Celeste is such a great speedrunning game in that no one manages to do perfect speedruns. Even WR has plenty of small hiccups here and there, and some deaths as well. This results in playthroughs not being TAS-like, you'll see the individual runners' strengths and weaknesses. Also, grats on WR.

At first I was like "oh nice he died where I have died before too" but then I realized I've died in EVERY possible place on all of these levels, so it wasn't that special

I bought celeste a few months ago and I've almost 100% the game ( All I have left are the golden strawberries) and I've been speedrunning a little bit too (I don't really take it seriously I just do it every once and a while and the best time I've ever gotten is in hour) I'm glad people are still speedrunning and still paying attention to this very VERY good game.
Just finished Celeste casually for the first time (13 hours while trying to get most strawberries and playing a couple of B-sides), and then decided to watch my first speedrun so I don't get spoiled. I expected fast movements but this completely mind blowing. Congratz!
@@CarbonTetrafluoridesp3 Celeste has a huge load of advanced tech. I'm guessing by floor Dash you mean wavedashing (and hypers and supers). On top of that he uses lots of wall bounces (the technique learned at the end of 7B). He maintains momentum with bunnyhops (jumping right when he lands). The really high level stuff is ultras and corner boosts. ultras are essentially a type of wave Dash with a very specific timing that lets you gain far more momentum. And corners boost are a technique that maintain and in fact gain momentum. They work going into top three pixels of a corner and jumping while grabbing. Finally there's stuff like reverses and demodashes. Speedrunning Celeste is essentially quite complex

It would be really cool to see devs of some popular speedrunning games make speedrun modes someday. Like its every level in one continues run with no cutscenes to interrupt the flow. Thus allowing for smaller times and fewer rules to have to worry about and mini mechanics like pausing and skipping a scene just to shave off a few seconds. Congrats not eh WR btw, fun to watch the completion for Celeste WR
I’m surprised a game that’s been out for this long still has room for improvement. I thought the only the only thing left would be micro optimizations and possible undiscovered route changes. Knowing how hard it is to perform all of the tricks does make it a lot more understandable though… also… I understand the pain of making a mistake in a speedrun :(

I'm a casual runner for any% (pb is 56:03) and honestly, seeing the parts I do a bit behind the same pace and then the parts where he saves over minutes in a single section just bewilders me. (I'm looking at you celestial resort), good job man
Yeah me too. For me, celestial resort is f*cking hell... I find it harder than farewell. (I've died more in 1 run of celestial resort than in farewell holy f-)

This is my first time watching a Celeste speedrun, I just finished the main story and my god, this literally looks like freaken smash bros melee he’s moving so fast
dont be! i still remember when i broke into sub 50 the first time shortly after i actually tried and improve and just today i beat my PB again with a 40:41... and comparing against pros doesnt do you good but its always a nice watch to see what is actually humanly possible in this game^^
@@CharlieGreasby playing up to the standard of ur sum of bests during a run is really hard. I agree its possible and will prob happen eventually but that doesnt take away from how incredibally hard it is.
Celeste any% is really active. I'm not sure why you'd think it was dead. I think the very top players like Marlin and TGH have been fairly inactive but that doesn't mean the category is dead
On one hand, this is an extremely skilled player doing amazing things. On the other hand, u skip the berries and character conversations which makes me feel bad/mad.
I remember the Dev for getting over it saying "the speedrunner looks at it admires it and then smashes it over there knee" (this is loosely it) But yeah it may maddening but they definitely played this way to many times
I don't know if this is sarcastic or not, ngl.. but in case it isn't, prologue doesn't allow dashes until the crow shows the mechanic (and it's a skippable cutscene)

or in another case, madeline never had anxiety and manuevers through time and space while climbing the mountain at indescribable speed

i'm coming up on 5000 hours on the game. i've been playing the game since 27th january 2018 so close to 3 years now
Farewell & 8c? Game took me 40hrs first time. Im at 500ish hrs and 100k+ deaths on main save.
