The comment about the throw is spot on. What a lot of people fail to realize just because it looks awkward, doesn't mean it isn't repeatable. Darts is like 10 pin bowling in the throwing motion. Consistency and repeatability is key to shot making. The top pro's in bowling and darts have developed muscle memory unique to themselves.
I started learning things specially the tungsten % and the board spraying water. The best way is to learn from the expert, and legit reviewer like this channel. This are so HELPFUL and INFORMATIVE. DOUBLE THUMBS UP.
@@WorldwideDarts Yes sir I already watch your current video. Thank you very much for what you are doing. To those who really wanted and love the sports of dart. I hope I can do the same here in the Philippines to have a dart clinic to our youth someday.. A Big plan but I know time will come that is workable. Thanks again KEEP SAFE and HEALTHY.
Spot on with 4/5 and you know where I’m gonna go lol If you can grab a point on your last dart so that the opposing player if he throws a 9 mark can’t take the lead Or you have one dart in your hand and grabbing some points so that your opponent has to hit more bullseyes comes to mind Or how about a player who just struggles with 18 which can change your approach how you play that opponent So WW You should do a vid on beginners do’s and dont’s if you haven’t already. My 2 tips are always follow all the way through the dart and beat the board like a drum-seems to me that’s always the common thing world class players always do. Love your attitude and videos!
Okay, hear me out here... You suggested that someone throws for more points to increase their lead by 10 marks. Now think about that in the real world or a real match situation. You're suggesting that a player can add more points with a MASSIVE lead. Look at it this way... a really, really good player isn't going to average 3.3mph in steel tip. So we're talking about a 3 TURN lead if someone is up by 10 marks. If a player is winning by that much then it really doesn't matter what they throw at to be honest. And yes, anyone at any time can bang in a 9 mark but let's be honest, how often does that happen? Also, what you're suggesting is exactly what I said. You can either close numbers or choose to point more. You're also suggesting that we can accurately predict what a player is going to hit and adjust accordingly. Imo that sounds good for debate but it's practically impossible to predict what anyone is going to hit before they throw. I'm a decent player and I could totally miss or I could blast in a 9 mark on ANY given throw. To suggest someone can predict how someone is actually going to play is unrealistic. Cricket is a GREAT game for debate. There's a million 'what if's' and that why cricket makes for good discussion. But in a real match situation I would guess that 99% of all games work out like they should.
2:32 a mention to A180. Based in St. Helens UK where I'm from. I live a mile and half away from there. Fantastic shop, been using them for years. I've had some excellent set of darts from there and reasonable price too.
Never played cricket game always confused me . and you made me feel better with the lower percentage tungsten not being inferior and equal in quality i play with 85% cause im comfortable with a thicker barrel being always used to brass darts. Enjoyed vid thank you
Would you recommend having a humidifier in the room in winter where the dartboard is? Because of forced Air heating it dries out the board a bit. I also notice at the bar I play with the winter dry air and hot lights on them the board warps a fair bit
As a noobie, I’ve never heard of any of these myths, but good to know regardless. I still play with the cheap darts my board came with, as spending $200 on darts won’t make me a better player
Happy St. Paddy’s World Wide! The virus took away my ability to go get some beer... BUT I’m enjoying a glass of wine as I type. If I run out of that I’ll switch to the rubbing alcohol in my medicine cabinet. LOL I really enjoy your insights on darts! Cricket, 501, Bobs 27 Shanghai... I enjoy them all ! I hope I’m more hung over than you come tomorrow. That’ll mean I had a great night! Lol
Personally I like the way you throw your darts because they seem to release with quite a bit of speed and hit the board straight like an arrow. Being a bit of a novice my throw has some arc to it which I'm still trying to correct. I dunno if thats common for some people or if I just have lots to learn but I guess practice makes perfect 🤷🏻♂️.
I have exact the same issue, almsot all my darts go in to a left angle, I yet have to pinpint the exact problem in my release and tryign to fix it, which is pretty hard if there is no one around me to 'correct' me.
Great point on the throwing motion.. it is awesome to see top players when they are on.. they will the dart all over the board!! Taking out big checkouts, turn after turn.. and Chizzy changes his grip for certain situations.. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO LOOK PRETTY!! As for your throwing motion, it works for you! I’m sure I’m not the only subscriber that has tried it😁.. keep smashing them 9s..(damn standard flights.. keep going left!) yeah me too.. and for Niels with the husky/malamute.. get the darts you’re gonna love them.. it is never the darts fault.. but you do have to like what you throw.. go for it!!
My main darts are 80% tungsten and the cheapest in the Red Dragon catalogue. Unfortunately, now you've lured me into the Cosmo system, I've just bought some duralumin stems as three plastic shafts have broken in as many days. So, my stems cost three-times as much as my barrels!
@@WorldwideDarts I ummed and ahed, but decided on the duralumin because they didn't cost much more than the carbons, and I saw a few people saying they'd had a few carbons break. I had no plastic Cosmos break in three months, and then three broke in s couple of days, so perhaps they gradually weaken with time and after a few bounce-outs?
I used to use aluminium stems, but I was playing over a hard floor and dartboard had thick wires in those days, a lot got bent and I moved to nylon. Nylon has been out classed by polycarbonate, more choices in shape, style, colour etc.. but they are too brittle, I had cosmos but they break all the same, had brand new ones snap on me and they snapped just hitting the board, no dart contact or anything, not buying them again! I play over a carpet and rubber ochre strip now so I may try aluminium again.
i have a board in my bar, i have a blade 6, lot of concentration around the treble 20, which has in turn weakend that area, i been looking for other solutions, other than just spinning the board around and moving the numbers, is there any other solutions ? or is that the only solution to sort it out ?
