  • what's up everyone today i'm showing you how to make a pair of diy wooden nunchuks or nunchaku with a Shou sugi ban finish. this is a fun, and simple build that any can do in a hour or two and come out with a really nice, functional pair of nunchuks that you can instantly start training with. Btw this build cost only about $5 to make so this is also one of the cheapest projects to make.
    In my research for this video, I came across a video by linus nunchaku which is a great video and he also has some great videos where he teaches you how to use them as well. so definitely go check him out: / @linusnunchaku

    [Native Son Wood Art!] I'm old school with a new school twist! Here on my channel I make "How to" videos of various woodworking and secret wood projects that I create at my home in South Florida.
    I focus on being time efficient, cost effective and being able to make these projects in limited space because i understand that your time is precious and not everyone is a millionaire with 12 acres to build whatever, some of us only have a patio in an apartment to make the thing we want but that doesn't have to stop you from making something incredible.
    What is secret wood? its the fusion of a natural material and a completely synthetic medium. natural wood combined with epoxy resin, either clear or color with some kind of ink or pigment. some examples of these would be hybrid blanks used for pens, or knife scale, river table tops, waterfall tables,and secret wood pendants to name a few.
    My hope is that my videos can inform and inspire you to go out and create something special.

    Some sweet chucks! I have been in the martial arts since I was a kid and nunchucks were my very first weapon. Great build!

      Hey Thanks man, yeah these were a fun build, though I'm more partial to the bo staff myself, think this would make a good video for you to do too

    Great work. I like your new sander. I myself prefer foam nunchucks 😋

    Good alternative with tying off the cord by melting it. Hardest part is hiding the knot. A great alternative to paracord is horse hair which is also historically accurate. There have been historical claims horse hair cords were able to stop blades... I wouldn't test it though...

      Thanks for the suggestion, yeah testing horse hair against a blade probably wouldn't go well haha

    You used a small chisel to make a groove between the holes. Is there an even easier way that you can recommend? I've never done wood DIYs.

      Sure, the simplest way would be yo not add it at all. Its not necessary for the functionality its more esthetics than anything. However if you still want the groove you can try a sharp small knife to carve out the groove. Hope that helps 👍

    One question, wouldn't the blowtorch make the surface of the wood fragile, easier to dent or crack on impact??

    • @MakerCuisine
      @MakerCuisine  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes and no really. When you torch it you're essentially burning away the softer material leaving the harder material behind but this is dependent also on the wood you're using. Also it depends on if you're applying a hardenable finish or not as well

      @@MakerCuisine I'm using courbaril sapwood, and I want to do it exactly like yours, with oil, without any other product that ends up varnishing because it would make the wood more slippery

    • @MakerCuisine
      @MakerCuisine  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Austin_Meadow using that wood you shouldn't have any problems, its a hard wood and will be less prone to warping and be more durable overall.
