    One thing we know for sure is that the treasure is real. Oda has told us before that as a kid he never liked stories that ended with 'The treasure was the friends you made on the journey' so he didn't want to do that to those reading his story. While friendship is definitely a huge part of the story of One Piece, it's not the treasure itself. That's pretty much everything we know about the One Piece though. Even now we have no idea. XD

      @@catchingupkate 100% I think the fact that Oda said that One Piece is a real treasure in the story is one of the factors why this story is still going strong. There is something real at the end, something that is going to affect the world of one piece. Something that one piece enjoyers have been looking forward for almost 3 decades. And what is crazy that Oda says that the story is about to be done in about 5 or so years.
      We have our theories, but we won't know until it is found.

    In the manga and anime, Shanks was able to repel the sea monster while half-submerged in the ocean and holding onto Luffy without a boat, so he clearly has some sort of ability, but it's not a Devil Fruit ability. The boat was most likely there because of the practical difficulties of filming in water.

    I love that a line as simple as "Be good Luffy," can carry so much emotional weight. I get tears almost every time I see that scene. I'm a dad, and seeing something that really shows what you hope will happen when you pass on wisdom to your children in such a simple line is so beautiful. And, because Luffy is good, we get to feel the impact of that scene very quickly. That relationship changed him forever. I really love this show.

    The scene where luffy is tied up, Jeff ward (buggy) did an interview where he talked about bloopers and Jeff said that Inaki kept repeating "Give me my hat. the seawater thing is more of a percent-based thing.
    it drains the strength of a devil fruit eater more and more the deeper they're immersed in it, which means they can't float or swim at all. it also means that the second they're out of the water, even if they're wet, they regain the majority of their strength.
    it's a magical curse, don't think about it too hard lol

    • @f.carasind4188
      @f.carasind4188 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In the manga and anime, any type of water weakens Devil Fruit users depending on how deep they are in it. But the live-action seems to be ramping up the effects of seawater even more, probably to increase the stakes without getting too violent. I'd bet they'll let regular water slide as a way to balance out these changes.

    I love that Coby's response to Garp's question about Luffy is 'he's a pirate. Pirates should face justice.' He basically said 'I won't do anything against Luffy if he hasn't done anything wrong', just in a way that isn't insubordinate to his superior officer, and I think Garp recognized that too. Coby's already learning to play the game, and Garp appreciates that in him.
    Also, yes, in the original manga and anime, Shanks basically scares off the monster with sheer intimidation, and he was submerged in water when he did it, so it's DEFINITELY not a devil fruit power. They kinda overdid it with the effects here, but it was essentially just raw badassery making the sea beast recognize him as the more dangerous predator in the situation.

    The sea serpent is known as a Neptunian, or "Sea King" in more common vernacular. A fun fact, the “different kind of pirate” is a subtle reference to the precursors of One Piece, Romance Dawn Version 1 and Romance Dawn Version 2, prototype stories Eiichiro Oda wrote before starting One Piece(which the first arc of One Piece, and the first episode of this show, are named after). In Romance Dawn, there are two types of pirates. The typical plundering and pillaging type everyone is familiar with, which is called Morgania. Then there’s the more peaceful, freedom-loving adventurer type that Luffy embodies, called Peace Mains. This is something I kinda wish Oda kept in One Piece, because it was an interesting dichotomy of piracy. But I understand why he didn’t keep it, because it’s not as black and white as that in One Piece. Even so, he still could’ve kept the concept and just had some pirates blur the lines between the two.

    • @catchingupkate
      @catchingupkate  หลายเดือนก่อน

    To be completely fair to the bad vs good in-universe discourse between the marines and pirates, we've really only seen 1 (or 2 if you count the son) clearly corrupt marine so far, while any others were mostly just questionable at best or just doing their job, being lower in ranking than the corrupt marine. Even Garp taking the cadets to go after Luffy, whose pirate crew broke into, attacked, and stole from a Marine base, is technically still in the right for doing so (so, I can see why Koby is still with them even if he feels uneasy abt going after Luffy).
    Also atp, we've actually seen more clearly bad pirates than clearly bad marines too (Alvida and her crew killing/raiding a vessel ship and Buggy and his crew imprisoning and destroying a whole town).

