I love that this session was driven by respect for this senior dog , acknowledging all his positive attributes and his limitations. Joel really sees dogs.
I feel like ever since I fell onto one of your videos and have been constantly watching ever since, no other trainer takes into account the things you do, or what you do, or even for that matter how you do things. It not only makes you a good trainer but a wonderful dog owner too. So nice to see someone not trying to ‘fix’ a obviously old, getting abit tired beautiful dog who just wants an easy life! It’s such a breath of fresh air.
Totally agree. I had issues with my third dog and had three trainers. I feel like they just wanted to do their thing with my dog and were not listening to all the things I was saying which I believed were helpful to understanding my dog. I tried several different leash walking techniques, none worked, there was minor improvement but none worked. I Did Beckman’s technique and it was a game changer. Instant success! I spent years on the other techniques and was so miserable. This guy listens to the owners and is focused on understanding the dog.
@@foreverjoy9334 I do agree. I had a German Shorthaired pointer and unfortunately due to trainers not listening and methods not working I wasn’t strong enough to control him. Yet now I’ve found Joel I wish I’d of just done some of these simple yet effective techniques. Even the pops he does, they work so well and it’s not cruel or anything!!
I totally agree with your comment. There is just something about the way he digs into all aspects unlike anyone else thats out there(maybe Ceasar Millan).
This may be an unpopular opinion, I don’t know the whole story and it’s nice they wanted to adopt another dog, but if you already have one dog at home, you have to take that into consideration. Especially an older dog that doesn’t like other dogs… I mean unless you did multiple meetings with the dog you wanted to adopt and you are sure the two dogs can get along well, you shouldn’t adopt another one and cause stress to the older dog.
Yeah, it is very true. Although Joel is not the responsible person to tell them this. His job is to help of course 🙂 And I would love to see a follow-up little episode of this story.
I sortof agree with this it can cause stress, but Im wondering that Ares is only reacting naturally because other male dogs could be a threat to him or his things, with him being older ofc (territory, food, females etc) and there is no way to control other people's dogs, especially if other people can't even keep them under control naturally either? Beckman makes a great point at the end I think.
I've heard a lot of things about presa canario's not typically good either but seeing Ares be so composed it leads me to believe for being such a big bulky breed of dog it's likely he's just very resourceful and protective. So it might not be other dogs it could be in a sense something the owners overlooked that is extremely minor. I mean he's very obedient, he takes to corrections very well even with the spry youngins but he could be just wanting to enjoy life for being an old brute lovable puppers alongside the puppy at home with his owners, so essentially maybe correcting the younger one would be a better option(?) It's just a surmise I thought of because I almost hardly believe the problem is Ares. I got surrounded by 5 greyhounds one being super old and the other being a baby baby still where I'll say I'm not terrified of animals but knowing how quick a greyhound whether elderly or youngin snaps from an unknown being is a real stress test as Im 6'3.5" tall which the owner for some reason didn't like how they tested me but I simultaneously gained the trust and respect from her dogs that a couple times the youngin got rocked by his older siblings and grandpa where she couldn't stop them enough but I did the clap and poppy tone to them which terrified me but I did get grounds to their level I wasn't a threat but tolerated no harm to be done which soon as I left I guess she dumped me because they wouldn't stop whining for two days straight. Sorry for the long comment but was a generalized thought that this small misforgotten thought could be in lieu of the younger dog being too sparky for Ares liking or other cases like this. Always wanted to see a presa and this was a joyful experience to see finally such a good humble powerful breed of our fellow companions.
He’s had the house to himself for 7 years, to bring another male in is just stupid and cruel especially with a dominant breed like a presa I’d understand a female dog, infact he might appreciate it with how passive he is around female and unneutered dogs
he’s fine with female dogs because he’s an Alfa all this dud dose is mussel the dogs up and let’s his dog go at them any o e with comen sense can see that an Alfa dog is goin to fight in the presence of another Alfa just to see who’s more Alfa thus being the leader of the pack
Idk, I think grumpy here is actually sweet. I have a senior chonky boy who doesn't like puppy energy, but would tolerate older dogs who don't jump on his shoulder & respect his personal space.
I can totally relate to Aries, what a stately senior dog. I am older and grumpy too, I wish I could growl like that when I am not feeling people friendly😂 I am looking forward to seeing how you work with him and the new GD family member.
He reminds me so much of my 165 lb brindle Bullmastiff! He’s a rescue & had a tough first two years so he had some issues at first with dogs he didn’t know. Mainly fear reactive. He went through aggressive dog school & I kept working with him. Now he’s about the chillest dog ever.
