      Yep. I grew up in the beautiful, low tech 1970's just outside of Detroit city limits and absolutely loved watching Big Time Wrestling on TV. BoBo Brazil with his famous "cocoa butt" head slam move. The Mighty Igor with his outlandish manager Eddie Creachman were my favorites back then.

    I saw the Giant in 1980 from just a few feet away at the Cincinnati Gardens and it was amazing how big he was. He grabbed his opponent ( I don't remember who) by his ankle and dangled him upside down like a guy holding a squirrel by the tail. There was no way to fake it , it took massive strength to hold a man up with one arm that way . I'm sure his opponent was at least 200 to 225 lbs . I don't think anyone else could have done it. My brother in law said it was the most impressive feat of strength he'd ever witnessed

    • @EdsterIII
      @EdsterIII ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Andre the Giant was a incredible force of nature. He could and usually always dwarfed anyone he faced. I got to see him during a wwf show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A few different times actually. Once he fought Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the next he faced Jake the Snake Roberts. I remember looking at this man. His fingers were almost the size of a kids arm. He was just insanely huge! He was unbelievably gentle though. He always worried about his opponents unless they pissed him off. Then WATCH OUT! Andre was/is the biggest draw literally and figuratively in pro wrestling.

    • @PlayerToBeNamedLater1973
      @PlayerToBeNamedLater1973 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@EdsterIII yeah I thought my brother in law was big at 6'5" and probably 220 lbs until I saw that guy. I remember him putting a foot up on the ring rope just in front of me and his boot sole looked like it was long as my leg. Even his hair was huge ! He looked like a tree that came to life and walked in the building.

      Perhaps a man who shared similar natural strength was the legendary basketball player wilt chamberlain who became great friends with the Giant on the film set off Conan, they both took turns on picking up the 260 IIbs Arnold Schwarzenegger with one arm.....
      What's also interesting about that time was the generous to a fault Giant payed for the meals whenever the three of the went out....Wilt understood that he would hurt his new friend if he refused....so he accepted this situation....Wilt often did the same during his career, supplying tickets or once for a year paying for meals for a beach volleyball team of players he played with....without telling them...letting them think it was the manager of the place who liked volleyball.....
      Everyone who understands wrestling sees the Giant as the one at the top....everyone who saw Wilt Chamberlain at his peak, never considered anyone was better.....

Whch is why I loved a babyfaced Bobo and despised his nemis, the dreaded and dreadful Sheik. I can still hear Bobo saying "Sheik, when I get you in the rang" (that's how he pronounced it.)
