I had a tape that had this song on it, that I got back in 1977 from a friend that worked for the C&O in Huntington. WV. It had the first two verses on this recording, but didn't have the others. But it did have a third verse that isn't in this recording. It went like this: Her exhaust, boldly tossed, to the April sky was lost. As it mixed with the mist and the cloud. Painted bold yellow gold, in a livery of old, she came streakin' like a beacon, strong and proud.
Chessie Steam Special Theme Lyrics (to the best I can make out): Way back then daring men risked their name and fortunes when They blazed trails via rails to the west By the tracks that they laid down Sprang up all the little towns A young nation's generation's manifest We will celebrate their dream with giant steam machines For the glory of the mighty engine's blast She has served the people so to the people she will go An excitement seein a titan from the past A song will be strummed where the railroad has begun On the tracks that went back far in time To the falls she would call from the cities great and small With a state of celebration all behind As you crossed the land, thousands by your track did stand In the heat; in the dark; in the rain You don't mind a little mud When there's railroad in your blood And you gotta get a shot of Chessie's train Come ride by my side, through memories we'll glide Trains like these seem like keys to our minds You came far back from war on this kind of railroad car Saturday we steamed away as man and wife (Vocalizing till the song is over) If I missed anything, please let me know and I'll edit this comment until it is accurate.
@@TranscontinentalRailfan I mean let me put it this way I could see it happening after the 250th anniversary celebrations of independence considering they seriously considered repainting it twice already by having it in the Reading freight black for a year then putting it into the bicentennial paint scheme. The only reason they decided not to do this was because they felt it was pointless for it to be in the Reading black for just a year if they were going to repaint it afterwards. I think that might be an indication that they wouldn’t necessarily be against that kind of thing. That being said other than the American freedom train paint scheme the paint scheme I would want to see most come to life on a Redding T1 is something that almost got done with 2101 but couldn’t come about because of the round house fire. Apparently it was going to get a Conrail paint scheme for a series of excursions in the Northeast with Conrail and in fact, the Conrail historical society actually has drawings of the concept art of 2101 in Conrail paint. Lionell made an O gauge model of it a few years ago, so technically it isn’t a fantasy paint scheme. I’m a big fan of both late steam era designs (think 1930s and afterwards) and the somewhat modern railroads between today and the steam era such as the Chessie system and Burlington Northern so seeing the two areas of interest, be combined like that is something I absolutely love.
This song is.......beautiful

Would love to see it arranged for steel guitar and bluegrass band
Me too!!
Chessie steam special pretty awesome
Chessie Steam Special Theme Lyrics (to the best I can make out):
Way back then daring men risked their name and fortunes when
They blazed trails via rails to the west
By the tracks that they laid down
Sprang up all the little towns
A young nation's generation's manifest
We will celebrate their dream with giant steam machines
For the glory of the mighty engine's blast
She has served the people so to the people she will go
An excitement seein a titan from the past
A song will be strummed where the railroad has begun
On the tracks that went back far in time
To the falls she would call from the cities great and small
With a state of celebration all behind
As you crossed the land, thousands by your track did stand
In the heat; in the dark; in the rain
You don't mind a little mud
When there's railroad in your blood
And you gotta get a shot of Chessie's train
Come ride by my side, through memories we'll glide
Trains like these seem like keys to our minds
You came far back from war on this kind of railroad car
Saturday we steamed away as man and wife
(Vocalizing till the song is over)

“By the tracks they lay down Sprang up farm and mill and town”
“A giant steam machine”
“Her first run would be done where the railroad first begun”
@@woodsmanweekly what's "With a state of celebration all behind?" supposed to be?
@@GreatLakesSongs I don’t know
Someone, some talented artist needs to do a good cover of this song, to keep it alive and in the memory of the young, and the young of tomorrow.
This song gets me excited for the 200th anniversary of the B&O Railroad event that will take place in 2027
Kind of makes me hope that 2100 will get painted in a similar paint scheme like this for that occasion
@@lucasquintanilla1673 It may cost a lot to repaint 2100 twice, but I think as long as significant revenue comes in from the future excursions, maybe.