Hey WW, thanks for the videos! You mentioned you suffered dartitis a few years back, any suggestions for practice, drills, mental tricks? Sometimes I just try too hard and get wayward marks. Thanks!
I used lighter darts and that seemed to help. I also played in a very dimly lit room. Just enough light to see what I was hitting. That seemed to take the pressure off and allow me to release the darts. I'll be making a video on the topic in the near future.
Cricket has strategy. It all depends on which version you play. I (in Belgium) learned to play the version with 20 to 12, double, triple and bull. For example if you throw triple 20, 20 and 20. What do you tick off? 1x triple and 2x 20's of 3x 20 + 40 points?
From ireland love the shirt🇮🇪 I have a question I got a target world champions dart board after 2 days it seems alright but the darts always hit it very very softly do you reckon it will last or is it just a rip off it cost around 30 euro
This is a great channel. You have a cool way of explaining things. I subbed. I'm a Brit living in Spain and the only game they play here in the leagues is cricket. (all soft tip boards in bars too, no real ones).... they'd swear it's like chess! Question about the water thing...what should I do if my board gets really dry because it's hot here? Nothing? just leave it? Cheers! By the way, I think there is a game called cricket in the UK, one darter is the "bowler" and the other the "batsman", the bowler throws at the bull to get "wickets" and the batsman throws at treble 20 to score "runs". At least that's what I played with my dad ha!
I've just been browsing through TH-cam and searched for champions choice dart boards and "Worldwide Darts" was the only channel that came up. So, I watched it and left a pretty lengthy comment for that video. At the end of my comment I mentioned what I do to every new board out of the box. And now after watching this video I have to address... Myth #5 - it should be common knowledge around the dart community what water does to any bristle dartboard, cheap or not. I'm from Hawaii born and raised here with beautiful sunny weather almost year round. In the Islands the majority of the house dartboards are outside in the garage where it's open and comfortable for any amount of people to relax, talk story or pair up and get a dart game going. I have been playing darts since the early 90's and from personal experience over 30yrs that I played I've NEVER intentionally sprayed water on or thought of doing it in the first place. But, I do spray my board with any "silicon" base lubricant. I started using WD-40 first which worked but dried out after a few weeks. Till I saw this can next to the WD-40 that caught my eye with Sealant, Protects, Lubrication and Silicon and read everything on that can and what it was use for. Bought it and never stopped using any other product on my boards ever since. Hint: WD-40 is Water Displacement #40. Hmmm...Silicon, seals what you sprayed from "water", lubricates surfaces or softens the surface with petroleum properties that won't dry out for a while but still remain in the board for excellent healing. The only Con is when removing the darts after spraying the board your tips/points will have residue of the product on it. So, avoid touching the tip until you can wipe it off before throwing it again. This is right after you'd sprayed but eventually it will dry or come unnoticeable when setting up your grip again. I hope this helps you with protecting your dartboards from the elements to soften it for better healing properties...Shoot'em Up!! "HI_TON808" 🤙😎🌴
I'm a beginning dart player, and I didn't want to buy too expensive darts. I choose Bull's Virus darts, 70% tungsten. Simple pencil barrel , rather grippy. Works fine for me a couple of months in. I strongly suspect that generally the type of dart you play with really doesn't matter thàt much, compared to throwing technique.
Just recently (few weeks ago) discovered your videos (watching from Denmark). Now I'm watching on a very regular basis. The thought that strikes me often is: how are you not a pro player? Have you perhaps been? Just ordered a repointer tool - thanks for that video as well.
@@TheOnlineBusker no steel point,...it’s not bad actually. There are some very good players here in Houston so the competition level can be challenging which keeps things interesting. Only down side for me is that I live in the SW outskirts of Houston and there are no bars this side of the city that have a team and play the leagues so I have had to drive closer to the city (Houston is VERY large and spread out).
Loved that video mate & what a great 170 out shot & thanks for those handy tips about the darts corner website i got myself a nice hand warmer free gift with my order of some new designa 32 gram solar ray darts ! I'll let you know how they throw 🎯
That’s great to hear Steven & I’m in the same boat as you as these darts are just what I was looking for a lovely 2 inch straight barrel with a nice grip I’m well pleased with them
Nice T shirt man!! Hey can I ask, if I am repointing Red Dragon darts, do I have to use red dragon points? There’s not much information or good quality videos relating to dart points on TH-cam with all the information someone new to repointing might need. Might be a good idea for a video!
American here. Absolutely agree with the cricket myth. No strategy whatsoever to play the game. In fact, I have only had one occasion where my opponent actually played scoring cricket. Every other time it's just whoever closes the scoring sections first wins. Absolutely boring game (imho). Especially when you get challenged by beginners.
I once read somewhere that the continuing practice among some to wet the board may hark back to the days when boards were made of (elm) wood and had to be kept wet when not in use to avoid cracking (indeed these are still in use in Manchester (UK)). But I find it hard to believe that a modern day recommendation could stem from that ancient and mostly-obsolete tradition. So where did the “spray the sisal board” myth really originate?
