Thank you all so much for following me on my riding habit journey! 🥰 Reply to this comment with ideas for what color you'd make the waistcoat to go with this ensemble!
I think it would look amazing with a cream or ivory vest and matching skirt made of wool would look fabulous together or it can have a pure black vest and skirt as well possibly made of silk taffeta or black wool
I made a 1730s riding habit jacket but the sleeve digs into front of armpit when I go to cross my arms is that normal or do I need to widen the armscye
If you are unsure about ruffles, at least permanent ones, maybe you can make some that attach with hooks and eyes or buttons for when you want them and easy to remove when you dont! I think it looks great without, but might be nice to make them a bit extra sometimes!
I like the outcome. For me it seems like your shoulders are wider than the pattern ones and that also makes some folds where there shouldn't be. And when you did the mockup, for me it seems also the back waist was too low. Please don't get me wrong, it's just my thoughts. 🙈 still a lovely piece in the end! Got the pattern just a few days ago and now waiting to be able to start it. Sadly other things have priority.
Thanks for sharing your perspective on the fit! I know I still have a lot to improve with my fitting - I'll keep my shoulders and back waist proportions in mind with my next make :) Good luck on your riding habit!
@@Pour_La_Victoire thank you. Fitting isn't that easy, especially when doing it yourself. I have to say I learned a lot from the German Dirndl sewing. 😅

Black with pink trim, and yes all the ruffles, would it be correct to have ruffles at the gap below the neckline?
Yes, I could add some ruffles to the neckline of the shirt underneath to fill in that gap. A pastel pink waistcoat would look very cute!

Gonna make a book cosplay. It will be black with gold highlights, military style. 😁

Thank you for showing something that isn’t entirely hand sewn. It’s totally okay to combine the machine and hand! Beautiful project.
Thank you so much! There's no shame in machine sewing in my sewing corner :)
That tip to interweave the lining and main fabric at the corner is genius!
Thanks, I'm so glad it's helpful!
Isn't it? I never thought about it!
"Follow the wrinkles" is such a great way to word that! Your jacket came out so great after such a journey!
Thank you so much! One of these days I'll make an embroidery hoop to hang up in my sewing corner with "follow the wrinkles" on it as a reminder LOL
The cuff portion kinda melted my mind but your riding habit jacket looks fantastic!
Haha "mind melted" is how I felt during the process too! ❤
Cool, Thank you for the information on the corners
You're welcome!
Yes to the ruffles. Gorgeous jacket
Thank you! I'm thinking of maybe linen ruffles?
It was interesting to see the creases disappear as you raised the waistline. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad that was helpful to see! Thank you for watching.
Very pretty 😀
Thank you 😊
It’s beautiful!
Thank you so much!
A froth of lacy ruffles at cuff and neck would look awesome.
Great idea, thank you!
Wow this turned out so good! I am starting a riding habit mock up this week and your fitting notes are so helpful!
Yay, thank you! I'm so glad it was helpful! Can't wait to see how your riding habit turns out :)

Making the ruffles detachable is a brilliant idea! Then I can use the ruffles with other outfits too!
Beautiful result and very helpful information - thank you
You're welcome, and thank you too!
Good thing you didn't throw it out. It looks fantastic!
Thank you!

Honestly I wouldn’t add permanent ruffles, but maybe you could make some removable flounces?
I really like the idea of removable flounces that I can use on other garments (or even on the cuffs of the shirt I'm wearing with the riding habit) 🤔
@@Pour_La_Victoire I know that there is historical context for such a thing- I have some patterns from sources I can forward you, if you like!
How many yards of fabric did you need for this?
I think the jacket took about 2 yards of fabric
@@Pour_La_Victoire Thank you!
