Custard apple season is once again upon us and because the flesh is so soft and juicy, we can't hang them up as we do with fruits like apples, pears and grapes.
Richard brought me over some suet cages and I'm trialling them with tonight's sweet treat.
We are finally getting numbers down and following some hard releases and orphans going off to creche we have gone from 119 bats in care to a meagre 32.
A walk in the park.

When I was volunteering at Tolga, we often gave pieces of custard apple to the tubies. I had never heard of custard apples before that!

Batzilla , If you need to make the holes bigger . Try forcing a round rod or dowel through them to elongate some of them. This may leave the plastic coating intact to protect the bats' tongues .

I have some of these as well. I’m going to give that ago. They are designed for birds beak so it makes it hard for the flying foxes to access it.

@@richardknevitt4615 You can soften the plastic by mildly heating it with a heat gun to prevent it cracking.
You can also pinch adjacent vertical bars together with pliers with tubing on the jaws to protect the plastic. This will elongate the neighbouring hole