You are spot on saying how it originated by I have no idea why this myth carried on here in the states. The video clip was from a league director in Denver Colorado USA. Now to be fair, I lived in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado for several years and being in the high altitude everything dries out quickly as there's no moisture in the thin air. So in this rare instance the fella might be correct.
@@WorldwideDarts mhhhhh sisal is anorganic fibre which can soak up water. if a spot which is often used (20) is moistened even bulks can appear - as soaking up water thickens the diameter of the single fiber - i would not recomend...
@@johannesmartin4183 I wouldn't recommend either but let's be honest here, if this guy was wrecking boards all the time he probably wouldn't be spraying them with water. Proper testing would need to be done
Couldn't agree more , I have a better action than you but you throw miles better than me , I've used a few sets of darts but my match darts are a set from red dragon 80 percent tungsten cost £26 , to look after your board you rotate regular and try to use points that ain't aggressive if you can , great video as always keep up the good work
Cheers Lee. I think if players rotated their board a bit more often they would see the benefits from it. I see WAY too many players absolutely destroying a segment before they rotate it 😬
I was always wondering would spraying water on your dart board help it last longer, but from what I have seen in the comments it’s more about controlling the moisture in the air then spraying water. Otherwise other then moving the numbers every so often nothing else is going to prolong the life of the board. Would you agree to that?
Regarding the “perfect action = better darts” point, I would caveat it by saying that smoother action means more consistent high level darts. When Henderson is on he’s really on, but there’s often times when his rocking motion is off
Worldwide Darts I would be interested to hear your opinion on different flight shapes/styles, I’ve tinkered with my setup a few times trying to find the right one and I’ve struggled to stick to one
Hi from Ireland where it’s currently raining and freezing cold 🥶. I have cheap darts and expensive ones and I’m crap with both so myth 2 is correct for me. Love the videos btw and glad to be a new subscriber.
a bit curious about the spraying issue, will spraying water on the board harm it ? the way you say "do not" makes me think it will, if so what will happen.
When I was a kid starting out with darts, I had my dartboard outside and eventually it started swelling up in different places, the fibres started to mushroom out, I suppose the moisture present in the air was absorbed in parts of board with more wear. I would never put a board outside again or anywhere where humidity is high.
I'd love to see you review the winmau pulsar 23g straight barrel. I know they are a little heavier than you usually throw but I'd love to see what you think of them.
Thanks for the videos, Worldwide. These are fantastic. Btw, re your myth that 90% darts are "better" than 80%. Darts are generally tungsten/nickel alloy. 90% W/10% Ni has a density of 18.3 g/cm3, 80% W/20% Ni has a density of 17.2 g/cm3. That's only 6% difference, not much. If you made a 22g dart blank, just a cylinder of solid metal alloy, and each of them was 40 mm long, then the 90% alloy would have a diameter of 6.2 mm and the 80% alloy would have a diameter of 6.4mm. Somehow, I don't think that's going to screw up anyone's groups all that much. The real difference is that people think tungsten is exotic and they want to buy something closer to 100% tungsten. All that does is make the darts much tougher to machine and manufacture.
Spot on! And very true with your last sentence. Since the metal is stronger it makes it more difficult to machine and it eats through tooling much more quickly. That's why the higher tungsten content cost more. Not because it's "Better". Thank you for your very informative comment 👍
@@WorldwideDarts One other quick note. To get a kg of 99.9% tungsten bar from China today will cost you $33.70. You pay the shipping, that's FOB cost. To get a kg of really pure nickel metal from Norilsk, the cost is about $14.03 a kg. So 30 grams of 90% alloy costs only about $0.95 in raw material costs. 30 grams of 80% alloy is only about $0.89 in raw materials. Yes, someone has to make the alloy, cast it, rough it out, fine machine it, etc etc to make a dart. But starting with maybe $3 in raw materials for 3 darts, can anyone explain why a set of 90% darts should really cost you $100? Other than marketing and bling and irrationality, I can't. Now, that said I have a set of Monster Helios II barrels that I love, but I got them on sale. So I was only irrational, not completely nuts.
Thank you for good advices, and for honesty! I find yor throw a little bit unusual, but nevertheless your performance is awsome. The right argument to support the thesis!
im from the uk and we play cricket/tactics different we do 20-15 but with doubles trebles and bulls that becomes more tactical as you need to choose between the treble say or the score.
great words on throwing action.i watch your videos in awe of your ability.so really goes to show with darts you have to put the reps in and find your own style that works.ok i'm off to spray my board:)) maybe not
Thanks Andy. I really didn't want to include that one as I didn't think I could explain it properly. I never want to discredit a perfect throw like Hankey, Lowe, Barney, etc... as it will work best over an extended period of time.... but only in theory. I know we've all seen example of top professional players with less than ideal throws that play at a ridiculous standard and do so for years. At the end of the day the only thing that counts is what targets we're able to hit.
@@WorldwideDarts exactly.and that is what is great about darts.yes a fluid ,textbook throwing style is great to watch but as your video showed and both men from my homeland.jocky and big hendo.great players .and in jocky an absolute legend
Hey Worldwide, great video, one thing you can tell a novice cricket player(not a points game) to go for bulls first. He or she will have several marks from strays after closing the bulls.
That's very true. The bull could be added to when I said a weaker player should throw at the bottom of the board to get more slop. If they miss the bull they still might score. One of the things I dislike about cricket, you get rewarded for missing or playing poorly
also, how about the myth that Soft Tip darts is somehow inferior than Steel Tip. I play steel 98% of the time, but I love playing soft tip and think it just as valid a form of darts as steel tip. It may not have the international following that steel tip commands, but that could change.