My first thought is that breed is a force to be reckoned with. Their power is no joke. His age and having only one eye makes him set in his way and not wanting to accept a new dog into the home. People need to take into account what breed of dog, age and temperament your dog has BEFORE bringing another dog into their home. Some older dogs will not accept another dog. The only thing to do is hope the older dog will have a level of tolerance with the new dog. Get the new dog to learn to leave the older dog alone. I had an English Bulldog, Lucy 12 years old when my son moved home with a puppy, Keeshond Teddy. I kept the puppy at a distance for the first few months until the get in your face puppy stage passed. I got them to the point that the bulldog tolerated the keeshond and could each lay 2 feet apart each chewing on their own bone, could eat out of their bowls 2 feet apart and they would play tug of war with a long sock. Lol and go outside to potty together. But the keeshond could never enter the bulldogs "circle of space" which he understood with a few pushes from the bulldog. Sadly my bulldog passed at 14 years (Amazing age) and the Keeshond is now 8 yrs. Sorry this is long but people have to understand some dogs like to be alone. Edit: Lucy was a female and Ted is a male and I think that helped.
You have a Keeshond?? I love that breed! But you just don’t see them around where I live which is here in California about an hour away from beckman’s facility. I don’t think I have ever ONCE see one here . I tried to find one to adopt at one point but was never able to find one any closer than 1,000 miles away😂.
@@terridavis9278 you are right about that ! I’m not really one for getting a dog from a breeder (no judgement on anyone who does . I’m just typically a shelter girl). But I DID look into it for a Keeshond and found little more than some sketchy “backyard breeders” with no information (or even photos!) of their litters or the parents , no reviews, nothing. I checked out some Keeshond rescues in California (which I found odd that they even exist out here ) and none of them had any dogs available. Thus, I gave up my search for a Keeshond (as well as a Finnish lapphund which was even more of a lost cause but I already knew that was near impossible ). But that’s ok. I’ve got my Belgian Tervuren/ Shepard mix and she’s a handful all on her own .. as to be expected ! I’m actually wondering if my Terv IS part Keeshond because she has clearly defined “spectacles” and I just recently learned that only 2 breeds in the world have that marking. And that’s the Keeshond and Finnish lapphund. So maybe I DO have one right under my roof and just don’t know it yet;) The DNA kit has been ordered! Can’t wait! But the truth is she could be 2 breeds , 20 breeds or part unicorn and I wouldn’t care. I love her no matter what she is !
these videos are really helpful to learn how to deal with large powerful dogs. my wife and I have an Anatolian Shepherd, that breed is just something else. but a lot of these techniques are very helpful.
That is (I am guessing) a Presa Canario or mix which was bred as a fighting dog in the Canary Islands I believe so yeah, it's quite capable. It could also maybe be a lab/Cane Corso mix.
I love how u explained the dog's point of view! More pointers on how to help the dogs get along at home and strengthen their bond. Always love seeing Joel's bond with Prince🐾❤️
I get the impression he's just an older dog with aches and pains plus the blindnes in one eye he just wants to chill with his people. If he tolerates the other dog I believe that should be considered a victory. If the other dog wants to play and he doesn't that's where I think you might have problems.
No problem. Dies not want to be bothered by a young unfettered sniffing your privates dog. The Great Dane was just neutered after being around him prior. He has more smelling sense due to vision loss. Poor dog to have a 3yr old unneutered young male taller dog in your home. They should not have adopted an unneutered dog with a old one eyed neutered dog. Right I'm old and sore don't be jumping and sniffing me. He looks like he was not socialized with dogs since his breed. This Dog is great.
I would love to hear Joel talk about the influence of the dog's partial blindness of its behavior. My dog is also blind in one eye and I think it contributes to aggression or anxiety.
@@BDTrainingJoel, you know that dogs will do what they're allowed to do. The female in this video is part of the problem. She won't allow the dog to see her boyfriend/husband as the pack leader. The masculine energy is dripping off of her. For future reference, men are disrespectful to other men when they communicate with the woman more so than the man, animals pick up on all kinds of energy and behavior. 👍🏾
9:15 That's the 1st time I've really noticed you tense and shake out your arms and shoulders. I think people forget to do this. You can see in this couple that they have some realistic expectations and are definitely there to be helped. Good on them for not giving up on the rescue! Personally, I think they're crazy for having 2 dogs of that size... then again, I'm just as crazy with our 2 big ass Pyrenees mixes.
