One time my friend made me lose my ice power up. He had a non shakable controller. So I picked him up he said "Thanks for the lift". I said "THIS IS MY REVENGE" and threw him into a bottomless pit. He was mad. My brother, cousin, and I were laughing
+BizerkPixel It's just that that the Wii U game is better. I mean, both have perfect gameplay, but what stick out in the U game are the gorgeous visuals. The Wii game is way too bland when compared.
***** Lemme guess. You don't like it. While I know that the "new" moniker has been shoved down our throats over the years, this game was actually truly new at the time. Think about it. There hasn't been a 2D Mario platformer on a console since Mario World, and I honestly felt that this game was definitely a step in the right direction. It has that Mario charm, and all those platforming gimmicks Mario has accumulated over the years. The powerups weren't half bad either. Does that justify the "new" games after it? No. Even if each game gets better in level design, there's no doubt that so much more could have been done. My point is that the game, at least when it was released, was solid. The level design was classic, and the star coins and secret exits were always a blast to find and I simply love Mario's movement in this game. But that's just my opinion of course, and if you don't agree to the point of laughing at my opinion then cool. That's just my two cents.
***** Nah man it's cool. If that last comment wasn't proof enough, I get into long tangents as well. You essentially explained why I think it's underrated. It's overshadowed by the newer games which is expected, but now it's also tarnished by being a part of the "New" series, which today is not looked at positively at least from everything I gathered from TH-cam videos and comments over the years. That's why I get the "underrated" impression. I mean, I know reviewers have given it positive scores and whatnot, but again, over the years, I felt that the game definitely hasn't been talked about much. Then again, it has been 7 years..... holy shit really?
I can't believe this is over 5 years old. I remember when it was first uploaded.. John's been my favorite person on TH-cam since I was in like 6th grade, (I'm in college now.) Definitely a lot of great memories watching his videos...he's kinda like a piece of my childhood. He's a huge inspiration and I've always hoped his channels (including BSC) would become really big. I love this man, and I wish him the best.
This game brings families together!? Hehehehehehehee... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! *nearly dies of laughter* No...It doesn't...This game tests bonds between family and friends as much as Mario party games.
I think it's really fun with 4 players (well I was playing NSMBU, but I assume the experience is on the same level for this game). It is pretty difficult, but I actually like the challenge it brings. I have to think differently about how I play the game to make sure everyone gets through all right, and I myself don't get killed a lot. I like carrying a friend around while they do the fire-ball shooting, or everyone trying to jump on each other to give a boost up to a star coin. And sometimes I just like to screw over the others.
I totally forgot you guys reviewed this game! I'm only 14 reviews into my marathon, and I'm basically seeing some of your reviews as if it's the first time. 2010 here I come.
Johnny and Elliot were right about the whole "Multiplayer Mayhem!" thing. After my older sister got me a Wii Remote Plus, I offered her a chance to try 2 player mode. We had a bit of a hard time with Bowser's Castle due to multiple times dying. Had to hit the green Mushroom House quite a bit to build up lives for Luigi. My sister was using Mario while I used Luigi. First time around I ended up hitting the switch on my own since Mario was still in a bubble when it happened. Second time around we both made it.
Nobody seems to point out that one huge loophole when Peach is captured in that cake. They obviously used a hole in the bottom to put her in the cake, but if they are carrying the cake above the ground, then she could just fall out of the hole in the bottom of the cake and get away.
Nothing has ever happened to me and my friends\family when playing the multiplayer in this game, but I did do that to my sister in 7:38,I was dying from laughter . I love the multiplayer. It's just amazing. It just shows that the Wii can be a multiplayer console
