Also, the reason most of those online commentaries are free is that they're no longer under copyright, since they're mostly from the 19th century or earlier. So even the ones that do provide more detailed exegesis obviously couldn't take advantage of all the scholarship (including discoveries of lots more ancient documents and manuscripts) we've had since then.

Have you heard of Enduring Word Bible commentary? It’s also free, can be downloaded as an app, and in terms of the ending of Mark they list BOTH arguments in terms of whether it should belong in the Bible or not. It’s one I’ve been using and they do have so much good stuff in there!

I am a lover of digging into the Word and have been so inspired by your videos! I just can't stop watching them because they are giving me so many ideas on maximizing my Bible with notes! I don't have much space in my current Bible, which I love, it's the Spirit Filled Study Bible. But I'm planning to order a journaling Bible and use them both. I love the commentary in my current Bible and look forward to studying with it and a journaling Bible. I usually write my notes in a notebook but I love the idea of having them in my Bible. At least the really important notes and revelations. Thank you for sharing. So much inspiration.💐🌷💗

For what it’s worth, lol. My take on Mark 16:9-20 is this. Even if we cannot stand on it as authoritative like so many other passages, we can at least cross reference it with supporting verses elsewhere. I do that with other study material as well. 🌺

The MacArthur Commentary has some interesting information about the end of Mark. Based on my brief reading just a few minutes ago, it seems like this particular commentary is of the "it wasn't in the original manuscript;" however he does note that this could be wrong and recommends you research and cross reference to decide for yourself.
I also want to say, I have recently (last month or so) found your channel and you have encouraged me to do a deeper study and read through of the Bible. I haven't read it cover to cover before, so this is a new goal of mine. So I wanted to say thank you for your videos and sharing what you know.

Thanks for you comment on application vs. exegesis. In my studying I found that exegesis and learning interpretation is of the utmost importance and from there submit to the Holy Spirit to bring application to the believer in prayer and alone time with God. Too many churches have adopted this over-emphasizing of application in their sermons and it has left many people ignorant regarding what Scripture actually teaches on a matter.

1689 Reformed Baptist here. These have been my favorite and go to commentaries lately:
    1. Reformed Commentary of Scripture (My Favorite)
    2. Ancient Commentary on Scripture
    3. New International Commentary of New and Old Testament (Especially Roman's by Douglas Moo)
    4. Preaching The Word Commentaries
    5. Jon Courson Application Commentary (Yes I understand it's not reformed)
Here and there: Tyndale, Pillar, Calvin, Mathew Henry, John MacAurthur
Want to get: Reformed Expository Commentary (Looks really great minus only being written by Presbyterians)
    Study Bibles:
    Reformed Study Bible
    Reformed Heritage Bible
    MacAurthur Study Bible
I have logos and it makes it very easy to use all of these for deep study.

I have purchased a lot of commentaries on kindle when they are on sale. This is often a mixed bag, as sometimes the structure doesn't transfer to kindle very well, and it can be hard to find things. Other's are fantastic and very easy to use. The benefits to purchasing on kindle (at least for me) are that I usually get the books for 99 cents to 1.99. Some have even been free, and sometimes I spend a little more. This gives me access to the information, and the opportunity to decide if I want to spend the money on a physical copy or not. I prefer studying from physical resources, but since I can't afford to buy them all, and I don't have space for them all, this has been a helpful solution for me. I can still study, and I can also decide if the resource I want is worth my spending the money on.

Hi there, I just started watching your videos a week ago! When comparing free online resources with physical commentaries, I'm surprised you didn't mention Studylight, which has a plethora of commentaries. Also, some physical commentaries are available for free in online libraries, where you have access to the scanned pages. We live abroad and benefit tremendously from these online resources for Bible study. I love traveling light, and all I need is my iPad Pro, and I immediately have access to all my Bible resources. I doubt I would ever purchase physical commentaries because I travel a lot and I like to have immediate access to my resources. Logos is also a good option, and the NICOT is available there, though not free. Still, I digress 😃 Finally, I want to mention that I enjoyed your videos from three years ago when you would talk about how you want a big family, etc. Your recent videos are more like I'm watching a show as opposed to having a heart-to-heart with the Christian girl from next door. I also want to complement your editing skills…. absolutely top-notch 👍🏽

I use logos in my 10in tablet, bought a few of their old legacy libraries which includes commentaries and dictionaries. With $50, you will get a lot. I don't regret my purchases but it is as Faith said, if you are finding yourself having questions that your current resource is not answering, time to graduate to a more comprehensive resource. I am not a seminary student, I do personal bible study with the inductive method and I'd say at least get a bible study if you are a beginner, next graduate to a single volume comm or 2vol comm like the BKC, one day I will use a comm for single books of the Bible (when sales comes). Whatever the resource, it should point you to transform your mind, heart, actions.

It has many commentaries available, including John MacArthur's 33 volume New Testament set, which is amazing for the depth of it's verse by verse analysis. A lot of my commentary resources are on my kindle but I do prefer physical copies and thrift books has been a great source to keep an eye out for that..The commentary by Finis Dake looked interesting but on looking him up I saw that he taught the heresy of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit having separate bodies and being in unity w one another the way three men would be. I don’t mind having works by those I don’t agree with on everything but that ones too far out of my range I think.

After thousands of dollars on commentaries and study Bibles, I go back to my old falling apart Warren Wiersbe commentaries . Now I am doing his Be series studies. I have done Matthew and Mark. I love them! I have given the Mark one as a gift to several people. It covers so much yet is not as long as Matthew. I know most today will not stick with a long study so if anyone does Mark and sees how good it is I gladly buy them Matthew next.

Imma no commentary kinda girl. I had rather use the Bible to define itself, that pretty much cuts out the middle man (good pun by the way😂). I might throw in a historical reference but other than that, that's it.

God gives us good teachers to help. I use to not realize how much I was missing out by not realizing how God has blessed us with wise teaching like Warren W. Wiersbe study books. If you would read just one you would be amazed. Mark is a great one to start with.

Dake was a nut. His study Bible is mixed with random nonsense he basically made up. I’m surprised 1. that it’s still in print and 2. that you have it and don’t know how controversial it is.

At the risk of sounding like tinfoil hat guy, I have a distrust of online sources when they can be altered at whim, and with the changes in the world in recent times, I'd like a more stable version at my fingertips, regardless of the convenience factors.

I decided to buy the 2-volume Bible Knowledge commentary. That's probably as far as I'll go since I'm not a seminary student & I can't spend much.