Love this. First of all, these people have a huge one eyed Presa and then rescue a Dane. That's a lot of dog in a house!!! Some people would question their sanity! 🤣 Then, they have issues and instead of throwing up their hands and giving the Dane back, they come to you. That is just really, really awesome and I hope they can work things out. Owners like that deserve to have things work out! Once again, I love how you tailor what you do based on the dog, with this guy taking his age into consideration. Would love to know of their progress and I am rooting for them!
aries was ok when prince approached him from his good eye side, but when prince came around on aries no-eye side to his eye side that's when aries had a bigger reaction. compensation for his vulnerable side?
We had an English mastiff that died at age 7 many years ago; the reality is sometimes these big dogs do not live very long, depending on diet, breed and genetics. I heard someone said about these giant breeds: “two years young dog, two years good dog, two years old dog, then anything after is a miracle.” So technically this fellow here is not a middle age man (as Joel is), but possibly entering his sunset years.
Joel, you never have disappointed me. Your intuition and knowledge of dogs are right on, and teaching people that need your desperately need your help, you're amazing. Keep it up. I subscribed and clicked on the bell so as to not miss one video.
@Mid Null he isn't dominating them he only reacts when the other dog tries to go at him. He's a perfect dog and I feel like u don't really know what "dominating" in a dog world even means
@@makaylaspalding5480 No, if you look at what Prince is actually doing he's trying to mark the other male dogs. While with females he's trying to hump them and the owner lets him... The older dog was minding its business till Prince decided to be in his face, in his junk, and spray him. The old doggo acts exactly like my dog. He's super chill and doesn't care about other dogs. It's only when male dogs approach him and try to spray him that he growls.
Don’t worry so much about the negative comments. I love what you do on your channel! I’ve got a 10 week old Pit Shepard mix who is already VERY dominant with my other dogs. Your videos have given me the confidence to let “Grandpa Zeus” my 12 year old pit Shepard mix (coincidence) help with her training. I’m a firm believer in balance. TH-cam NEEDS your channel! Thank you!
OK you’re a really good demonstrator I like how you get straight to the point and showcase what is happening with some demonstration and slow Mo you were by far the best trainer show I have ever watched
I about jumped outta my seat with joy when I saw this video. Reason why, that's exactly what I dealt with, with my 6 year old Mastiff/Ridgeback. (Tyson) First I want to say I love this couple, what a great team and I admire that they work so well together to create harmony in their home. I've had many people tell me they think my Tyson is a Presa Canario or a Cane Corso.. I haven't put much effort in confirming that, since these Breeds are outlawed in many areas and labeled dangerous... In my opinion any dog is dangerous in the wrong hands... I'm not going to tell you how to fix this dog, for the same reason I'm here on Beckman's TH-cam to learn how to improve Tysons behavior.... But I can share a little bit of my experience. First, I want to mention Tysons eyesight isn't that great, He runs into everything and reacts if startled. He doesn't run around and play with other dogs, he's happy and content watching. When He's around young dogs that want to play and jump on him, he gets annoyed and will yow yow, sharp bark, growl, and on occasion has pinned them down then walks away. Also, if I played with the younger dogs and they were jumping and excited, Tyson would get upset and attempt to school them (he's such a party pooper) lol... He doesn't mind me petting or paying attention to other dogs, but he didn't want them to rough play with me. I also had to change Tyson's eating, since he had gained weight and showed signs of joint discomfort. Also, fat wrinkles that at first glance appeared as ribs but was actually fat rolls... lol.. Once he got to a desired weight, he was more active and not such a grumpy pants.. He doesn't like other dogs invading his sleep area. He will allow young pups to eat out of his bowl but not teen dogs.. Tyson is sweet and kind to WELCOMED guests as I see this dog in this video is the same. He's also well trained in all aspects, other than he doesn't tolerate other dogs jumping on him or other dogs rough playing with humans. He shows dominance when first meeting dogs with puffed chest and raised head, but doesn't bark or bite, but if other dog comes at him aggressively, He will put em down.. He won’t bite to break skin, he mouths them at back of neck and forces them to the ground, once they are grounded and submits, then all is good... I'm not saying I allow this, and because of Tyson's reaction when meeting other out of control dog,, I keep Tyson away from unknown dogs... I've wanted to bring Tyson to Beckman but can't afford it at this time... So, I watch every video and am excited to see how he helps this beautiful dog.... I would be great if Family could bring the Great Dane as well to Beckmans. Sorry for the long message... I'm such a blabber mouth.. lol
Aries has a telltale tail! Right before he breaks bad, his tail gets stiff and gets a hump in it right near the base. It’s like an advertisement “I’m gonna lose it!…but first I’m going to growl and snarl” I can see why these people love Aries, he’s such a cool guy most of the time. It might help remind him to relax to actually touch/stroke his tail before he fires off. Helping him learn to self sooth before it gets too much might give him another tool toward self control. It’s one thing to discipline undesired behavior, but I believe it can also be helpful to help the dog learn thru repeated reminders to self sooth when faced with situations that require relaxing a bit. It could be compared to a human taking a deep breath and counting to 5 instead punching someone who is causing stress😉 It also sounds like the Great Dane brother also could use some manners training.