+Chase's Channel You're actually wrong, if players would just go through each other it wouldn't be fun, and you wouldn't be able to pull of some cool jumping tricks, like bouncing off each others head (Come on people it's not always a bad thing)
When I say go through, I don;t mean zero interaction whatsoever. You could still fight enemies together and preform jump-tricks, and even a broup groundpound.
I used to speedrun 9-7 in a casual way. It was so hard for me at first so I instead formulated a specific route after each try to ensure myself that I would get it beaten. But since I liked doing it so much I started beating it over and over again. Now I suck at it again.
I like to find loopholes in cutscenes and movies since I enjoy making short films which I have on my secondary channel. But, honestly I didn't even need to look to find such an obvious loophole in Peach being captured in a cake.
That funny as hell voice from his older reviews needs to come back you know the one that went NOSTOLGIA! Its funny as hell and I wish he had kept it in his reviews. :(
I believe after they make all those episodic releases, they'll compile the episodes together, fix what's broken and then put it on disc. That's what they should do anyway.
Sometimes I wonder how Nintendo thought of this. An Italian plumber who eats mushrooms and can grow and shrink all at once, and also eats flowers and throws fireballs. Hmmm...
welcome back SGB! your review of the new super mario bros. kicked ass! I REALLY wanted this game when I first heard about it, when I get a wii, I'm getting it! Johnny and elliot, you guys keep up the great work! And merry christmas! =D
"This game wasn't meant for more than 1 player"? I couldn't disagree more. The game feels very boring and barren with 1 player, bearable and slightly fun with 2 players, very fun and mildly crazy with 3 players, and with 4 players it's definitely NOT IMPOSSIBLE. In fact, 4 player mode is extremely fun and chaotic.
I agree. 4 players is more fun than 3 players, 2 and even single player. Still, I had to play 3 players because i didnt had a fourth player, but I still agree with you
1 player is only a thing I play when I want to get star coins to unlock more stages, or secret exits, so that I can have more things to do with my friends. I also grind for lives and power ups. 2 players is good for getting extra hard-to-reach platforms and coins, and is still fun. This is what I play to beat the majority of levels, so I can revisit them with more friends later. You can still communicate with the other player, and cooperation is easy. 3 players is when it starts to get cramped and chaotic, but really fun. The shouting begins to pick up here. Sometimes it happens in 2 player after some serious failure (my brother beat Ludwig and fell off the platform before he could get the key), but not much else. 4 players is where it's at. Often, to have four players, you'd be at a party or something, and even more people are watching in the background. Teamwork only exists in select circumstances, and there is always THAT guy who throws everyone into pits. Innocent lives are lost. Friendships are broken. Confidence in the ability to perform simple tasks is lost. And it is hilarious and awesome.
I think the reason they are more lenient with 1ups is because lives are beginning to be thought of as an outdated concept, and they are really only being kept in for tradition's sake.
The way to complete this game with 4-players is to play with friends who listen to the best player out of the 4(who should be player 1 ,& play with friends who actually know how ,or just learned how to play.
Good Review Guys. This Game is Awesome, And some of the music was really good like the Lava Overworld, And the new Power-ups like the Propeller Suit, the Ice Flower, the Peguin Suit are really useful, And i do agree that the Blue and Yellow Toads was a poor choice for Multiplayer Characters, so they should've made Wario and a Regular Toad playable instead.
I'm glad to see that star coins are useful. The DS version was fun, but the star coins were nothing useful, but to buy new bottom screen themes. The Wii version lets you unlock the special levels with the star coins!
...The cake...WAS A LIE! XD Another great review by the super awesome gaming brothers X3 Nicely done, along with the hilarious multiplayer bit between you and Elliot XDDD

