- The Fiat Panda 4x4 is the only 4WD model in segment A. Successor to a best-seller which first appeared 29 years ago and made its name as the smallest and most interesting "explorer" in the category, today's new four-wheel drive Panda is a Jack of all trades, ready to tackle mountain mule tracks and the urban jungle with the same cool. In addition to standard equipment able to satisfy the most demanding of customers, from a technical point of view, the new Panda 4x4 has bettered itself once more and proven its admirable capacity to compete with off-road cars of much greater dimensions (as well as much higher prices).
With five doors, the car is 368 centimetres long, 167 centimetres wide and 160 centimetres high. The wheelbase is 230 centimetres. It has a front track of 141 centimetres and a rear track of 140. With a look characterised by the marked geometric lines of the front and rear bumpers, with aluminium coloured cosmetic inserts to underline the presence of metallic protection under the body, the new Panda 4x4 also comes in two new bodywork colours: Sicilia orange (pastel) and Toscana green (metallic). With respect to the solutions adopted on 4x2 versions, this Panda offers some new features: a new green fascia variant frames the instruments and the large storage pocket, fabric seats with a special design in three colour options (green, sand, pumpkin) and eco-leather details, and finally a new storage compartment added to the 14 already present on the 4x2.
The Panda 4x4 is a vehicle with outstanding personality, which knows how to win over the most demanding customers, lovers of adventure and life in the open air. For those customers, the new version uses a "Torque on demand" drive system, which is activated automatically when needed, so you can tackle any driving situation in complete cool. The Panda also 4x4 features the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system with ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) function as standard. This system provides additional assistance while driving and setting off on slippery terrain (snow, ice, mud etc.).
The Panda 4x4 also offers all the dynamics and comfort you need to complete long and challenging routes, thanks above all to the revised suspension- an independent MacPherson wheel arrangement at the front and interconnected wheels with torsion beam layout at the rear - to the 6-speed gearbox with shortened first gear connected to the TwinAir Turbo engine, to accentuate the model's off-road features, ensuring optimum setting off during hill starts. Finally, to ensure maximum grip on any road surface the new model benefits from specifically developed 175/65 R15 84T M+S tyres.
The Fiat Panda 4x4 is available with two engine options, both with Start&Stop: the new 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir Turbo and the 75 HP 1.3 MultiJet II diesel. The TwinAir Turbo has 40% more torque than the 1.2 Fire of the previous generation. This, in combination with the special six-speed gearbox with shortened first gear, ensures much better uphill starts, quality start-up, flexibility and pick-up. A similar improvement is evident on the MultiJet II engine, where torque is increased by 30%.
The car offers a wealth of standard equipment, including: ESC system with ELD, manual climate control system, CD/MP3 radio, 15" burnished alloy rims, 175/65 R15 M+S tyres, electric door mirrors, central locking system with remote control and rear headrests. Any car can do this. Any. But you may be ironic? That would make sense. And if it counts, I've got a Panda 4x4 and 3 Land Rovers. And I am born and raised far inside the arctic circle.
Right, now here is my opinion. Nobody seems to be able to tell if this is the twinair or diesel version. Some well educated people on here saying its noisy. Well of course it will be if you keep the revs high in low gear on a small engine, like the car in this clip!
that's definitely the sound of the Fiat 1.3 multijet, one of (if not) the best small diesel engine on the market. A little bit stressed in this video, like someone out there noticed (2.500/3.000 RPM I'd say) and that's what makes it seem noisy.
It is the diesel mutlijet. I used to have one they are amazing little cars. Wish I had kept it they don't make them now.

That is not a diesel! That's the 875cc 2 cylinder (Twinair) petrol engine in that, which is why it sounds like a wasp stuck in a beer can. It produces 83bhp though which is quite impressive. If. You want some more grunt then go for the 1.3 multijet Diesel engine

Sounds horrible as you all say, it use a twin air engine which is a two cylinder engine with a turbo, and it's for the fuel efficiency. Don't get to annoyed

I just got a Panda 4x4 cross. The manual says it doesn t take snow chains. Why? How on earth am I going to descend a steep downhill road with snow and ice without chains? Even snow and ice tyres are not good enough. Any ideas?

@@CataP9 i actually didnt. I use good snow and ice tyres and avoid downheel when there is ice.
do metal chains really grip ice better than the best winter tyres?

Thanks. I have a Twinair 4x4 and the tyres are “175/65 R15 84T (M+S)(°)” which “can be fitted with reduced size snow chains: 7 mm”, but your Panda Cross has the optional wider 185/65 R15 88H (M+S) which can’t - presumably because the wider tyres means there is not enough room between the tyres and the wheel arches.
It seems the Panda Cross can also be fitted with the 175/65 tyre, but I suspect Fiat dealers don’t bother explaining this to customers (or if you bought second hand, like me, then you would only find out when you read the manual). It does seem crazy to fit wheels/tyres which limit the use of a car designed to maximise driveability in adverse conditions!

The engine is a little buzzy for our American soil but I’d still want one I’ve heard old diesel Mercedes that sound louder n far worst n this would make a cool ass winter toy ,til I bring the monster out in the summer .

I like it and I am sure in the snow it would perform better than my current Corsa, which has been an excellent car but it is terrible in snow. The Panda sounds terrible but who cares when you have your favourite CD on you are driving down the road. I drive a lot of country lanes looking for long walks so for me I think it would be ideal as in the winter very easy to get stuck in a muddy field.

2)HENCE, 4 cylinders.
get your favourite diesel car, bring it to 3.000 RPM in 2nd gear, and stay there without accelerating any further nor shifting gear.. then let's see what kind of sound will come out of there..
Every diesel engine - when no more power is requested - should be kept under 1500/2000 RPM in normal working conditions. Exactly what in this video was not done.

Actually not brilliant. Although it is light and tires are cheap per pair the small wheels and small engine will not serve you in the deep snow. Excellent winching equipment will be essential if you are relying on the Panda in winter because of the small engine and small wheels.
You don't need big tyres in snow, or huge power.

Waste of a video... show it stopping in fresh snow then moving off thats what happens when your in traffic not keeping it going on hardpack. Any car will keep moving on hardpack!,,,,,,
Some of that snow was quite loose and deep, it wasn't all hardpack. Also we have a small gradient on our road, when the snow is fresh most cars can get up no problem but as soon as it becomes hard packed nobody can get up there except 4x4, my panda 4x4 makes it no problem. Apart from starting and stopping this seemed like a fair test of pretty bad snowy conditions.
Remember this is not pretending to be a Jeep or Landrover, it is simply a small urban city car which can tackle the rough stuff and it does it very well😎👍😁
