BoJack’s Game Show Episode Explained

- Let’s Find Out is a beloved episode of BoJack Horseman, but unlike many of the show’s other most popular episodes, it doesn’t seem to be beloved for its more profound or sadder moments, but instead, for it’s wildly impressive send up of game show television, all through the framing of a minute by minute live production. And though this is certainly my favorite thing about the episode, it also contains some great social commentary and wildly important moments for BoJack as a character, especially in the context of the show up to this point. So, let’s all ask that age old question together. Hollywoo stars and celebrities, what do they know? Do they know things? Let’s. Find. Out.

The fact that Bojack finally reveals why he hates Mr. Peanutbutter, And Mr. Peanutbutter drops his usual happy go lucky act and gets serious is one of my favorite things about this episode!
Saying the title of hsacwdtkdtktlfo is one of my favorite gags throughout the seasons.
you forgot that this episode shows a dark side of wanda here. Despite she´s so positive, she´s a executive producer, and when money is envolve, she put her job in front of the ethic.
I still love her lol
@@JackieDaytona1776 Yeah, and her design is sooo good
As a history major; one of my personal favorite little jokes from this episode is Bojack exhibiting casually writing a very cogent, and insightful history as to the root causes and ramifications of the French Revolution from a sociological standpoint
I dunno it just tickles my funny bone seeing characters who don’t have their shit together inexplicably displaying highly technical and peculiar knowledge
True got the same laugh during the book tour in the first season when he was navigating the question on the Israel Palestine conflict
@@sv32099 this was back when the joke was that she was “too functional” but Diane going on a tangent about the many different Feminist interpretations of Sarah Lynn is also a very memorable moment for me.
I find myself having a ton of those “actuallly… but… and then again… however… but of course” loops constantly in my internal monologue, and I know I’m not the only one
@@noriyakigumble3011 I was about to say the same thing lmao
@@sv32099 same here
The Elijah wood joke is so ridiculously good I think about it all the time. What a powerful episode topped off with one of the most ridiculous jokes ever.
I never cared much about celebrities so this was the first time I ever heard Elijah Wood's name. So now every time I hear it I think "Elijah Wood??!?!??!"
omg, I love it so much too! you're watching the episode obviously rooting for Bojact and Daniel iss such an ahole in it and the final Bojack's answer is just *chef's kiss*! I was immediately moved back in time when those two franchises (HP and LOTR) were at its peak and people were arguing about which one is better. Seriously, Bojack couldn't choose pettier answer even is he tried and I hecking loved it!
I really love when the show ended episodes with jokes like that, cause there is always something darker behind them!
For example, that episode that was taking place underwater, ended up with a joke that Bojack was actually able to talk all the time. Its supposed to be a funny way of ending a not-so-funny episode, but when you think about it, it actually means that "Bojack was able to communicate all along, but he refused to realize it", which is so fitting.
Or the "free churro" episode. It also end up with a joke, that Bojack was in the wrong funeral all along. But in a way, this "joke" is also just another metaphor for Bojacks life - In those rare moments, when he is honest and open about himself... nobody is there to witness it and hear him.
Can you explain the joke cause i didnt get it
@@CodeWithRiElijah wood looks similar to Daniel Radcliffe, wood also plays Frodo in lotr which is compared to Harry Potter as they were both getting released at the same time and heavily compared to eachother
It says a lot about this show that BoJack setting half a million dollars of _charity money_ on fire, purely out of spite, wouldn't make a top ten list of his worst actions.
And this is one of the episodes where he's at his _most_ sympathetic, because he'd been reining in his asshole behaviour until then, and he'd been subject to a long public humiliation for most of the episode without knowing what he was signing up for, so you can't help but feel bad for him. ...In the episode where he sets charity money on fire just to be petty.
"reining in" I see what you did there XD
I agree, but you also feel bad for him because “Elijah Wood” does the same thing to him backstage. It’s not justified, but it was provoked
Didn’t he think it was for Elijah Woods gf “called charity”?
