I don't watch your videos for "gear review". I watch your videos for the way you work on the street. The ways you find your "shot". The ways you approach interacting with people. But mostly just for seeing your images. You have "the eye", and I learn from you how I myself can develop "the eye" for street photography.

I agree with this. I just bought my camera a year ago and I'm planning to get at least two or three years out of learning photography on it before I even think about upgrading, so many gear reviews just aren't for me and I skip a lot of them. The technique or "artistic approach" videos? I watch the hell out of those!

Hi, from France. I love your channel and feel sad when i don't see new videos. I am checking everyday. To tell you the truth i love the in field photography video you make but be cause I am mostly launching them and listen to them while driving i don't really see what you do and just listened to it. So i sometime skip them. I came by your channel brcause i was looking for reviews of sony cameras and lenses among others and found it very interesting to see them used in real life. I hope i could see more videos on editing. And in depth talkings about lighting. How you deal with them.

I came to your channel watching those street photography videos that you did in Chicago and New York. That's what captured my attention and made me fall in love with street photography as a whole. Without you i don't think i would shoot street photography today, because you showed us how easy and how enjoyable it actually is. There isn't anything wrong with your content, i just think you should focus more on what you want to make and people will find your content enjoyable, as opposed to chasing an algorithm. Enjoy yourself when making content and keep on inspiring people!

I think you are completely wrong. Pierre has 800k subscribers and only 8k views on his video of four days ago. So AT BEST only 1% of his subscribers watched this video.
You have to do both: "chase the algorithm" so that your videos get displayed for a lot of people in the first place AND create good content, so that people stay, watch and come back.

    • @chriscrowhurst

@@gegenlaktose completely wrong huh. Quality will be the only attribute that ages well. Click bait headlines and gear reviews do not hold up over time. Quality is the only thing that matters, just combine it with patience. If you want instant high views invest in click bait headlines and thumbnails, but no one will bother to come back for more. I come back for quality content.

You are correct, as was recently discussed by another YT photographer who is thriving. Chasing views with ish that is trendy/clickbait-y/untrue to oneself, for views, is going to kill the algorithm for said creators, because it is driven by views (including the length of each view). I’m guilty of watching a few clickbait/trendy videos, but I lose interest…and YT’s algorithm penalizes these videos & the subsequent videos that follow. It’s actually not that deep.

    • @bogieman8

@@gegenlaktose I would check if my channel had 800k subs and only 1% views, where did I get the subs from in the first place. I have seen client's account with high subs, but mostly bots.

    • @gegenlaktose

@@chriscrowhurst Like I said, giving people the chance to see your video in the first place is something you have to work on as a separate task. For example, you can use "good clickbait". Titles and Thumbnails that intrigue people, without being misleading or tricking them (Pierre is already trying to do this). And ADDITIONALLY you need good content. (There is a Veritasium-video about clickbait/"legitbait", look it up. Mr Beast is interviewed in this video and he agrees. Maybe you believe the most successful creator on this platform more than me..)
I don't think Pierre's conent is not good enough anymore (that's what you are implying by the way), I think other content creators are better in making there content visible to everyone.

I personally LOVE the 2hr street photography stuff you put out. I throw it on during work in the background and just chill, see nice pics, get inspiration, etc. I don't care for the trend chasing videos personally. Walking around, giving small tips and tricks is a perfect format for me, even as an experienced photographer myself. Seeing the creative process of others helps mold my own. Be yourself, that is what the trend chasers miss... the genuine-ness.

Pierre, this is David Schloss, I worked with you when I was doing PR work with Sony. The reason your channel is great is because of your personality and the quality of your content.
There is more and more competition in the TH-cam space for gear, that's totally true. It's hard to get noticed. And gear is just better than it's ever been, with fewer things to say about it. "Oh it's another great lens from Sony/Nikon/Canon/Tamron/Sigma." It's hard to do footage that has a different take.
But it's very hard for another channel to do what you do, personable and enjoyable first-person looks at your life and photography.
It's what Matti was famous for, not the gear but his life and his personality. The gear was secondary.
I'd personally love to see you pivot away from gear and more into the creativity that everyone here follows you for.
The YT algorithm is weird now, especially since YT wants people to pay to promote their videos. But you have no competition in the "Pierre T. Lambert" market and that's what I think you should focus on.