I agree. Soft tip isn't inferior. It is different but it's still darts. And I like darts. So I enjoy playing soft tip even though steel is my favorite.
I was really expecting you to tell us about spring loaded darts in this video. Even tho they are a myth I would really want to try a set of spring loaded darts. Do you have any recommendation for me for a cheap set of spring loaded darts?
Well it just so happens my next video will be "Top 5 Biggest Gimmicks In Darts". I'm quite positive there will be mention of movable point darts. I reviewed a set from Darts clearance eBay UK. They were dirt cheap
@@WorldwideDarts I have seen the review but unfortunately I have never seen them in stock on the dartsclearance eBay site. Anyways, I am looking forward to the top 5 gimmicks video.
Point, Point, Close in Cricket until your up 100 then Close, Close, Close. If you’re behind it’s Point, Point, Point until you’re ahead again... then back to Point, Point, Close. Try it, bet you’ll win more games
Point, point close only sounds good when talking about cricket. If the opponent is blasting triples on me then there's absolutely nothing I can do. You either throw better than the opponent or you don't.
I haven't played much cricket, but one thing about it is that is competitive, in that everything you do affects your opponent and vice versa. In X01, you have an opponent, sort of. But your main competition is yourself. It's been a long time since I've played cricket, like lots and lots of years, and I threatened to look up the rules and practice at it a few days ago, but I still haven't done it lol.
@@WorldwideDarts its a technique from back when boards had a wooden backboard on them, dry wood cracks and is more prone to bounce. but ever since hair boards became a thing its no longer helpful and on fibre boards like the blade series its harmfull
Something my mother and father used to do when they owned a Pub in Frankfurt. Something I did up until i got my Blade 5 and saw in the booklet to not do it.
Could you rewiew the red dragon nucleus, i could only find them on amazon but i think they would suit your style. They are soft tip and wheigh 18 grams. I hope you can find them somewhere😀😎
All I do is rotate my board a lot. I rotate more than most anyone and I think my boards remain in better condition compared to most players. I've already rotated my brand new Blade 5 DC once after 3 days. My goal is to make sure all segments look alike. If one segment looks worse than another that's a great indication of NOT rotating enough.
spraying the dartboard with water was used in the old days when the dartboards were made from horsehair. today they are made from synthetic fiber so no use at all.
Great vid WWD, love these different types of videos! Loving the shirt, Happy St Patrick’s Day too from Ireland! We can’t celebrate it due to the bad corona virus breakout :(((
i have another strategy for cricket, works well for amateurs like me with avg about 50: starting with bull. if i have the 1st throw, i always start with bull, if the opponent starts, react to him. if he not open a field, then go for bull. for me it works very well, after the bull is open, so many pressure is gone. if i open the bull first, i win 90% if the games. of course its only works for beginners i think
How is that "strategy" though? You're choosing to throw at the smallest segments on the board to start the leg off. If I did I'd be luckily to hit a 3 mark or maybe a 4 mark at most. If I start on 20's hopefully I could hit a 5 mark or more. Either way, you're throwing at a target and hoping to hit it. That's just part of the game. I'm not seeing it as strategy at all. Seems to me that a newer player is really going to struggle doing this.
@@WorldwideDarts just because the pressure. if i hit the bull quickly, most pressure of me is gone to my opponent, i think thats all. how i said, it works very well for me. but most times, when i start with bull, the opponent do the same. i think thats also a point, why im lucky with that. i play cricket always against good friends
@@DL-zj4wd I'm decent at darts and I don't think I could average 3mpr on the bulls. So imagine what your typical league player might hit. 1 maybe 1.5 bulls on average? Cricket is all about how many marks per round you can hit. Any dart player is going to be able to hit the numbers at a much higher rate compared to the bulls. Your handicapping yourself by throwing at bulls first.
@@WorldwideDarts yea i know what you mean. how i said, i play cricket only against friends, where i knew how good they are and how they playing. they have no stratety (:D), only copying(?), what i do. maybe im slightly better at bull then my friends. but i fully understand what you mean. i just that my friends most of the time copy me, when i start at bull. i think, thats the reason why i never felt like handicapped. when i think about, nobody of us plays for making big points. if anyone has a bit more points then the other, he try to open up all fields. can this called be tactical? 😅 i love this game, but i can see, you are fully right. this game is simple af 😅
Didn't you win one recently? For a soft tip board it's amazing! I'd love to own one personally. Target was supposed to send me one but when they saw the shipping costs to the USA they took back the offer. I was disappointed to say the least 😂
Worldwide Darts yes I did, will hopefully get it shortly. Might do a review on it myself. Shame you never got one, would loved to see the video for that. Just wish I could get brands to send me stuff to review. Like doing the videos. I’m glad you got over the dartitest 👍🏻
To be honest, getting free stuff is overrated imo. I turn down about 95% of all offers sent my way. When companies send free stuff there's a certain pressure to say positive things I might not normally say all because I received free stuff. Almost like you HAVE to be nice to keep the freebies rolling in. I think that's what sets my channel apart from the others. A lot of the others seem more like a commercial and less of a true "review". I don't do that here.
