The finishing is impressive. It's the checkout of a winner. You look good enough to get into a very good team. What we don't see here of course is how you handle a tense game, playing against someone full of old tricks or even new ones,, or the tense atmosphere situations. After a bit of experimenting with dart weight and styles I made my first break through. So I ditched the 1st ever set of darts I bought Steve Beaton 24g and went to 27g harrow bombers. Me being right handed and right eye dominant I twicked Taylors trowing style to come down from above my right eye then release in a straight line instead of coming across from the left. After a couple of months I wanted to improve more as I was failing to hit the low doubles to often. I have a question about your finishing practice game. When you have 2 darts left on lets say 64.. do you go for 14 bull? Or do you go for the regular finish like treble 16 double 8?
@@lennartleopold8892 dunno. I was gripping the dart too tight and having to actively let go which was very inconsistent. I'm now sort of resting it on my fingers and it kind of falls out upwards when I throw. Don't know how to describe it. Anyway the dart comes out from the same vertical point and is more consistent vertically on the board. I still throw my 26s sometimes but I'm getting more trebles. I had two 60s and a bounce out the wire yesterday!
Any advice you can give for doubles is appreciated! I'm starting to focus on those, as well as just throwing straight more consistently. Only been playing for 3 months so still very much a beginner, but it's coming along!
The best practise i found for doubles is playing round the board on doubles....1-20 then outer bull then bull.....then repeat the game 2 or 3 times before playing 30 legs of 501. Also dont just leave the same double you like in games....leave as many different ones as possible that way you open up new possibilities when it comes to leaving outshots at the end of a match. What most people fail to do is move their feet...if you want a double on the left of the board, move accross....dont just stand where you normally stand....if you keep your shoulder in line with the target you dont need to twist your body....then all you need to do is make sure your arm follows a straight trajectory.

