When I lived with my dad and his 3 dogs, he had a very active pit. He's was very well behaved but couldn't help himself when he got excited because he had SO MUCH ENERGY. I started strapping him into a harness, hopping on a skateboard, and just letting him tear around the neighborhood as fast as he wanted. Didn't take as long as a walk, and tired him out 5x as much
My daughter and her husband have a pit like that.They let him pull them around the block on a bike and the dog loves it,he even stops on his own at stop signs,it's a great energy burner.I think everyone with a dog like this,needs a dog cart to pull

I do that too with my dog, he's an Australian shepherd
I ride my bike and my pit runs with me on her lead. She loves it so much and it wears her out so much faster than walks lol

It's not surprising a dog breed selectively bred for rough sports and activity like fighting enjoys doing just that. Prince is such a good dog with a solid temperament to keep tolerating this

Love how PRINCE looks at the dog bounding back over the wooden walk and he’s sitting there with the teacher look. 😎Calm, not moving and most of all not worrying about him coming towards him. He’s a born leader. The other dog is just🤪 but eventually he will get better. A lot of people think their dog will grow out of it, but nobody should take that risk!

I’ve been bringing my dog to the doggie park ever since he was 10 weeks old and it was the best thing I ever did with him. He’s learned so much from others dogs it’s just amazing. Don’t get me wrong he’s also a really smart dog that was supper easy to train but there’s just some things u can’t teach a dog that only other dogs can teach them.
I don’t know. Great Pyrenees are a very chill breed (not saying they couldn’t be violent) but burmees mountain dogs I’ve had trouble with when it comes to aggression for some reason.
@@Aidan-fw1xr both were bread to be very independent mountain guardians. I run into both in their actual homelands while hiking with my boxer in the French Alps. The best advice is to leave them alone if they are giving you signals like growling, they are very capable of fighting off wolf packs. Bernese can be excellent when acclimated but both breeds are large, independent and powerful

I’m glad you kept saying that he needed this and that. He is a young dog that needs to learn socialization. He’s on instinct mode and hasn’t learned boundaries. They’ll pick it up with consistent trips to the parks.
What bugs me is ppl who bring dogs like the pit here and go sit on a bench and chat with people or put their nose in a screen for an hour while I’m on the field referee’ing their dog(s).

I have a high energy very friendly but very strong American Bully. I stay on her like a hawk wherever we are because she also is learning boundaries. She will adapt to whatever the play style but if a dog likes to get bitey she will let them bite her and draw blood. I would love to see her check dogs like Prince.
@@jadecoolness101 never heard of this in my area but also they should only ban actual pits AKA American pitbull terriers at parks🤷🏽♂️ maybe try to travel a little more out of your area to find a dog park or try to meet new people with dogs too

This 1000% would've been multiple fights that I've seen with just Prince, the only reason they don't fight is because of the muzzle! You can see so many times where it goes to bite at Princes ankles and shit, then immediately starts trying to get the muzzle off

Tbh the pit has the more dominant energy. Prince just has been trained very well. But the pittie is leading all the interactions here and when it is smelling etc, prince is submitting to the engagement. He is reacting defensively and sometimes in a strong manner but thats cos hes an older dog and the pittie is annoying him. Either way, brilliantly trained doberman, great energy, the pit is just a clown
You know, if I were to run into you walking your doberman, I'd probably cross the street. But now it turns out your doberman is not just incredibly well behaved and friendly, he's also got a fulltime job as a behaviour therapist. 👌🏻🥰
I'd like a little orgiinal audio from the clips mixed in. I know you can literally talk about dogs all day without stopping but it helps to hear the dogs vocalizing too. love the vids!
All my dobermans I realized are natural born teachers, they show patience majestically while being sniffed up and down, partially mounted, then react gently at first, the second warning a little harsher, but the dog gets it.
You've trained Prince well, I could tell he wanted to give the Pit way more than he could handle.
Stop the foolishness. That Pit would have annihilated Prince, thus the reason he was muzzled. Dobermans are good dogs, but they weren't bred to do what a Pit does.

