Regarding iodine, I was making sure to use salt with iodine because of an understanding that a lack of iodine was detrimental to the thyroid. Is that not correct for hypo?

I thought the same thing and couldn’t understand that I always felt not so great after I would take it…I’m so glad that I found this channel… I have been weaning my self off of Armour .. I was taking 45 mg and now down to 15.. it’s going on 6 weeks… my doctor thought that I would feel worst if I lowered the amount but I wanted to do it anyways.. I really think that my initial results were from a low ferritin level even though my doctor said that I’m in the normal range but it’s very low.. these specialists don’t seem to know what they are doing and only looking at numbers . I’m hoping that I can at least take a low dose if I can’t get completely off.. the only symptoms that I have been experiencing is some fatigue at times but I’m still able to do my workouts everyday and actually been able to lift more weights…

New update I had to go back on my thyroid meds..My ferritin got really low and I was always feeling like I was in a fog. I’m feeling much better and am taking a no heme iron supplement.. Maybe because I have been on my meds much too long to get off.🤷‍♀️

I am already a small boned petite woman. I have lost a lot of weight. My shoulder blades are showing. This scares me.

My doctor put me on Levothyroxine and I took it more then a year and I noticed that I lost a lot of weight. Also I am not educated about what is T3,T4 and I just recently decided to stop the medication because I noticed many different things on my body. He told me to go to have a test bone Density. After I listen to this doctor and I am glad I found this website. My body does not need Levothyroxine because I am totally healthy and I feel healthy.

Great so someone with no thyroid must take a thyroid substitution and risk cancer. 😭

I had hyperparathyroidism causing me to be hypercalcemic with many many kidney stones. I had three thyroid surgeries because they could not find my paraglands. In 2016, in my third surgery, they ended up taking half my thyroid, causing me to be hypothyroid. They prescribed me levothyroxine right after surgery. Dr.C, is there a recommended doctor in South Dakota that you might have trained that could help me in seeing if I could stop taking levothyroxine altogether?

Hi, Gwen, I don't have a South Dakota referral, but let me know if you'd like personal guidance.

Doc, how do the results of a thyroid ultrasound play into this 'getting off the meds' process ??? Does it matter what your ultrasound looks like? Are the results a factor on whether or not you should do this?

There are some cases where the thyroid has atrophied to under 10 grams. This makes deprescribing less likely. There are also cases where ultrasound findings make tight TSH control necessary. In most other cases, the ultrasound does not affect deprescribing.
