After all these years I still think this song is a lyrical masterpiece
It is
Yes Yes !!
Agree.
Totally agree
And melodic masterpiece, one of the catchiest songs ever written with a real story and meaning
My mom suddenly passed away when I was 13. She loved this song so much that I got the lyrics "tracing her way through the constellation" tattooed on my shoulder when I turned 18. Now I'm 28 and I literally just found out this song was written because his mom passed away. I've always felt a strong connection to this song, and now even more so.
:(
:'(
😢
My mom’s mom died in Nov. 1998 from lung cancer. I was only 3 years old but I vaguely remember seeing her in the nursing home as she was dying. A few years later in 2002 I heard my sister blasting this song through her stereo system then I found out what it was about and ever since then I have dedicated this song to my grandmother :/
Whyd you have to go and make me cry like that
I lost my mom 2 days after Mothers Day 2022... I have always said my mom would be free, flying and visiting all of her favorite places she love when she was here was with us.. My mom is tracing the constellation as she journeys through time and space free to be.
if you know this song is about his dead mom its a real tear jerker
You know a song is truly great when all it needs is a voice, an acoustic guitar (and 3-4 chords) and it's still magic. A real rock anthem for the early 21st century, love this song.
TiZ
I agree.
This is not a rock anthem but good song nonetheless
Miss my mom every day
After 9 years as a drug addict, with love and support of our family, and several rehab facilities, my beautiful daughter is clean 4 years. This song reminded me of her journey from hopelessness to a beautiful future. She is happy and full of life. Thank you Train for this beautiful song which I would sing to her , and for keeping hope in her life and ours. God bless you. Donna
"She listens like spring & she talks like June" love the lyrics to this one :)
Love this song
I love it too especially because my name is June 🥰🥰
There's something about this song that always brings me back to reality, back to myself. Throughout the years I always get the same sweet feeling listening to this song. There's just something about the way he describes her that is so profound and beautiful.
Isn’t music amazing. Everyone has different interpretations. This song always made me think in kind a spiritual cosmo type way. Hard to put into words, but it always gave me the image of our loved ones sailing across the galaxy and the stars, constantly moving as we do, over time becoming one with the universe. It always gives me a mental image of the stars, Milky Way, and all planets inhabited. Like the soul is taking an adventure across the galaxy.
"Your best friend always sticking up for you...even when they know you're wrong"
The only friend I have ever had that's done that for me is my wife. I need to go cuddle my wife and give her a kiss. Best thing that ever happened to me.
+Old70sdude i hope you two happiness and joy. Beautiful song ey
+Old70sdude Sound like a white knight mangina, tbh
+Timothy Donaghue Could care less what you think, dude. Mangina or not, I have a happy life. Hope you do too.
+Timothy Donaghue Coming from a POS wearing eyeliner and makeup, what do you have a right to say?? Go back to you closet (looks like you haven't left it in a while....).
Lol great post. Yeah these pua scumbags are everywhere nowadays. Have a cartoon version of what male/female means.
The song portrays a man wondering whether a woman's journey to find herself still leaves room for him, whom she had left behind. Lead singer Patrick Monahan has stated that the song was inspired by his late mother, who had died after a struggle with cancer, and that the opening lines "came to [him] in a dream."
More like this one...please?
I’m curious cause I might know the meaning but can I ask why you put brackets around him?
@@Spinach_Dip93 Because the original quote was, "came to me in a dream." He changed it to fit with the sentence grammatically, and the brackets show what change was made. It's a pretty common way of doing business with quotations.
Learn something new everyday! Thank you
I felt this comment in my soul so bad. About the girl that left to find herself. We never hated each other. I just hope we find each other again one day
I’m sitting on my sofa bawling my eyes out right this moment. My mom/best friend passed suddenly and unexpectedly three years ago. Fortunately & unfortunately I got to be there with her through it. Horrible and beautiful at the same time. She got to see me born into this world and I got to see her born into her beautiful afterlife. Funny how you can be so happy for someone and have incredible pain at the same time. Peace to anyone who reads this!🕊🌞🕊
I have lost both of my parents and this song is always one of my "go to songs" when I'm missing them.
snow white man im sorry about that how are you
God bless you ❤
Man fuck that life.
I send you a virtual hug and the best wishes for a good life❤
What a frigging voice this man has; it's really what makes this song so beautiful.
Dire straits
The way this song is written, it captures a vibe that’s indescribable
ten years ago..driving at night thru the mountains of Pennsylvania and Maryland..on my way back to DC from a weekend in Pittsburgh..MIX 99...this was big..lots of good music then..remember Stain'd, Three Doors Down, Dave Matthews and Jewel??? Good times
When I was child my dad had been putting this song while I tried to sleep. I remember as if it had happened yesterday.
FYI (for your Information), the song "Drops of Jupiter" is dedicated to his (RIP) mother, who loved the study of stars, planets etc.
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey, hey, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?
Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star-
One without a permanent scar?
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey, hey (mmm)
She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey, hey (yeah)
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane
Told a story about a man who was too afraid to fly so he never did land
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find?
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken?
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance, five-hour phone conversation?
The best soy latte that you ever had and me
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star,
One without a permanent scar?
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself?
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
And did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day?
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
And did you fall for a shooting star, fall for a shooting star?
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
And now you're lonely looking for yourself out there.
I love this song, It makes me feel Happy and melancholic and more feelings 😅 i cant explain ❤
in my opinion one of the most beautiful original songs ever
One of the best songs ever written.
I love this song. My mom loved Train. She always reminded us that he grew up in Erie, PA. My mom and dad loved to spend time there. We played this song at her funeral. It gave us a moment to laugh and remember how wonderful she was.
A classical masterpiece ❤️
i love someone who likes this song
I always called this song poetry in motion because the storytelling and the words are sooo mesmerizing!
it's is by the best written song I have ever heard. I love it still I am hoping on a wing and a prayer, to make it to the Forum in 3 days. In a wheelchair. Would be my first show since. I!! I dunno!! Can't stand for even a second so I dunno how I will be let alone everyone around me! Oh my would love to hear this live !
My husband bought me one of his concert CD's for Christmas and I have listened to it sooooo much since then. He sounds awesome live. I don't know what you people are smoking...this guy is awesome.

