    Spinal disc herniation is an injury to the cushioning and connective tissue between vertebrae, usually caused by excessive strain or trauma to the spine. It may result in back pain, pain or sensation in different parts of the body, and physical disability. The most conclusive diagnostic tool for disc herniation is MRI, and treatment may range from painkillers to surgery. Protection from disc herniation is best provided by core strength and an awareness of body mechanics including posture.[medical citation needed]
    When a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge out beyond the damaged outer rings, the disc is said to be herniated.
    Disc herniation is frequently associated with age-related degeneration of the outer ring, known as the anulus fibrosus, but is normally triggered by trauma or straining by lifting or twisting. Tears are almost always postero-lateral (on the back of the sides) owing to the presence of the posterior longitudinal ligament in the spinal canal.[1] A tear in the disc ring may result in the release of chemicals causing inflammation, which can result in severe pain even in the absence of nerve root compression.

      @@jasonshamoon7427 From my own experience with muscle spasms, mine mostly where located at the lumber spine.
      My mid back would start getting extremely tight and that was the warning sign before the muscle spasm would hit. Then if I didn't lie down the muscle spasm would hit the lumber spine so badly it would have me on the ground.
      Been times I couldn't move for 4 days because of the onset on them. But mine is brought on by to much movement. Best method I found is once the warning sign hits, lay down on your side and straighten your entire body out, then after 5 minutes go into a fecal position. Tends to stop the muscles from going into spasm.
      I am awaiting more surgery but it's my go to method for stopping them.

      @@kalani4057 thank. Kind of the same thing. Tight mid back. Entire lumbar would lock up. Muscles would flare up. It really is horrible. Didn’t think that would be such a big issue with this injury. I’m thinking the body recognizes it as a form of instability and wants to protect itself, but yea it really doesn’t allow you to move much. It gets pretty demoralizing. Over time it does calm down. I’m a full year in my case. Just now I’m able to stand and cook more. Still can’t bend or twist. Still horrible low back pain that easily flared up. Prednisone worked to calm some stuff down, but the only true thing that works is laying down. A fusion could be in my future, but I am still learning and trying to see if my ruptured disc can heal, and allow me to gain more freedom. Any more thoughts would be appreciated. Take care all.

      @@jasonshamoon7427 Great you are able to now stand and cook more, that in itself is a win. I can't stand for more than a minute before retreating to the sofa to "Reset" my back.
      I had a severe injury which knocked most of my discs out of place. I know myself how demoralising it can be. I am currently on MST Continus 15mg (Morphine twice a day), Baclofen 10mg (Four times a day), Naproxen 500mg (Three times a day), Pregablin (Three times a day) and it just takes the edge off enough to allow me to walk.
      They are currently going to put rods in my back but I am determined to get back to surfing, scuba diving.
      Best advice keep pushing your doctors if you need stronger pain relief, take it easy no shame on being easy on yourself. Trust me ANYONE who pushes through severe muscle spasms has great inner strength. Pain is no easy feat to tackle.
      Hope all goes well for you but even small wins by even cooking more is a step in the right direction.

    I can totally relate to a lot of these comments below. I have a herniated disc in the cervical and L4 with a pinched nerve. Along with the back pain I’ve got horrific legs spasms to my left calf, both thighs muscles and muscle wasting. I’ve got terrible pain to my hands which cause me to shake plus a stomach that makes terrible noises.
    All neuro avenues have been checks and are normal. Who knew your back could control basically every part of the body.

    Story of my life! I herniated my disk last year in August. I didn't start feeling better until March. I started feeling better and I thought I was home free. I re-herniated my disk this year on August 5th and I've been in the same pain I was last year. OMG Lord! PLEASE SAVE ME!

    • @jasonshamoon7427
      @jasonshamoon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I feel your pain. Completely herniated my disc last October. Horrific back pain and spasms along with the feeling of just wanting to amputate your leg because the nerve pain is something unbearable that lasts all day everyday. I kept working and standing for a solid 10 hours a day. I literally couldn’t hold back the tears. It eventually went into both legs. Stopped exercising completely and went full plant based diet for 6-7 months. Nerve pain actually improved a lot. Primarily had the back pain. Still couldn’t bend. 7 months in I decided to have surgery. My nerve was purple. Surgery actually brought back my nerve pain because it was irritated during the surgery. Never really got relief. 2 months post surgery I was bedridden. Couldn’t stand for 3-5 minutes without my whole back spasming and legs going numb. I lost 20 pounds of hard earned muscle during this period. I’m not sure when it happened but I reherniated the disc so I have the horrible back pain still and nerve tingles in both legs. It’s been one year of my life that has been taken away with this injury. Total sacrifice is necessary for healing. Unfortunately life gets in the way of ideally treating this. So we must do what we can to manage the pain while also trying to accelerate the healing. I’m learning that the body will heal on its own timeline. As long as we don’t pick the scab. Mimimize the inflammation as much as possible. The body is already in an inflammatory response. If you want to continue some form of exercise, I encourage walking as much as possible. Avoid inclines. Also do a tremendous amount of work in the extension or prone position (lying on your stomach). Variations of the Superman exercise. Eat 90% plant based. It makes an incredible difference. It’s the only way to keep the body in a healing rhythm while also controlling the inflammation. From everything I read and been through so far it seems like a year to be almost normal, and maybe up to 2 years to feel comfortable doing anything. It just consumes your whole life. I feel your pain and sacrifice. It’s not living, especially if you’re an active person. People tend to not believe the amount of pain and limitation we go through. I don’t complain though. Just keep showing up. Believe it or not, we are the pioneers of going through this. The internet along with us going through it will help one another. Stay strong and focused. This is very tough.