I love your concept of tracking progress on a graph. How do you calculate a terrible game into your averages? I’ll be averaging about 30 darts a leg and then have a game where I can’t buy a double until after over 50 darts and my averages are destroyed. I don’t have a computer-opponent on an app to play against and if I had real opponent, he would have finished the game well ahead of my misery. Would you suggest that I cap my number of darts for a terrible leg? Perhaps a limit of 40 or so for a player of my level to get a more realistic score or just deal with an average that has been nuked? Any comments would be appreciated. Keep the videos coming! They’re helpful. Good luck in your year-long experiment.
I would suggest playing against the computer. This will solve the average problem and give you a more realistic match situation because of the added pressure
Sounds incredible that the improvement was more than even 20 points. Well done. Today I am around 42.5 , I’ll practice 2.5 hours for 30 days and see the result.
If you search on TH-cam ‘the darts referee practice’ you’ll find 2 videos of mine where I go over my doubles practice routines. When I was good, my finishing was so good, it’s all I used to do was practice finishing
It was 100% after 3 legs! I muttered something to myself after the 3rd leg, something like 'I'm not missing doubles today!' then miss 3 or something final leg haha
@@TheDartsReferee but its just 4 legs... i play 10 legs, no1 level 1. i can bang a double in 1 or 2 darts for maybe 8 or 9 legs then there always be 1 leg where i end up on double 1 turning a 25 dart leg into a 50, lol
I used to lick my fingers on my darts throwing hand years ago and would quite often feel a bit sick in the stomach next day after comp night. Then one comp night I went to the toilet just before my singles match and the guy I was about to play had a pee and zipped up and walked straight out without washing his hands. I washed mine but then had to go out and shake his hand at the start and end of the match, it took me some time to get out of the habit of licking my fingers for a better tackier grip when I threw but when I did I no longer felt sick after comp night and some times touch knuckles with opponents who I have witnessed being grubbs.
@@peterbulloch4328 I followed him in the other week to get him to wank me off. His grip was all wrong, and at first he was releasing too early, I also showed him where the bull was, and he seemed happier.
Do you have any videos breaking down your throw? My problem is I can’t throw conventionally. My eyes won’t adjust looking down the barrel. As such im a side face thrower, like yourself. I’m having trouble sorting out consistency. I know part of it is mental, but part of it has to be mechanical and it’s driving me nuts. Your throw looks similar to mine where you push through the dart and your shoulder moves into the throw which conventional dart throwers say is wrong. Most videos highlight that there should be next to no movement behind the elbow, but your throw appears to have quite a bit of fluidity from elbow to shoulder. Trying to find a way to improve my mid-game scores and accuracy. I’m pretty good at lasering down at doubles, but I’m absolute shit at scoring, at least in competition. Hit 7x 180’s this year in practice including 2x back to back, but have still never managed more than 140 in match play.
How was your arm feeling aftervthat first practice session? Im just now getting into darts and to throw darts for 2-3 hours my arm would be hurting probably lol
How much does cost good darts to start a serious route to improve? And the target? Thanks a lot, i play from 6 months but with simple darts (about 15 euros 3 darts) and I average 45 (I am 17)
The price doesn't matter. The best darts I own are 20 euros and some of the worst have been expensive. Look for a dart that has 90 per tungsten or higher with a shape, weight and grip that suits you
@@anthonym3351 thanks, and is the target important to prevent the darts to be broken? Can I play with always the same darts? Do I need to change them after a period?
@@marcofucci9071 Yes I've had many sets of darts for many years and I know someone who has the same set for 30 years. By target I think you mean the tip of the dart or the point - these are easily replaced and very cheap too.
@@anthonym3351 For target I mean the dartboard, the target that you have to hit with the darts...I have now darts t100 and a dartboard of about 15 euros, and after 6 months it is nearly destroyed. I think it depends on the quality of the dartboard, but also on the quality of darts maybe? I see that professional dartboards are always fine, also if you try and try with them. What do you think? Any advice? Thanks a lot
@@marcofucci9071 Yes a good dartboard will help with that, the darts should stick into any board. Of course on t.v they use new dartboard for every game so that's why they look so good. A good quality dartboard should last at least 1 year and I now have a target pro tour dartboard for 10 months and it still looks new and cost about €35.
When you say "practice", were you just playing straight 501? Did you spend X minutes per day focusing only on doubles or only on triples? I'm curious what your practice sessions looked like.
@@TheDartsReferee have you tried slightly heavier darts....the way you push your shoulder says to me you are playing with darts maybe 2 grams too light. Try 24g ...you then let the weight of the dart do the work without the extra shoulder motion.
with this lockdown stuff i've been trying something similar since schools closed, been at it for 5 days or so for about 3 or 4 hours a day. Averages have already gone from low 60's to high 60's and feel my throw is much better now. Aiming for consistent 70+ average wise by the end of April
I practice about an hour a day around 6 days a week with what's going on with lock down in devoting a lot more time to it, it's there any good videos about working out your set up? I'm experimenting with different set up and counting how many 20s I hit in 20 minutes and going with the most 20s
