Makes perfect sense, I have Battery tenders on all my motorcycles that work great.

I don't know if you checked this already but sometimes dealers put After marked GPS units in vehicle's for recovery purposes that can drain if you don't start it for a while. the other thing you should check is to make sure your upfitter switches are not shorted, pull all the fuses and relays and see if it goes away.

@thecommander2616 you might be right, they mention lojack that I declined. I will check the upfitter switches, I don'thhave any accessories tied to them so pulling the fuses won't interefere.

Good call, you will eventually move the plug to the passenger wheel well when you get tired of opening the hood every day. There is a bracket on the frame by the brake line that has an open square notch to mount to with a zip tie. Ask me how I know lol. Its a shame but it is what it is.

I had suggested this the other day and expect you've had it in the back of your mind for a while now to install one anyway, basically having to resort to a battery tender to deal with the battery drain issue that far too many vehicles for the last quite a few years have randomly struggled with, never was a problem back in the day before they had come up with the idea of putting a computer on wheels. There is a reason why battery tenders have become so popular "unfortunately" !. The battery outlet I have mostly been buying batteries from that supply a pile of batteries for highway tractors as well as personal vehicles and the small motor sports batteries, they handle the Noco line of tenders and their suggestion was a 2 or 3 amp unit for a single battery vehicle at minimum and going with the 5 amp unit for a two battery truck to have the power to charge/maintain two batteries. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and after the truck has been sitting for a few days with the tender plugged in, to check your voltage reading with a multi meter as its still plugged in. The Noco 5 I have here hooked to a two battery pickup reads around 13.2 volts on my meter and that truck sits for at least 6 months ( all winter ) plugged in like that for the last three years and its kept the batteries perfectly serviceable as otherwise they would have been toast ... and replacing 2 batteries like that are NOT cheap.

@@automotiveinquiries9673 If you think of it give us all a video update after you have had some months of use of the unit to see how its performing. Sadly Ford hasn't been stepping up to the plate to deal with the issue and I expect most other manufactures would do all they can to slough it off as well, that is the sad reality as profit always trumps customer satisfaction in this day and age.

I think this is a good fix to your problem. I didn't realize you didn't drive your vehicle for 5 days at a time. There is a lot of parasitic drag on new vehicles. One thing to think about, which, you probably did already, but turn off the OTA updates or reduce it down to just once a week that may be where your loss is going.

Hopefully this works for you. I went with the dual battery like you suggested. I keep mine on a Ctek charger. If I don't plug it in for a few days I find it takes a bit to get back up to charge. The days of batteries lasting 7 or 8 years are long gone.

    • @charlesb4267

Speaking of batteries lasting, I have an old 1986 Ford 3/4 4x4 on the farm ( with the 300 inline six ) and so no electronics period and I felt I should replace the battery this year as it was marginal, so I look in my record book for the truck and the last time I changed the battery was in 2002 a Delphi brand battery in this instance and so it lasted for over 22 years and was still actually functional, contrast that to current day with some of these lovely EV vehicles that have their battery fail in a few years time and the battery cost as much as the new vehicle to replace it ... uh yes, progress !

Dude you paid 80k for a truck. This is unacceptable I work for ford and you need to either try a different dealer and call fords customer relations line. Escalate the problem to the top and they will help you

@ throw a fit and explain to the them situation and that you have it documented on TH-cam as well. You might even get a extended warranty and some oil changes or something. Had a buddy get his payment paid for 3 months and a rental and 3 oil changes for this Ecoboost timing chains the dealer gave him fits about

Any ford dealer has to help you not just the selling dealer. Stop farting around with this and get them to fix it. Test the voltage with the dealer, leave it on the lot for 4-5 days and test the voltage again. There is a problem or not. Mounting a battery maintainer is nuts.

It’s the fuse box. It’s also a control module and it is bad. Any decent dealership should be able to fix it

I think I remember you suggesting this and I asked them to check it on the last trip in and they said, "we can't find any issue with them" I agree they should be able to stop it, I know several other owners that don't have the issue.

@ my oldest son is over a fleet of trucks and I mentioned it to him and he said without a doubt that is the problem. He has had to change 6 of the 32 super duty’s they run. Pretty good trucks other than that and windshield wiper motors on the f150’s

How have you been monitoring the battery drain? I have the same truck and been out of town for a couple weeks. I just noticed through the FordPass app that I can’t monitor it because it went into a battery save mode. The app recommending driving the vehicle to take it out of that mode

You should trade it for a ltz with the diesel probably cost about the same and you won’t have to work on it.

MAKE SURE YOU RUN EXTENSION CORD TO WHERE YOU WILL 100% SEE IT, AFTER A WEEK OF SITTING.. SO YOU WONT DRIVE OFF AND RIP CORD OUT OF SOCKET OR OFF THE BATTERY TENDER!!! (or the wife or kid)