@@JSE4not saying it’s in the right but sometimes tails can be docked for health reasons. I’ve heard of some dogs constantly breaking their tails from wagging them so hard so the owner will dock them for their health. I believe ears can be cropped for health reasons as well but it depends of course.
I know some people who have an absolute unit of a new foundland. It's amazing to see how chill it is and how easily he corrects another dog. The mass on him alone is just impossible to move.
This is the third or fourth of these I've seen. Your dogs are so ridiculously well behaved. So confident and assured without being aggressive or mean. Just letting the other dogs know what's socially acceptable. I raised a litter of kittens recently, and it's very similar to how those kittens socialized each other during play sessions. I wonder how much of this is a correction of the absence of something similar that dogs who are taken from their litters too early don't get.
I love these videos. Alot of people dont understand dog behavior and how effective it can be to have a balanced stable dog correct an unbalanced dog. Also love your mindset about the judging other people decisions on their dogs. Whether you neuter or not, it's the decision of the dog owner what is best.

I even think the scratch at minute 06:44 was strategical to get the other dog to give him a break and use his head for a second but that's just my opinion🙂 Also "...the non-neutering people live in a farm in Ireland..." lol so true!

What !!! I live in a farm in Ireland - everything is neutered ……including me 🤣 vet bills bigger than a mortgage but worth every cent - there is no better way to live and no better place to live in the world and yep I’ve been all around it .Thankfully the animals didn’t fall for the catholic shit so they have never a problem with contraception.

He's an excellent supportive dog,just like pitbull Blackie(if you check out his video of him at the dog park he was wild at 2 and years old)the female pitbull featured was the one correcting Blackie and he eventually understood 🤔 it

I have a cousin who's been like this pit since childhood. He never reads the room well, expresses too much energy for everyone else, and doesn't get the message when people don't respond well to him. This dog needs to figure out boundaries and to play within them.

Wow, this is my dog! She pushes to the limit every time and is a pain in the arse for bigger, older dogs. I'm quite happy for her to get teached but she is still going 100% even when she is rolled. No fighting, though. It may come. No fear and very high drive. Proper wee handful.
I have recently adopted a dog that is 9 mo. Pit, pretty much the same as this dog. He is a bit more chill than this dog. I think the owners before had dogs. I felt a bit overwhelmed at first but watching your other videos helped. Then I saw this video. My friend owns a rottie that is strong he did the same thing corrected him a couple times even pinned him. the owner was nervous but let it go and it made a huge difference. He now is listening to pretty much everything I want him to do. And he is more calm. Thank you for putting this on TH-cam. I'm too far away to come there but will keep watching and working on it.👍
I did have to neuter my 1 male, he had the biggest chip on his shoulder and no matter how much I tried it just wasn't working. It did help curve him and his attitude to where he is the sweet boy he was before. My other male is in tact and we've had no issues with him. I don't recommend doing it just because you think it will fix everything, I used it as a last option after exhausting all others and thankfully it did work and he's living his best life with us and his brother.
I've recently discovered your channel and I wanted to say THANK YOU so much for these videos. As well as calling out the people who complain about dogs being intact etc. My great dane is a total sweet heart and wants nothing more than to play, and everyone thinks that because he's intact that he wants to fight or start shit which he clearly hasn't ever tried to do. Plus, you are so good at explaining each situation in your videos and why you do something one way vs. Another.
Totally agree! Had the same experience with my Dobie who hasn't been fixed yet. He does really well but has started giving corrections as hes matured & it freaks people out, but has helped my mom great pyrenees who didn't know how to properly play

Prince was perfect, if anything, I wish he would have gone harder in his corrections earlier to really make that pup think. But you really can’t ask more out of a helper dog. I agree with all of your assessments. This video really hit home with me because my male GS has wanted to play this rough since 6 months old and I sought out dominant older females to correct him and curb the behavior. It helped more than my corrections/training ever could.
When done well and properly a human can give a very firm correction that is effective. But since dogs are fluent in the language of violence, they will deliver the best correction like only a fellow canine can. This is why I'm a proponent of Humane e-collar use. With the right dog and the right e-collar, when using lower levels, it can provide the correct kind of stimulation and correction without causing injury to the dog but still effectively communicating the correction. I reiterate, low levels. Sometimes a leash pop is not enough for very strong dogs

