I remember vividly how betrayed I felt when I named the rival "???", since I thought it was some kind of riddle where I had to memorize what it said during the fight, only to be stuck constantly battling "???". Silver was my first Pokémon game

What is scarier? Time-travel being created yet kept secret by Bill, or the system being so ubiquitous people don't even think about it twice? "Oh don't mind the big machine, we use it to send Pokémon through time, whatevs."

One cool detail about the rival is that his Golbat evolves into a Crowbat specifically because he starts to understand that being kind to your pokemon is a good idea and that evolution has to do with the friendship value

I love the idea of Gold (or I guess Silver in this case) opting to just, delete someones number the second theyre not useful. Real Bad Bitch energy.
This video is much better than your previous ones. Having an actual script that you're working off of really ups the quality of the voice-over.

@@AgentXRifle The dragon fang is useless because it doesn't boost dragon moves due to a programming error. It's actually the dragon scale that has the effect.
Pokemon Gen 2 is so incredibly broken. And it is far less broken then what came before it.

@@GiantBluebird And that honestly just sucks. The industry was clearly just not ready for them if for example some versions fo Final Fantasy 1 literally had over half their intended item-effects missing or somehow botched.
I was playing this in the background and looked back at 23:57 and took heavy psychic damage from thinking about doing a living dex with the old pc
Pro-tip! Charizard + Golduck can learn every HM in the game, so you only need to have two dedicated HM users while traveling.
I feel that the fourth badge is usually the best cutting off point for taking advantage of the experience boost of trades. Disobedience makes it tricky doing it before the 1st or 2nd and the 3rd is good, but if you're solo-ing, it's best to wait until the 4th.
I used to have 1 pokemon overleveled to when I first played pokemon silver now I level all my pokemon up
The best thing about the rival is his postgame battle in Mt. Moon and the recurring battle you can have with him every Monday and Wednesday at the entrance to the Elite Four his Golbat has finally evolved into Crobat, proving that he's actually did start treating his Pokemon well.

If you ignore legendaries and starters (aka Lugia, Totodile and the 3 dogs), I agree. It kinda shows how weak gen 2 is when it comes to new Pokémon.
Im one of the jerks who corrected your pronunciations in the last video. Your explanation was very heartwarming, as I can relate to learning a second language. And then the end of the video happened and I absolutely lost it! Brilliant. It can really be difficult sometimes… good on you for giving it your best shot.
I love useless evolution items from this gem, like the Upgrade and Dragon Scale, and even the Sun Stone, which is only obtained by winning a broken Bug Contest... Don't get me wrong, Gen 2 was my favorite because nostalgia, but God I forgot how broken it was!!! And don't get me started on stall strats in this game!
Facts and the game tends to restart all the time I bought a used one at a local store it restarted and kept on doing the sane thing then a few years after that a basically brand new version and guess what it kept restarting after I had 217 Pokémon so i gave up and sold the games and gameboy games I had including all the Pokémon games
@@Jac735 oh I know why: the internal battery ran dry. The internal battery had to work harder on GSC because of the day/night cycle, so they didn't last as long as RBY. I was lucky: I went to my local retro gaming store and they replaced the batteries in all of mine, didn't need to buy new copies!

There is no day and night cycle and no clock like in GSC.

@14:57, I'm right there with you, that Ice Path music is BANGIN'... to me all Gen 2 music is the best (although I do love Gen 3's varying battle themes for Leaders and Rival fights)...but by far that Ice Path/cave music from Gen 2 is my favorite all-time.

Finally, someone confirms my suspicions about Cool Trainer Nick. Eventually, I would just reset the game after walking around the park and seeing him there. Very frustrating.
I agree with you about the rival character for this generation. I always liked him better than Blue.

I really really really love the soundtracks on this game, the battles, the super effective sounds, throwing pokeball sounds, i LOVE the colors and sprites of the pokemon... i think it is soo amazing😍😍

For someone who's native language isn't English, you did pretty well. The end was just a fluke.
It's actually an example of a quirk in pronunciation in some English words that even I as a native speaker find stupid. I make that mistake sometimes too.

I would advise saving in front of the Red Apricorn tree in Silver and getting a Red Apricorn every day as you work on the other games. The Level Ball is surprisingly overpowered if you use it right, and having several on you is always a good thing.

6:20 man, it took a poketuber whose first language isn't even English to use the term flinch correctly. Everyone keeps saying their pokemon flinched but their pokemon made opponent flinch. Two completely opposite things.
I usually say I got a flinch. I never say my pokemon did it but I also don’t make videos so whatever lol

Your gen 1 video inspired me to try this out. I used your site to complete the gen 1 living dex now sitting comfortably in Pokemon home and I'm working on gen 2. Your site is a huge help especially the dex tracker. I hope you keep going with these.
Loving your videos! Your stuff actually got me back into wanting to do a living dex and also the Master Dex. Your website is also super helpful as well!
Edit: For those who don't know, a Master Dex is catching all Pokémon at thier earliest possible point in the series. For example for Pokémon like Mr. Rime, you must transfer a Mime Jr. from Diamond and Pearl, into Sword and Shield and evolve it into a Galar Mr. Mime and then Mr. Rime.

Love the website ! I wanted to complete my old silver game like in the old days and used it to track my pokedex, so good. I specifically love the catching information, constantly referenced it, and the French version was very helpful as my game was in French. Finally, finished what I was able to complete with only one game boy today, your work was a great help :D Also, there needs to be a section on how to catch the legendary beasts, lost at least 5h on it trying random technique of the internet ^^' Ended up reading disassembled code and accusing my game to be bugged. In the end, mixed and mashed techniques into my own and found all 3 under 10 min :)
I watched your pokemon 1 living dex playlist in 1 day and loved it! I played diamond 2 month ago and moon when it came out.
OMG such nostalgia! I LOVE Remoraid! So much that as soon as I got the phone call I would literally spend the full day fishing and filling entire boxes with them just to hear them cry over and over! It's a shame that I never got a shiny one tough... Best regards!

This generation has so much charm, felt like there was so much to uncover and explore especially in a pre-widespread internet age. I love gen 2, the first Pokémon game I played was Red, but the first one I owned was Gold. The battery died on me from so much playing so it restarted everytime I turned it off or the actual batteries of the gb color died. Such a fun game, and if I remember correctly I could play with my team of gold in stadium 2.

A few years ago, I played gens I and II with the intent to complete the pokedex on Crystal. I traded up pokes I needed from RBY, trainer fly'd a Mew into existence, caught my first shiny (random pidgey lol), and even found code online to unlock the GS Ball event. I had so much fun I am considering going back and doing it again... but making a living dex. This video was great, I really enjoyed your journey.