Worldwide Darts its not about getting free stuff it’s getting to try new things. You can’t be positive about it all. Brands need to take both. Probably why I won’t get anything 🤣 anyway here’s hoping you get a Nexus at some point would live a game. Even though you are WAY more better than me 👍🏻
in sunny england we play a different game called cricket ... Your either bowling or batting if bowling you only go for the bull and outer bull. Outer is 1 wicket bull is 2 if your batting you need to hit a score over 40 to score then add you score until wickets run out you can set your own perimeters how many wickets or a higher score to score but you get the gist. Good game and everyone need some bull training from time to time
Good video 1)80% Tungsten will just a little girthier but wont affect the average player. Agreed! 2)Lol....Totally agree. Very silly to spend money on expensive darts. Get tungsten off amazon for $60 3)I somewhat agree. It is a bit of an uphill battle if your throw has some hitches. Causes more variance. But you are somewhat right. I have a short follow through but still win on my leagues. 63PPR 4)Agreed. But this took me some research on a computer. Take a point lead, then cover numbers....never chase. Better players want a long game, if your opponent is better than you, you want a short game. That simple. 5)WTF?!?!?!?!?!!? That would ruin a board. Lol.
$60 for darts is extremely expensive. GREAT darts cost around $20usd from UK dart shops. Have you seen my recent Designa Patriot X darts review? 90% tungsten dart for less than $20. Buying darts in the USA is a complete and total rip off. www.howtomasterdarts.com/2018/03/darts-retail-in-us-savvy-business-model.html?m=1
Great video. I agree that cricket lacks the strategic element. I’d also argue that 501 is not particularly strategic either. It requires arithmetic competence and/or memorization of outs. That’s not really strategy. The only strategy involved is when a player sets up for a convenient double rather than taking on a finish involving the bull, if the opposition is not on an out. Having said that, it is more enjoyable to watch.
Thanks for the comment. 100% agree. I think when a player learns to play either game then that's it, they know how to play or they don't. Here's an example using 501. let's say we're both sitting on 265. I go first and hit S20, S20, T20 to leave 165. Oops no out. Then you step up and hit the same exact shot but only on 19's by going S19, S19, T19. You've now left a checkout with 170. Just because you knew enough to go 19's I wouldn't call that "strategy". It's just something you knew enough to do that I didn't know. Bunch of memorization and knowing how to play instead of strategy imo.
@@WorldwideDarts I totally agree. Regardless of the amount strategy involved, 501 is so much more satisfying to watch. It also requires players to use more of the board than in cricket (more specifically doubles), which is why I’d consider it a more difficult game. I can’t imagine that if the pdc started playing cricket it would garner any significant interest.
@@johnt.6034 Right! And on top of that the cricket legs could last a couple minutes up to 10 minutes or more. There would just be now way no accurately work in commercial breaks or even the length of a match. I wouldn't mind watching a floor event if it was cricket though. It would be nice to switch things up once a year or so
For cricket, it matters whether you're aiming for trebles or not. You will miss more sectors aiming closer to the bull, but you might get more trebles and make a smashing lead.

There was a man once spraying water onto the dartboard at the country club right b4 the age of coronavirus (refer to the myth no 5). And now, he never been allowed to participate in any tournament at the club.
I'd argue there is one more slightly strategic element to cricket, at least for the players not playing top level, and it's the use of the bull. Games of lesser standard will often be decided on a lot of missed 25s or Double Bulls. So when you can afford it, I consider it smart to throw the odd third dart at the bull, one hit when you're not under pressure can save you the leg later. I have to admit though, the pros are so accurate they likely do not need more than a visit to the oche to close out the bull. So for them it doesn't really matter
How is throwing at the bullseye a "Strategy"? It's part of the game and you need to hit 21 marks on 7 different segments to win. That's nothing more than closing out a number.
@@WorldwideDarts I think I already told you? Because a tight game of cricket can come down to hitting the bull at the end. Then nerves can creep into it, and then the bull is not an easy target to hit. Trying to hit the smallest target in a not so crucial part of the match may give u a bigger chance of actually hitting it. And of course that is a strategy. Any consideration of what might give you the biggest chance of winning the game is a strategy, the fact that it's mostly psychological doesn't change that. By your way of arguing you could just as well say the speed of throwing can never be a strategy in X01, because all you need to do is hit the double before your opponent does. That is just plain ignorance
@@noeloumard9106 So hitting a target that needs to be hit to win the game is a "strategy". Just like hitting that winning double while playing 501 must be a good strategy too? Okay, if you want to call that a strategy then go ahead. 🤷♂️
@@WorldwideDarts ok look, with all respect, are you actually reading my comments? Of course you're gonna hit the bull at some point. I'm saying it might be easier to do it when you're not too nervous, because it's the hardest part in cricket to hit. Your answer completely misrepresents what I said, at no point did I state that hitting a double in 501 is a good strategy. I said that for example, you can use the speed you're throwing at as a strategic part of the game to underline that psychology can be a strategic element, in cricket just as well. So far you have said nothing to disprove any of that. Make your argument properly please, I don't need you to present me as an idiot just because you disagree with me
@@noeloumard9106 Hitting the bullseye at ANY point is the game, especially hitting it early is a nice bonus. But all you're doing is closing a segment. Remember in the video when I said "point or close"? You're doing the second thing I said there. Closing stuff. It's a great turn if you actually hit the target you're trying to hit but it's a really big stretch to call it a "strategy" or strategic. C'mon, isn't that how you're supposed to play the game of cricket anyway? Closing stuff
I’d say cricket provides more opportunities to effect what your opponent throws at, thus at least one strategic way to effect the game. But, still gotta out throw your opponent in player 1 vs player 2 sense.