Yeah a lot of that is just excitement for being at the amusement park for the first time. Satiation will help a lot, but its hard unless you have a controlled situation like this. Owner did the right thing and came to the right place. I'm confident this dog will learn.
Love the videos and your methods; particularly using the "mentor" dog. I think the only thing I would 'argue' with is the amount of exercise. Certain dogs need a whole lot more exercise than others and people should accept that responsibility when taking on a larger/active dog.

@@annwhite3235 i feel like 2 miles is nothing. And I don't even have an "active breed". We walk 4-5 miles nearly every day and i think this is easy for my LGD.

I have an extremely athletic rottweiler thats lean af, he walks off lead for like 3-5 hours. I say walk but its more than that because we'll sprint and jog in-between with crazy incline and decline to help keep Muscle definition.
At the end of his walk he either meets his male gsd, female gsd, female gsd, male rescue dog etc for a play sessions. All the owners are surprised the amount of work I put in to keep him functioning at a high level since I'm only 19😂😂
He gets socialised with humans to an extreme level too, being that I take him on buses, trains and packed city centres. I have found that even with heavy human socialising his nature of being protective and cautious of people will always remain. So if its been like 10 mins and you're still petting him (as a stranger)he'll warn you to leave and if you're still there, there'll be trouble 😂
We have a 22lb Jack Russell/ Poodle that gets a total of 4 miles of walking in daily. Even small breeds need exercise.

I love advice about exercising his dog daily at least 1 mile. I walk mine every at least 2 or more. I am working with my Boxer pit mix and his playmate Riggie after both being dismissed from Daycare for rough play. The daycare they were dismissed have attended at 3 months old now each 12 months. This is new behavior for them both and I believe it's due to a new pack member and staff not correcting rough play in the past month. This behavior shifted very quickly in both the pups. BUT with the use of your method of correction in 2 days of working with them both for 1-hour sessions it's amazing the shift back in behavior. Thanks so much! I had a very hard time sleeping after the daycare owner saying it was his fault. It made me wonder what was going on during the 2 days a week my pup attended. Happy to have found you .

Right now my dog is 9m old and I don’t see any signs showing me I’m going to have to get it done. I’ve been bringing him to the dog park since he’s 10 weeks old so with my training and him learning from other dogs it’s been really easy. Only problem I had with him was I couldn’t get him to listen to me while at the park. So I got a training collar and after a few correction with the collar now all I have to do is use the alarm and he stops what he’s doing and looks directly at me waiting for a command. I’ll say this I’d recommend getting a training collar to anyone having issue with their dog.

I do always strongly recommend pointing people in the right direction of how to introduce their dogs to corrective collars though, but yes you are 100% right, 90% of the time however, it is usually over dogs that have problems with un neutered dogs, more so than the behaviour of the non neutered dog, like beckman says in most of his videos, neutered males usually don't like them
thank you I Remember when neutering was a very big and being advertised as a healthy thing for dogs. but in reality it was due to the backyard breeding and irresponsible owners. if you are responsible in the sense as to train for humping and attaching to dogs then your all good. aggression more then likely comes from training/raising your pup. keep there jewels be a better dog owner for their benefit

Awesome video. That dog is a good dog on the cusp of having lifelong problems and as usual you are getting right to the solutions. I'm glad that owner knew to go to you! I love the fact that you call out the breed as explaining some of the tendencies. I'm a fan of the APBT, but we need to understand what they were bred for, just like a Retriever is going to act differently than a Malinois than a Doberman, etc. Your dog behavior videos are amazing, and your solutions make so much sense.

This dog needs to go and meet the Senza Tempo Cane Corso pack. As soon as he starts acting wild, the entire pack (about 20 dogs in total) - even the older puppies - will correct him, and the alpha dogs will make him submit. (except Battista will 100% cause a fight so no letting the B-man go at it)
As good trainers know, excitement and roughness can trigger fights. This kind of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable.