@@hetty100yes, he did say that. you could argue that he was bluffing, but he seemed pretty convinced.
Tbf can't blame him for the show even having a setup where 500k dollars can be burned
It was great seeing Mr. Peanutbutter finally have a real moment where he got mad at Bojack instead of being completely forgiving. This was a nice prelude for when Todd did the same thing, even if Mr. PB forgave him more thoroughly in the end I liked seeing one of the consistent pushover characters actually provide repercussions
Mr peanut has been real since his brother got cancer.
the two things i remember most about this episode are:
1. the title of the game show
2. bojack and mr peanutbutter kissing
goated episode tbh
same and todd fighting for the pen
@@alissalalalaYES how could i forget
Bojack: Things are just so easy for you
Mr PB: And things aren't easy for you? You're a millionaire who has a girlfriend who loves you and you get to act in your dream movie what more do you want? What else can the universe possibly owe you?
Bojack: I want to feel good about myself the way you do and I dont know how I dont know if I can
That conversation got real really real really really real.
I know it was a serious moment. Like I love watching Mr. Peanut butter, finally stand up to Bojack and get every thing out in the air. Also showing that he’s not stupid, he hears a Bojack every time he’s insulting him. Even kind of showing how nice a guy he is he never once brought up that he knew Bojack kissed Diane up until that point and he never brings up again. Even though no would have blamed him if he did.
But I died laughing when Mr. peanut butter pulled out those chairs and stopped the entire game show. The audience is just sitting there in awkward silence, not knowing what’s going on. Almost as if they are being held hostage by the tension of the situation. Just imagine you’re watching Jeopardy and Alex gets so mad he stops the music and brings out some chair to talk about it.
Hey Johnny, I have some bad news... if you keep doing breakdowns for every fantastic episode of BoJack Horseman, you're gonna wake up one day and realize you did every episode in the whole series!
I hope someday you can get to Surprise! and lovin that cali lifestyle!!
I read a theory that the screams for the transitions are all clips of Diane speaking to Mr. PB on the phone or leaving a voicemail and honestly it makes so much sense.
Yea, she also sounds like Diane, but I can belive Mr PB would show something so personal about Diane on tv...but also I really belive it
Dude, you just made me see this episode in a MUCH DARKER way.
The dead bodies line?
@@babscabs1987 yeah its about her time in war-torn Cordovia
Well that would certainly make the relationship interesting
Really people don't love the ending? The game show stuff is fun, but it's the end *"where things get real"* that makes the episode memorable.
It's a small detail but MPB goes and gets a couple of folding chairs to have the chat, the chairs look so out of place on the crazy set but it shows MPB was not doing it for the cameras, he wanted to have a "real" talk for once.
I also love that when Bojack apologizes MPB straight up says "I don't know if I can forgive you."
Good episode all around but that ending was top tier bojack.
Oh my god, I just read the fan theory that the screams of Diane leaving voicemails while on Cordovia and it has made this episode SO MUCH DARKER
DAMN
Not only does it sound like her, but I went back and checked and this is literally the episode directly after she leaves! Poor Diane😭😭😭
Not only does it sound like her, but I went back and checked and this is literally the episode directly after she leaves! Poor Diane😭😭😭
I mean yea but also I don't think Diane would be screaming into her phone as a voice mail. Idk with her childhood she strikes me more as someone who would be keeping it bottled in, quietly sobbing. Plus she also knows Mr PB isn't super receptive to emotions like that
I’ve always loved Wanda’s mask off moment in this episode. She’s so vicious and cruel for thirty seconds, and it suddenly makes it all very clear why she ended up producing television.
Also why she was able to leave Bojack the healthiest - she didn’t stay in the illusion Bojack could be what she wanted and left him with little remorse. Harsh, but she ended up avoiding a worse fate with Bojack
Yeah, she's a sweetheart but can be cold when needed.
