    Just one tip for anyone doing this themselves, following the manual: the intake camshaft will try to "jump" a tooth on the chain because it's pushing down on the valve and tries to rotate out of the way. What you can do to keep the chain in place until you've put in the cam chain tensioner is use a ziptie to tie the chain to the sprocket temporarily, through one of the holes in the sprocket. Then you can install and tension the tensioner and cut off the ziptie, without the cam trying to jump a tooth.

      I did see a ziptie in this video. Now I know why!

    This video showed what I was looking for in regards to the cam chain tensioner. Great.
    Doing the same on my xsr900 just now, and some details are hard to find information about.
    Thanks.

    Nice video but judging by how tight the place is, Yamaha never though this will be done with the engine on the bike. I have two Kawasakis and it's much more accessible, one of them so much so that it's actually a half hour job. And I imagine refitting the cover with the gasket staying out must have been a David Copperfield job :-))))

    Thank a lot for your video. I have to do on my T700. I have 47000km. Did you buy your manual shop at Yamaha dealer?

    What's about "Yamaha bond No.1215" that is mentioned in Yamaha Service Manual (Three bond No.1215®)? Did you use it on the new valve cover gasket and cylinder head?

    Really good stuff, thank you very much! I still have a question though. How did you create this black solution? I assume its this "molybdenum disulfide oil" referred to in the manual, but what is that exactly?

      I mixed some MoS Grease with engine oil. No special ratio, just on feeling

    thanks a lot for well explained tutorial, but it will my first time to do, so I'm wondering the what type of grease on the stick at 5:13, which you didn't pronounce grey oil, is it also MOS ?
    thanks in advance

    • @twowheels90
      @twowheels90  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's a mix of MoS2 grease and engine oil. That's what the manual states. I found It doesn't really mix that well. I believe there are special engine rebuild grease for sale. They are very sticky apparently.

    Hi,
    Where did you order the new “shims” from ? Trying to understand after I take the measurements, where can I find them?

    I don’t understand why I can drive over 100k miles with a car without adjusting any valves while having to do all this after 25k miles on such a bike.

    • @twowheels90
      @twowheels90  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cars usually works with hydraulic valve adjusters. These are self setting. Bikes don't use this, Im guessing because it's a more complex/heavier system. And not sure if it can handle the high RPM of many bikes

    What a faff this is, I did this job on an NC750X and once the front forks and rad are out the way it couldn't be easier, just nut adjusters (no shims) this looks to be a real pain in the ass.
