    Ah, I love how I came back to check what fabric you used and it was in the description.

    First, thank. you for your instructional videos. I have learned a lot from them.
    Second: Dawn dish soap, (the blue color, the one with the duckling on the label) is amazing at removing stains, particularly grease/oil stains. Use a few drops straight from the bottle and a few drops of water, rub in, let sit while you prepare the rest of your laundry, and then proceed as normal. That oil/grease stain should come right out. To remove sweat stains, try a mixture of Dawn (the blue one again), some OxiClean, and water - 1 tablespoon of each mixed together. Use a toothbrush or something similar, to apply to the stains, let sit as you prepare the rest of that load of laundry, and wash as normal. You might have to do this 2 or 3 times if the stains are very old, but they will lift out.

      Thank you! I really appreciate the stain removal tips - will have to try those to revive that chemise!

      @@Pour_La_Victoire Blue Dawn, the one with the duck on the label, is amazing stuff. AND, you can use it to do your regular dishes, so it can always be in the house. I have used it on so many different stains. BE WARNED, Dawn dish soap in other colors might bleach your fabric. Use only the blue Dawn. I bought some green Dawn once, and it bleached a t-shirt of mine that has been stained with drops of oil from cooking.... Hope you can revive your old chimese!

    I like how you snip the pattern to use the size you need. I usually leave the pieces attached and trace my size onto paper. But I’m going to try your way next time!
    And as usual, amazing work!

      Thank you! I hope it works for you! I usually trace pattern pieces if they haven't already been cut, but this pattern has been swiss cheesed so I felt that it wasn't worth it to trace them 🙂

      Just buy extra patterns when on sale at Hobby Lobby or JoAnns (usually $1.99).

    This is soooo helpful, especially the part about attaching the sleeve facings!! However, I'm definitely going to following your method of squaring out the yoke so I don't have to deal with that curved placket. :)

      @@Pour_La_Victoire yours is the only tutorial that has inspired me , honestly it’s true, iv just found the pattern too , I’m from Liverpool in England and there’s not a lot of people who follow historical dress so I am going to modernise the chemise and drawers into pyjamas by closing the legs and maybe putting buttons on the shoulders of the neck of chemise 🤷‍♀️but I will definitely share you on Instagram, keep your videos coming please they are fabulous ❤️❤️❤️

      I wore this chemise with a wide belt around the waist as a cute sundress 😎 it also looks great tucked into a skirt, and no one was the wiser that it was a Victorian chemise!

    I've ordered this pattern and I'm waiting for it to arrive, I was so glad to find your video!
    I have a question about flat felling the side seams : did you do it by hand or is there a machine equivalent to felling?

    • @Pour_La_Victoire
      @Pour_La_Victoire  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yay, good luck with making your chemise! Flat felling is a technique that can be done be hand or machine. You'll often find machine flat felled seams on modern pants and jeans! I used a sewing machine for flat felling the side seams of the chemise; I just folded the seam allowances down and used the straight stitch on my sewing machine. The important thing to remember when flat felling is to trim one of the seam allowances to reduce bulk when the other seam allowance is folded and "felled" over it.

      @@Pour_La_Victoire Wow, thanks for the quick answer ! And for your videos, I think I'll be binge watching your historical clothing videos in the days to come.

    • @elizabethrobbins8580
      @elizabethrobbins8580 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically, a flat-felled seam can only be done by machine. A felled seam can only be done by hand. Felled seams are invisible from the front if done using matching thread. Flat-felled seams are always visible from the front even if done with matching thread.

    Ive used this pattern,and found the shoulders slipped off. I had to do some adjusting which took almost as long as the shift itself!

    • @Pour_La_Victoire
      @Pour_La_Victoire  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine slips off the shoulders too, but when I wear it with a corset, it stays on fine 🙂 for everyday use as pajamas, I put a big pleat in the back of the neckline sometimes to help keep it on

    What needles do you use for your hand sewing? I just found your channel, and you use this same needle in each video. Nice and long and not too thin looking. I must get some of these!

    • @Pour_La_Victoire
      @Pour_La_Victoire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Bohin millinery needles. They glide easily through cotton and silk fabrics. Often as I use the needles they develop a slight curve in the middle, which makes them even easier to sew with.

      @@Pour_La_Victoire Thank you so much! You do such lovely work! I’ve only done regency and a tiny bit of 18th century for a fun trip to Williamsburg. I’m about to dive into 1840/1850s as there’s so much more in Texas in that timeframe. Thank you for every tutorial! They are amazingly thorough. That is invaluable. 💗💗

    I am confused about is the 1840s chemise is the same with the 1860s chemise? Since I cannot find the information about that.

    • @Pour_La_Victoire
      @Pour_La_Victoire  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question. I used an 1860s chemise pattern (Simplicity 2890) but used a more square, rather than curved, yoke shape. Sometimes I even wear my 1800s square cut chemise with my 1840s dresses. The 1840s is a transitional time in styles between the 18th century style chemises made of squares and rectangles and the 1850s-60s chemises with curved, shaped side seams and yokes. The Workwoman's Guide is a sewing manual from the 1830s-40s and has great information on how to make chemises from this time; it's available online for free!
