  • There are many misconceptions about Sune and those who worship her. Sunites are often seen as aesthetes and hedonists, but Sune teaches more than appearances and enjoying every pleasures in life on Faerûn.
    Here, a (male) priest of Sune shares how the church of Sune works, the life of Sune's priesthood, and how Sune lets you live your adventuring life to the fullness.
    And as always, follow the holy words of Oghma - "Like, Share, Subscribe."

      I played a Heartwarder revolutionary during 3.5 that stated rejection of Half Orcs and other ugly races on the grounds of physical appearance goes straight against the precept of "share love with every creature", and started openly preaching the good of sune to everybody that wasn't undead or an extra planar manifestation of evil.
      It resulted in a boom and Sunites becoming one of the most important religions of the Realms, since God power increases through prayer, Sune was uncomfortable with the deal but still got through it, she appeared to my cleric to convince him to desist and I ended up convincing her that, to defend all that is beautiful in the world, only a handful of people won't do, and that she needed more power to be able to defend Sharess and oppose the cult of Shar and Talos effectively.
      I absolutely adore playing Clerics.

    I’m currently playing a cleric of Sune who is a lovely noble girl from a notorious family that worships Lazhander. I play her as a relatively shy girl when it comes to more carnal inclinations but a very generous loving girl that wants to make everyone happy and loved.

    I allow my PC's to pass notes under the table for a secret action he/she wants to attempt. If it's an action that requires a roll, allow them to act like they're just fumbling around his or her dice. If they get caught, their bad & they're immediately found out. Pay attention to the roll from the supposed fumble to see if the action succeeds or not. Players, bring this up to your DM's. It's really fun & useful when running Neutral to Evil PC's. Some good PC's may even actually want to perform secret actions. Like Batman, for example. I also enjoy the D20 system Modern Role-playing game. It's 3.5 D&D in the modern world. I actually have a Sun Soul Monk/Cleric of Sune who focuses on reclaiming lost beauty. Diamond came to Sune's service towards the end of her time at the Quivering Ass Monastery, where the arts of striptease and Kung Fu are taught side by side. By that time she was scarred from years of martial arts training but she still yearned to serve Sune. Sune responded to Diamond's prayers by transforming her scars into lines of gold(the inspiration for this is the art of Japanese kintsugi) and charged her to spend her life inspiring others that all is not lost because of scars or deformity, that beauty may be reclaimed. Whenever Diamond receives a new wound that will scar she rubs a mix of gold dust and healing herbs into it and then prays to Sune to gaze upon her act of reclaiming beauty.

    Great video! But just as a bit of an anal retentive nitpick on my part. Her name is pronounced as "Soon-nae", for YEARS I mispronounced her name, too. I used pronounced Sune as though it rhymed with the word "rune". But in the end, wound up discovering years later that her name is pronounced as "Soon-nae". She's a really fun goddess to utilize (and is often just relegated to being nothing more than a simple Aphrodite figure), I mean, she is one of Shar's rivals, and it's a charge by Sune to her bards, fighters, and paladins to travel and aid traveling good clergy and/or adventurers. So, while yes, she is the Forgotten Realms' Aphrodite figure, she's actually kind of a badass, which unfortunately doesn't get recognized.

    • @ForgottenRealmsHistory
      @ForgottenRealmsHistory  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, the Goddess is not like her Clergy, and her worshipers are far more diverse. However, a cleric of Sune would not make a great adventurer. The need to keep up appearances and never gain a scar is something I think is more fitting for a noble character or rich merchants offspring.

    • @Apillis124
      @Apillis124 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the double "ee" for the pronunciation is done as a long A sound, much in the same way one would pronounce the feminine form of protegee. I don't know why they had it written in it like that, because it causes confusion--it's weird. Eilistraee's own awkward pronunciation causes a lot of confusion as well for much the same reasoning as they change up the pronunciations of their own lettering so there's no real consistency within each pantheon.

    • @ForgottenRealmsHistory
      @ForgottenRealmsHistory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You pronounce the double ee in protegee because it's not a double ee, its protégée, from the French pronunciation. Double EE in American English is pronounced as the phonetic character /i:/ , or the ee sound in FLEECE.

    Thanks for doing this video but I take exception to a flagrant misrepresentation about "physical beauty" the bit about scars and disfigurement is completely wrong as are other misconceptions. The Temple of Sune is about truth and beauty, not superficiality. The mission of The Church of Sune is to ensure that "all mortals deserve the opportunity to experience beauty during their brief lives. The church goes about ensuring that this opportunity exists in two manners. The first is the support of artistic endeavors. This covers a wide variety of ventures including culinary arts, music, painting, sculpting and others. Clerics of Sune seek out exceptional artistic talent and provide them with monetary grants or help them become members of prestigious organizations.
    The second focus of the church is much more pragmatic. The church uses its vast monetary resources to support civilization in all its forms; for without cities, towns and roads, there would not be theaters, restaurants, art galleries and all of the other venues that allow for the appreciation of beauty. The church pays for the construction of roads, forts and caravansaries so that travel between cities is less dangerous." from M&BJoV