    Hey Pierre!
I took the time to watch and listen to the whole video because you've really helped me over the last few years and I've come to appreciate you as a person.
I've started watching your videos about 2 or 3 years ago when I started taking photography seriously and that's how I discovered your channel! I was interested in your tutorials and gear reviews, but now that I am way more confident in my photography and have a camera that I'm completely satisfied with I realize that I almost never watch your videos anymore...
But don't take this personally as I watch way less TH-cam videos than I used to.
However what I really like to watch these days is videos with storytelling which still bring value (like the ones of Niklas Christl), videos about the business side of photography or videos with other creators that I like (for example you made videos with Chelsea Yamase in the past, it is really refreshing to see other creators through another lens than their own)!
I feel like it would be a shame to stop TH-cam now, especially if you love doing videos! As you said you might just be lacking some input of what your subscribers really want!
This is my own perception of course, but I hope that can give you some ideas and motivation to continue on this beautiful journey!
    See you soon! 👋

I'm just a french newbie and I discovered your channel recently while trying to find some tutos.
What I love with your videos are the pov ones because I can see you doing your composition, see your chain of thought to create an interesting image and I find it really really impressive and educational for me.
About the gear, I dont really think that is a big part, I mostly watch your tuto for beginners (exposition triangle, mistake to avoid, ... Etc ) and i found those videos very easy to understand.
Also the fact that you teach and sometimes in your videos, where you travel with some people that you teach, for me, it helps me identify to that "student" and I find you advise always pertinent.
I wish you to continue your video and your TH-cam journey as long as you love creating photos.

Social media is such a fragile platform to rely on for income. Peoples attention spans are so short and there are so many creators producing similar content that it's so difficult to stand out. As you know one video can be a hit and the next could bomb.
I think gear based videos are not that interesting, as reviewing expensive gear people can't afford is a bit of a turn off for a channel. Advice for beginners is usually where it's at, but again once it's been covered then creating more content around it is tough.
I personally think meeting up with beginners in small groups (for a small fee) and spending the day going around teaching them photography techniques, settings, etc first hand with some POV footage would make for an interesting watch.
Much love and hopefully you get your mojo back :)

Dear Pierre, my apologies, I have to admit, I have been neglecting your channel a bit lately. Thinking of why, it must have been video overload. To many interesting videos on too many channels and too little time. And your channel was not an exception. I admire your energy. I love watching you running through a city armed with a camera and taking awesome pictures. It is quite inspiring. I am really sorry you feel that depressed, please take care of yourself. Since you are hardly alone in this struggle, }it happened to a number of TH-camrs lately) it makes me wonder what is wrong with TH-cam... The answer is probably simple - greedy Alphabet. This will hardly be an original suggestion, but how about getting a bunch of fellow photographers together and make an independent online video platform focused just on photography (like CuriosityStream, or FloatPlane)? It could attract sponsors, you could do online courses, the (boring ;-) ) tech reviews, etc. Take care, stay strong, be safe and persist. I am looking forward to your future videos.

Interesting idea, creating a new video platform. Aside from the obvious IT and scaling hurdles that would need to be overcome with that kind of startup without significant financial backing, I fear it would be only a matter of time before such a platform turns into another TH-cam (or Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.). Eyeballs and money talks.
If such a new platform was to survive, it would almost have to function like a non-profit with a strong corporate/social mandate to that narrows down how it curates content, the form of content it offers, and how it generates revenue.