What do you mean by "more opportunities"? Compared to what? How you play the game is pretty much set in stone though. If I go first and hit 4 20's you now have an opportunity to throw at 19's as you should. If you're up on points I now have the opportunity to throw at a new number and try to regain the point lead. Let's be honest here, it's one of the most simple dart games there is. Playing the game as a player should doesn't make the game more technical or strategic. A true strategy is doing something that will give you more chances to win the game. Other than the two things I talked about there really isn't much more you can. Just hope you play better than the other person.
Myth 3.. John Henderson might have a weird throw for some, I found it normal, have you seen Andy Hamilton? This is nothing compared to his action throw. But you do you I would say.
Cricket does not have many strategies, when you play singles if you are in front on points you close, if you are behind on points you get in front first before you close. That being said it has more strategy than 501 which is score as much as you can and leave a finish and try not to leave a 3 dart bogey number. Cricket doubles can have more strategy, especially if you play the rule that you can not begin to score on a number until both of the team have closed it first.
"That being said it has more strategy than 501" You cannot be serious here? I'm going to take a wild guess here and say "American". You're definitely American right? Let me elaborate on this a bit. Pretend 2 players are sitting with 107 remaining. Player 1 goes first and since they play cricket all the time they really don't have a good concept of how to play 501. So because of that they throw at the 20's missing wide left into the S5 leaving 102. Turn is over as you can't finish 102 with two darts. Player 2 steps up and throws at 19's first dart and throws the same exact miss to the left. The difference is that player 2 knew the "strategy" that gives them the best chances to still win a leg. With 100 remaining they throw T20, D20 for the win. Is that NOT a strategy? A strategy is doing something that will give a player an advantage. Because player 2 knew that missing to the left or right on the 19's will still give them an out is in fact a strategy. The same can be said for MANY shots. Example, throwing at 19's with 303 remaining. 7 19's leaves 170. That's an advantage over throwing at 20's leaving 163 with the same 7 mark. One more example. Two players are left with 181. Player one throws at 20's but is only able to hit 3 singles leaving 121. Player 2 steps up and throws S20, S20 and then with the last dart they throw at the bullseye but hit a 25 to leave 116. On the next turn player 2 can finish on a normal double while player 1 might only get a dart at the bullseye. See, 501 is WAY more complicated then most players realize. Something that so many Americans fail to take into consideration. It takes months and years to properly learn how to play 501. I can teach someone everything they need to know about cricket within a couple LEGS. Don't chase, pick a new number and point when down on points, if ahead on points pick a new number to close or point some more. That's it. There is absolutely nothing more to the game then that. Now to be totally fair an argue both sides of the coin I would agree with someone if they said BOTH games have almost zero strategy at all. You either know how to properly play the games or you don't. And if someone wants to claim that knowing how to play is in fact a strategy then I'm okay with that. Personally I think the examples I listed are nothing more than memorization but they do in fact give me a clear advantage over someone that's not aware at the proper segment to throw at.
@@WorldwideDarts Lol No I am English but living in Portugal, here we play a lot of Cricket on the Soft tip machines in the league always doubles and both team mates have to close to score on a number. 501 bith players can just score although there is an annoying Freeze rule that usually gets me lol.
IMHO the biggest problem with an 'improper' throw is that you have to repeat it to maintain a high degree of accuracy. The simpler the throw the easier it is to replicate. Makes kinda sense eh when you think about it.
LOL I'm glad you did this video man have a ton of 80% tungsten darts that I would play at any time any day the only difference is size hard to get people to believe that and strategically playing cricket don't even know where to go with that it's pretty simple you have one or two ways to go you do not have to be a calculated legal mine to figure that one out and spraying water on your dart board we shouldn't even be having that conversation thanks worldwide waving my hand from Florida so far coronavirus free😷
Cricket is played here in the uk. I love it. There is also another cricket game I play that is based on the rules of the actual game of cricket, 2 innings 10 wickets etc and is a fun 2 player game.
3 comments. 1) I have indeed payed 150 bucks for darts. Am currently playing my best darts with 14 dollar (usd) clearance darts from DC. 2) I don't bother with cricket anymore. After playing 501 exclusively for almost a year, you will have to be a cricket specialist to beat me. 3) perfect throw? Haha. That's a catch all. What's perfect for me is an extended arm and a smooth backstroke and a very fluid thrust with a full follow through. Dosen't happen as often as I like but some of the best in the world do indeed, have jerky, snatching throws. Point in hand, if it works, do it. (Dont be so closed minded that you think you can't improve.) This was a fun vid6 wwd. Refreshing.
In the same way that 80% tungsten is no worse than 90% tungsten, neither is brass. I played county A for a decade in the 1980s and 90s and I was always battling my darts. I used brass darts in 1980 when I first played league darts (Pompey Inter Firms) and they flew beautifully. I'm now using brass again and they are so much better balanced. And with the advent of longer points, slightly fatter barrells can be kept away from the board meaning grouping is easier.
You should interview Baggish or Lauby or Gates or any other soft tip player on cricket strategy. You shot on it constantly, but never have anyone discuss strategy with you. I play mostly soft, mostly cricket because that's where the money is around me. No one I know agrees with you including top level pros. Just a thought, it would make a great video.
