Same! Lane splitting is great, one of the top perks in a congested commute, but is it worth getting to where you're going a couple minutes faster by lane splitting 30+ faster than the cars are moving? Such a stupid decision, it's inevitable you're going to have problems doing that...
Lane splitting is awesome. But not at the speed some of these guys are doing it. Car drivers don't look for you when you're actually occupying a lane. Let alone when you're catching them fast asleep in a traffic jam.

As a new rider I ran out of fuel twice this season and I was rescued both times by other riders , this rider at the end of your video is a " dirty side down hero " .

@@johannesnagengast7643 No there isn't a fuel gauge on my bike because it is an older machine , both times I ran out of fuel was because I misjudged the distance I had left in my tank and I was nowhere near a gas station in the woods up north . Lol. Newbie mistake for me that won't happen again .
@@highenergyog at least you’d learned from it. Well what I do, I refill the gas and set the kilometers to 0. I know how far I get so I can plan beforehand when I have to go to the gas station. When I know I’m off the road I always take 4l of gas with me. But I never hab to use it.

You should get a harley... they have a control for the gas,,, which includes a "reserve" position ... so did ALL the other bikes i've owned ... 2-3 honda 450's , susuki 500 2 stroke . 67 triumph, and a 250 bennelli... and a hand full of 125's for dirt and trail... All 1960's something and now a 2006 harley 1200 "low"...edit, and my first bike? 49cc "peddle to start" moped, got it for my 12th b-day Dec, 6th 1963...

Just because you're on a bike doesn't mean she has to pull over and let you pass. BTTT is the real Karen.
She doesn't HAVE to no, but the courteous thing would be to allow people to have their fun while you have yours, if that means stopping from your 10-15 MPH jaunt for 30 seconds I'd say that's a pretty low cost of entry for everyone to be able to do their thing at their own pace. He was too aggressive about it, but if she had any common sense it would have never become and issue in the first place.
@@Jakesinmotion exactly! she was actually at a position to stop when moving 3 mph, but chose to accelerate and deny the opportunity. I was following her for a long time and didn't escalate until I could NOT handle the dust anymore.

you do realize with non aggresive tires and softer sand she really probably could not stop even on the flat spot as it would have been hard for her to get her momentum up again
Also when you went to go around her on the right at 1:04 you could have just gone around her on the left without her stoping there was time if you had set yourself up for it properly instaed of trying to go around on the right and expecting her to stop and let you you know where you said there was generous passing spot

When you have to focus on not hitting the guy in front of you and trying to not hit the car next to you last thing you’re expecting is an idiot lane splitting at full speed. What I have learned over the years of watching this channel is that, bikers think the road is entirely theirs and cars are the enemy. And that they do extremely dangerous things that can them killed or injured then get mad when they almost get killed or injured…

I dont really get BikeToTheTop, sure if she was nice she could easily let you go, but then again, you cant expect people to let you go just because you are on a bike.
The same thing would be that you are following a bus on a road, and there is a big line of cars behind the bus bc its going slow, if the bus driver is nice, he can let you go by getting into a bus stop (lets say there are no passengers getting off), but you cant expect him to get into a bus stop, just bc there is a line of cars behind them. Or just change out the bus to a combine harvester.
While offroading there’s a certain etiquette that you stop when room is available to help other people pass, including obviously faster folks behind you. Sure, during normal road riding i get your point. But that does not apply here.
Its a grey area and depends on the country and its laws, for example in Ireland you can fail your driving test and be pulled over and fined for driving too slowly. And iirc if you are a slow moving vehicle for example a tractor you are obligated to pull over and allow people to pass if there are more than three vehicles behind you.

It's common courtesy not to impede traffic in this country, but this is worse than that because one can't breathe dust. On many paved roads there are signs that say it is illegal to hold up a line of cars and instruct driver to use pullouts. In this case, it was on a dirt road where nobody else was and the speed is insignificant to start with, but the dust cloud is quite apparent. The dust cloud takes a long time to settle without wind. The driver obviously has no worries about dust when they're inside a car with the windows closed, but it's a different story on a motorcycle.