You're an excellent trainer keep up the good work. The craziest thing besides the obsessive sniffing, is the Pitbull had his hackles up the entire time! I have had Dobbies and pit bull (a rescue) and it took a couple weeks to get the pitti right but he is a great dog now.
My dog Niko is nearly identical to this dog down to the color and personality. He’s almost five now and I’ve been working with him since a puppy. As a 3/4 month old pup he was fearless and acted the same way. I tried putting him into every scenario I could think of as far as socialization, but the biggest challenge was getting him around other dog owners that weren’t terrified of Pit Bulls. Had one encounter when he was a puppy where he received some good correction from an older pit bull and that was literally magic. Now days I’m thinking of going ahead and getting him neutered. We train multiple days a week, walk 5-20 miles a week, etc and it’s like nothing stops this kind of behavior with him.
No reason to neuter that old.
One way to stop - Have to be a drill instructor with dogs like that. No breaks. Always being corrected when needed, never letting him slide. Thats why they say certain breeds arent for people. Because you can come across a dog that will amplify the bad traits in that breed. You have to be experienced to be able to deal with things like that. Or you will end up like everyone you see here on this channel.

One time I was walking by doberman, whom was around 4 or 5 months at the time. My neighbor's dog, that looks, like the pit in this video, got loose and was trying to aggressively smell my dog. I couldn't get my dog away from him, so I let go of his leash, because he knows not to go in the street, and I grabbed the pits collar. He was so adamant about smelling my dog. Bruised my hand from the pulling.

I love this channel because there are so many basket cases that I always get mad at owners about because they don't socialize them, but here they get socialized. It's great to see!
Remember that it is a 'mixed bag.' Some people are just negligent but others cannot socialize their dogs because of reactivity or because they adopted them unsocialized 😉
Lack of socialization isn't always the problem - and you, getting mad at other people isn't the solution. You don't know the genetics of every dog that isn't like yours.
I get what you're saying, but if your dog doesn't play nice, or they haven't been trained well enough, then you can't put your dog (and specially others) at risk.
@@blujeans9462 Genetics are overrated. Yeah they play some part but 90% of personality is formed by interacting with the world, or lack thereof.
@@chiefhokie I don't know any dog that interacted with enough other dogs as a puppy that turned out bad. Not one. Literally all of them did fantastically.
Love this approach to dog training, makes so much more sense than some of the big name trainers approach to it.
I take my pug to doggy beach ocean city nj the dogs run around a play it’s great. The was this husky tho that was very aloof. The other dogs didn’t interact with him after initial contact. They wanted nothing to do with him he was so dominant.
Then this new guy came with to big Rhodesian ridgebacks. The male ridge back was watching the husky and when the husky came up in seconds the ridgeback pinned him on his back and it was over. What was amazing was that husky was now able to play with the other dogs. That ridgeback diagnosed the problem and corrected it just like that. Btw the ridgebacks didn’t have a problem with the other dogs they were great. I never forgot that moment and have been reminded of it watching your videos👍👍

Watching this video was like watching my own dog. He is also a bluenose pit and roughly the same size as this dog, but unlike this dog, mine is neutered. I’ve had him his whole life, rescued at 8 weeks old, and we socialized him very well. He’s incredibly friendly and loves other dogs but when he was young, he would just play SO HARD. Other dogs would get upset with him and over-correct him. To keep everyone happy and safe, we stopped going to the dog park and instead my dog gets short 1-on-1 play sessions with neighbor dogs at the local park. I laughed hearing how he went at Luke “he just kind of loses his mind.” That’s exactly my dog. He is a great dog and even has other dog friends, but they have to have meshing personalities. That’s my job though, to understand him well enough to set him up for success. He’s almost 6 now and I’m proud of him and my understanding of dogs in general thanks to him. He’s never had a serious incident and I wholly agree with the training in this video. This is essentially all the learning I had to do by myself over the years.