Look how much pain Aries moves with. His back legs are weak. Could be spine. Our old horse had back pain & our old dog had back & neck pain & a chiropractor helped so much. Huge help in movement & comfort. Dogs only need it a cpl times a yr if it helps. I’ve never gone to a chiro but it helped my dog so much. Ours was Becky Carpenter in Oakland. Amazing. Maybe she can refer one in SoCal. FYI
I think Aries being forced to interact while his people are right next to the strange dogs, makes him act protective. He doesn’t have a problem with females or the puppy though, in this brief meeting that’s shown. I think he just prefers to be the only dog. To me, it’s kinda the same as expecting your kid to make friends and share their toys when they don’t feel like doing either. Aries might never take to their new great dane and I don’t think he should be constantly corrected and forced. Maybe fostering as a trial might’ve been a wiser plan.
This is a great example for what I’m going thru with George rn , the dogs aren’t close to the same age but same family. Definitely going to be a video full a tips for a mastiff owner like myself 💪
If nobody believes about the change puppies go through, whatever “their” change maybe, you @BARKBROS are the “proof in the pudding” that they do change. 🙁
It’s a presa, it’s in their blood. You can get them to get along with some dogs, but they will never be a golden or even close for that matter. They are genetically predisposed to some level of dog aggression and same sex aggression. They should have taken this into consideration before getting another dog.
Any chance of doing a session with them bringing their Great Dane to your facility? I think that would be so important! We would all love to see how you approach, and the body language of the dogs as well as personality of the new dog. I so think you should be involved with that process since it is the main focus. Even if you go to their area/house. Any way to actually tackle the goal head on! Hard breed to work with, they are so loyal, could care less about doggy friends if they have an established pack already (humans or dogs) but would love to see the integration of the exact dog they wish to add to the family.
Why would he have them bring both dogs in the first place? They do live together. As an Engineer non dog owner, I want one visit; one win, done if it takes 3 hours. People do work 12 hr days you know
@@JointFive because dogs aren't machines or computers & it takes more than an hour to train them.. in one hour, I could probably get a dog to sit, lay, heel & maybe a 30sec "stay" while seated or laying down. That's just simple, basic obedience any dog should know by a couple months tops anyway lol but REAL training/socializing takes time ! If ANYONE tells you they could take a dog like that and "fix it" or have it completely social & happy with the dog it lives with in one quick session, they're lying!
Older dogs, like older people have aches and pains. Older people can get tired faster when around older people (etc. my grandparents and the little kids during the holidays). Older dogs can get stressed out from the high energy of younger dogs and just don't want to be messed with. Having separation through baby gates and crates as the pup matures, calms and learns manners, (at 8 to 9 months) can still help in developing a relationship between the two dogs.
I thought it was great that Prince got told off by Joel for being a little too up in Aires business. We normally see Prince as a "perfect dog" so it was nice to see that he isn't! I agree with what Joel said about Aires being old and grumpy, it makes sense to me! I also think this is similar to my yorkie mix, he's an old man and doesn't want to be bothered with. I hope Aries learns that he doesn't half to be BFF with the dane, he just needs to tolerate him.
Would it beneficial to have both the Cane and the Dane together in a session? What is the benefit of introducing the Cane to unknown dogs first? Is it just for the initial assessment? Genuinely curious, love the channel.
Both. Initially learning about him and his thresholds and how for them to read his signals and correct him. But if it was me I would want to see my owned dog w the foster dog I am adopting especially both males. While they still have the rescue in place for the foster or so I thought
@@athomehoustonbordercollier2035 interesting, I’ve never adopted a rescue, but I’ve seen write ups on them, and I’ve seen some with stipulations(no cats, small children, single dog home, etc etc). Maybe the Great Dane didn’t have any of these issues so the owners thought there would be no trouble. I can understand the Presa having trouble adjusting to a new pack member. I wonder if they took the Presa to the rescue shelter to meet the Great Dane? Of course, I’m just speculating and hindsight is 20/20.