You're a perfect example of someone that for some reason takes offense to this constantly. Nowhere in this video or elsewhere do I "shit" on the game. Over and over I tell everyone that I quite enjoy the game but it's played WAY too much in the USA. So please stop claiming that I'm always shitting on the game, that's not true at all. I give examples to back up anything I say. Then you ALWAYS come along to say that others don't agree with me to somehow discredit my facts. Popular names you mention don't change anything I said here.
More strategy in 501 than cricket. All the different checkouts and percentages. When and when not to go for a certian checkout. If you play 501 properly it's got much more strategy.
I used to play cricket all the time, I won almost every time. Strategy?... none! There is NO strategy!! There is simply knowing how to play the game and if the guy you're playing against is a more accurate darter than you , then you are gonna lose in the longer format...every time! I won those games because I was a better darter than my opponents, and that's it. If someone can hit more marks than you on any number they select , how can you beat them??
@@shanestevens622 Exactly! Honestly, how can most any of us expect to beat Danny Baggish as the person above mentioned? If the guy is averaging more than 4 marks every turn then there's no strategy in the world that will beat it except to throw better than him. Good darts win games.

😂 Doubles are tough to hit
The comment about the throw is spot on. What a lot of people fail to realize just because it looks awkward, doesn't mean it isn't repeatable. Darts is like 10 pin bowling in the throwing motion. Consistency and repeatability is key to shot making. The top pro's in bowling and darts have developed muscle memory unique to themselves.
I started learning things specially the tungsten % and the board spraying water. The best way is to learn from the expert, and legit reviewer like this channel. This are so HELPFUL and INFORMATIVE. DOUBLE THUMBS UP.
Thank you sir! Did you happen to see my new video? Make sure you get in the giveaway 👍🏻
Totally agree with all of them, especially the cricket. Being from the UK I've only ever used it as a quick warm up game.
Spot on with 4/5 and you know where I’m gonna go lol
If you can grab a point on your last dart so that the opposing player if he throws a 9 mark can’t take the lead
Or you have one dart in your hand and grabbing some points so that your opponent has to hit more bullseyes comes to mind
Or how about a player who just struggles with 18 which can change your approach how you play that opponent
So WW You should do a vid on beginners do’s and dont’s if you haven’t already.
Yep. Karl is an awesome guy. A180 was the first UK shop I ever ordered way back in the day 👍
I'm from the UK and only know very little about cricket, and the two strategies you talked is pretty much all that I know about the game.
You're already way ahead of the game then. Many players, especially Americans think that the more a dart cost the "better" it is.
It's so weird that since watching you, I've changed to short stems and tear drop flights. My throw feels so much better.
There's a few pro's that use them. Duzza and Beaton I believe? If it works it works. I happen to have a flight comparison video coming soon too 👍

Just found your channel. Loving it from 🇬🇧
Awesome! Thank you! 👍
I’m sure I’m not the only subscriber that has tried it😁.. keep smashing them 9s..(damn standard flights.. keep going left!) yeah me too.. and for Niels with the husky/malamute.. get the darts you’re gonna love them.. it is never the darts fault.. but you do have to like what you throw.. go for it!!
Thanks JT 👍
cricket doesnt have a lot of strategy to it. but i find it usefull to just learn to throw to other numbers (as a beginner)
My main darts are 80% tungsten and the cheapest in the Red Dragon catalogue. Unfortunately, now you've lured me into the Cosmo system, I've just bought some duralumin stems as three plastic shafts have broken in as many days. So, my stems cost three-times as much as my barrels!
I'm surprised you didn't try the carbon ones. I've never broken one of those.
I would take ping pong balls and throw them in a large cup. I found that they helped my get the feel of a smooth release back into my throwing motion.
Cricket has strategy. It all depends on which version you play. I (in Belgium) learned to play the version with 20 to 12, double, triple and bull. For example if you throw triple 20, 20 and 20. What do you tick off? 1x triple and 2x 20's of 3x 20 + 40 points?
Cricket played on a field with balls and bats has strategy but I'm not talking about that game either. I was only referring to the American version

Well thank you for the comment. I appreciate it 👍
I've just been browsing through TH-cam and searched for champions choice dart boards and "Worldwide Darts" was the only channel that came up.
Thanks for the comment. I hope you watched this new video with the Champions Choice board ... th-cam.com/video/NAB-A4qkFQE/w-d-xo.html

Number 4 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I am a Brit living in Texas and playing in the American leagues, cricket is a VERY simple practice game lol
Right! But if we tried telling that to some of the old timers they're going to have a meltdown. "it's so full of strategy it's like playing chess" 😂😂
Wow man what's that like? Is it a soft tip league?
@@TheOnlineBusker no steel point,...it’s not bad actually. There are some very good players here in Houston so the competition level can be challenging which keeps things interesting.
Yep, just rotate the board at a minimum of once a week and your board should last longer
Regarding the “perfect action = better darts” point, I would caveat it by saying that smoother action means more consistent high level darts. When Henderson is on he’s really on, but there’s often times when his rocking motion is off
I didn't even like #3. I couldn't think of anything else 😂
Thanks for the sub. Appreciate it! 👍🏻
a bit curious about the spraying issue, will spraying water on the board harm it ? the way you say "do not" makes me think it will, if so what will happen.
Yes, I should have gone into more detail but it can cause the board to expand and blow out the spider. This can happen in humid places as well.