Do you have any recommendations for arm/wrist soreness? I feel like when I play or practice hard for a few days, my arm gets tight. It's not painful and I can certainly play through it. But I feel that's not the ideal way to improve muscle memory. Do you feel it's better to take breaks and practice when rested? Or just grunt through it?
How often do you practice? I get it if I don't practice for a few weeks then play, if I play every day or every other day, my arm never hurts after the first week or so
I currently do about (2) 30 minute sessions per day. That seems to be ideal for me to stay loose and keep fresh. However, if I throw for 4-6 hours/day or have a long tournament weekend, I definitely feel tired and it affects my throw for a several days. Your heavy practice experiment caught my attention on this. It's safe to say that quality in practice should be just as important as quantity. And I feel that our goal should be fine detailed muscle memory. And not sure how well that works when muscles are overused from just brute hours of throwing. Maybe there is a point where we build enough strength to get passed that initial soreness hump so we can have longer more effective practices? Great channel and videos by the way! You're growing some great content and quality is great. Keep it up!
All I do is throw for 180s for about 30 minutes to an hour and then I play checkout games, th-cam.com/video/WPxYfaAsyAU/w-d-xo.html this video shows the games I play and how to play them
I used to put in 3hrs per day for 7 days a week on my home dartboard. After 3 months of this I became a decent player but it was my nerves in big games that screwed me over!
I’m new to darts and just average 49 over 6 legs. Realistically I can give 10 hours a week to practice. Do you think an average of 70+ can be achieved?
Hey so I practiced for 30 days my average has went from 65.76 to 78.52 my finishing has improved so much and regularly hitting 180s not loads but a lot more regularly thanks for the inspiration and great vids to help my throwing
Hi mate, so the averages are calculated mostly per 3 darts thrown, so if you throw 501 in 15 darts, your average will be 501 divided by 15 times 3 giving you a 3 dart average of 100.2
Wow that would be a good average. I played 301 with your average calculations ( 301 60 darts = 15.05 but I just picked up the game. Thanks for the info cheers
Would you be able to make a practice playlist of all your practice videos. I’m at the same point you are at. I’ve plateaued at 45 average. I really want to move up from there. 👍
Did you take a fall at 5:15? Good video tho mate I’m trying too improve at the moment - I have a new throwing technique that works well for me recently but everytime I go to throw I forget to use it and do the one I have done since I was younger, really frustrating.
That's really good. I've been playing for about a month now and average only about 40. I'm getting annoyed because I want to start getting better, but I'm still struggling a bit with line, so have to work on that and adjust my technique I think.
I started playing when worked offshore on the rigs. Every evening we got together 3/4 hrs a night and done that for a couple of months wasn't straight of course. I never knew a single check out at all but it starts to sink in and you do get to a stage after a couple of months if your less than 80 or a 100 each time its a poor visit.......Like a lot of things work and family come into play so the darts took a back seat..Will get back into I think, so you have given me some inspiration there and some good darts being played. Keep up the good work but just a small thing, would rather hear the darts going in than that music.
Nice video & good results. I play on average 30mins to a hour a day. I need some advice on finishing techniques if poss? For example the 81 route would be T19 D12. If miss T19 and hit S19 then T12 D13 Miss Treb 12 and hit S12 then bull:) My maths is my nightmare! but if I can remember the routes my game would be much better. I hit x5 180's in under 10 mins today & hit x7 140's in a row 2 days ago so my scoring is improving but my finish's is the problem:( & when I use my scoring app It starts off at 0!! average and I have to raise it up as I play? Unsure how yours went from 100% down.
I have actually just started doing this as well because of quarantine, haven’t played darts in like 10 years so started from scratch I’m currently on day 5 of about 2-3 hours a day and finally found a throw that I like, 140 count is at 2, still hunting for the elusive 180 though
I pick up darts most nights for an hour. My average is around 70 at best at the moment. Would love to get to 90, but that would probs take 2 hours a night practice. Agree being able to finish is king! Best so far is 18 dart leg. For around the 70 mark.
@The Darts Referee: I may not have seen it in your other videos yet, as this is my first one. I have an apartment and need a good back drop for my board. I currently have it on a dart stand, and after 6 darts thrown I have 3 holes. Keep in mind that just like you, I haven't picked up a dart in over a year.
Can you tell a training routine for everyday training. Or point to point how you trained for those 30 days that increased your average. Thank you and well done!
Very good effort. I generally average around 70. Averaged 80 the other day in best of 10 and it felt awesome. People that dont play darts dont understand how hard it is to average over 90. So frickin hard
15 - 20 hours a day?? surely you mean a week. If not how did you find the time to eat and sleep. Great video tho and nice darts thrown. I am 54, i was in a team 20 years ago but have not played since. I have recently just picked up some arrows to get back in to darting. I spent 3 hours practicing before i took on 10 legs..... i managed an average 47.87(my arm is killing me lol) also i wish i had some automatic scoring, i have to enter data in to my own spread sheet after each throw, that takes time and breaks my rhythm. After day 1 i am more than happy with 47.87, lets see what tomorrow brings. Thank you for your videos and the motivation they give.

