    At 5:46 is it bad if you put back the O2 sensor back but the wires are left twisted? What happens if you leave them twisted

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there and thanks for the comment. If you just twist them in they could be ok, but it's not good practice as they will be under tension, the insulation on the wires will be tight, as they are twisted together, and the wires will be pulling at the top of the sensor, and the hot exhaust can't be good for those tight wires. I would think that over time there is a higher probability that you may get a short in the wire, or if you have to change it again the wire or insulation has a greater chance of breaking. I guess to answer you honestly its not good practice to do that, but if it's the 1st time it may be ok. But if its done again the chances of something breaking is higher as the wires are getting stretched with all that twisting. Hope I helped out and didn't make you more confused LOL :)

    Half a year ago I tried to remove the muffler but the bolts were stuck and wouldn't turn.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya they get all rusted up. It really helps if you soak them with penetrating fluid. Spray the night before (maybe twice, once per hour) and then let sit overnight. Also if you have a torch, even like one of those butane torches a little heat can help free everything up. Lastly if you have an impact (even a battery powered one) the jarring motion can free the bolts.

    Hi there, my 09 250 isn’t showing any 02 sensor codes but under heavy load, say I’m powering up a hill, the rotten egg smell is getting bad, I did put a cat converter treatment (rislone) in the tank to hopefully clean the cats, but to no avail.
    Did you have this problem too?
    Did you find the secondary cats to be the issue with regards to the smell?
    - I’m psyching up to replace the primary cat converters, as I’m thinking they might be my problem, but thought I’d ask your experiences first, as you’ve replaced your secondary cats, did the smell go away?
    do you think just replacing the flange gaskets might also help?
    I can’t hear any exhaust leaks in the system at all you see… I hope you don’t mind me asking your thoughts on this.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey There and no problem at all with asking. I didn't have any rotten egg smell so I'm thinking the smell you have might be related to the primary cats and not the secondary cats. On mine the primary cats were fully warmed up, and the secondary cats would not warm up (because of the exhaust leak) and there was no smell. Normally that rotten egg smell is caused by an excess of hydrogen sulfide. Simply put the car runs too rich, and unburnt fuel is getting by. This is common on a lot of cars when you gun it, because most cars are factory tuned to run rich at wide open throttle. You could have someone check your engine live data to make sure your fuel pressure/fuel trims are ok. These may not throw a code if they are not out of whack for long enough. Most mid range scanners will let you know the range each should be in. Your problem could be your cat is on the way out and can't process the excess fuel under load, or you engine is out of tune, or both. My guess would be the cat is nearing the end of their life. Lastly, keep in most vehicles will stink under load so yours may be normal depending on how hard you are pushing it.

  • @sagefairsoft
    @sagefairsoft ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice vid, how did you know that it wasn't the upstream cats that were the problem? I have a P0430 bank 2 code on my is350 and not a lot of money to second guess.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there and thanks for the comment. No second guessing for me, I knew it was the downstream cats.I also had the P0420 and P0430 so each side, and because the leak was right in front of the O2 sensor, the sensor was not getting hot enough to read properly. The only way to fix that leak was to replace the downstream cats as it comes as one unit. I would check to see if you have a leak in your exhaust system, if you DO NOT then it may be your upstream cats, as there is no way to measure the downstream cats (i.e. there is no O2 sensor after the downstream cat) so there is no way to tell if its bad (unless its plugged)

      Probably the bank cat. Mine started to go around 190k on my 350. Dealer just said you could wait, as it's just an efficiency loss. There's another video of a guy just doing his cat on an IS too. You can get a used one for around 300👍🏼

      Hi There, on the IS250, Bank 2 is the drivers side, and you have two (2) bank 2 convertors. One is near the engine, and the other is downstream. In this video I replaced bank 1 and bank 2 downstream catalytic convertors. Bank 1 and bank 2 upstream convertors are closer to the engine. Hope you are having a good weekend :)

    What size are the front bolts I can't find them anywhere?

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thanks for the comment, the front bolts are not Lexus specific, they are just standard bolts. I put the biggest ones that would fit into the hole. If I remember correctly they were metric 10mm. I can't remember if they were M10X1.5 or M10X1.25. Not that that will really matter for exhaust bolts.

      @GarageKing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @Hitmanjat
      @Hitmanjat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GarageKing do you think it’s needed? It seems like my exhaust hangers are sagging, causing it to touch the bar. I checked all my bolts. Thinking about removing it temporarily until I get new hangers. Also, could be my aftermarket headers are heavy, causing it to drag.

    • @GarageKing
      @GarageKing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Hitmanjat To be honest you can probably take it off, the only thing is your car may get a bit of a wiggle when you drive over train tracks etc. like a convertible. The only thing is if you take it out, I would put the bolts back in with anti-seize, this way the threaded holes wont rust up and you can put the bar back on at a later date.

      You don't have to, but there is the possibility that if you don't use it, you may have a leak. I have done it a few times without the goop, sometimes you get a small leak and sometimes its ok. It depends how rusty the flange is. With the goop I have never had a leak. You don't have to use much.
