    The jacket turned out beautifully. The use of the same striped linen for lining the jacket that was used for your pirate petticoat was a great idea and look lovely. I also loved the tailored method of sleeve construction having never seen it before. I only discovered your channel recently, but I've been thoroughly enjoying your 18th century content. I look forward to more in future. Thank you Gracie. Best wishes. Anna

    Thank you so much for posting! I am currently working on my mockup of my very first 18th century jacket! I've been looking up construction videos and I am so happy you posted a hand-sewed jacket!

    Gracie, this is a fantastic tutorial! I used this video for each step of creating my first jacket. I really appreciate your explanation of each stitch you used. Thank you for making this video! It's helpful beyond words!

    A delightful video! I enjoyed watching you carefully hand sew the jacket using the various stitching techniques of the eighteenth century. I love you choice of fabric, and enjoyed the glimpses of your pirate fabric peeking out underneath the beautiful brown floral.
    I hope you get to wear it to an event someday soon. Also, what a lovely kitty!

    It’s so awesome that you don’t gloss over the dark history of this period of desired cotton fabrics. Your videos are awesome and have inspired me to pursue my creation of 18th century fashion :)

    I felt the urge to make myself a better jacket, so I searched TH-cam and found your awesome video. Thank you! Your fit tips will be so helpful. Since I don't know where to find a bodkin, I've been using a darning needle to lace up stays and my beginner's jacket. It's blunt so I don't stab myself, but has a wide enough head to fit twill tape while still fitting through the eyelets. 😁

      I'm glad the video was helpful!! I think that Burnley and Trowbridge sells bodkins, but darning needles definitely work too :)

    This is lovely work. Your stitching is exquisite and your work is well cut and nicely made in general. You explained each stage well so your the process was easy to follow. I do hope that you are proud of your abilities, and I really enjoyed watching this. This is the first time I have seen any of your tutorials and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

    Thank you Gracie! I'm planning to make this jacket and seeing it being made is so helpful since I'm still getting a grasp on 18th century construction 🤯💗

    That sleeve trick is just magical! I'm new to your channel, so I'll check if you've done a different video about just that technique, but if not could you? To show the inside and outside after it's complete? the turn happened so fast and easy that I can't visualize it! LOL! It's like a magic trick.

    • @GraciePattenSewing

      I can do that, that's a good idea (also sounds like an easy to edit video - I've been in an editing slump lol)

    This is EXACTLY what I needed! I’m a visual learner and I was having such a hard time finishing a detailed video for making a jacket. I can’t wait to start working on mine! Thank you so much!

    Very interesting video! The construction method and order was so different from modern sewing!

    • @GraciePattenSewing
      @GraciePattenSewing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah! I think the construction process is about efficiency when sewing - why sew a lining and a fashion fabric layer individually when you could just stitch them together as one? I really like the process though.

    I made a jacket from this pattern, which I can also highly recommend, these patterns are also taken directly from extant garments: www.jpryan.com/details/jacket.html

    This is so very pretty you are so helpful and inspirational thank you so much do you wear a bum roll?

    • @GraciePattenSewing
      @GraciePattenSewing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Usually, a bum roll ties around the waist, under the petticoats but over the stays. It's basically a pillow with a ribbon at the top to tie around the waist, if that helps.
