Thank you for this review. I bought this from Dell. Is the operating system Windows 11 home located on the SSD or HDD? Mine seems to be located on the HDD. Why would that be?
It should be on the SSD. Tuen off the PC, pop the side cover off and pull the power cable off that HDD. Can you still boot into windows? That 2 TB HDD should be empty. If you are running on that HDD you should see windows files on it and the PC should be super slow.
Do you have a dedicated graphics card? Have you tried to remove it and just see if the PC would boot with the integrated graphics card? I would try to re-seat the ram, unplug the power cord , press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, connect the power cord and wait two minutes and then hit the power button see if we have a screen .

I just put my SoundBlaster Z (red metal covered) by the 4060Ti, and it fits. There is not a whole lot of space, but the two cards are not touching each other. Not sure on the long run if that will be an issue since the GPU fans are now very close to the back side of the SoundBlaster.

What they told you is exactly what’s listed under the dell user manual, however if you go to Dell.com and select the customizable 8960 you can clearly select a 4 TB m2 drive and you still have two additional Sata drive option where I am pretty sure you can put whatever size drive you want and you still have one more m.2 slot availalbe. Looking at Amazon and Newegg right now, the 8960 is listed with a 1 TB SSD and one 12 TB HDD combo. Walmart has one 8960 listed with an 8 TB SSD + 12 TB HDD, no details on it. Not sure if this is a 4 TB m2 + 4 TB SATA SSD + 12 TBHDD or some other mix.

it`s an internal antenna, I would try to move the PC around if you can, se if flipping the case around or mving it to the top of the desk or under the desk would make a difference. Other options is removing the internal antenna and replace with this: www.amazon.com/Deal4GO-External-FV8D6-Replacement-Alienware/dp/B0CCDG84VF Additionally once you have external connectors , you can get a much better signal with this antenna: www.ebay.com/itm/304711625603 Hope this helps !
It’s not, that the first like has two little stick antenna what you have to attach to your PC box. It will be better than the internal antenna but the eBay antenna has a longer cable so you have a freedom to move the actual antenna around to get the best possible signal out of your WiFi. The first item we would use just to convert the internal antenna to external antenna. The second item is optional but in my experience it can double your WiFi speed compared to the stick antennas. Get the first item see how it goes , if you are not happy get the second one and used that to get a better signal.

My pleasure!
I have loved my XPS 8920 for years. It's a real workhorse. I have to get a new one now because I was told it will not handle Windows 11. 😒That's too bad because it works perfectly. I am a creator, and use several graphics programs. I open it routinely to clean out the dust. My 2 T hard drive doesn't vibrate or click. I wish there was a way to upgrade this computer to use WIN 11.
Officially it`s not supported but I am pretty sure it will run Windows 11 just fine and it’s also free to upgrade from 10. to 11
If you have a full backup just go to Microsoft and use the first option described in this video:
th-cam.com/video/JqJo45bNepo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vsjCOpuXEIIPOEvR&t=1467
Windows 11 installation assistant:
This is also called in place upgrade, your Windows 10 will be upgraded to W11 with all the software’s, all the settings and all the data like nothing happened.
It will ask you if you want to keep all your apps and data as is, make sure it`s select that option.
I upgraded at least 200+ computers from 10 to 11 at this point with the update assistant and hardly ever ran into any issue. I am planning to make a short video on this topic next week.
maybe upgrade the 2tb hdd to a ssd
and reinstall win11 on it

Thank you for this review. I bought this from Dell. Is the operating system Windows 11 home located on the SSD or HDD? Mine seems to be located on the HDD. Why would that be?
It should be on the SSD. Tuen off the PC, pop the side cover off and pull the power cable off that HDD. Can you still boot into windows? That 2 TB HDD should be empty. If you are running on that HDD you should see windows files on it and the PC should be super slow.
The OS is on the SSD. Thank you!@@Scott.The.IT.Guy.
You are welcome! @@jamesdai3953