      I hurt my back in August/September as well. Went to a useless GP who gave me general back pain exercises which are terrible for a disc bulge. She only did one bs disc herniation test when I went in for a consultation despite explaining symptoms. I had to ask for MRI few weeks later after no improvement to find out I had two disc bulges at L4 L5 L5 S1. I was getting better but I reaggrevated last month I think I got too confident. I went swimming and travelled twice. Those are the only 'strenous' activities I did last month. I thought I was super careful so I don't know why those seemingly normal activities aggrevated my back. I'm back to uncomfortable/painful sitting and general back and leg weakness. Going to Ortho on Friday cause I just can't anymore. It's a living nightmare this thing. People don't understand. They think you are being lazy. It's taken such a toll on my mental health. Sorry for rant.

      @S yes, and often. An ablation is where medicine and numbing agents are injected into the joint/nerve of the affected disc and error. The relief from this ranges from 6 months to a year depending on the severity of the herniation. I have one scheduled for this month and I cannot wait as I’ve been bound to the bed when I am not working, and on days when I can move around the pain is horrible. I really want to get my back checked. I'm not really that healthy and especially my neck and my back. I've had neck pain and lower back for like 2 years now and recently I had to flex my back a bit more than I'd like to. So I had a sharp pain in my back and it gradually went away and I had to sit for 3 hours to do homework and when I got up, that area where the pain had been before was feeling uncomfortable and I don't know how to put this. It felt like a little bit of pain. And the region where I had the lower back pain is um I don't know but it feels numb but the sensation is still there. It feels like fhe more I bend my body towards my knees, the more feeling I get. But I don't think my body wants that because it doesn't allow me to freely bend down. And yeah I've been having some unusual bowl movement. Like I'm having bowl movements more frequently than before and I don't knew if I'm getting healthy or I'm getting worse every day passing. And I dont have difficulty walking and I don't have pain in my legs. If someone reads this, please say something at least supportive because I don't think my mom(she is the only one with me now. My father and my sister are at a different town and at a different country and can't come here due to lockdown) will take me to a doctor to get me checked because she thinks that it'll waste a lot of money. Or someone who knows whats wrong with me, please tell me if this insanely serious or just serious or just something I can fix by home remedies. Also I'm 14

    • @jasonshamoon7427
      @jasonshamoon7427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey krishna, do yourself a favor and don’t do what hurts. So if bending hurts, don’t do it. Bend from your knees. Also, lay on your stomach as much as possible. If your back is really bothering you, avoid all positions that irritate as much as possible (sitting, bending, slouching in a chair, etc.) switch between hot and cold compress if you want. Heat works to relax the muscles, and blood flowing freely. If it feels serious, it takes time.

Yesterday I fell down in the kitchen I felt sudden pain on my lower back right side of it.i was thinking even to call 999 but after fee minutes I was managed to get up.
    I wonder that I get lower back pains is it because of the way I sit in the bed and also does that cause hernia as well?
    A doctor said I have got hernia on both sides and I need an surgery operation.
    I'm not cynical but I live on my own if I go ahead with hernia operation than my life would be very difficult.
    I also have a 3 years old toddlers I wont be able to lift him up.
    I wonder that they way we sit in the bed after woken up does that cause hernia problems?

      Over 4 weeks in. My back is better, but I didn’t do the physical therapy and my disc bulge cause a pinched sciatic nerve, prolonging the healing process weeks more.
      *what I should have done that would have healed me weeks early?*
      Do the exercises/stretches. See a physical therapist if possible. Buy new insoles for your shoes. Buy back/leg brace. Helped tremendously, and should have done it weeks ago. Drink lots of water. Stretch when you wake up and before bed. Don’t overcompensate.
      The pain you feel in the stretches are good.
      Don’t avoid it.

      It's common to turn to the internet for information, but self-diagnosing can often lead to unnecessary anxiety and worry. If you're experiencing back pain, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional, such as a doctor or orthopedic specialist, for a proper evaluation and diagnosis. They can provide you with the right guidance, treatment options, and alleviate any concerns you may have about your back pain. Remember, seeking professional advice is the best course of action for your health.

      I'm so sorry. my theory for my own case is that when my back muscles are not working because of disc and back issues, my stomach and front muscles of my body start over compensating. I think that's why, at least in my case, my stomach tenses up insanely. Also feels like someone kicked me. What helps is to exercise the back muscles so they can help take part of the pressure off. also back of thigh muscles. I hope this might help you..