Thanks mate! I'll keep pumping them out
Great video, my issues with consistency I average 80ish some legs and in the 45s when things are going wrong, any tips?
Keep practicing mate, it's just a consistency thing that will come with time
You had 66.67% of checkouts! Awesome!
It was 100% after 3 legs! I muttered something to myself after the 3rd leg, something like 'I'm not missing doubles today!' then miss 3 or something final leg haha
@@TheDartsReferee Heh, D4 insted of Tops? Still quite an achievment tho!
@@TheDartsReferee but its just 4 legs... i play 10 legs, no1 level 1. i can bang a double in 1 or 2 darts for maybe 8 or 9 legs then there always be 1 leg where i end up on double 1 turning a 25 dart leg into a 50, lol
What is your board setup/scoring mechanism?
What do you use to track your score? I see a small camera below the dart board, what is it?
What program and camera you did use for split video?? Thanks.
What mat do you use please.
Practiced between 15-20 hours per day? That’s not healthy mate 😂

I have a wank in the pub loo before my comp games. It's the champagne of victory.

Where can you get the dart case you put on dart referee it’s a cool case would love to get one the same for my self
Oct 27th I was a 28 average, today I threw a 76 against my brother, but happily sitting around 55-60 after your practice vids.

Is there a link to the Computer Practice Levels you played against? Please @The Darts Referee
nice shooting, you should be rotating your board to keep the 20 area from getting ruined
My arm tightens and gets sore after a few throws how do you stop that from happening
When you say "practice", were you just playing straight 501? Did you spend X minutes per day focusing only on doubles or only on triples? I'm curious what your practice sessions looked like.
What did you do to practice?
Are you using a dart calculator on your pc ? If so what is it ?

@@TheDartsReferee have you tried slightly heavier darts....the way you push your shoulder says to me you are playing with darts maybe 2 grams too light. Try 24g ...you then let the weight of the dart do the work without the extra shoulder motion.
with this lockdown stuff i've been trying something similar since schools closed, been at it for 5 days or so for about 3 or 4 hours a day. Averages have already gone from low 60's to high 60's and feel my throw is much better now. Aiming for consistent 70+ average wise by the end of April
Try my practice routines video, th-cam.com/video/WPxYfaAsyAU/w-d-xo.html
What kind of dart board setup do you have? I like that lighted case/frame it sits in. Would be curious to know where to buy one. Great video!
It's a surround light. Clips onto board with magnets
I practice about an hour a day around 6 days a week with what's going on with lock down in devoting a lot more time to it, it's there any good videos about working out your set up? I'm experimenting with different set up and counting how many 20s I hit in 20 minutes and going with the most 20s
How good were you at the start, ie did you play for a team etc
Keep it up!
I’ve turned my dartboard around loads now and it’s a bit wrecked. Should I get a new one and if so, what board should I get?
Blade 5, best board out there

Great video. Is your dart board connected up to a computer or something ?
My Problem rn is that my throw technique includes touching my face sligthly with the dart. Can this be a problem in the future?
Darren Webster does it, whatever your throwing routine is, that's your routine, if you need to change it to improve then do, if not, don't 👍
Do you have any tips on training consistency? I think I can play good darts for 2, maybe 3 legs, and then it just doesn’t go for me anymore

New to darts here how do you calculate your average. Is it per game ?
Hi mate, so the averages are calculated mostly per 3 darts thrown, so if you throw 501 in 15 darts, your average will be 501 divided by 15 times 3 giving you a 3 dart average of 100.2
Wow that would be a good average. I played 301 with your average calculations ( 301 60 darts = 15.05 but I just picked up the game. Thanks for the info cheers

How’s your Journey going I’ve been learning practicing getting better day by day
That's really good. I've been playing for about a month now and average only about 40. I'm getting annoyed because I want to start getting better, but I'm still struggling a bit with line, so have to work on that and adjust my technique I think.
It's just practice and consistency, keep going mate, you'll get there 👍
Hey
What darts do you have?
was you for arrows ?????
I started playing when worked offshore on the rigs. Every evening we got together 3/4 hrs a night and done that for a couple of months wasn't straight of course. I never knew a single check out at all but it starts to sink in and you do get to a stage after a couple of months if your less than 80 or a 100 each time its a poor visit.......Like a lot of things work and family come into play so the darts took a back seat..Will get back into I think, so you have given me some inspiration there and some good darts being played. Keep up the good work but just a small thing, would rather hear the darts going in than that music.
Just curious. What was your avg 2 years ago when you were playing regularly?
Probably the same as it is now

Great Video. What app do you use to edit software? Thanks for the advice
You'll get it, don't panic when you're on it, once you've hit 1, you'll hit lots more quickly