I always remember, in the late 70s, reading a sort of precis about bikers in BIKE magazine. I remember it to this day because at the time it was so accurate. It went.
"The biker comes in two types, There is the average nice type, won over to two wheels by Jap public relations. He Honda's in to the 80s with a fluorescent nylon over-suit, paddock jacket and flashy coloured leathers. The other is a suburban easy-rider, with annexed aspects of hippy culture, hippy braids, long unkempt hair and flared jeans. His tank, helmet and jacket done up with cranky psychedelia which goes well with his taste for heavy metal music. He don't give a shit about he weather, and is always able to give other motorcyclists a helping hand."
At that time I was definitely in the latter category, and although that paragraph's sentiments are utterly outdated, as are the 'two types' some of these traits, taken form each 'type' are still there in the bikers of today, the main one being the willingness to help other bikers - and that has never changed. Seeing the last clip in this selection reminded me of this passage from 44 years ago.
Bikers have always been, and always will be the best people.

You would figure in states/countries that allow bikes to filter, would create a path on either side (shoulder) for the bikes. A threat from one side is safer than going down the middle where there's a threat on both sides.
Queensland, a state in Australia allows you to ride on the shoulder/emergency lane On freeways when traffic is congested. I wish they would bring it in my state, it would be so much safer
Nokz when lane splitting it is up to you to ensure it is safe to doso when a car has their turn signal on and is going to change lanes than it is not safe for you to lane split past them just back off let them change lanes and then lane split past them
Riding way over the speed limit and complaining that cars didn't see you, that's the bike life !

Quit splitting lanes. It's not even legal in my state. It's just too damn dangerous. Happy Holidays to all you bikers, stay safe.
In of itself, splitting & filtering is less dangerous for bikers than being in slow/bumper to bumper traffic. The problems usually only happen when riders take advantage of it, which means riding too fast, swerving between cars, or simply not paying attention. I personally don't have any reason to lane split where I currently live, but I filter all the time.
@@originalgaige5619 If people can't handle the responsibility, it's too dangerous. The only reason why it was allowed in California was because many bikes need airflow passing through the radiator as they are not equipped with fans like cars are. So in the hot temperatures out in the bumper to bumper traffic, bikes were overheating leading to an increase in traffic congestion. Bikers too, were having issue with the heat. Take a look at accidents per rider capita between places that allow it and places that don't and there is no discernable difference in the number and severity of accidents.
@@joec2078 That's definitely not why it was legalized, or even allowed in the first place. Tons motorcycles have a fan behind the radiator that kicks on when engine temperatures hit a certain point. Mine kicks on around 220-225 if I remember correctly. Pretty much every bike that's liquid cooled has one, so even if you're in traffic your bike won't overheat. Also, splitting lanes has been a thing for a very, VERY long time in California. So the CHP helped write the guidelines for what you can and cannot do as of 2016. I think its like, no faster than 10 or 15mph over traffic, and they're not supposed to even do it if traffic is at 40mph or something close to it. Also, simply looking at accidents per capita (which is difficult to actually do because they focus on fatalities) doesn't provide data in either direction specifically to prove or disprove it, due to the multitude of variables that factor into accidents & the fact that California is the only state its legal in. So essentially with Cali being your "control" group, you have nothing else to compare it to as of right now. Especially considering most accidents don't even occur on the freeway but instead at intersections and usually involve another vehicle, and solo accidents which usually involve the rider laying the bike down in some fashion to avoid a larger crash. I wholeheartedly agree if a rider can't handle the responsibility, they shouldn't do it. But if that's the case, they shouldn't even be riding in the first place.
@@originalgaige5619 A few months back I recall reading a law site's article on lane splitting (since I've had multiple discussions on it and I make sure I get my facts straight first) and that article stated overheating bikes and riders as the primary reason. Also lane splitting was officially legalized in 2017. That's just 4 years ago. Not a very long time ago at all. Prior to that, it wasn't legal but bikers were doing it anyway. California isn't the only place in the world where lane splitting is legal. The data, even if it focuses on fatal accidents, absolutely is sufficient to prove or disprove and in this case it disproves that it has an impact on rider safety. Likely because it's replacing one situation with another. Replacing getting hit from behind with getting side swiped.