First of all, thank you very much for opening up for us, Pierre. It really means a lot to know how much you care for us. I have started watching your content about a 2-3 years ago with the POV street photography videos you were posting by the time. I was very early on my photography journey, so watching your process on the streets was really helpful back then. And I was one of these weirdos you met literally nowhere, which is insane :P, and although I cannot help you decide what to do next, I can share how I feel about TH-cam. When I was just getting started, tips&tricks, POVs, "do this to get better fast", and these kinds of stuff were really helpful somehow. But as we start to get deeper, there's not a lot to unpack from these kinds of videos anymore, and they just started to feel boring for me. I have been craving deeper stuff, to help me unpack my feelings for photography and figure out what, where, and how I want to make my photographs, and this is something it's really hard to find on TH-cam, probably because this kind of content is not algorithm friendly, and this caused me to get a little bit away from TH-cam. I really enjoy the Patreon idea, I think it's about time for us to see better alternatives to TH-cam. Internet went from really isolated websites, to social media monopolies, and now I see some spread back to smaller online communities (Discord, for example), which sounds like some fresh air flowing around again. Well, I hope you can find the path you are looking for. You rock, I'm proud of you, and I can't wait to see what's the next direction of your journey.

Hey Pierre! Just want to let you know what got me into your channel some time ago were the long 1+ hour long videos of you just shooting in the streets of Chicago. I'm from Chicago and I love my city and it was cool to kind of experience first hand in a way what the city is like on a daily/regular basis and all of the people through your interactions with them. Loved the NYC videos too. I probably stopped watching because I got into videos such as music/music festivals and that kind of photography and art. But I saw this video today and clicked on it and reminded me of what I used to enjoy from you and your channel. So I'll definitely be watching if you continue making videos. I stumbled across your channel in late 2021 when I purchased my own first camera and watched almost every video back then. I thought "how is it possible that he's nailing each shot?". I liked your small appartment, your style of videos, the transitions, the stories and of course the photos. But then suddenly something changed. I don't know if it was me that I couldn't spend so much time on TH-cam but there were many more videos from other creators that appeared on my radar. And then there were video on your channel that felt like they have been rushed. Something was off. I'm still watching your videos whenever I've got some time and the topic seems interesting. But I guess I won't pay for content in general - it has nothing to do with you as a person but there are too many other creators that I love to watch too and I don't have the money to support them all, so I guess I'm not supporting anyone with nothing other than my view. It's some kind of egostic, I know, but that's the world we live in. Despite that, keep up the great work (if you feel like creating it) and maybe take a second more time before pressing the shutter. I really wish you the best.

I cannot really recall when I found your channel, but it was a good while ago. I started watching for the long form videos in which you really take the audience through your creative process on the street. Very helpful to get a good feel of the mindset you need and the way you should approach situations. Then at a certain point in time, your videos just...stopped appearing in my feed for no clear reason and I honestly forgot all about your channel until this video just now suddenly did pop up in my feed. Now I'm again binging some of the videos you've published since I last checked you out. So yeah, it's basically weird algorithm things combined with having a busy life and lots of different content that gets pushed all the time. I can totally see how it must be frustrating to see your content not being watched, despite putting so much time and effort into it; not being able to properly share your passion with so many people like you intend to.

Thank you for all your videos and the work you put into them. I've enjoyed them a lot over the years. I appreciate your perspectives on composition, travel, your thought process for selecting gear, and your gear reviews too.
I just looked at which of your recent videos I haven't watched yet and they tend to be the ones that are longer than 15 minutes. Sometimes it's hard to find the amount of time to watch those in full.
I am a university professor and spend my summers overseas. I plan to visit Mongolia, India, Nepal, South Korea, and Japan this summer. Your recent videos on Nepal have been especially interesting to me.

Hi Pierre! Been following your channel since pretty much the beginning. Had bought my first proper digital camera a year before - a Fujifilm X100T. There have been more cameras since then and more experience and last year I completed a one-year course in Photography. Your channel along with a couple of others I followed was a catalyst for where I am today and I am incredibly grateful for that. You have an incredible energy and charisma and it is enhanced by the fact that you are so good at photography. I can understand your frustration with the new age algorithms. At the same time, I have also moved on to new photographic directions and therefore I have not visited your channel as often as before - but you and your channel are still very good. Among the best! I still love the 5 minute challenges and POV. But skip most of the reviews. There are too many who do. Tip/idea on what you can do more - a video now and then about why we shoot? What mood do we want to convey? Storytelling. Authenticity. Documentary. A crisis is good to have sometimes and receive it as a kind of gift in the best way you can. Something good will come out of this!