@@esil5853 usually Danes are jn breed rescue. They should have done a meet and greet first. A rescue these days can come from anywhere a lot of rehoming sections to adoption portals. A meet and greet is always reccomended as a 1st step and if they are a foster your agency if it'd not a city agency or private funded like SPCA should be checking in and hands on. So whose to know 🤷♀️
Dude I just gotta say, you have the best intro I’ve ever seen in any TH-cam video. That’s considering gaming, other animal channels, artists, everything I’ve seen. Seriously almost gives chills and that’s crazy. Aight that’s all lol, good video 👍🏼
I brought a 8 week old female pittie into a household with an 11 year old male pit . It took him about three months for him to accept her. But thanks to this guy i never let up and made sure my senior dog knew he did not make the rules. Almost a year in and it’s been a pretty smooth transition.
The owners were so quick with their corrections in the last part, I didn't even see him do anything yet. Good for them! Still, if he just wants to be left alone, I'd teach the Dane not to bother him. Of course that's not the preferred outcome when you adopt a new dog, but is it fair to Aries to let a new dog constantly invade his space? He didn't get to vote on adopting him.
that first clip at the very beginning, ending with Joel sighing.... man I'd be tired as hell too after spending a couple hours yanking this dog away from people :')))) Joel you must have very strong shoulders
I know people are saying he's not fat, but do we know if the owners may have had him looked at foe Cushings disease? That's a really saggy belly and might also explain why he's grumpy
respect to the owners for not just throwing their rescue dog and their new dog together and hope for the best. it's always best to see if your dog is truly aggressive but in this case it's obviously just an older dog that doesn't have time for foolishness lol
Does anyone else find themselves praising their own male dog (good boy) and sometimes out of your mouth suddenly comes “Goodboy Princey” in Joel’s voice?
Prince: Every day Dad let me meet with some weird guys.😂😂😂 The dog was not aggressive. He could not see on one side so he felt unsecured with stranger dogs, but can still tell he's a happy dog. His parents took care of him very well. Glad to see he learned how to get along with other dogs.
Curious if youhave any favourites breeds. Like did you grow up with a beagle and now have a soft spot for them. Guessing the dobermans are a fav but what made you get a doberman in the first place? Not knocking one breed over another. I think many of us go through phases.
What are your thoughts on CBD oil. It would serve a dual function, help his joints and calm him down when he meets other dogs. My older dog is now taking CBD oil and it helps her so much.
This poor guy, Aries. He just wants to be left in peace, and not bounced on, by ANYone. Other dogs don't know he's blind on 1 side, so as often as not approach from the blind side, including from behind. If his owners have already adopted another male dog, that can't be undone, so his humans have to figure out a way to accommodate Aries' lifetime learned habits and focus on guiding young dog to be gentle & respectful. Space between them key, IMO.
Big boy! I agree. He seems like a dog that just wants to be left alone. He doesn’t want to play so a younger playful dog wouldn’t be a good companion. I’m so glad that an old boy like this isn’t forced to be super social. A great understanding of this dog and a realistic expectation of this boy’s limitations.
LMAO love the "PRINCE, bro..." when prince was sniffing for a bit too long 😂😂 pretty much all it takes for my doggo too, "benny!! Broo..." the disappointment in the voice is all that is needed
Honestly don’t think there’s much “work” you can do for a dog like this. Just like you said, he’s old and just wants other dogs to back away from him. Shit even humans are like that, personally I hate when people get too close to me I wish I could growl and bark like him 🤣
Since this dog is protective, I would think it would be beneficial to tell the owners not to let the dog stand in front of them in a blocking stance (which I saw him do a few times). That might help a bit, always showing him that the humans are in front and will take care of things.
I dont really think this would help, although in other situation this might be very helpful. Don't forget that this dog has been like this all its long and almost-at-the-end life. You wont change the guarding, simply coz he doesnt have a time, or mind, or body to learn this technique. He's just too old 😔
A protective dog should always be sitting or laying next to you never standing in front of you. Never walking in front of you. The owners should have gotten a lab or a golden retriever...this dog is out of their league...
