  • When is a MINI no longer mini-sized? When it grows a foot to become the 2016 MINI Clubman. The growth may upset some MINI fans, but it makes the new Clubman more appealing for American shoppers.

    I remember watching your review on the X5M a few years ago via TTAC, and I'm glad to see that you have evolved into an absolutely TOP NOTCH reviewer. I will gladly recommend your content to both the clueless and to the enthusiasts in the family. You are honest and upfront with your own personal preferences, and you give the cars an honest review. There is nothing I hate more than seeing an alleged 'review' of a vehicle turn into 'how much can I praise it so X manufacturer keeps sending me cars'. Your profession is well served by people like you. Cheers!

    I just priced out a bad ass clubman at the dealership for 29, 965. Took it for a test drive and its a fucking blast... Go buy a civic or a ford, just know you are buying the same car as my grandmother. 5 stars, buying it friday. Put a cold air intake on that and you are done.... Let those turbos breathe

    Right on target. Mini/BMW is targeting this vehicle for the upscale market. Unfortunately Mini has started to "package" their cars versus being able to customize. Frankly I think it's a mistake. Being able to make the car what you want is a big plus. You are right on with the ride and handling. It's a car a driver would like. I'm a bit biased in that I've bought the Cooper S Clubman and just added a JCW Clubman to the fleet.

    I have a diesel version of this and find it very fast ! as in 0-60 in less than 8 seconds and plenty of leg room in the back seats. Pushing the front seats all the way back does not show a true measurement of the room in the rear of the car, because the front seats will never be needed to be that far back with anyone driving or sitting in the passenger front seat. I’ve carried many passengers in the back seats and have never had any complaints about lack of leg room.

    I've always wanted a Mini and this is an epic review: it leads me to think I really want a 1964 rally-spec Mini from BMC, ie a go-kart without so much bloat. Any idea what I should get? Golf owner here, satisfied but bored with the VW.

    Oh you want a Backup Camera? Well that's a $1,750 package.
    What about Sat. Radio? Yeah, that's a $300 option.

    Thanks for review. We are getting lightly used (9K miles) 2016 base model with nice options for 18K. Perfect condition. That's ~45% off sticker. 3 years left on warranty and 2 years of free maintenance. Its a little strange to hear complaints about acceleration in a mini. These are VERY perky cars. How fast do you need to go? Believe me it will get you way over speed limit very fast. I don't plan on drag racing anyone and its a hoot to drive. Cheers!

    I think you are a little confused with your Mini Car comparisons as mentioned here.
    You say that the older version which used a Peugeot 1.6 motor as did all the Mini cooper incarnations up until 2015 was quicker at 7.2 0 - 100 than this new 1.5. 3 Cylinder - which clocked 9.2 .
    The only Mini models that clock the lower time are all COOPER S variants !
    The previous Clubman used the base 1.6 as used by the Hatch and Countryman with all variants coming around the low to mid 9 s - 0 -100 .
    I had the pleasure of driving a new Clubman for 5 days and was amazed at its power and acceleration 0 -100.
    I had driven a Mini Cooper S paceman prior to this which was a fabulous drive but not quite as quick as the new Cooper S Clubman .
    You mention that the Cooper S will be as quick as a mid sized sedan , which is absurd !
    The Cooper S clubman i drove was clocking 0 -100 in 6.9 secs .
    Find me a mid size 4 or 6 cylinder standard sedan that goes that hard and I will buy it!

  • @kipamore
    @kipamore 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Funny thing; almost every OEM makes a 2 liter turbo FWD rig these days. I could be wrong, but I believe the Focus ST is king of the hill at 253hp.Mini's has to be right near the bottom at 189hp. Not that wringing max hp out of a 2.0 is a good metric, but it's an interesting common point when comparing brand to brand.

    • @rusack7174
      @rusack7174 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe I've also read that for the mix of power, combustion and fuel efficiency .5 liter per cylinder is the sweet spot.

    Hi Alex , if you could include reliability factor also that can help us take final decision . You are doing great job.

    • @rusack7174
      @rusack7174 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on ones perspective. If say coming from a 60's or 70's British sports car this will be supremely reliable and durable. If comparing to say, Honda or Toyota, not so much. Not to say that it will barely make it out of the dealer's lot, far from it, but statistically it's middle pack. Most owners will have little to nothing to complain about while some won't be as fortunate.

    • @guptavishwas
      @guptavishwas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +R Usack +Alex I was talking in general as I have seen lots of videos of Alex but never found Alex giving details about reliability part of the vehicle. Alex provides almost all the details and comparing with other vehicles also but for middle class family reliability is very very important and that does not get mentioned

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trouble is: we can't talk about model reliability when there are no applicable stats to talk about. The Clubman is too new to comment on future reliability, it's a new engine, new 8-speed transmission and although styled like the last model, the majority of the vehicle is new as well.
      The trouble with new car reviews is that we're often reviewing cars before crash tests or reliability studies are complete so commenting on reliability would be either guesswork or just broad-brush "brand reliability" which can vary wildly from model to model.

    • @guptavishwas
      @guptavishwas 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex on Autos thanks... What I mean if it is new model then not mentioning reliability is fine but if it's not a new model just minor refresh then we can show reliability numbers from authentic 3rd parties ...if possible

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true, but I rarely review cars that have been around long enough to comment, so it seems odd or possibly unfair to comment every 20th video and leave out most. Looking over the last 60 videos, only two (Soul & Encore which has yet to be released) have been around long enough to comment on reliability. The rest are either all new or so different that it would be impossible to speculate. I understand the desire for reliability information and we're working with True Delta to see what we can do, but I don't see much of a substantial change aside from possible links to True Delta's reliability research, which would only cover older models.

    Better to have all those options than to be forced into a zero-choices packaging scheme, like VW, Ford, and most others do. You can build a MINI exactly how you want it, right down to the interior color scheme. Who else gives you the freedom to order a manual transmission together with ANY other equipment combinations you want, all the way up to fully-loaded? Nobody -- that's who!

    • @aymed92

    It might seem weird to some, but it actually annoys the hell outta me that they plaster "C L U B ][ M A N" on the equally split back doors. Seriously, it's not balanced, it's a word with an odd number of letters that can't be split equally. They should either change to a name with even numbers of letters, move the lettering or just completely redesign the doors.

    1.4: Benefits of the motor vehicle to the beneficiary.
    1.4.1: Direct benefits of the asset.
    The motor vehicle is intended to offer the following direct benefits to the beneficiary;
    • Facilitating movement from home to work and any other errands during the course of work
    • It will boast the economic status of the beneficiary as he will be using it to do business like; renting out for weddings, short hires and generally other economic ventures that may be viable.
    • It will help the beneficiary improve his performance at the workplace as he will have a sense of comfort, reach early in time for work and it will be a major motivating factor at his job.
    • It will ensure safety of the beneficiary avoiding incidents like; contagious diseases- cough, Ebola, skin disorders, acts of terrorism which mainly target people who use public means
    1.4.2: Indirect benefits of the motor vehicle to the beneficiary.