    30:05 One thing you may want to consider watching at some point is a fan-made video called "The Breathtaking World of One Piece" which the fandom treats as a trailer to the series as a whole. It takes a selection of the scenery shots from 25 years of anime (and some movies/ovas/etc), puts them to various pieces of music, and provides as spoiler-free an experience as possible to seeing a huge amount of the islands and vistas that the series stars in. Of course, the fact you can see those places betrays that they exist and are something you can expect to see, but that's obviously an unavoidable given!

    Interesting cut you made when Luffy mentions Shanks and Zoro talks about him for a brief second.
    Zoro will recognize huge pirates before most of the rest of the crew does. Like this scene will be in season 2 he sees some random shirtless dude asking about have you seen Luffy?
    And Zoro will be like we have to stay away from that man and warn Luffy.
    Zoro is he one of your bounty hunter friends?
    No. He's Fire Fist Ace, Second commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. I don't know what he wants with Luffy but I wouldn't mess with one of Whitebeard's men.
    Later on same episode oh hello Ace, you ate a Devil Fruit? Yeah Luffy just run along with your friends I'll handle these Marines for you.
    Entire rest of the crew how do you know Fire First Ace one of the leaders of the greatest pirate crews ever?
    He's my older brother.

    One thing I must say before you actually do start the One Piece Manga/Anime is that although this Live Action Luffy is quite similar, he’s also a lot different from the actual Luffy from the Manga.
    The Actor is doing a great job and I don’t think they could’ve casted him any better but it’s more down to the script and storyline for him that has taken a different turn. He’s being portrayed as someone who ‘wants’ & ‘seeks’ to be Heroic, judging from the things he says like “I’m a different kind of Pirate” or inspiring Koby with words.
    The Luffy in the Manga inspires people with actions instead of words and doesn’t tell people whether he’s a good pirate or not, he lets them decide how they view him.
    Also a side note, the Luffy in the Manga is a lot stronger…I think that part comes down to the Actor not being able to pull off crazy stunts and also the Show not having the budget for all the stretching

    This is not just a you thing but I truly don’t understand why so many people new to this series assume the treasure is just “the friends we made along the way”. It’s a common assumption I see but I’ve never understood. That’s just so generic

    This first season (and probably the second and even third) won't be able to do justice to the scale of the story One Piece develops into. If you look at the state of the present story, then this first season is just part of the prologue: it introduces some basic characters and bits of the world while dressed in some simple but fun stories, but in the greater context, it is like a fart in the wind of an epic that can stand toe-to-toe with epics like Game of Thrones and the Wheel of Time. Shanks and the hat play a considerable role in the story, but it will take a long time for the story to get there. Don't expect any answers any time soon: Luffy is nowhere close to being a great pirate yet.

    Water does not take away the Devil Fruit powers; it weakens the user and renders them barely able to move. However, for that to work, the water must be knee-high or more, and no, rain does not affect Devil Fruit users.

    So the One Piece treasure is a physical. Oda confirmed that. 1100 chapters into the manga, and we are only now getting close, but WOW are we close. I could give you aspects of the treasure based on what I know, but telling you those aspects would spoil you. I hope you continue to enjoy the series.

    Just to clarify, yes, Shanks has an “ability”, as you saw, but it’s *not* a devil fruit power. Anyone with a devil fruit power can’t swim, and in the anime and manga version of the scene with the sea monster, Shanks is actually holding Luffy in the water, not a boat, so he swam to rescue Luffy, which means it’s not a devil fruit power. What it actually is, is kept a mystery in the anime and manga for literally hundreds of episodes, so don’t expect it to be answered for a few seasons a least.

    Almost every single reactor asking, if Luffy has any limits, of how far he can stretch... Of course, he has limits! Pretty vast limits, sure (Once, in the manga, he stretched his arms out for almost 5 kilometers, just to hit the opponent as hard as possible) but it's still limits.

    I see you have books behind you which makes me wonder... are you going to start reading the manga and give us your own opinions and views? Cause im all for it. If you already like the live action after 2 episodes you're going to love the manga. The East Blue saga (the stuff the live action covers) is considered by many the worst saga in One Piece, even though its very good. Its kinda like watching Lord of the Rings until the fellowship leaves Rivendell

      Yes, I plan on starting the manga after I finish the live action! I would love feedback on how people would like to see that content. I have a book channel I haven't used it awhile because I had started a new job. I love filming reading vlogs and sit down videos. I was going to keep this channel just for tv/movie reactions, but I don't want to annoy people having them go to a different channel when they just got here lol