I am here for the long-form videos. Seeing places through the eyes of a photographer; tips and thoughts trickled in; and your personality/joy for the craft. There are tons of channels that focus on gear, the gear in action is always interesting, but not coming here for gear reviews. I have enjoyed the different challenges you have done, bringing in others. They keep a sense of anticipation in the video. I have seen other channels with multiple channels where they provide a condensed fast-paced version of the content, with another channel dedicated to long-form--I have enjoyed this, finding the content in the short-form, and when/if drawn in will click through to long-form.

I subscribed to your channel because I really enjoy the enthusiasm with which you do your photography; the excitement and joy you exude during your street photography POV videos. So I hope that you can find the right balance between doing something that allows you to still support your family and team, but also continues to bring you joy. I'm a Fuji shooter, so I skip all of your Sony (and Olympus and Leica...) related gear videos (but I do watch the '50mm only' type videos to see how that focal length affects your thinking and shots). The videos where you go out and shoot, but also share tips/tricks are helpful and enjoyable as are the 'challenge' vids. The long POV photography videos are cool, but I don't always have time to watch them - I typically watch TH-cam over lunch or for a bit in the evenings between coming home from work and dinner, so some more content in the ~20 minute range would be great. I've been having to watch your 'Epic 4 Hours of Street Photography...' video in segments for the same reason - I can't commit to spending an entire evening or half a Saturday watching one TH-cam video. Thanks for sharing this honest video with your channel and look forward to continuing to watch your content!

I've only recently started watching your channel in the past 6 months as I have gotten into street photography. I will say that one thing that led me to your channel was your challenges with other photographers as you travel. I was able to learn a lot from not just you, but others featured on your channel. It also led me to want to join a local community of photographers which I have done. Doing it solo is cool but having friends makes it even better in my opinion. Keep doing what you're doing!

Hey Pierre, thank you for posting this video, just came across this video and felt compelled to share my experience with your channel.
I started watching your videos when I was getting into street photography back in 2020, your videos always inspired me to go out there and shoot more. Lately I’ve been unable to enjoy my passion for photography as much as I’d like due to the cost of living crisis I’ve had to pick up more hours in my day job which has led to less time spent watching content and ultimately less time spent enjoying my passion for photography, I wonder if many of us are in the same situation right now?
Your channel is still one of my favourites and I particularly enjoy your style of content, your passion for photography has always been very contagious and I thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with us. I will continue watching and sharing your content and I wish you all the success in the future.

    Hello Pierre,
I saw your video and it moved me to see you open up about this issue, so I wanted to take the time to answer you.
It's been a few years now since I started photography and since the beginning I've been following you, in French an in English, I follow both your accounts as well as your Instagram page. I evolved in photography with you and also thanks to you by following your advice in various videos, I bought equipment that you tested in your videos too and even your presets are part of my Lightroom.
I did all this because you offered a wide range of videos and I could improve, lately I've had less time to do photography so less time to watch videos about this topic too, but also I wanted to find new ways of doing things, my own universe and so I may have watched your videos less.
It's interesting that you ask what your community would like, but you're going to get as many opinions from as many people, and I think the most important thing is to do what you like to do the most without it being forced, you have a very natural way of explaining complicated things in a very simple way, it's this personality that speaks to me a lot and it's above all what I want to find in your videos when I come to your channel.
Now that I want to go further into photography and the world of editing, AI, etc. is evolving, I'll be the first to watch your videos if you bring them up. But once again, do the things that are important to you, even if it means having less of an audience, but you'll enjoy it.Whatever you decide, know that I love what you're doing and I'll be watching your new concepts!
Another point is that the subject you're talking about today is so important and certainly affects a lot more people than you might think. So if you're interested, I'd like to officially invite you to come and discuss it on my podcast (knowing that you've been on my bucket list from the start). It's in french, the topic is about life changing events of my guests.
    Take care!

