Agreed, from the beginning of the conflict I was just outraged. How would any competent leader let the situation get so bad? Even if Russia "loses" the war, there's just no way Ukraine will get its territories back. How much more are they willing to lose before coming to their senses?
Do they think a NATO intervention wouldn't live their country devastated like Syria or Iraq?

Neither Kiev (or Baku, or Tibilisi or Erevan or, or, or were involved in decision making. So to blame Ukrainians for the Soviet invasion is funny.

@@eremstemero8823 By bolshevik ideology, there was no Russia or Russian patriotism. In fact Russian(ism) was the most harrased people, logically as a Russian patriotism would pose a bigger threat because of size and having a historical right (Ukraine wasnt really a thing, so the national romanticism and culture did pose a threat) - in fact Soviets endorsed Ukranian "awekaning" in campaigns etc. Blaming the partaking people, the ideology, but not an ethnic group or "nation" because there were none.
Communism is globalist in their perspective "workers of the world unite" etc, need to stamp down national movments, any tought against the system. Moscow was the industrial, economic, cultural etc capital of the country with largest population. If Kiev would have been that city, it would have been placed there. Nontheless, Ukranian troops comming in ruthlessly, breaking all human rights, shooting kids and with any method putting down the revolution. Despite the Hungarophobia in Ukranian peoples (unlike among Russians or any other group, because of Bandera earlier and being the most chauvinistic group within the system), it was however not by their own volition but because of strategic reasons (Ukraine was closer among other things). However, neither Russia or the Ukraine are to blame for it. Not only because they only existed as states on paper, but the communist ideology and imperialism is. I just wanted to level out the playing field, because blaming Russia and Russians has taken root, when its entirely false.

Transcarpathian Hungarians called on Orbán to support Ukraine on its way to European integration
The Hungarian Democratic Union of Ukraine posted the open letter in which the Hungarian leaders of Transcarpathia assure Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, that they support the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership scheduled for December 14-15.
"Over the past year, Ukraine has made significant progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations on ensuring the rights of national minorities. The new draft law adopted by the Ukrainian parliament significantly reflects the interests of national minorities and enjoys our full support," they wrote.
"We strongly call on the leaders of the EU member states to continue supporting Ukraine on the path of European integration. The move to ensure democracy and the rights of national minorities is an integral part of the Copenhagen membership criteria, and we believe that Ukraine deserves its efforts in this direction."

The government can only suppress it can't hide what is actually happening around the world- the only way they'd have success is if they ALREADY had North Korea level information suppression and social isolation. The Kingdom of Hungary entered the Second World War and took part in it on the side of Nazi Germany until the very end of the war, eventually falling into the Soviet zone of occupation. The economic situation in the country was further complicated by the fact that Hungary, as an ally of Germany in World War II, was obliged to pay reparations to the USSR, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia for several years, sometimes reaching a quarter of the national product. The development of events in Hungary coincided with the Suez crisis - on October 29, Israel, and then NATO members Great Britain and France, attacked Egypt supported by the USSR in order to capture the Suez Canal, next to which they landed their troops.According to the German Minister of Defense F. J. Strauss: At first, the Americans give hope to the Hungarians, but when things get serious, they leave the Hungarian people to their fate. There could be no talk of military intervention by NATO. The suppression of the Hungarian popular uprising by the Red Army was not seen as an action affecting the interests of NATO

To see the essence: the Hungarian "revolution" in 1956 was not a real revolution.
The demonstrators were ready to find a compromise with the new communist prime minister, Imre Nagy.
      ..
This Inre Nagy was supported by Moscow, too. He could speak Russian as he spent long time in the USSR before 1944.
      ..
So, It was not the Hungarian rebels who took over power in Hungary, but the Soviet troops, the Red Army, who carried out a coup on 4 November 1956.
Because Khrushchev did not like the new (legitimate) Hungarian government's policy of neutrality.
      ..
The legitimate Hungarian government accepted the democratic rules of the game - and the Soviet Union didn't like it.
      ..
The situation was similar in Czechoslovakia in 1968. There were not even any serious protests there. Only the Soviet leadership did not like the prospect of democratic development. Therefore, the Soviet leaders and the Soviet troops organized a military takeover (coup d'état) there.

The cruelty, atrocities and crimes of the Magyars were clarified after the liberation of Russian villages and villages by the Red Army. For example, according to the leadership of the Soviet troops, in the Chernyansky district of the Kursk region in 1943, the Hungarians burned 360 captured Russian soldiers and civilians alive. In the same region, on the Kharyevka farm, the German allies mutilated 4 Red Army soldiers with bayonets and buried them alive in the soil. Hungary became a puppet state of the Soviet Union, which led to an uprising in 1956 against them. Russia has invaded Ukraine, a neighbour of Hungary, and instead of supporting the defence, Orban wants to block arms to Ukraine, which will make them lose. Despite the sanctions placed on Hungary Orban is going to great lengths to sabotage the war effort in Russia's favour. He knows that a ceasefire without returning occupied territory back to Ukraine will only lead to more invasions of Ukraine by Russsia. So, his policies will only lead to more Hungarian Ukranian deaths in Ukraine rather than save their lives, which he is claiming to do.

