields, picking up whatever wheat was leftover after the harvest. And looong ago I saw the connection between that age-old custom of gleaning and how it relates to gleaning truth, often from the most unlikely people. And since I also knew that God spoke to Balaam through a donkey, I knew God could speak to me, even through an unbeliever, and even from a "secular" song, or a book written by a lost person. And God has spoken to me from unlikely people. So I glean the truth from wherever or whomever I can find it. And metaphorically speaking, I throw the rest of it in the proverbial trashcan. Thank you again for spending time teaching others, including myself, about how to dig deeper into the instruction manual for life.
THANK YOU so very much in posting this video. WOW!!! I was once a 'lazy Christian.' 😮 I know shameful right? What I thought I knew about the Bible, Holy Spirit said to me, I need you to dive DEEPER. Thank you for supporting me and others. 😀
Hi! I new to your channel. Your videos popped up on my feed about 3 weeks ago. First, thank you so much for your realness! So refreshing! Second, I work in the library at a public school. Love that you have mentioned using document repair tape before. Well, there is a way to protect your paperbacks for long term use. It's basically like really thick clear contact paper. It's a sticky laminate that you put on the paperback books to extend their life with multi use. We purchase it from a library resource company called Demco. The laminate is CircExtender. And it comes in rolls in different thicknesses. But you can order it from different places like Amazon. Just make sure it is self adhesive and not the laminate rolls for laminating machines. We don't have a lot of paperbacks in the library, but the few we do have last a long time with this stuff. Just make sure you cut it to have enough to wrap around the edges of the cover to stop the edges from fraying. Then i use the tape like your document tape to secure the edges of the laminate on the inside of the front and back covers. Just for added protection. Students like to pick at the tape. And with just your family using those paperback commentaries, they will last you a lifetime.
love this video! currently doing the matthew henry commentaries and i simply love it. though i am still in the beginner level but i hope that i will at least be able to scratch more than the surface of the entire bible in my entire life.
Another amazing video knocked outa the park! ⚾️ I especially love your tips & advice on building discernment in this one. It’s been a journey for me in building that and I finally think I’m getting somewhere. You’ve been a strong help to me in the year I’ve been following your channel. So glad I stumbled upon your stuff & grateful to be a patron. Lotsa luv & stay nerdy!! 📚 😇
Hey, I just found your videos two days ago. I am starting my deep bible study journey. You have really been a light at the end of a very disorienting tunnel when it comes to studying the WORD. So you said it got cold here in TX and looked in your description and you live in my area. I live in The Colony TX. Hi Neighbor!!
Really enjoyed this video, Faith! Makes me want to go to my bookstore and see what I can find. Thank you for all that you do and all the content you make. It really helps me!
Thank you so much Faith for sharing this. This was soooooo helpful and such a blessing to me. I really wasn’t to find some good theology books as well as commentaries and this was really helpful.
I love your channel and how honest/ faithful you are to God's word when give us advice. I appreciate it when you tell it like it is. Btw you guys are the cutest couple❤
Our Christian bookstore went out of business more than 10 years ago sadly. Amazon is good with multiple reviews and many used titles. Many on Kindle. If you get something you really don't like, their return policy is excellent. Plus there are so many free to borrow titles in the internet archives. You borrow an hour at a time and only return if someone else wants it. I also never attempt to read any end times books. I have enough to focus on here and now. Love the channel.
I’m so glad I found your channel. This video was helpful. I don’t have bookstores that sell this type of resources but when I do, I’ll watch this again.
Only an evangelical would see a section of the bookstore with hundreds of christian books (hundreds of books on the Bible alone!) and say that it's small and not enough. As a Jew I cannot even fathom having that perspective. Wow. Definitely worth critically examining that perspective
I'm in California. You have a much better selection than I do at my local half price books. And it's shrinking, sniff sniff, and a lot of the books there are things I don't want.
Tks so much I got the knowledge commentary and it helps me so much so I that you for everything you say I do believe you are a praying woman on this word so tk you
Just a little before the 16:00 mark, she was speaking truth, then the words "that was harsh" appeared on the screen. That's what I was responding to 🙂🦋
I love Half Price Books. I live in Dallas so have lots of stores to go to if I’m looking for something specific. I just found an Apologetic Bible that I have been looking. Thank you for reminding us to use discernment and not believe everything we read.
Heya . I just started to add to my library of bible study bibles by ordering my first commentaries (bible knowledge)which will be arriving this week. This video also helped allot to know what to look out for an of cos prayer as one should always before buying . I am so blessed by all the videos I have watched from u so far that u have posted.
We have several here in Houston area but often some are much higher than eBay or the Bible’s are priced crazy high. Also creepy seeing tarot decks mixed in but yep I grab a cart (buggy in my growing up years😂) and toss stuff in then go sit and look through and check reviews online. I love finding older gems🥰
@@BiblicalTeachings not sure. If they have I’ve never noticed but I’m having no trouble finding stuff with the stores, eBay, Amazon etc 😂😂😂 but christianbook is usually cheaper on bibles than hpb here
Thank you for this video. It is much needed, and I could never put in to words what and how you just have. I for one was afraid to read any thing but the well known Bible resources.. I have several tools and love them. But I know there is more! Thank you again.
This is great info - especially how to vet the author and the source of these books. I think that is so important, especially for those just getting started!
This was so good! I can get confused by all the books at times. I appreciate this and thankful for your channel. It's such a blessing! Your little boy is so cute!