You have helped me develop in streetphoto and I now see more oportunites of compositions, how to think among other. Please don't stop doing your thing! Please come to Stockholm 😉 It would be great to join you thou I learned a lot from you. It would also be interesting if you talked even more about how you think about composing, editing and show some of your technique (do you coloring to get different moods etc) and some more about camera-settings in different situations. I also originally came upon your channel due to street photography and POV videos. I love your authenticity and perspective. I have also been gravitating towards content that focuses on building the story. I feel like a lot of us, humans as a whole, have reached the point of craving meaning...finding it, or even better, making it. The fact that more and more content creators, across platforms, and even the audiences, have become frustrated and fed up, and this has aligned with the rise of the algorithms, and thus, the repression of the humanness, speaks volumes to me.

    Salut Pierre,

Pierre, your energy and enthusiasm really make your channel stand out. I've been watching nearly since you started. I loved your recent series in Nepal, where you're sharing your thought process and some tips. It has to be really draining to come up with new ideas all the time, but you've done well. The one, for example, where you were zooming while the shutter was open was very cool and informative. However, I must admit I don't care about shorts and my attention tends to fade when you're on your bike taking hundreds of shots of people crossing the street. Then again, there's always something awesome in the lot. Gear vids are not so interesting to me unless I'm actually in the market for something. I'm hearing from a number of creators that it's discouraging to keep trying to churning out interesting content, and to keep a good work/family time balance. Just know that those problems seem to go with the territory, and you do have some loyal followers out here.

Hi Pierre. Love your work. Thanks for everything you have put into this channel. You asked for suggestions. How about taking a relative beginner on a shoot, maybe from your community, and doing a series talking them through composition, framing, maybe settings, etc of some practical photography. They could see in real time how to apply what you are talking about and you might find that one to one experience invigorating. You could also try just asking people off the street at a popular photo spot if they would like a tip from a professional photography to help them get a better shot. You might get some fun shorter clips. Whatever you decide to do, thanks again for putting out all of your great content.

I started watching your vids when I was getting heavy into photography and trying to as much as possible (particularly street photos)... probably back around 2018. Lately, I'll still check out your vids from time to time (I'm subbed, so I check in), but I don't jump on every tutorial that pops up in my feed anymore. I find that just going out and shooting is the best way to get better these days and I like hunting for photo inspiration in the videos I choose to watch now.
I guess the main thing that pops into my mind when thinking of your channel is the longer form POV street photography videos.

    Hi Pierre,
first of all: thank you so much for all the years and all your work! I always love to watch your street photography videos, and observing you in action has taught me a lot. I'm making my first steps into the world of getting my pictures shown, scored my first two group exhibitions this year - and the photos couldn't be more different from yours :D they're not street photos, and they're predominantly black and white. But whatever...you're part of this, too, so I can't thank you enough for all the videos you've made.
Having said that: you fell out of my YT starting page about a year ago and most of the time I have to actively look up your channel. I suppose that YT is going more for short term searches, at least at the moment. For example: I looked up two cocktail recipes a few days ago, and my feed couldn't be any more alcohol heavy right now. I'm getting cocktail and mixing recommendations left and right, while at the same time my starting page is almost completely empty with the channels I have subscribed to and watch frequently.
As many people have pointed out already I also don't believe that "chasing an algorithm" is an answer to the current problems. You should focus on the content you like and enjoy, because otherwise the quality would probably suffer. Potentially even a lot. Therefore I like the patreon idea, because it makes you a little more independent from YT's short term and unnoticed changes, and you can continue to make the content you actually want to make.
    Cheers from Cologne, Germany.
P.S.: I'm not really interested in the gear reviews. Can't afford that stuff anyway ^^

Your videos certainly guided my way of taking pictures! I mostly enyojed the street photography part but I'm also enjoying other stuff from time to time. I think the problem might be the overwhelming amount of new videos and recommendation algorythm. If you will keep up your work like before there still will be a lot of people who really appreciate your kind vibes and interesting content. You make youtube actually enyojable- Just have fun like before. The statistics will just ruin your genuine excitement! one kind of video that i love from you is your pov, this is the kind of content that motivate me to work on my photography, motivate me to go out and shoot. You're one of the creator that just inspire me everytime i go shooting.

STarted watching your channel just 2 weeks ago, just getting into photography, I will watch whatever you put out in the future :) I repsonally enjoy longer videos with thought processes over why eg you chose one composition in that situation over something else.