I like to think that this game has reached "underrated" status nowadays. It's absolutely a wonderful game.
+BizerkPixel It's just that that the Wii U game is better. I mean, both have perfect gameplay, but what stick out in the U game are the gorgeous visuals. The Wii game is way too bland when compared.
Kênio Bastos that's a fair point
+Kênio Bastos This is how it's supposed to be. Every new game is better, than the previous one.
***** Lemme guess. You don't like it.

@SolarisParadox
I...can't explain that. I also set the video to private until it was finished processing. How are you seeing at all?
yep
When Johnny talked about putting a red M&M in a bowl of rice, I was eating a Rice Krispies bar that had M&Ms in it.
A bit of a cold, nothing more.
Yea i was going to ask
You know, Johnny. I actually got this game from a family member a few months ago and last night, I finally beat it!
THIS IS 10 YEARS OLD WTF?!
Was just going to say that puberty hit Elliot like a truck lol
I can't believe this is over 5 years old. I remember when it was first uploaded.. John's been my favorite person on TH-cam since I was in like 6th grade, (I'm in college now.) MTdaBlacking man, 3 years ago was a dark time...
I read that laugh like eggman did in the Sonic OVA
Dang bro I’m still here after 10 years
God, this game is so incredibly nostalgic for me... has it really been 8 years?
Multiplayer, chaotic but not impossible, you want proof? The runaway guys
Exactly. Not impossible, but chaotic indeed.
I think it's really fun with 4 players (well I was playing NSMBU, but I assume the experience is on the same level for this game). It is pretty difficult, but I actually like the challenge it brings. Was Elliot sick during December if 2009? He sounds kind of stuffy there.
This video is 6 years old. Wow
Now 8.
Now almost 10
This comment is 3 years old. Wow.
@@waddle_real4566 4
Waiting 2 more years to tell you that ur comment is 6 years old
I wish I could time travel and go back to this era
Same:(
Same, I remember playing this when it first came out in 2009 when I was 5.
Cant wait for this to get the vs treatment
I absolutely love this game. One my favorite Mario games to date.
Omar Elmosrati Eh, I prefer NSMBU. This game is still great however.
NSMBU is great too. But this game, so many fun times with it.
***** It's actually a bit underrated imo, everybody says the "NSMB series died after the first one". lolno
***** Why is that?
***** Yeeeahh, I guess you don't like much 2d Mario sidescrollers.
I live Johns older videos, not that the new ones are bad it's just that these are hilarious and have their own kind of.special charm
"STOP MOVING TO FAST!"
"I DON'T WANT TO!"
Oh, you guys :D
"Your witchy powers always win!" -Elliot
Been on TH-cam since 2006 Johnny, never enjoyed watching videos as much until I subbed to your channel. Keep up the good work mate.
0:01 you got to love these family moment.
Who wants a SGB review reboot?! Who's with me!
It's called Johnny Vs.

This was my first Mario game, and it’s still my favorite 2D Mario game.
happy 15th anniversary new super mario bros.!!! :3
Love the comment about how the enemies may view Mario riding Yoshi. Good stuff.
Did you know that there is an easter on which if you collect 99 lives, you can lose Mario's cap?
I saw that too, Mario Carries 1-ups in his hat!
who is watching this 6 years since it was uploaded?
ME
Brandon Sinnott My dude it is seven years for me
Brandon Sinnott more like 8 years
8 years fam
10 years
Apparently the Toads names are Ala-Gold and Buckenberry
Most people don't know that the ice flower came from partners in time... or maybe you did
Can't wait to see the inevitable Vs. Review, ideally as part of a NSMB video or marathon.

You can't bring Yoshi with you because there's a castle at the end of each level.
Nobody seems to point out that one huge loophole when Peach is captured in that cake. They obviously used a hole in the bottom to put her in the cake, but if they are carrying the cake above the ground, then she could just fall out of the hole in the bottom of the cake and get away.

man this game is 10 years old
If players could walk through eachother and the ability to pick up and throw eachother was gone, then multiplayer would be amazing.
That would make the game feel cheap and we will blame the developers for being lazy for not adding collision detection for characters.
Ok. Have fun accidentally throwing eachother off cliffs.
Whatever, we all have different Preferences, but the character collision detection supply's a good laugh for everyone.
+Chase's Channel You're actually wrong, if players would just go through each other it wouldn't be fun, and you wouldn't be able to pull of some cool jumping tricks, like bouncing off each others head (Come on people it's not always a bad thing)