The closer you get to 100% tungsten the more brittle your dart will be, if that lands on a hard floor....snap, and they'll be VERY expensive!!
Thank you for good advices, and for honesty! I find yor throw a little bit unusual, but nevertheless your performance is awsome. The right argument to support the thesis!

great words on throwing action.i watch your videos in awe of your ability.so really goes to show with darts you have to put the reps in and find your own style that works.ok i'm off to spray my board:)) maybe not
Thanks Andy.

I agree. I started playing soft tip in late 2001 and my best ever weekend was at a soft tip tourney. I cleaned up $$$ 👍
I agree. Soft tip isn't inferior. It is different but it's still darts. And I like darts. So I enjoy playing soft tip even though steel is my favorite.
Soft tip is for kids

Could I ask what your connections to Ireland are
Many years ago, well over a century, my great, great grandparents came from Ireland on a boat to the USA to start a new life here in the USA.
Worldwide Darts cool good that you remember your Irish roots some of my family have emigrated to the us as well
America is only 70 years old though.
You either throw better than the opponent or you don't.
you forgot the main strategy for cricket, hit loads of marks and hit more than your opponent.
That one works great 👍😂
Your cricket we call Micky mouse.
I have never heard of anyone spraying the dart board 😳
I'm finding out that it must be an American thing only 🤷♂️

its a technique from back when boards had a wooden backboard on them, dry wood cracks and is more prone to bounce.
but ever since hair boards became a thing its no longer helpful and on fibre boards like the blade series its harmfull
I had about 10 sets of them. They're actually Winmau Tornado darts that were renamed to be sold by RD on Amazon. Great darts though 👍
Omg thank you,i was gonna use a damp cloth on my dart board to make it heal
back in the early 80S I won a few tournaments with nickel/sliver darts. then I took that money to buy a better set of darts.
Love this video! I just want to ask how do you take care of your dartboard and how do you keep them in perfect condition?
All I do is rotate my board a lot. I rotate more than most anyone and I think my boards remain in better condition compared to most players. I've already rotated my brand new Blade 5 DC once after 3 days. My goal is to make sure all segments look alike. If one segment looks worse than another that's a great indication of NOT rotating enough.
@@WorldwideDarts thanks man!
What about pairs cricket? I think that one has a lot of strategy
The amount of players shouldn't change how the game is supposed to be played
Great video explaining the people new to the sport some common mistakes!
Thank you 👍
yea i tried your throw my darts traveled at least a inch from left to right i can't control the spin like u fairplay
So...do you think the right way to improve is simply to throw in the way we fill better and practise?
Depends on what you're practicing I suppose. Lot's of long format (best of 7's or 9's) is the way to go 👍
@@WorldwideDarts thank you 👍👍
spraying the dartboard with water was used in the old days when the dartboards were made from horsehair. today they are made from synthetic fiber so no use at all.
There's another myth dart boards were never made a horse hair.

So they are not using sisal anymore?
@@Thomas_Bergel They are still using sisal, at least for the "upper tier" boards.

And here we are 9 months on from your original comment and we are yet again in another lock down 😩
i have another strategy for cricket, works well for amateurs like me with avg about 50:
starting with bull. if i have the 1st throw, i always start with bull, if the opponent starts, react to him. if he not open a field, then go for bull.
for me it works very well, after the bull is open, so many pressure is gone. if i open the bull first, i win 90% if the games.
of course its only works for beginners i think
i love this game, but i can see, you are fully right. this game is simple af 😅
Great video, what’s your opinion about Target Nexus??
Good game and everyone need some bull training from time to time
It's also called the mickey mouse right?
Good video
1)80% Tungsten will just a little girthier but wont affect the average player. Agreed!
2)Lol....Totally agree. Very silly to spend money on expensive darts. Get tungsten off amazon for $60
3)I somewhat agree. It is a bit of an uphill battle if your throw has some hitches. Causes more variance. But you are somewhat right. I have a short follow through but still win on my leagues. 63PPR
4)Agreed.
It would be nice to switch things up once a year or so
Plus you wouldn’t get to hear the announcer belt out One Hundred EIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTY!
For cricket, it matters whether you're aiming for trebles or not. You will miss more sectors aiming closer to the bull, but you might get more trebles and make a smashing lead.
That makes no sense. I'm trying to hit trebles with every dart I throw 🤷♂️
@@WorldwideDarts yeah but I suck. If I'm aiming for the fat part of the 20 I would average 2 marks a visit. Going at the treble I might only get 1.
Like the man said, if you suck then go low

I Luv your vids!
Your dartboard looks great😍
Good Video👍
"Slop into the bottom of the board . . . " 😂
That'd be me.
I enjoy cricket just because it gets me throwing places I wouldn’t normally throw (17,16,15)
Cricket is fun. I'm American so it's mandatory 👍🏻
I’m American too. I had probably played hundreds of games of cricket before I even knew what 501 was 😂😂
I’d say cricket provides more opportunities to effect what your opponent throws at, thus at least one strategic way to effect the game.
Great tips

(Dont be so closed minded that you think you can't improve.)
This was a fun vid6 wwd. Refreshing.
Thanks Brandon! I could have done without reading the first part of your #1. But happy to read the 2nd part 😂👍
Lmao what is a cricket specialist and where can I find one??? That's funny.
We play cricket on the board here in the uk. We invented it!!
Great video. Love the shirt!

*shit on it lol my bad