Someone asked to put on of my answer below in this, so here it is:
We don't confront them like that because our energy dependency, the (oppressed) Hungarian minority in Ukraine which can be target for retaliation, we don' let go weapons in the Hungarian-Ukrainian border from any source because they would go trough that territory and make it a target (but we let through weapons to other NATO countries even if they end up in Ukraine), also although I don't know how much Orbán is basing his decision on that, but as I said most of the Hungarians have no blind faith in the West and NATO, so the prevalent opinion is to leave us out of your power games. Especially tat we have no obligations mixing in this conflict as Ukraine is not a NATO country. It would be different if a member state would have been attacked, then all other would have bound to treat it as an attack on themselves. I mean NATO would collapse if it's doesn't keep article 5 from whatever reason, because all other member state would loose it's trust in the alliance.

What is the experience of these Russian actions?
The experience is that Russians do not care how many people die - because Russians are much more than Hungarians.
      ..
In 1956 about 4 thousand Hungarians died - 400 Hungarians were executed.
We Hungarians feel - this was too many people.
      ..
We should have avoided this - as the Chechs did in 1968.

be resigned to the demolition of their country.
      Hungary's dismembering is so dishonourable
that no one takes responsibility for it.
Everybody acts like they don't know about it,
everybody is in coy silence. The reference to
the right of nations' self-determination is only
an untrue formula... they misused their victory
in the most vicious way... There's no French,
English or Italian who would accept the
conditions forced to Hungary for their own
      nation..."
Herbert Henry Asquith, Prime Minister of the
United Kingdom for 8 years, 1925:
"This treaty is no work of statesmen, but the
result of severe and fatal deceptions."
      Vladimir Iljic Lenin:
"The treaty was forced down their throat, but
this is a usurious treaty, the treaty of murderers
      and butchers... unprecedented, predacious
treaty... this is no treaty, these are conditions
that scampsmen dictate with knives in their
      hands to unprotected victims."
Lloyd George, Prime Minister of the U.K., in his
speech on the 7th of October, 1929:
"The whole documentation that we received
from our allies at the peace talk, was deceitfuland untrue. We came to a decision on false
      principles"
Arthur Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of
      the U.K.:

not peace, but the fear of another war."

@30yoboomer It's always astonishing when someone makes a comparison between Russia and nazi Germany, or Putin and hitler. Like your calling Russia nazis when it's well established fact and known through the whole world that the nazi Azov are fighting AGAINST Russia WITH Ukraine.
I used to mock the idea that the U.S. somehow helped nazi Germany in the 1930s by pumping money and investing through its major corporations, but now when I see it clearly, the USA supporting nazis, that doesn't become very unlikely. They lie to us about what is happening now, they sure aren't truthful about what happened a 100 years ago.

It's funny how when these interviews take place re Russian invasion and this conflict, the interviewers never approach the subject from the standpoint of a violent coup d'etat in Kiev which removed the legitimate Government of Ukraine, which in turn heralded a raft of anti Russian legislation, and attacks on ethnic Russians, and a war waged against the largely ethnic Russian populations of the regions of the Donbas right on the border of the Russian Federation. At the point the Russians invaded, this conflict had been going on for 8 years and some 14, 000 people, thousands of them civilians, had already died. It might be refreshing to hear some of that background if you're trying to understand how things have reached this pass.

You pretend that Russia invaded only now, but the entire separatist movement & militias in Donbas were Russian orchestrated and supplied. MH17 was shot down by a Russian Buk system in eastern Ukraine. Russian regular army forces aided the militias. After the first two years, civilian casualties were minimal. Now, after a little more than 1 year into the "special military operation" Russia has lost 200,000 kia/wia at least. Who knows how many of the so-called DNR & LNR forces have been killed-in fact, far more in this phase of Putin's war than in the early period, 2014-2021.

It is a big game, a gamble.
If the West believes that Putin is like Hitler and Selensky is an innocent victim then Ukraine will get enough weapons to harm Russia.
Even a regime change is possible in Russia.
This appears like the main interest of the US or Great-Britain.
      ..
These western politicians do not care about the victims of this war.
      ..
When some American politicians were asked about the price Iraq had to pay (hundreds of thousands of killed Iraqi people by Americans) these Americans answered that it was worth sacrificing thise people in order to change the regime in Iraq.
      ..
      The democracy depended on media.
If the media tells only lies, if the media tells that the war is necessery -
people are ready to support wars.
      ..
It was the same in Germany, too before and during ww2.
      ..
Germans supported the war because they believed what the media (Hitler, Goebbels) said about the enemies of Germany.
      ..
The essence: to show the enemy as the devil.
To suggest that the enemy wants to kill you or destroy your country.
      ..
The propaganda of war usually does not let true information through.
      ..
We can see a similar situation now.
      ..
The true information about the high price of the war about that Hungary and the pope warning the world - this can not go through the mass media.
      ..
The owners of mass media support the war - they do not want to let
      people think, consider different options.
      ..
There are options to stop this war with diplomacy.
      ..
The pope knows that, Jeffrey Sachs knows that, Orban knows that.
      ..
But if the aim is a regime change in Russia then the war is necessary.
      ..
We must see, we must decide what is the interest of people in Ukraine.
I think, their interest is to return to a peacuful life as soon as possible.
      ..
And politicians can and must negotiate about the status of Crimea when there is already peace.

The US will default in a few days, the Eu is falling apart, in the same time when India, Brazil, China and many others are siding with the Russians. The reality is that 80% of Earth's population either doesn't give a banana or supports Russia. This war is pushed by the US as their last attempt to hang on . Mind you did you call the US an aggressor when they killed hundreds of thousands in Iraq? Could you please list the sanctions we did?