Im pretty sure it’s Allison Brie (Diane) who does the screams between rounds. Definitely sounds like her.
That phrase entered my jargon after seeing a later episode.
"As my favorite TV shows says: let's find out."
I say this all the time!
Today, pretty crazy on what a lot of people would consider a throwaway episode. Bojack, truly sincerely apologizes to mister peanut butter. And openly, and honestly admits that he doesn't feel good about himself. That's actually a huge episode
In a society that's increasingly obsessed with celebrity culture, I think it's important to find out what stars and celebrities know and whether or not they know things.
i think it’s fun to find out!
This is such an underrated episodes. It works so well!
This was one of the hardest lines of Mr. Peanutbutter in the series and one of the first instances I saw him not as a comedic relief character opposite to BoJack but as a genuine member of the show
Bojack's core issue with even attempting to fix anything is that he either apologizes(sometimes sincerly sometimes not) or tries to change his behavior(Giving up at any problem but I digress) but NEVER both.
It's also interesting to think about through this lens. What does it take to get the ultimate laid back guy to ask for an apology from the ultimate curmudgeon, and get it?
PB needed to be pushed, needled, and annoyed to bring the conflict to the surface of his otherwise extremely forgiving and conflict avoidant personality.
Bojack needed pressure to open up, and to see that the ways he's wronged PB aren't actually covered by their normal dynamic of unrequited like/dislike.
PB is too good natured and BJ is too closed off for the tension to build up naturally over time. Sitcom mode just resets them every night.
So both characters needed to have it all come together at once, and be put in front of witnesses to make it all stick.
Hot take but I actually can't stand Mr. Peanutbutter. He always has this happy-go-lucky stand on everything and doesn't really consider other people's views or opinions much until it's something that has to directly do with him. Props for him leaning into people like Bojack when he deserves it, but he's not that much better.
I’m so glad you covered this episode. It’s one of my FAVOURITES! From PB and Bojacks development to Wanda’s BIG red flag from Bojack right at the end there… Amazing video as always!!!
Daniel Radcliffe’s appearance in this episode is literally the only animated representation of dyspraxia that I’ve seen so props to this episode for that I guess
...Huh.
... That's...huh.
@@Talisguy it's a form of disability when it comes to motor functions.
I just did a google search, but that's a good thing about representation, we learn things and we know things and we find out!
Oh, cool, can you give some examples on how they're portraying that here? I tried looking for signs in this video but can't tell what's deliberate vs general animation wonky-ness 😅
@@vic2249 well there is no portrayal, it’s just an animated representation of an actor that happens to be dyspraxic, i don’t even think that they had it in mind; and I honestly think that’s better than just using the disability for plot reasons like they did in doctor who
@@riarivera5995No, I know what it is. I have it and have also studied it. The "huh" was me realising that "actor who happens to have dyspraxia plays himself on BoJack Horseman" was the only dyspraxic representation I'd seen in an animated show too, and one of maybe three representations total. I didn't realise how little it's shown until this comment. Hence, "huh."
Wake up babe, new Johnny2Cellos Bojack video!
I was so disappointed when Bojack let the money be torched but I get it... we've all had at least one moment where pride or getting the last laugh made us do something shitty in the moment.
Your bojack content keeps my love of this show alive and well
This episode is so important for both Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter's development!
One of my favorite episodes because Mr. Peanut butter showed his more serious side and basically showed he wasn't just a goofy side character and he was fully aware that Bojack didn't like him and treated him like a joke and he knew all along that Bojack had kissed Diane but just never brought it up. And it also showed why Bojack didn't like him because he was jealous over the fact that Mr. PB could feel good about himself and was happy most of the time and Bojack can't have that.
this episode feels like a Twilight Zone episode with its manic feel to it
In the true sense of it, I don’t think Bojack got Herb fired. He probably would have also gotten fired if he said anything.
Herb wasn’t mad about that either. He was angry because Bojack never reached out afterwards.