Awesome way to start the review Elliot. To bad he won't be co reviewing very often anymore
You can share the Starman if the star'd person picks up a char.
IKR? My brothers and sister do that a lot to share star mans, it's awesome sharing the star man!
8:59-9:01 Johnny predicted New super Mario bros u deluxe
He also predicted Super Mario 3D All-Stars in his Super Mario World video.
That funny as hell voice from his older reviews needs to come back you know the one that went NOSTOLGIA! Its funny as hell and I wish he had kept it in his reviews.
:(
I remember back when this game was near-universally loved, before New Super Mario Bros became the poster boy of stagnant franchises.
I believe after they make all those episodic releases, they'll compile the episodes together, fix what's broken and then put it on disc. That's what they should do anyway.
52 people found a red M&M in a bowl of rice.
Elliot constantly sounds like he has nasal congestion.
I think 3 players has the most laughter and seriousness. Minus the seriousness for the sgb lp
Elliot sounds like he's congested
Jacob Edelin He sounds like a fucking 8 year old that is filled with snot
I LOLed the bowser fight there. That was friggin' hilarious. But the game looks good, I may just have to get it.
Wow, I've had this game since it first came out and I didn't even know you could use the nunchuck.
Awesome review. I was wondering what game I was going to get for the Wii first come Christmas time.
YA-HA!!!
Sometimes I wonder how Nintendo thought of this. An Italian plumber who eats mushrooms and can grow and shrink all at once, and also eats flowers and throws fireballs. Hmmm...
Eliot: "What about Super Mario Land and the Gameboy Advance por-."
Johnny: "CONSOLE MARIO GAMES!!!!"
still gets me every time LAMO
9:00 new prefect prediction for Mario maker 2!
3:54 NOSTALGIA
6:16 JOHNY AND ELLIOT'S Multiplayer Mayhem
i liked your multiplayer madness in this game. i can't wait until i see another one for Donkey Kong Country Returns!
a few months ago, three of my friends and myself took acid and spent the entire night clearing the game 100%. dear god was it a blast.
I remember the multiplayer was way too chaotic for me and my nephew. It got so bad that we haven't even touched the game in years.
Dr. Earthworm Robotnik i have hundreds of games i haven't touched in years.... i thought that was normal
This game is an amazing co op experience
yay! new review, new camera, new outro equals AWESOME! question, did you guys go see avatar?
welcome back SGB! your review of the new super mario bros. kicked ass!
I REALLY wanted this game when I first heard about it, when I get a wii, I'm getting it!
Johnny and elliot, you guys keep up the great work! And merry christmas! =D
I still can't get over how amazing the WiiU is. It may be a bit gimmicky, but it's way, WAY better than I thought it would be.
The spin jump actually can shoot your projectiles(Fireballs,Ice) in all directions cool.
"Trying to beat the game with 4 players is downright impossible."
The Runaway guys did it, with lots of lulz.
love to see u try to do a lets play of this on sgb lol
scott robinson jr they already have 😂
You should've used a "thank you mario but our princess is in another castle" picture for THE toad.
7:45 HAHA that is the best! Didn't know you could kill the other player like that.
i love how Johnny had like 60 lives and Elliot had only 1
Here's a recomendation: Play the last level from the checkpoint with a Propeller Suit. Makes it a hell of a lot easier.
Great review guys! I wonder what level 9-7is like...
The two Toads that are playable characters were given the names Buck n' Berry (Blue) and Ala' Gold (Yellow) by the developers
"My brothers like to be assholes" but I'm innocent..
Love that last multiplayer mayhem moment. XD
I've never played his game, but I have played the New Super Mario Bros. games for the DS and Wii U of which I am a really big fan of the latter.
to me the modern kids don't know what true gaming is, until they play the classics
"This game wasn't meant for more than 1 player"? I couldn't disagree more. i have so many memories with my friends. final battle with four players anyone?
@★ Froggie Animation ★ Wrong. The DS has better level design for 1 player.
I think the reason they are more lenient with 1ups is because lives are beginning to be thought of as an outdated concept, and they are really only being kept in for tradition's sake.
Johnny and Elliot's Multiplaying MAY-HAAAAAAM!
The way to complete this game with 4-players is to play with friends who listen to the best player out of the 4(who should be player 1 ,& play with friends who actually know how ,or just learned how to play.

It would've been cool if you did a playthrough of this game. I wonder what it would be like.
Eliot sounds he needs a sneeze 😂
JOHNNY AND ELLIOT'S MULTIPLAYER MAYHEEEEEM.
I'm glad to see that star coins are useful. The DS version was fun, but the star coins were nothing useful, but to buy new bottom screen themes. The Wii version lets you unlock the special levels with the star coins!
This game was my childhood
...The cake...WAS A LIE! XD
Another great review by the super awesome gaming brothers X3 Nicely done, along with the hilarious multiplayer bit between you and Elliot XDDD
I have such good memorys playing this game first video game i ever played on a consle NOSTIALLGA
N O S T I A L L G A
Its pretty funny when you rescue a Toad while playing as the Blue or Yellow Toad
This was my first display of Elliot's Mario skills, so I was surprised to see how bad he was until New super Mario bros U.
What about Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are you going to review those games.
Pressing (2) in this game makes Mario jump? GEEZ WE WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED.
He predicted Toadette in future new super Mario bros game wtf
im getting this game and a wii today! awesome review
are you ever going to do this for your lets play channel because i think it would be awsome
I have alot of fond memories playing this game with one of my cousins.

What’s with the red flash?
This game is awesome, easily my 2nd favorite 2D Mario game beaten by NSMB DS.
I just got the game for Christmas and WOW, can things be chaotic, especially with casual players just learning to play.
Please let us have a Johnny and Elliott multiplayer mayhem let’s play
