It became wildly popular. Famous Russian singer Feodor Chaliapin changed the lyrics somewhat and included it in his repertoire.
Been listening to more wonderful versions of this song but have to keep coming back to the best I can find . The quality and mix of voice instrumentation and groove are incomparable.

I will suggest this to my partner in crime and see what he thinks. Funny.. it's all about inspiration. Hearing a tune performed by inspiring people like you can change ones perspective.