I do think he should've stuck by Herb, gotten fired together, and sold their show to another network. Especially given how conservative ABC was in the 80s and 90s. NBC or Fox would've absolutely bought either literally Horsin Around or a new show from them.
I think Herb was upset at the moment, but got over it eventually. Bojack just tends to assume that whenever he hurts someone that person's life is forever ruined and they spend every moment thinking about him.
@@kaitlyn__L Wouldn't the network own the rights to Horsin' Around?
I really thought Mia was going to be a reoccurring character. Her dynamic with Todd seemed really interesting and fun. She even returned in a cameo in another episode. I’m just still surprised to this day that she didn’t become a more significant character.
This is by far the most slept on episode- it combines some of the shadows best jokes and gags with some unexpected character establishment for PB, that he isn't an unaware dumbass and that BoJack had deeply hurt and taken advantage of him thinking he was too stupid to notice
i think BoJack saying "Elijah Wood" shows that his apology to Mr Peanutbutter was genuine - he did not object to kissing Mr Peanutbutter at all, despite often disliking him and being jealous of his ability to like himself. BoJack clearly wanted Mr Peanubutter's forgiveness in that moment so much he was willing to publicly make out with him. However,
he was not willing to give Daniel Radcliffe the recognition. It shows us how genuine he was towards Mr Peanutbutter here and in every episode from here on, their
relationship is, from Mr Peanutbutter's side, always unbroken. Especially shown in the "Stupd piece of S..t" episode. But
as
for burning the money - i mean, i would personally do that to stick it to Radcliffe, but i would then afterwards donate double of that sum from my own funds, especially if i had BoJack's money.
technically, bojack doomed the entire production of HWSACWDTK?DTKT?LFO!, since he was the first guest featured on the show, the audience will get their first impressions from BJ, but since bojack made the production so suspensful and emotional than originally intended, threw his sudden success in answering questions, his out of nowhere real talk with mr PB, and ofcourse letting all the charity money fall into the fire pit, he left the audience expecting something completely different than you're average tv game show, wich would have lost potential viewers who didnt like how anti-climatic the ending was, or from viewers who liked the show, but wont be getting to see another broadcast like this again, since no other celebrity has the amount of problems and drama with PB as BJ, so BJ lack of concern for the show, even though being the first guest is a huge deal, doomed the show.
this is just another moment of BJ screwing people over just because he didn't care
Love when you point out the parallel episodes across seasons. The writers had an amazing process and vision for the series.
My first ad on this video was a clip of Game Changers were they had to name what bird was on the screen, and while the first 2 contestants were getting birds like "penguin" and "flamingo" the host would get to Brennan and ask him to name a "Roseate Spoonbill" 😂😂😂 exactly the thing MPB was putting Bojack through on his show
I can't ever get enough of this show
It's one of my favorites!
Love your Bojack content mr. 2Chellos
Have you noticed the observatory behind BoJack?
This epsiode is so good narratively because while it is about the game show, the real focal point is absolutely on the dynamic of Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter and the games that they've been playing in their so called "friendship."
Should've titled this video Johnny 2 Cellos: What Does He Know About BoJack And Mr Peanutbutter? Does he know things? Let's Find Out!
When the world (and me) needed him most, HE RETURNS WITH A NEW BOJACK BREAKDOWN! I'm so happy you're covering this episode finally :D
We have the hole series to know how Bojack it's selfish and stubborn. But that ending burn money of charity says more about the industry and television, than Bojack... However says about him too.
Funny how it’s a game show that’s supposed to “reach the depths of humanity” actually reaches so deep MPB breaks his happy go lucky persona for the first time here
ELIJAH WOOD????
This episode is great. I give it two dongs, straight up.
Daniel Radcliffe playing against type as a complete jerk always makes me laugh. You can tell he was having a great time doing it, too.