My pit is about a year and a half. She's very hyperactive and loves to play. I'm considering, watching this video, on getting her a muzzle for the dog park so people feel more comfortable and so she doesn't hurt another dog. She's abrasive and very intrusive. I've gotten lucky once with meeting her match. Sadly that family was moving away a week later.
As someone who's seen pits at the dogpark, yeah - it'd ease my mind seeing that muzzle cause dammit - they bowl over dogs who want to chase and tag rather than wrestle. There's huskies that do it too, they prefer a wrestle/fight to running.
I'd try finding another dog to match yours and try and get play dates together. No one wants to fear their dog getting bit - no one thinks a sane person would bring an aggressive dog to a dog park but we know how some breeds perceive fun can be too much for other dogs.
A muzzle would help
Thats exactly what the overactive dogs need. Especially when they want to resort to fighting like in these videos. Instead they get put in their place and arent able to fight back. Just gotta be sure the other dogs arent going to over react, hence why princes training and temperament is so important
Mine is the same! She's 3 years now but I really want to continue to try socialize her with other pups. I told my husband about the mussel as well.
Prince is such a great dog
I have a long legged staffy never neutered never felt the need .. hes never out off lead and I will never be a backyard breeder .. and even after he was attacked twice as a puppy hes still very placid lovely dog with people and dogs.. prince is a beautiful example of his breed .. amazing dog
These videos make me so proud of my own dog I have an unneutered 100+ lbs male abpt who was the only male from his litter and I've had since the day he was born he is twice the size of the rest of his litter for some reason however he is and has always been the best behaved most intelligent receptive dog I've ever met and he was attacked at 11 months old by another unneutered male his size without warning one day and he just stood there while the dog tried pulling him to the ground by his throat I jumped in and held the other dogs head still while trying to break him loose and when I did it came after him again and my dog still just stood his ground but I jumped on the other dog and held it still till my dog was walked to my house by a neighbor who happened to be nearby he never once tried moving fighting back or even crying or getting mad he just trusted my lead but I was concerned it would effect him later in life however now he is the most confident tolerant alpha I've ever seen in person he acts just like prince no matter the scenario always confidently stands his ground and tolerantly deals with their bs till it's too much then quickly corrects them but never gets upset or goes overboard and always listens if I tell him to stop and he also corrects hyperactive behavior when around children or babies by getting between the hyper dog and backing them down if need be if they are close to jumping on or hurting a baby however he never takes anything personal or too far I always worried that attack would make him behave poorly around other unneutered males however his trust in me and his intelligence and training have apparently worked very well seeing these videos
Prime example of real life corrections having a positive effect on the other dog. Can't baby a dog and expect results.
Funny how the corrections do nothing and people still think that pit is fixable.
Thank you for sharing. I rescued a 5 year old pit mix that was not neutered (he is now). He gets along great with my female but he acts similar to new dogs in that he is physical. He has never been aggressive but he can be A LOT sometimes so I hesitate to take him out. I can’t wait to see how you help this dog. Thank you for your insight.

As a former veterinary technician for about 10 years, with experience in both Western medicine big-chain vets and private practice holistic clinics, I can confidently say your videos are hands down some of the best dog training content and information out there. It's better than much of the typical veterinarian approaches when it comes to training.
Yes, there is no shortage of pathology either when it comes to dog/cat lovers. I've seen people treat their dog or cat as a thing to replace both friendships and deeper connections with people. At worst, these people say things like, "Dogs are better than humans"or support the notion that having an animal is better than raising a child---which is of course odious and deeply anti-human in its message.
Great job and thank you for your work! And honestly, after watching your videos, maybe one day instead of getting a Golden or a Collie, I've reconsidered the Doberman breed as a great family pet one day.
awsome to watch, reminded me of my old pit cross. not leash reactive, good with meeting other dogs, took him to dog park, didn't know at that time to not just turn him loose, same really rough play ensued, started by my dog, w/ a Pyrenees and fight ensued....both dogs were roughed up but okay cause we broke it up quickly
