Preferred a lot of the Pixel shots in this video. Most Pixel photos can be edited to look like the iPhone but most iPhone photos cannot be edited to look like the Pixel

Wait... You say that iPhone in general makes more realistic photos (never seen such green grass or blue sky as iPhone does) but then you prefer dark walls with focus on a sky, while in reality those walls inside were never dark... I feel confused.

I have both iPhone 13 and Pixel 3a(quite old). But when it comes to photos, Pixel photos are very consistant and the algo is really intelligent. While, iphone sometimes gives me too dark shadows (which i can see by my naked eyes) and over colored grass. And for HDR scenes, it resembled Samsung phones, too much over colored and artificial. And finally i sold my iPhone today, waiting for Pixel 7 now.

Cmon, just look at the shots on the window, the pixel looks super artificial and fake, the iPhone has less dynamic range but looks a lot more natural, I guess most of it is due to the insane oversharpening of the pixel…

I have a Pixel 6 Pro. Something I wish Google would fix, is the telephoto lens. I can only record with it in 4K 30. It would be nice if I could use it when recording FHD 30 and 60FPS. I'm also unable to use the 4x lens for portraits and slow motion videos. It also takes much longer to switch lenses than iPhones. I did notice the lenses are placed differently on the Pixel 7 Pro. So zoom should be smoother on the new Pixel phones.

    • @ItsTomRich
      @ItsTomRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I didn't know that you couldn't use it to record60fps. That does seem like an oversight! Also massively agree about the portrait mode and telephoto lens. You could have subtle portrait mode effect on those shots and actually get a pretty realistic look.

I have both iPhone 13 and Pixel 3a(quite old). So here are some real bad things i noticed about iPhone.
    - It sometimes gives me too dark shadows (which i can see by my naked eyes)
    - Grass is overcolors or yellowish most of times
    - HDR images with sky grass and subjects - too much over colored and artificial like cheap Samsung phones
    - Yellow tones on faces
    - Ultra Low light photos loses color information
    - Night mode is good, with a 30 sec shutter. But still not as par as pixel phones.
But when it comes to photos, Pixel photos are very consistent and the algo is incredibly intelligent.
PS - I compared my 3 year old Pixel with the latest iPhone and many photos still look better on Pixel

Pixel vs iPhone comes down to personal preferences. Some people and most photographers tend to take photos as they see - that is why a very important component of professional photographers is post-snap corrections where they try to bring out the actual scene as it met the eye from the RAW photos. What Pixel does is what we would like to see or basically the "ideal" situation which is sometimes far from reality. With the iPhone, one would almost at all times take photos as it meets the eye.
Also, he isn't biased towards the iPhone - it's just a photographer's perspective and is definitely on point. The point of photography is to capture what you are perceiving not what you might have perceived if everything was ideal.

iPhone is hands down the best device if you are a video blogger, or if you like to take videos.

@@taxitrekking for the main lenses yes. But you can't compete with a camera that has the ability to switch focal lens and that doesn't need algorithm for the photo to look good. If companies are still making thousand euros camera gear, there is a reason for it. For me, smartphone will improve a lot, and become better than entry level cameras and maybe even mid range in the long term. But for the more expensive cameras, they can't do better, especially in video, where there is still a giant gap (because applying algorithm to video requires much more power from the phone).

    • @taxitrekking
      @taxitrekking 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @alanbio

    Thanks for the nice comparison!
I mostly shoot portrait with sony APSC cameras and the iPhone 13 pro Max is driving me crazy in a way that I'm always deleting photos right after I take them and loosing motivation to use it!
I can sum it up very simply: if the subject's face is the brightest thing in the photo, final result is very good and just like the preview, but if there's anything in the background brighter than the face, regardless of an outdoor sky or an indoor lamp, it tries to brighten the face without crushing the background and so creates a bluish/magenta cloud over the face and the whole image, and still after you open the recent shot, it blinks and applies this extra pinkish post brightening on the face and almost adding a fake ring light illumination in the eyes. Skin tones always have pink tones with bumped up brilliance and reduced highlights.
This effect was slightly applied on your face at 4:29, in an attempt to cover any possible overexposed highlights, making it look like you have make up on! In photos the effect is much more aggressive.
ProRaw does not retain sensor information but only data from the stacked layers used to bake the final jpeg and so highlights can never be recovered because color texture is gone.
Telephoto camera is a joke, a bright indoor light is enough to produce useless images and night mode makes the skin plasticky and overprocessed and the white balance changes drastically.
I rarelly get real and beautiful and natural skin tones! Maybe this phone might be good for general photography! I really miss how my old and cheap Pixel 3a handled skin tones and texture in basically any lighting condition and challenging situation.

No offense but saying the iphone is better just out of convenience defeats the purpose of you being a photographer in the first place. Just my opinion, but as a photographer, more control of your shots = better. I have no idea how in the world you came to the conclusion that iphone is better because it produces 1 option for a photo, rather than the pixel being able to not only change, but replicate the iphone.

My my self as photographer and videographer freelancer, i like the hdr on pixel but i dont like how pixel artificially brightens part they dont need to, and i dont like how the iphone somtimes over saturated the colors, but is actually simple fix on both phones, just adjust the shadows and the colors on editing apps like lr, dr, etc and youll be fine with both phones, thats why i sometimes take photos on raw format (which both phones are capable to do it) to save and balancing the highlight and the shadows, but i do prefer the iphone cs is more all rounded, great for both photos and videos which for the videos till now i never find android that takes better videos than the iphone even the pixel, and faster shutter speed when taking photos is important for me, pixel takes lil bit longer maybe bcs of the processing (ai). And last, as a content creator of course i really loves how social media is optimized for the ios, yes the android been catching up but still the ios is superior in term of social media (i use mostly instagram especially stories). Its annoyed me how good the camera hardware on the android and after long hours of editing content once you post it its washed away the quality.

Best way to understand that is if the iphone had taken those brilliant shots with those colors on those cows fur or the dynamic range on the window shot , you would have gone head over heals on how superior the iphone was ... Should have done a blind comparison first rather than going in unblind which you clearly did and hence chose the iphone in frankly way better looking shots on the pixel*

I am so incredibly disappointed in the camera on the P6 pro.
It creates raw files but it first oversharpens the raws and it bumps up the much mid tone contrast (so not raw).
The image often looks better before it processes the photo as far as a raw image goes. Then it permanently overwrites it with the pverprocessed photo and I queitly rage.
I also hate when it uses her to flatten people's faces when they are backlit.
    F-ing garbage.
I do love the new music program in the last update.
I prefered the images I got out of my pixel 2
They need to stop creating base images that look like an amateur edited them in Lightroom. We can always add crappy looking her effects reduce overall contrast while cranking arity and sharpness afterwards, or allow me to remove sharpness, HDR, and mid range contrast in the edit menu. Or just give me an actual raw file. I don't care if it's noisy.