When he growled as Prince tried to sniff him & Prince thought - wtf, nope, I'm outta here. I laughed so much. That old fella just wants his space & warned Prince not to push it. A bit like me. You try sniffing me & I'm gonna growl too!! Just leave me alone. 🤣
I feel bad for Aries. The owners should have taken him into consideration before forcing another dog on him. Rescuing another dog is great , I applaud them for that. However they have a senior dog which has been an only pet his whole life.
How do you get into working with dog and animals in general im a smart kid but i dont have to grades for vet school and i love animals i have a passion for them so if you see this how did u get where you are is there any school anything like that ect
Watch training videos and try put what you've learned from the video into practice with your own dog and over time trying and perfecting different issues. Then try training your friends/families dogs that have problems/issues and go from there.
In the lead up you’re talking about how the dog looks overweight but isn’t but all I saw when we first got a shot of him from the front is damn, this boi is a a walking brick of muscle
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing both of them together in the pasture at Joel's. I know from having many rescues over the years , everything happens first with the resident dog or the order they came into the house - they get fed first, petted first, leash put on first, go outside first, etc. Good things happen when they're together. If anything does happen, it's a general knock it off or that's enough (pronounced E-NUFF). At home, big bucket of ice cold water ready - just in case. Mainly the owners have to step up and be the boss. It's all up to the owners really - using Joel's techniques. Sitting at doorways before going out, sit for your supper. I wouldn't make Aries sit, but he can stand till he gets his release word. Training, Aries first while the Dane watches thru a baby gate so by the time it's the Dane's turn, he's got it. Might take about 6 months for the hormone levels to die down from the recent neuter of the Dane. Honestly, until recently, have had more trouble with females then males. The females tend to want to rehash things, but my males, if there was a fight, it was over, never to be brought up again. Still working with my current Dobe males. We're off muzzles in the house and in the same room as long as they're calm. Up to about 20 minutes outside or at the dog club building with muzzles on. Any suggestions for getting muzzles off outside? My older laid back one wants to grab the neck and put him on the ground - always been his outside behavior.
Presa and Cane Corso both get slobbery when stressed. The chattering is a warning that the breed will give, which if not heeded will develop into a deep growl. Two of the breeds signs of displeasure. My 150lb CC is 10yrs old now, & I have one that turns 3 on 10/23/22. I don't breed anymore though not since the relocation.
Beckman has fantastic dog training skills! I’m committing on another video about leash corrections and training with treats. He does give “some” treats to reinforce good behavior, but he doesn’t feed the dogs treats throughout the entire training session, or constantly say or call the dogs name! He is talking the dog for a walk and expects the dog to pay attention to him…. Not the other way around. I bet his kids are well behaved, too! I think most dog owners are afraid to use a little force to train their pets and children. It’s pretty basic to be the leader, and to be consistent with what’s expected. For me, consistency is the key. My dog knows what I expect of him, if he miss behaves, he gets corrected. If my kids miss behave, they get corrected immediately, with love and understanding. My kids don’t get treats for everything they do right either. They act right because they know it’s what’s expected of them (usually).
Dogs don’t necessarily need to “have friends “ and a powerful dog like this will less likely be “corrected” with a small “tug correction” he clearly didn’t want to go up to that fence . He’s stiff and doesn’t seem to mind other dogs . I was in this Beckmans video at the park . I trained my cane corso by myself realizing that these techniques didn’t work . My corso is very dominant and will put a dog in place if they are too much . She won’t bite but she will be loud and use her body to let it be known . Especially with over excited dogs . Not all dogs need “dog friends” that’s something people incorporated . My corso used to turn around and Bite me to get to another dog while on leash . The pain tolerance this dog has is insane. She will not feel pain . The only thing that got her attention was the vibrate (not stim) on the e collar . Dogs respond to touch . (When a mother dog corrects her puppies she uses her mouth on the neck ) she doesn’t jolt the whole head with a leash . lol it’s all about balance and reward . Praise , toys treats . I use a yes command after every proper correction sometimes a treat sometimes a toy but not alll the time . I worked at a board and train alongside trainers who trained personal protection dogs , military dogs , and police dogs as well . I also learned a lot from trainers like “Tom Davis” “the good dog training” (on instagram) and the friends I have that train dogs for sport competitions and protection work . Which involves a STRICT amount of obedience. My corso has had a great experience with everything and she actually enjoys everything I do with her and can now be in a down stay with other dogs coming up to her completely focused on me . Her instagram is @kalicorso__ for progress videos !
Do u ever notice the bully and Mastiff breeds tend to get aggressive when dogs pace? I know Dobernans are just majestic and they dont sit still but bullies and Mastiffs generally are like a canine sloth and move in slow motion until they get startled lol .