Awesome, thank you!
New 8960 has " No signal to monitor". Any video on this issue. Been happy with Dell till now. Am waiting for response from. Dell.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I know zero inside of PC. "Dedicated graphic card??? I assume so, whatever is inside the build.(Intel Graphics 770. I shall seek out what graphic card is & follow you're instructions . Thank you so much for super fast response. Welp , here goes nothing
Sounds like you have no dedicated gpu if you only have Intel H770, Just try to power cycle the pc first see what happens. Are you using the HDMI or Display port? You can also try to hook up the ox to your TV with the HDMI cable .
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Existing monitor known to be good, however I did try another monitor an it also displays a "no signal". As for cable connections "VGA monitor port/ VGA-HDMI adaptor / dells HDMI-Display cable. Haven't tried ur other suggestions cause I don't know my way around inside. My biggest fear is turning pc on & off, it's been probably 5 times. Thank you so much
Got it! You should have a response from Dell pretty quickly. I usually do a phone call to their support and in a few minutes I am able to talk to someone to help troubleshooting and if that fails set up an on-site tech or get a replacement PC.
Does a 30 or 40 seriea double slot card cover the only other 4x PCIe slot?
I just put my SoundBlaster Z (red metal covered) by the 4060Ti, and it fits. There is not a whole lot of space, but the two cards are not touching each other. Not sure on the long run if that will be an issue since the GPU fans are now very close to the back side of the SoundBlaster.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. it'll be ok as I had a music PCIe card longterm next to a 2080 TI ULTRA.
I now await Dell to make me a deal for a 1000W Delta PSU upgrade from their 750W Liteon which is all they now stock but is noisy and not fit to work with as a Desktop Premium PC. They have lied so much already and even replaced the PSU 2 times with same Liteon and same issues but last one they even put an Acbel sticker on top of the Liteon one = fraud!
I want to use it for programming and gaming I found on Amazon prime days a deal for 1200€ is this an good price ? Dell XPS 8960 Desktop-PC, 14th Gen Intel Core i7-14700 Prozessoren, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, NVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6, Windows 11 PRO, Wi-Fi 6E,

Did some research, this config listed above is 1.649,01 € at Dell in Germany as of today, so yes it is a good price!

Yes Germany the thing is I rlly want to be able to play games like rust valorant ect sometimes with friends too and don’t know if I should look for a gaming pc in same price range do u think it makes a difference? Thx for the insanity fast reply btw that’s a sub haha
Give me as many details as you can. What size monitor/ resolution are you playing with? Are you thinking about getting a custom build pc versus an OEM Pc like this Dell XPS. Are you thinking about a gaming laptop vs gaming desktop? Are you aware of the potential Intel cpu failure issue? Are you open to go with an AMD CPU?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Im looking for a gaming desktop. I guess if I want to put an Arctic Freezer 36 it would be an easy improvement?
I don’t think so, but will see!
The second part of this video will be out first week in April where I test the same pc with an advance tower air cooler.
Third part probably will be out soon after that where I will upgrade the cpu to i9-14900k and repeat all tests with three different cooler.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I ask because I just returned their 8960 w/ i7-13700K, liquid cooled, because the pump emitted a continual ANNOYING 120Hz whine, while the 2 case mounted cooling fans were nearly inaudible. I will see what they put on the CPU with the 'advanced air cooled' option. I thought an Arctic cooler would be simple to install if need be...
Only problem we run into with none Dell parts regards of coolers is the adjustable fan speed. Sounds dumb but a lot of the fans are just running on the highest rmp and have no way to resolve that.
Hey Scott, bought the 8960 w/ 4090 and i7-13700 (non-K), 16gb ram after watching this video and it's been a bit underwhelming in games barely hitting 100fps on high settings.. 3DMark is giving me a score of 24000 (approx 31,000 GPU, 11,000 CPU). Is this consistent with your experience?
th-cam.com/video/HFBwlwSPwy0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=b2zY3hB5OGHKm0am&t=90
Something is off, if you are looking at my numbers with the same CPU (13700 non-K) with the Dell standard air cooler I was getting 12400, with the Dell advanced tower cooler or Dell Liquid cooler I was getting 13200-13300 with the same CPU. Which cooler do you have? What resolution are you playing?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. it’s their liquid cooled AIO. Wasn’t an option for me. 3440x1440. Do you have an email or discord where I can share some screenshots with you?

