Phantom was 80’s… late 80’s… you’re thinking Chorus Line, which was the only “Staple of Broadway” until it became a thing.

13:06 chenowith a la Mauzey impression… clearly Ari knew the musical and knew how great Mauzey was at the part as well as chenowith.

One of the most difficult movies to score this year imo.

I will say, I enjoy Wicked, but its not my favorite musical. However I have heard numerous positive reviews for this movie and it is making me more excited. Regardless, I still believe it should not be a 2 part, 5 hour experience. I still cannot understand why it needs to be SOOO long when the musical itself is only 2.5 hours long.

If you want 2 parts for box office revenue purposes, why not just two shorter parts? Two 90- or even 120-minute movies would make more sense.

@popcornforbreakfastpodcast 100% agree! 2.5 hours is a HUGE commitment. It can't drag and feel like 2.5 hours.

The extensive backlighting in “Dancing Through Life” didn’t bother me. We don’t need to be trained on Fiyero’s face because the lyric has no new information after the first verse. This is one of those musical theater songs like “Can’t Get a Man With a Gun” or “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” that only have one point to make, then they make it again and again in subsequent verses. Top lyricists like Irving Berlin or Cole Porter can make a song like this entertaining just through their wit and rhymes. “Dancing” doesn’t really rise to that level. It is there to introduce Fiyero and give him his moment as an important character. But mostly it’s there to entertain us with a big production number. Really, the only reason to see Jonathon’s face is for the subtext, not the lyric. Otherwise, the dance number is what the audience should be watching.