Hi Faith!! I really love your channel, and you have inspired me so much in my scripture study life. I wanted to say, I am a Mormon, or a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I appreciate that you wanted to give your audience insights into which books they want to look out for, but I am a Christian!! I believe that Christ is the Savior of the world!! I believe in Him and love Him. He has saved me and changed me. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us each week; I always look forward to your videos (:
I love your videos! Your shorts are great too! So many great nuggets, tips and encouragements. I’m in the Frisco area, what’s your favorite local bakery?
100% agree, always take it to God. Listen to the Spirit, sometimes it’s opinion… not scriptural. And other times it’s just wrong, lean on Gods understanding ❤❤❤ 23 min in hell was the first book I ever read. Very good read. 😊 I took it with a grain of salt. But he covers with several Bible verses pointing to his experience. Pretty intense but good read
You can tell it's a secular bookstore because if they had real Christians working there (dare I say that?) they would have someone (hopefully) who could separate the sheep from the goats, so to speak. Sometimes I use the publisher to determine whether a book is worth my time. Tynedale, Zondervan, IVP, pubs like that I know are not going to publish stuff that's not in line with the Word.
Honestly--Half Price books has a better Christian/Religious books section than the new book stores. And most of our local Christian book stores have closed (I think there is still a Mardels across town)
This video is very helpful. I never thought about needing to be careful who and what I read. I also didn't know that the Mormon church add to the bible.
I'm not Christian but I study the bible in my spare time and it's super interesting to see that we struggle with the same things when buying resources! You always have to check authors, broad theology, and the denomination (or sometimes whether or not it's from a cult).

That’s a good way to look at it. Sort of like how Jesus spent time around those who others looked down upon.
Well said. 💜🌻
Agreed and I come from the same background. It was my intrigue that brought me back to Christ 🙌
Never thought of that...wow God really does use everything in ways we'd never think of

One of the few things I miss about Texas is HPB. It was my happy place!
REALLY ENJOYED this Faith! Thank you for taking us along! Very helpful! 😊
I love you!!!! God bless you sister!! Amazing to see how much you know!!!
Thank you!!! This the video I’ve been needing!!
Glad it was helpful!
Really enjoyed this video, Faith! Makes me want to go to my bookstore and see what I can find. Thank you for all that you do and all the content you make. It really helps me!
Enjoyed!! Please do this more often!! xo
Such a cool video Faith. I would love to shop in that book store. I hope you enjoy your books!
Currently reading God of all things on your recommendation and I love it! Eye opening!
It's so good!
Tks so much I got the knowledge commentary and it helps me so much so I that you for everything you say I do believe you are a praying woman on this word so tk you
That wasn't harsh - it was truth!
???
Just a little before the 16:00 mark, she was speaking truth, then the words "that was harsh" appeared on the screen. That's what I was responding to 🙂🦋
@@kathryngossett4380 got it! thanks!
You're welcome 🙂🦋
I love Half Price Books. I live in Dallas so have lots of stores to go to if I’m looking for something specific.
I just found an Apologetic Bible that I have been looking.
Thank you for reminding us to use discernment and not believe everything we read.
Heya . I just started to add to my library of bible study bibles by ordering my first commentaries (bible knowledge)which will be arriving this week. This video also helped allot to know what to look out for an of cos prayer as one should always before buying . I am so blessed by all the videos I have watched from u so far that u have posted.
Your baby boy is adorable, thank you for these videos. I hope someyI can become this way, study the word to show myself approved!
This encourages me to really look into the author, who endorces the book, who published the book before I purchase it.
This was awesome! I never turn down a field trip to the bookstore! How fun! Love shopping with you! I learned that I have a lot to learn! Lol😊
This is great info - especially how to vet the author and the source of these books. I think that is so important, especially for those just getting started!
This is one of my fav videos of yours. Would love to see another like it. 🤍
This was so good! I can get confused by all the books at times. I appreciate this and thankful for your channel. It's such a blessing! Your little boy is so cute!
Pray for discernment brothers and sisters 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I lived in Texas myself for a few years, and LOVED Half Price Books for reading and homeschooling books. Nothing like this where I am now sadly.
Thank you for this today!
I love this!!!!! This is so great for the visual person like me! Such a great video idea!! 🩷🩷🩷
YAY! I am so glad. :) I enjoyed mixing things up for sure
Love all of this! Thank you.
And other times it’s just wrong, lean on Gods understanding ❤❤❤
23 min in hell was the first book I ever read. Very good read. 😊
I took it with a grain of salt. But he covers with several Bible verses pointing to his experience.
Pretty intense but good read
Thanks for sharing your knowledge .
THANK YOU for talking about Mormonism writing cult literature
You can tell it's a secular bookstore because if they had real Christians working there (dare I say that?) they would have someone (hopefully) who could separate the sheep from the goats, so to speak. Sometimes I use the publisher to determine whether a book is worth my time. Tynedale, Zondervan, IVP, pubs like that I know are not going to publish stuff that's not in line with the Word.
Your channel is amazing ❤❤❤
Very well done! Thank you for your time and reasonable thoughts!
Thank you for sharing your thrifted resources tips and info!!
I take screenshots of all the books you hold up in all of your videos…. One day….one day… lol ❤❤❤
Wow, your so lucky to have that kind of book store available to you, where I am, we have very little in the area of used Christian books 😏
My husband and I love to go to half price books! Most of my study supplements come from not used bookstores!
I love your videos. Keep the great videos coming.
💞💞💞great thanks Faith 😊
I'm not Christian but I study the bible in my spare time and it's super interesting to see that we struggle with the same things when buying resources! You always have to check authors, broad theology, and the denomination (or sometimes whether or not it's from a cult).
Keep videos like this coming!
I love it💯
