- In this series, @Waynehawaii501 will be providing darts tips and coaching, to help make you a better player on the oche.
If you can't aim then how are you supposed to get better at darts... right? In this video Wayne focuses on how to aim the dart and how this act can be different for all players.

This video has been a game changer for me. I really needed the explanation about your follow through path. I was too focused on my hand, dart, eye lineup. I was standing off to the right and still kept going left. Having watched this, I’ve actually moved over to the left of the oche and I’m throwing SO much straighter. Thanks Wayne!
Picked up darts last week and have been wondering this, what a well timed video
I feel like right- and left-eye dominance would be an interesting addition to this video!
I also asked this question on one of Wayne's other videos. I'm left eye dominant and the target can become blurred when aiming.
Same. Makes it so much harder but then I remember Taylor was left eye dominant.
They never talk about this. I'm right handed and left eye dominant. Completely different stances.
I'm left handed right eye dominant only found out about this 5 weeks ago ... hard trying to re adjust your throw after years of throwing from my left eye
@@johnnydonaghy6096 I feel your pain as someone who is the opposite of you once I realized I was extremely left eye dominant and being right handed I tried throwing from my left eye as it often lines up with the target, even tried to replicate the throw of phil taylor with lining it up with my dominant eye and pulling it across and it doesnt nothing I try seems to help as throwing the dart across my body just feel extremely unnatural and uncomfortable
Thank you Mab. Fantastic to watch and will stop focusing on the dart and concentrate on a straight follow through. Love the master classes. 👍🎯
Great video Wayne, I'd love to see a Masterclass on double hitting
I struggled a lot with the set up point, but in the end it all makes sense, if I don't follow through firmly to the target, I can aim and set up as hard as I can, it will be a mess. Thanks for the eye opener 🙏🙏
Nice video I’ve been adjusting and concentrating on the wrong area my first part of my throw is solid but kept trying to adjust it. After watching this I played my natural throw and concentrated on follow thru first 15 darts averaged 97 second 15 average 87 the video confirmed I was trying to fix an area that was not broken I tucked my elbow in slightly ensuring my arm was straight and ensured a straight follow thru so will now be practicing this as a pose to trying to change my natural throw. For me ensuring my elbow is aligned straight and not sticking out is an important part for that straight follow thru at least for me. Cheers 🍻 for the short simple but informative video 🎯
Great advice Wayne, you don't hear it being explained like that. It makes more sense now 👍🏼🎯
Thank you for the great advice. Very helpful
Good information, Mr Mardel question for you should, should I aim at the flight of the dart when I throw darts two&three to try and get a deflection.
Helpful video cheers wayne
Any help is appreciated, I would like to know if the throw is all automated or are the pros looking at the hand at any point?
The timing of the release and the follow through are imperative
More important than aiming
Your darts H5O
All our thoughts and prayers W .my kids love you on darts commentary❤
Fascinating as this is something I'm struggling with. The darts aren't going where I want & I think I'm not following through straight.
Agree with previous comment… I am right handed but left eye dominant. I struggle to hit the side of a barn, even if I am inside it. Any suggestions? (not the barn, the left eye dominance)
Great advice 😊
Would like to see the board as he throws, would help to see his advice paying off live😂
thank you Wayne 🎯
In the mentions it say Joe Cullen the American footballer, not Joe Cullan the darts player, but then it shows Joe Cullen's darts
I aim with the bottom of my thumb points it everywhere i want to throw at and it works had a 9 darter two years ago and missed d12 few months ago too i play for Cheshire a County darts team
I’ve hit several 180’d and average now at 55-60 without aiming at all. It’s muscle memory more than anything else. I’m left eye dominant and right handed. If you are just starting out and are the same as me check out how Phil Taylor managed to aim being cross dominant.
How do you know which eye dominate you are
@@ryanbyrne1497make a triangle with your two pointer fingers and thumbs and hold arms out straight in front of you. look at an object through the triangle and close one eye, then switch. Whichever eye keeps the object in the center when open is your dominant eye (it might shift a little out of center but one should be noticeably worse)
It’s actually difficult to explain how to aim a dart, I think you just have to find a technique and rhythm that suits you and repeat, like Wayne says it’s not really about lining up with your eye. Some do like Phil Taylor who it’s the goat but a lot of modern players that throw quickly it’s just rhythm
what can help cross eye dominance? I throw right but am left eye dominant. I struggle with going to the 1's so much.
Look online how people shooting guns aim lots more info about it or study how Phil Taylor managed
Just focus on number don't on throw. Im left eye dominant and right eye. Im try milion different throws and always the best is like other right handed. Close to my right eye focus on number and I'm practicing to my index finder finish on number which I'm aim
I lost my aim throw tense shoulder hurts
That was very confusing. Cheers mate
So the advice is" "Figure it out yourself"? Informative. Why wasn't I told?
I love how you can’t see the board
I wonder if anyone else sees double when they're looking at the dart in front of them? Is it just my eyes? If I bring up the dart to about 8 inches away from my eye (which is my set point), I see double darts. The right hand dart is solid, the left hand dart (about 1 inch away from the right hand dart is sort of see through. If I aim using the see through one, I usually hit what I'm aiming at (or within acceptable distance as I'm new to darts). It works for me, but I wonder if it's strange?
I've been playing 9 months. I also wondered about this. I asked my girlfriend what she's sees too, and she said similar to both you and me. She's no pro though obviously lol. I'm left handed and left dominant. I do know this with certainty. I've done tests. When I set the dart I see the board in focus completely, a solid opaque hand on the left, to the left of the target and slightly under, and I transparent ghost like hand over lapping with the solid hand but more to the right. I line up with the transparent hand. Lining up the tip on the index finger with the target. If when in the set position, I close my eyes one at a time. Closing right eye, the ghost hand becomes solid, and obviously the only one I see now, but crucially, is in line with the target. If I my left eye the my hand moves to the left a lot and it looks as though I'm lining up with the 12 segments. I know this doesn't really answer if it's right or not, but I feel this is probably how most people's eyes work. I do not wear glasses FYI.
Just to add some friendly advice also. I find pointing the tip of your elbow down the line you're aiming, and turn the wrist and forearm all the way out, to be a good way of aiming.
@@Lukeprovan it certainly sounds like what I experience but a mirror image of yours. I didn't think to close each eye to test things. I'm right handed and now I know I'm right eye dominant. When I close my left eye, the ghost hand becomes solid. Cheers mate!

I aim with my arm stretched my elbow high something i learned a long time ago with shooting a bow , and i can't get it out my system , to be honnest it feels comfortable and for a beginner darter i throw okay . Shall i keep doing it , or do i have to change it to evolve in darts ? Thank you