It’s so funny because I feel like this episode started Bojack x Mr. Peanutbutter as a ship. Like, seriously.
first time i watched that ending i laughed my ass off 🤣
Let's find out if this video will be Great!
Spoilers: it will be
Please never stop doing these
The cancer support website joke with Wanda is still one of my favs
Seeing the set, I wonder if they put the Griffith Observatory behind Bojack on purpose as kind of a little hint that he is going to have a horrible time the next time he's there as well.
Oh GOD that is BRUTAL foreshadowing
I wss so wrapped up in writing that I missed the top 100 like chance
I was 102
I love your Bojack analysis videos. This show is so layered that it can be examined over and over again and new perspectives shown.
i thought BoJack's apology was clearly genuine, bcs he was willing to kiss Mr PB no problem. just to make sure that there is no real grudge or Mr PB's side.
It’s such a great episode, it might be my favourite one in all of season 2
That ending was ABRUPT!!
NEW BOJAXK HORSEMAN ANAYLISS VIDEO OMG OMG
I loved this episode. I was hoping you were going to cover it!
Ohhh I missed some Bojack analysis. This is what I needed
OH MY GOD ITS DANIEL RADCLIIIIFEEE
I couldn’t tell if Mr peanut butter is unbelievably dumb and thinks kissing bojack will help resolve their problem or he wants to give bojack a smooch without looking too suspicious
Random thought cause it is been long since I have seen the show but do you think Efficiency Todd's slick hair is Todd trying to imitate Judah's pulled back hair?
Bro keeps changing the title of the vid and I love it 😂😂😂
Top 5 bojack episode for me for sure
Am I crazy Johhny, or did you change the title of the video like 4 times in the past day??
One of my favourites definitely
Excellent analysis video! You've done it again Johnny!
"AARGH!! I WATCHED THEM DIE!!!!" 😂😂😂
Well played jock jam door slam 🤣
you kinda sound like Mr. Peanutbutter!! i looove your bojack videos, keep going!
Whose Idea was it to give you a theme song rap because it's pretty good
Definitely a classic towards me! ❤
Just rewatched this one today! Loveeee this episode.
Will Johnny change the title for a fourth time? Let's Find Out!
Was just rewatching your past Bojack videos this week and was hoping for a new one! Thank you, king!
It's so funny how many times the title of this was changed. I think I like this one the most.
I wonder what Salinger would think of his animated counterpart?
I always think about this 😂
So, if bojack answers correctly, all of that money, or possibly double that, would be donated to charity, but that celebrity would officially win the gameshow, and if he dident, the entire money pile would be dropped into the fire, and nobody would win, am i correct here? And the question was obviously “who is the author of Harry potter?” Wich, after some thingking, IVE remembered is named J.k. Rowling!
Love the bojack vids :)
The South Park and Bojack analysis’ are my favorite from you Johnny!
I love this so much
That Bojack owed PB an apology is an interesting thought, because they weren't really friends at this point at all. Only PB thought they were friends. So did Bojack owe PB that apology?
My favorite episode of the entire show, NGL.
There's an episode where you see the executive mouse in line at a coffee shop wearing a Stanford sweatshirt.
A bit of a side question but, would Bojack and Mr.Peanutbutter worked as a couple? I’m curious.
In bojacks defense Radcliffe was very unlikable in this episode. So he shouldve burned the money
The Elijah Wood joke... this show could take you to a ride of emotion, and be funny as hell the same time
they kisses?
*So I guess you can say, "the game was rigged from the start"* 😅
This is really well made man! You deserve more viewers, underrated as fuck !
4:35 are we forgetting that one episode was done in real time? Free Churros was real time minus the intro
my all time favorite episode. the pacing is immaculate
Does anyone remember the original title for this video?
this is absolutely the funniest episode of the whole show
55 seconds ago is crazy
If only this video had a kiss cam...
I’m unsure if bojack’s apology is really for kissing Diane, or for his bad treatment of Mr. PB overall
I def think it’s the latter