I love that this session was driven by respect for this senior dog , acknowledging all his positive attributes and his limitations. Joel really sees dogs.
I do too but my chubby.fella thinks he's a puppy. Can be v quiet then cheeky up to all sorts. Got to love animals there funny
Foolish statement, the dog is IN CHARGE and the owners and the trainer are SOFT… I fix dogs like that in one session
Same, been binging them today.
"Prince! Bro!" lol. I love that he talks to prince like he's just one of the guys and prince gets it.
Finally somebody with some common sence!
He’s had the house to himself for 7 years, to bring another male in is just stupid and cruel especially with a dominant breed like a presa
I’d understand a female dog, infact he might appreciate it with how passive he is around female and unneutered dogs
That dog is kinda my spirit animal. “Just please get away from me” 🤣
He's not aggressive, he's just a cantankerous old man who wants to be left alone lmao
And you are a cantankerous gremlin 😝
One of the most obvious cases I’ve seen. He def just wants to be left alone.
Well idk about that. Seems he just wants to be left alone from other males xD but females seem to be fine to him
he is aggresive
he’s fine with female dogs because he’s an Alfa all this dud dose is mussel the dogs up and let’s his dog go at them any o e with comen sense can see that an Alfa dog is goin to fight in the presence of another Alfa just to see who’s more Alfa thus being the leader of the pack
Idk, I think grumpy here is actually sweet. I have a senior chonky boy who doesn't like puppy energy, but would tolerate older dogs who don't jump on his shoulder & respect his personal space.
I agree, I love him
I can totally relate to Aries, what a stately senior dog. I am older and grumpy too, I wish I could growl like that when I am not feeling people friendly😂 I am looking forward to seeing how you work with him and the new GD family member.
Like your sailboat pic!
@@KingsMom831 Thanks!
Do you bite people?
@@VinchenzoC I haven’t yet, but I make no promises!😂
You just need proper socialization. =p
Great owners and sweet dog, grumpy and set in his ways is all. Great video
I agree.
Yeah, he's a handsome and sweet, crotchety old man.
Do you mind sharing what they had you do to deal with the aggression ?
Just don’t stop telling him he’s being rude. It takes ages.
Sometimes it’s just the trauma and anxiety
@@alisha_madariaga Yes Keeshond are hard to find. I don't think there are many breeders in the U.S
Great video! I really like how Joel always tries to find a happy medium, both for the dog and human.
I don't think that's a problem...you tell the other dogs to back off...and if you don't take charge the dog will take it from you.
Ares be like: "Why be a Prince, when you can be a god?"
I would love to hear Joel talk about the influence of the dog's partial blindness of its behavior. My dog is also blind in one eye and I think it contributes to aggression or anxiety.
It usually does.
He hides/ignores it well, but it's there in quite a few of them.
Brother than a Presa
That shit can drive a cat without the steering
Brilliant training video! You’re a good man!
damn, what a good dog. he tries so hard to do what he knows you want from him.
Bm, Em, Ddb, neo, boerboel in general don't live as long as presa, corso, dogo, tosa etc
My English Mastiff had to be put down on her 13th birthday.
She was a great friend.
He’s like dude I don’t need any new friends.
Joel, you never have disappointed me. Your intuition and knowledge of dogs are right on, and teaching people that need your desperately need your help, you're amazing. Keep it up. I subscribed and clicked on the bell so as to not miss one video.
Love an update on this guy in a month or so. Thanks again for another goody.
Prince: Is it just me or are these dogs getting bigger and bigger as the days go by?
and he keeps trying to dominate them all. Good on that doggo for growling and putting a stop to it.
The dog is huge! Thank you for sharing the session
FYI
Excellent idea. I've heard this helps alot. And, dog acupuncture.
Maybe fostering as a trial might’ve been a wiser plan.
omg what a beast!! he seems fairly chill, just likes his personal space lol.
Watching him and the way you described him, I thought, Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino 🤷♀️, pretty cool, grumpy old dude
Truth! 😂
clint eastwood was a racist pos
So true!!
They should have gotten a female dog
Prince must be a genius on the dog spectrum
It's a Presa Canario not a Cane Corso
Both. Initially learning about him and his thresholds and how for them to read his signals and correct him. But if it was me I would want to see my owned dog w the foster dog I am adopting especially both males. While they still have the rescue in place for the foster or so I thought
@@absolutelyfookinnobody2843 my mistake, that’s for the correction.