Looking at the 8960, chatted with dell and they told me MAX storage is 4TB total???? They said if I purchase it with a 2TB SSD then I can only add a 2TB HDD for backup???? Doesn't sound right, can anyone verify this information?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I really appreciate the reply! When I "chatted" with dell this is what they told me???? So if I purchase it with a 2tb ssd what would be the max HDD I could add as a second, backup, drive
( 6m 0s ) Dell Advisor - Symantak: You can add another 2 TB of HDD
( 6m 51s ) Dell Advisor - Symantak: Total storage has to 4 TB. either 2+2 or just one drive of 4 TB
Confusing and doesn't seem right with a premium build?
@@elknrut Sometimes support is not helpful, all they do is keep repeating what’s in the manual or they are just reading a script as an answer, and they can’t say anything else.
I am 100% sure that if you buy a PC with a 2 or 4 TB SSD you can add any size HDD to it later or any size Sata SSD`s without any problem.
I agree with you ! Appreciate it !
@@elknrut You are welcome!
Do you have to connect the external antenna to make the wifi work? My wifi is really weak without it connected
it`s an internal antenna, I would try to move the PC around if you can, se if flipping the case around or mving it to the top of the desk or under the desk would make a difference. Other options is removing the internal antenna and replace with this:
www.amazon.com/Deal4GO-External-FV8D6-Replacement-Alienware/dp/B0CCDG84VF
Additionally once you have external connectors , you can get a much better signal with this antenna:
www.ebay.com/itm/304711625603
Hope this helps !
@Scott.The.IT.Guy. isnt the ebay one you sent the same as what comes in the box?
It’s not, that the first like has two little stick antenna what you have to attach to your PC box. It will be better than the internal antenna but the eBay antenna has a longer cable so you have a freedom to move the actual antenna around to get the best possible signal out of your WiFi.
The first item we would use just to convert the internal antenna to external antenna.
The second item is optional but in my experience it can double your WiFi speed compared to the stick antennas.
Get the first item see how it goes , if you are not happy get the second one and used that to get a better signal.

I have a question. Should I remove the black covers installed on the graphics board and intake fan?
Are you talking about the rear fan or the RTX card itself?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. This is about the black spacer installed in the place where the intake fan is inside the computer. Thanks to you I was able to solve the problem. Thank you, that's very kind
Glad you were able to fix it.
Used a rebuilt one that works great for a basic PC. only cost 150$ USD
Thanks! Just got one from eBay for $65. It is so quiet! Running some tests now , video will be out tomorrow 😊
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Use an SSD and pull all the drives. Even the DVD. They eat up power. Reapply thermal paste. Use a 500-watt power supply. Adapters are easy to find. Almost any old video card will work. Used leftovers from old PCs. Careful the power supply size not all of them will fit.
Just installed the pump: th-cam.com/video/_98AMFuB--E/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the suggestions! I think I will get an i9 13900K CPU and a larger power supply :)
I'm surprised they're still selling new PC's with mechanical hard drives
I think this is more like a “free gift” :)
When you select a 1TB SSD it automatically adds the 2 TB HDD to it. They probably have stack of these drives high as Mount Everest and this is one way to get rid off them. Regardless, I unplugged it for good.

As a office pc, this one will probably last more than 10 years if you don't upgrade or play with the hardware (which I will, LOL). Yeah, the power supply is not very good if it needs to be replaced.
It is a pretty solid system for sure!
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I forgot to say this is a very nice review. thanks

Dell is what I use.But they do have is terrible power supply.
All these custom size and equipped power supply’s are really making it difficult to do any possible upgrades. On the top of that each model has it`s own custom specs mso they are not inter changeable with other models 😊
If I do face that problem I’ll upgrade to 1000w thanks for the heads up
The xps uses the same motherboard as the Alienware anyways😂 I got that same desktop too with liquid cooling and ssd only 2tb so it should be quiet
Really thinking about the getting the Dell liquid colling kit to see how much it helps VS the basic.