Last night, I was thinking about my mother who passed away 2 years ago and our happier times and how much I miss her, I dont know why but all day I just kept thinking I want to download this song. Now I found out through the comments that it was written when he dreamt of his mother who passed away. I hope she misses me too.
In my opinion....The best song of the decade!!! This guy can really sing!! Not to mention write a great ditty!!!!
When someone makes comments of his BELOVED mother then even I BELEIVE.
For I LOVED my mother
one of the most poignant songs of our time. no matter what haters might say, this song cuts DEEP. i find pat's delivery mesmerizing because it's clear the subject matter is incredibly personal and emotional yet he manages to put on a heart-wrenching performance that nearly brings me to tears. i love the song and i REALLY LOVE this performance. great job!
this song is written for pat's mom .. great lyric and story behind it .. one of my most favorite songs of all time

One of my all time faves, first time i've heard the acoustic version, brilliant.
This song is so beautiful in so many ways
after ten years, he still sounds great.
i genuinely have never been in such awe of a singer until now and my spectrum goes as far as classical. My god, I actually have no words..... speechless.
I got teary eyed in public last night at their concert when Pat sang this one. I don't do that in public. Mom approved tho 🙏🤗
Have always loved this and the creators, TY!!!
John Stamos and Howie Mandel are great together ❤
IMHO , One of the top ten songs of the genre.
this is the most beautiful song I ever heard. the lyrics are brilliant ♥
Best song ever
Howie Mandel is a pretty good guitar player...
Hahaha you seriously got me for a second 😂 I was legit like "Holy shit is that really?!"
He looks exactly like him pretty much 😂

Saw train in concert 2 years ago
I think they are just as good live as they are on cd
I’ve loved this song for so long and didn’t know it was about his mom before reading the comments. Now I’m sobbing, thanks
One of the most contrived "unplugged"-style videos I have seen.
And I love it, because.
One of the best written song.

You sang this in my home. You will always be in my mind, Never say never. Reeko
Favorite song. Forever will be
My best friend passed several years ago. He loved Train. Hope Heaven isn't overrated because he deserves it to be everything he imagined. 🤍
This guy is classic Not one of the pop award winners can hold a candle to him .
It's the first time I really heard and understood this line "Too afraid to fly so he never did land" What a profound way of saying "You don't know if you don't try , at least that's my interpretation.
"reminds me that there's time to change.."
Rip mom and grandmom love u both miss u both so much already!!!!!! Ty for this appreciate it!!!! OF COURSE THIS SONG HAS SO DIFF MEANING NOW, BUT ALL GREAT MEMORIES!!!!!! BIG LUV FROM PHILLY PA!!!!! 👋
whenever someone says train is trash i just remind them of this song
this song is about his mother who died of cancer let's get enough like's so he notice's how much respect and love we have for him and his mother
this song always grounds me whenever I'm feeling uneasy! death will take me before i stop listening to this beautiful song Train gave to all of us :)
I don't know if this is what you are asking but best I can tell the guitar is an 8 series Taylor which is recognizable by the inlay on the neck. The back and sides are made of Indian Rosewood with a Sitka Spruce top. It is probably an 814ce which is the Grand Auditorium.
Nossa , essa música é tão linda, serve pra vários momentos da sua vida, momentos triste e felizes, pra vc estar estar com a pessoa que ama .
seen this band live in the UK this year now going to travle to the us to see them again
Pat has a great live voice
This song kicks ass and they nailed it.
Way better that his "hey soul sister" live version..
Who the hell listens to soul sister... lol
Beautiful song.
I love it when they do this with Howie Mendel on guitar and backup vocals.
mikespiano190 he's apart of the actual band
mikespiano190 That's not Howie Mandel, its Jimmy Stafford. He's an original band member from when they started 20 years ago.
One of the best songs ever written...beautiful..
his voice sounds much higher outside of the studio
Awesome song 🤘🏴❤️

This is good song about love
Yeah he write it for his mother
I know how much this song means to you since you wrote it about your mom and it is just beautiful!
Doesn't this man look better with age?
men age like wine. women age like milk.....
+Nick Pelletier not true. most men get old and fat and bald by 35, while a lot of women still look great
Who cares? I dont sleep with men. Young chix rule all!!!!
+Jeffrey D
yes because the world revolves around you and who you f***
Which one?
10 years later. what a song
Didn't know Howie mandel is a guitarist
michael pasicolan He's not (well, maybe he is - but not on this clip). That's Jimmy Stafford, guitarist for Train
+Scott Howard It's a joke lol
+michael pasicolan You truly are the master of copy pasting jokes (with a twist)! :) #goodforyou

+michael pasicolan No, Howie Mandel is the singer for Disturbed