You are the best trainer i have watched Joel
The dad has awesome energy! With some education(understanding dogs to the core), I get the feeling he could be great with them.
Would love to see more vids these big mastiff type dogs!
Yep
that first clip at the very beginning, ending with Joel sighing.... man I'd be tired as hell too after spending a couple hours yanking this dog away from people :')))) Joel you must have very strong shoulders
Prince must be like Dude stop bringing these pain and the ass dogs to me. I just want to chill and jump in that lake.
The Maisie bit made me laugh! She was just so sweet
I know people are saying he's not fat, but do we know if the owners may have had him looked at foe Cushings disease? That's a really saggy belly and might also explain why he's grumpy
I was thinking the same thing
He’s a senior dog and he’s neutered. He is a tiny bit heavy. But for his breed, not much all things considered.
Is there a follow up with this story and how things went? I'd love to know.
"Leave him, or he'll never leave you" 😂🤣
respect to the owners for not just throwing their rescue dog and their new dog together and hope for the best. it's always best to see if your dog is truly aggressive but in this case it's obviously just an older dog that doesn't have time for foolishness lol
Does anyone else find themselves praising their own male dog (good boy) and sometimes out of your mouth suddenly comes “Goodboy Princey” in Joel’s voice?
Prince: Every day Dad let me meet with some weird guys.😂😂😂
The dog was not aggressive.
Beagles are best...everyone knows this...;)
What are your thoughts on CBD oil. It would serve a dual function, help his joints and calm him down when he meets other dogs. My older dog is now taking CBD oil and it helps her so much.
Always look forward to your videos
This poor guy, Aries. He just wants to be left in peace, and not bounced on, by ANYone. Other dogs don't know he's blind on 1 side, so as often as not approach from the blind side, including from behind.
If his owners have already adopted another male dog, that can't be undone, so his humans have to figure out a way to accommodate Aries' lifetime learned habits and focus on guiding young dog to be gentle & respectful. Space between them key, IMO.
I would think evaluating the dane may help...
Our next session is with both the dogs

@@BDTraining My G
Big boy! I agree. He seems like a dog that just wants to be left alone. He doesn’t want to play so a younger playful dog wouldn’t be a good companion. I’m so glad that an old boy like this isn’t forced to be super social. A great understanding of this dog and a realistic expectation of this boy’s limitations.
Quite taken with the one eyed fella myself at the Beginning . Got a soft spot for chubby dogs
LMAO love the "PRINCE, bro..." when prince was sniffing for a bit too long 😂😂 pretty much all it takes for my doggo too, "benny!! Broo..." the disappointment in the voice is all that is needed
Thank you for helping to make the world a better place.
He is just old and doesn't really want no shit
He just wants peace
💚 He's adorable
If you like Presa Canarios understand that you are buying a dog that probably dont like other dogs.

Yup, this breed is not for everyone. Not for most people actually.
That was my first reaction when I saw this clip, know first what you have on your leash!! I also blame the bad management of the dog pound!
A healthy presa male dont care about other dogs..
Super how you work. Thans for the cool video's
I would love to see more of the office sit down talks even that little bit was incredibly interesting
I'm realising that we need this training too at school. We all need to be good boys like these dogs.

What am I watching? 😬 this is painful to watch. Knowledge is key.
I mean Prince is the assistant trainer. He could hold the fort down when Beckman goes on vacation. lol
It was not fair to bring in another male large dog into this house. This old guy deserves better. IMO.

I’m pretty set in my ways too at this age. Lol
Aries just seems like a chill old man that just wants to be left alone by other dogs
Try not to use people names or dog names when trying to break things up as it tends to create jealousy..
I noticed his frame right away. Not excess weight, just a big boy.
Do you do phone consults?
I am Canario, from the Canary Islands. This was a beautiful video and it touched me.
Anyone else get the Clint Eastwood vibe of him just telling them get off my lawn. Lol I like him
Beckman has fantastic dog training skills!
Her instagram is @kalicorso__ for progress videos !
this "trainer" just acts like he knows what hes doing.
Well done beckman bro just well done!
Do u ever notice the bully and Mastiff breeds tend to get aggressive when dogs pace? I know Dobernans are just majestic and they dont sit still but bullies and Mastiffs generally are like a canine sloth and move in slow motion until they get startled lol
.
Is there an update on Aries and the Dane??
Have you ever had an issue when correcting the growl turns into biting without warning?
If real pain is inflicted on the correction, that can absolutely happen. Not good.
