I have a 2018 Mini JCW Clubman all4, this is a great car. Drives amazing, carves through corners and foot torgue all the way up to maximum desired speed. I have the automatic which can drive in numerous settings to match the driving conditions you want. Very quick and agile, quick acceration, and room for guest and stuff. Drives racy upon demand.
My thoughts exactly. I'm about to get my first mini and this is the one for me. I have a Honda fit that I can put my mt bike in. I thought I'd have to nix that but not with this car. I didn't want a huge boat of a car to pull a light Aliner, this can do it and it it will be great for the every day commute with Massholes. Cute guy, cute accent (bonnet, lol). Thanks for all the well researched points and great sense of humor.
I’ve got a 2016 Clubman that I bought new. It’s a fabulous-handling car, with a great ride. Other top things about it: adaptive cruise control with auto gearbox means you only have to steer; 8-inch infotainment screen with 3-D satnav (option); panoramic sun/moon roof (option); heads-up display telling speed limit and birds-eye junction info (option); Harman Kardon stereo (option). Things I don’t like: roar from runflat tyres; can’t see traffic lights through low windscreen. View through split rear doors is fine, whatever people say. And I much prefer electronic handbrake because it uses far less space.
I wonder if the drivers height makes a difference to the view? I dont have trouble with traffic lights but really struggle to see out the back! I love the car but dont get to drive it much as my wife uses it all the time!
furiousdriving I bought it with all the driver aids to encourage my wife to learn to drive but she still hasn’t. But now I can’t imagine life without the driver aids.
I’m with you on keyless cars - however, I drove a brand new Merc C class last week which solved the problem - when you get in the car, the key is slotted in the dashboard and you twist it to start the engine - ingenious!
Genius! A kind of coded key like device that unlocks the car when you turn it...hmmm. So they've solved the problem of keyless storage by bringing back the key! haha!
I completely agree about the lack of space saver tyre and the handbrake and the key not having a home as they have all caused me issues but it is a nice car and well built. to my eye though it is a little too wide when you look at it from the front. Good video, keep them coming.
Thank you! I think the kick out on the rear arches is meant to visually narrow the front. Glad its not just me being annoyed by those, Ill do an update in a while and see how we get on with it
The only thing I dislike intensely is the rear light cluster; turn signals and stop lamps are in the bumper. Not only ridiculous, but can be easily damaged, and dangerous if the driver behind you is not paying attention, which many today are not. Have ridden in a classic three door Mini (the BMW Mini), like riding in a go-cart! Quick, nimble, sporting.
As a mini fan I love the R56 and I knew someone in the mini club that had this version, we went to a mini anniversary show and people were like is this a mini?? Driven a countryman and my impressions were as you say a premium product and it did not feel like a Mini but more of a small BMW SUV, still enjoyed it through but would have a Clubman over a countryman.
A great review, good content and an honest appraisal. I've just ordered an F54 Exclusive with some nice extras and can't wait for September. Thanks again.
Excellent video! My folks have one of these on a 16 plate which they bought brand new, red with black roof and an automatic. They also have a 1974 MGB GT.
Two great choices! We nearly went for the red as out 2012 R55 was Chilli red (and so is my 2001 Y reg) but as soon as we saw this blue that was the choice, and as we plan on keeping it long term it had to look good. Do you get to drive either of them?
Thanks! Good choice, MR2s are huge fun and there lots of stuff out there for them, Mk2s should have power steering, the Mk1 didn't but it was tiny and weighed less than a bag of crisps so didnt need it, but the mk2 was a lot bigger and had wider tyres
It’s not the same, I worked there during the development and it is much bigger, every panel is different, but I’m glad that it worked that the deceased people into thinking it’s the same
Thanks for the great video! Just ordered my F54... won't get it until July unfortunately. In the meantime, we can still wheel around in her sister, our F56 :)
@@furiousdriving Burgundy... no stripes (yet), iconic interiour... hasn't started production yet, and then needs to come across the pond... can't wait!!!
Great watch - Ive just taken delivery of the 2020 R54 cooper sport and love it. One point ive noticed is there is no passenger air bag disable switch so it looks like you cannot put any child/seat in the front passenger side -there is a warning on the visor but no switch even there is an indicator warning light near the rear view mirror (dosent seem to light though)
Can we have an update as to how you are getting on with the car . I had a go in a Cooper JCW with the uprated engine . The ride put me off with 19inch alloys. Not tried one on 18s . If that improves things will look at a second hand one next year as, other than the ride, it ticks most boxes.
robtt The 18” improve feel as do non run flats but you need to get the adaptive dampers to get the best suspension comfort which to be honest is still firm.
Hi great video thank you. Just wondering if you have ever measured the boot see how big actually is? When seats are up? We can’t find the actual dimensions anywhere and want to know if our tent would fit if the seats are up normal. Hope you are still enjoying it 😊
I thought that I had seen this on the driveway at furiousdriving Headquarters in some other videos, so it is good to know that I was correct. Isn't this the same engine used in the BMW i8 in a different state of tune?
@@furiousdriving, they are differently tuned, but basically the same engine from what I gather. I saw one at Goodwood Festival of Speed last week... Naturally Ben from Planet Auto had an i8 as a press car last year and loved every minute of it! I do like the colour of your wife's Mini Clubman too.
furiousdriving - i like both. My partner has a Mini One, which i enjoy driving, but it can’t beat the Jazz Sport for practicality and whizzing up a steep hill. The Jazz Sport the same weight as a Mazda Miata MX5, so power to weight it’s not bad. Regarding a Cooper, i would now go for the Cooper over the Cooper S and save some money. I only just realised the bonnet vent on the Cooper S F series is just for show. 130 bhp is enough power for these little cars on our roads. I admit i am mainly a biker but if i could only have 4 wheels then a Cooper might be on the cards. Safe driving & thanks for the video.
It doesn't support Android Auto according to Mini. And what's with the raging against electric handbrake? They're far superior. Far more clamping force for secure parking, impossible to only partially apply like a mechanical handbrake. 70,000 miles with mine and its faultless. It even let's itself off when you drive away.

matt egan that is a bmw not a mini

The point of keyless entry is that you leave your keys in your pocket or purse or wherever you carry it.
Have you seen how big a Mini key is? Chuck on a door key or 2 and I cant get it in my pocket, never mind sit down without hurting myself!

Jazz Sport may have been a cheaper option with a similar spec and it still has a proper gear leaver...
But is it as nice to drive?

Sorry but that is not a mini. It is huge BMW and should be called the maxi. This car has no resemblance to the proper mini and it is hideously ugly.
